We consider the pseudo-Euclidean space (R n , g), with n ≥ 3 and g ij = δ ij ε i , ε i = ±1, where at least one ε i = 1 and nondiagonal tensors of the form T = Σ ij f ij dx i dx j such that, for ij, f ij (x i , x j ) depends on x i and x j . We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for such a tensor to admit a metric ḡ, conformal to g, that solves the Ricci tensor equation or the Einstein equation. Similar problems are considered for locally conformally flat manifolds. Examples are provided of complete metrics on R n , on the n-dimensional torus T n and on cylinders T k ×R n-k , that solve the Ricci equation or the Einstein equation. Consider functions u1, u2,..., un ∈ D(ℝk) and assume that we are given a certain set of linear combinations of the form ∑i, j a ij (l)jui. Sufficient conditions in terms of coefficients a ij (l) are indicated under which the norms are controlled in terms of the L1-norms of these linear combinations. These conditions are mostly transparent if k = 2. The classical Gagliardo inequality corresponds to a single function u1 = u and the collection of its partial derivatives ∂1u,..., ∂ku. The bandwidth problem for a graph G is to label its n vertices vi with distinct integers f(vi) so that the quantity max{| f(vi) ? f(vi)| : (vi vj) ∈ E(G)} is minimized. The corresponding problem for a real symmetric matrix M is to find a symmetric permutation M' of M so that the quantity max{| i ? j| : m'ij ≠ 0} is minimized. This survey describes all the results known to the authors as of approximately August 1981. These results include the effect on bandwidth of local operations such as refinement and contraction of graphs, bounds on bandwidth in terms of other graph invariants, the bandwidth of special classes of graphs, and approximate bandwidth algorithms for graphs and matrices. The survey concludes with a brief discussion of some problems related to bandwidth.  相似文献

Here {e i } is a local orthonormal basis for I = dx·dx with dual basis {θ i }, II = ∑ ij h ij θ i ⊗θ i is the second fundamental form, and S is the shape operator of x. It is clear that any conformal image of a (Euclidean) isoparametric hypersurface in S n +1 is a M?bius isoparametric hypersurface, but the converse is not true. In this paper we classify all M?bius isoparametric hypersurfaces in S n +1 with two distinct principal curvatures up to M?bius transformations. By using a theorem of Thorbergsson [1] we also show that the number of distinct principal curvatures of a compact M?bius isoparametric hypersurface embedded in S n +1 can take only the values 2, 3, 4, 6. The aim of this paper is to establish sufficient conditions of the finite time blow-up in solutions of the homogeneous Dirichlet problem for the anisotropic parabolic equations with variable nonlinearity $ u_t = \sum\nolimits_{i = 1}^n {D_i (a_i (x,t)|D_i u|^{p^i (x) - 2} D_i u) + \sum\nolimits_{i = 1}^K {b_i (x,t)|u|^{\sigma _i (x,t) - 2} u} } $ u_t = \sum\nolimits_{i = 1}^n {D_i (a_i (x,t)|D_i u|^{p^i (x) - 2} D_i u) + \sum\nolimits_{i = 1}^K {b_i (x,t)|u|^{\sigma _i (x,t) - 2} u} } . Two different cases are studied. In the first case a i a i (x), p i ≡ 2, σ i σ i (x, t), and b i (x, t) ≥ 0. We show that in this case every solution corresponding to a “large” initial function blows up in finite time if there exists at least one j for which min σ j (x, t) > 2 and either b j > 0, or b j (x, t) ≥ 0 and Σπ b j ρ(t)(x, t) dx < ∞ with some σ(t) > 0 depending on σ j . In the case of the quasilinear equation with the exponents p i and σ i depending only on x, we show that the solutions may blow up if min σ i ≥ max p i , b i ≥ 0, and there exists at least one j for which min σ j > max p j and b j > 0. We extend these results to a semilinear equation with nonlocal forcing terms and quasilinear equations which combine the absorption (b i ≤ 0) and reaction terms.  相似文献

The paper studies a generalized Hadamard matrix H = (g i j) of order n with entries gi j from a group G of order n. We assume that H satisfies: (i) For m k, G = {g m i g k i -1 i = 1,...., n} (ii) g 1i = g i1 = 1 for each i; (iii) g ij -1 = g ji for all i, j. Conditions (i) and (ii) occur whenever G is a(P, L) -transitivity for a projective plane of order n. Condition (iii) holds in the case that H affords a symmetric incidence matrix for the plane. The paper proves that G must be a 2-group and extends previous work to the case that n is a square.  相似文献

