We discuss an open supermembrane in the presence of a constant three-form. The boundary conditions to ensure the κ-invariance of the action lead to possible Dirichlet branes. It is shown that a noncommutative (NC) M5-brane is possible as a boundary and the self-duality condition that the flux on the world-volume satisfies is derived from the requirement of the κ-symmetry. We also find that the open supermembrane can attach to each of infinitely many M2-branes on an M5-brane, namely a strong flux limit of the NC M5-brane.  相似文献

Utilizing the free Polyakov action of open p-brane, we obtain the solution of satisfying the boundary conditions to Euler–Lagrange equation of the open p-brane, the first and second quantization theories of the p-brane are given. Further, we obtain a series of new multiple commutative relations between the different normal modes of the p  -brane, obtain the new lowering and raising multiple operators, and give a series of the new fundamental multiple commutative relations of the lowering and raising multiple operators in the state space. And then we mainly take p=3p=3 case for example to investigate the spectrum of the open 3-brane at different levels. Interestingly, we find three types of tachyon states including scalar states, vector states and 2-rank tensor states, respectively. Besides, the graviton fields, Kalb–Ramond fields, dilaton and photon states, 3-rank tensor states as well, appear at the same level in the open 3-brane model. For the spectrum of the p  -brane (p>3)(p>3), one can do the whole analogous research on p=3p=3 except more complex.  相似文献

Exact solvability of brane equations is studied, and a new U(1)×U(1)×?×U(1) invariant anzats for the solution of p-brane equations in D=(2p+1)-dimensional Minkowski space is proposed. The reduction of the p-brane Hamiltonian to the Hamiltonian of p-dimensional relativistic anharmonic oscillator with the monomial potential of the degree equal to 2p is revealed. For the case of degenerate p-torus with equal radii it is shown that the p-brane equations are integrable and their solutions are expressed in terms of elliptic (p=2) or hyperelliptic (p>2) functions. The solution describes contracting p-brane with the contraction time depending on p and the brane energy density. The toroidal brane elasticity is found to break down linear Hooke law as it takes place for the anharmonic elasticity of smectic liquid crystals.  相似文献

We explicitly construct massive (0,4) supersymmetric ADHM sigma models which have heterotic p-brane solitons as their conformal fixed points. These yield the familiar gauge 5-brane and a new 1-brane solution which preserve half and a quarter of the space-time supersymmetry, respectively. We also discuss an analogous construction for the type 11 NS-NS p-branes using (4,4) supersymmetric models.  相似文献

The elementary and solitonic supersymmetric p-brane solutions to supergravity theories form families related by dimensional reduction, each headed by a maximal (‘stainless’) member that cannot be isotropically dimensionally oxidized into higher dimensions. We find several new families, headed by stainless solutions in various dimensions D ⩽ 9. In some cases, these occur with dimensions (D, p) that coincide with those of descendants of known families, but since the new solutions are stainless, they are necessarily distinct. The new stainless supersymmetric solutions include a 6-brane and a 5-brane in D = 9, a string in D = 5, and particles in all dimensions 5 ⩽ D ⩽ 9.  相似文献

Brane factories     
We propose that higher-dimensional extended objects (p-branes) are created by super-Planckian scattering processes in theories with TeV scale gravity. As an example, we compute the cross section for p-brane creation in a (n+4)-dimensional spacetime with asymmetric compactification. We find that the cross section for the formation of a brane which is wounded on a compact submanifold of size of the fundamental gravitational scale is larger than the cross section for the creation of a spherically symmetric black hole. Therefore, we predict that branes are more likely to be created than black holes in super-Planckian scattering processes in these manifolds. The higher rate of p-brane production has important phenomenological consequences, as it significantly enhances possible detection of non-perturbative gravitational events in future hadron colliders and cosmic rays detectors.  相似文献

We consider the non-linear realizations of the Poincare group for p  -branes with local subgroup SO(1,p)×SO(D−(p+1))SO(1,p)×SO(D(p+1)). The Nambu–Goto p-brane action is constructed using the Maurer–Cartan forms of the unbroken translations. We perform a throughout phase space analysis of the action and show that it leads to the canonical action of a p-brane. We also construct some higher order derivative terms of the effective p-brane action using the MC forms of the broken Lorentz transformations.  相似文献

In this article, we shall obtain the boundary state associated with a moving Dp-brane in the presence of the Kalb–Ramond field B μν , an internal U(1) gauge field A α and a tachyon field, in the compact spacetime. According to this state, properties of the brane and a closed string, with mixed boundary conditions emitted from it, will be obtained. Using this boundary state, we calculate the interaction amplitude of two moving Dp 1 and Dp 2-branes with above background fields in a partially compact spacetime. They are parallel or perpendicular to each other. Properties of the interaction amplitude will be analyzed, and contribution of the massless states to the interaction will be extracted.  相似文献

It is shown that the recently classified “super p-brane” actions can be considered as effective actions “extended solitons” of supersymmetric field theories for which a Bogomol'nyi-type bound of the form (mass/unit p-volume) ⩾ topological charge is saturated. Such solutions can be found by “double-dimensional oxidation” of the instanton solutions of supersymmetric field theories in d = 1, 2, 4 spacetime dimensions. These provide a field-theoretic of all super p-branes except the d = 10 superstring and the d = 11 supermembrane.  相似文献

We express the covariant actions of a super p-brane and the corresponding equations of motion, in flat and curved superspaces, in terms of the Nambu (p + 1)-brackets. These brackets make the (p + 1)-algebra structure of a super p-brane manifest. We construct an effective action describing an elementary M5-brane interacting with dynamical eleven-dimensional supergravity, which is free from gravitational anomalies. The current associated to the elementary brane is taken as a distribution valued δ-function on the support of the 5-brane itself. Crucial ingredients of the construction are the consistent inclusion of the dynamics of the chiral two-form on the 5-brane, and the use of an invariant Chern-kernel allowing to introduce a D=11 three-form potential which is well-defined on the worldvolume of the 5-brane.  相似文献

We investigate the noncommutativity of open strings, attached to a Dp-brane, in the presence of the linear dilaton, tachyon, U(1) gauge field as well as constant antisymmetric B-field backgrounds. We investigate the localization of modes on the worldvolume of a p  -brane embedded in (p+d+1p+d+1)-dimensional spacetime. The p  -brane here is such that its profile is regarded as a scalar global defect and the localized modes are scalar modes that come from the fluctuations around such defect. The effective action on the brane is computed and the induced potentials are typically ?4?4-type potentials that are flatter for lower d-dimensions. We also make a connection of such scalar global defects with black p-branes in certain limits.  相似文献

We apply the Kerr/CFT correspondence to the rotating black p-brane solutions. These solutions give the simplest examples from string theory point of view. Their near horizon geometries have structures of AdS, even though black p-brane solutions do not have AdS-like structures in the non-rotating case. The microscopic entropy which can be calculated via the Cardy formula exactly agrees with Bekenstein–Hawking entropy.  相似文献

We propose a manifestly SO(8)SO(8) invariant BF type Lagrangian for describing the dynamics of M2-brane–anti-M2-brane system in flat spacetime. When one of the scalars which satisfies a free-scalar equation takes a large expectation value, the M2-brane–anti-M2-brane action reduces to the tachyon DBI action of D2-brane–anti-D2-brane system in flat spacetime.  相似文献