A load-balanced network with two queues Q 1 and Q 2 is considered. Each queue receives a Poisson stream of customers at rate i , i=1,2. In addition, a Poisson stream of rate arrives to the system; the customers from this stream join the shorter of two queues. After being served in the ith queue, i=1,2, customers leave the system with probability 1–p i *, join the jth queue with probability p(i,j), j=1,2, and choose the shortest of two queues with probability p(i,{1,2}). In this paper the authors study the hyperbolic geometric flow on Riemann surfaces. This new nonlinear geometric evolution equation was recently introduced by the first two authors, motivated by Einstein equation and Hamilton's Ricci flow. We prove that, for any given initial metric on ?2 in certain class of metrics, one can always choose suitable initial velocity symmetric tensor such that the solution exists for all time, and the scalar curvature corresponding to the solution metric g ij keeps uniformly bounded for all time; moreover, if the initial velocity tensor is suitably “large", then the solution metric g ij converges to the flat metric at an algebraic rate. If the initial velocity tensor does not satisfy the condition, then the solution blows up at a finite time, and the scalar curvature R(t, x) goes to positive infinity as (t, x) tends to the blowup points, and a flow with surgery has to be considered. The authors attempt to show that, comparing to Ricci flow, the hyperbolic geometric flow has the following advantage: the surgery technique may be replaced by choosing suitable initial velocity tensor. Some geometric properties of hyperbolic geometric flow on general open and closed Riemann surfaces are also discussed.  相似文献

. Let P(u) denote the pressure at the density u defined in the Gibbs statistical mechanics determined by a 2 body potential U (qi - qj). The function U(x) is supposed rotationally invariant and of finite range but may be unbounded about the origin. We establish a representation of P(u) by means of the law of large numbers for the virial ?i,j qi ·? U(qi-qj)\sum_{i,j} q_i \cdot {\nabla} U(q_i-q_j), whether or not there occur phase transitions. This result on P(u) is motivated by a study of the hydrodynamic behavior of a system of a large number of interacting Brownian particles moving on a d-dimensional torus (d = 1, 2, ...) in which the interaction is given by binary potential forces of potential U. Employing our representation of P(u), we also show that in the hydrodynamic limit of such a system there arises a non linear evolution equation of the form ut = 1/2 DP(u)u_t = {1\over2} \Delta P(u) under a certain hypothetical postulate concerning concentration of particles.  相似文献

We construct a 3×3 matrix zero-curvature representation for the system of three two-dimensional relativistically invariant scalar fields. This system belongs to the class described by the Lagrangian L = [g ij(u)u x i u t j]/2+f(u), where g ij is the metric tensor of a three-dimensional reducible Riemannian space. We previously found all systems of this class that have higher polynomial symmetries of the orders 2, 3, 4, or 5. In this paper, we find a zero-curvature representation for one of these systems. The calculation is based on the analysis of an evolutionary system u t = S(u), where S is one of the higher symmetries. This approach can also be applied to other hyperbolic systems. We also find recursion relations for a sequence of conserved currents of the triplet of scalar fields under consideration.  相似文献

Assume F={f1,. . .,fn} is a family of nonnegative functions of n−1 nonnegative variables such that, for every matrix A of order n, |aii|>fi (moduli of off-diagonal entries in row i of A) for all i implies A nonsingular. We show that there is a positive vector x, depending only on F, such that for all A=(aij), and all i, fi≥∑j|aij|{xj}/xi. We consider the M/M ij /1 queue as a model of queues with changeover times, i.e., the service is exponential with parameter ij depending on the previous job type (i) and the current job type (j). It is shown that the departure process is renewal and Poisson iff ij = (constant). In this case, types of departures are dependent renewal processes. In this note necessary and sufficient conditions are determined for Weyl—tsukispaces to have a birecurrent metric, i.e., m k g ij = km g ij . It is proved that in this space the metric tensor is an eigen-tensor. The special caseP j i = (x) j i is examined and we prove that in this case the recurrent metric tensor is likewise birecurrent.
