The series (3) and (4), where T(x) denotes trigonometric integrals (2), are represented as series in terms of Riemann zeta and related functions using the sums of the series (5) and (6), whose terms involve one trigonometric function. These series can be brought in closed form in some cases, where closed form means that the series are represented by finite sums of certain integrals. By specifying the function φ(y) appearing in trigonometric integrals (2) we obtain new series for some special types of functions as well as known results.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Schlömilch's series is named after the German mathematician Oscar Xavier Schlömilch, who derived it in 1857 as a Fourier series type expansion in terms of the Bessel function of the first kind. However, except for Bessel functions, here we consider an expansion in terms of Struve functions or Bessel and Struve integrals as well. The method for obtaining a sum of Schlömilch's series in terms of the Bessel or Struve functions is based on the summation of trigonometric series, which can be represented in terms of the Riemann zeta and related functions of reciprocal powers and in certain cases can be brought in the closed form, meaning that the infinite series are represented by finite sums. By using Krylov's method we obtain the convergence acceleration of the trigonometric series.  相似文献

Elliott's identity involving the Gaussian hypergeometric series contains, as a special case, the classical Legendre identity for complete elliptic integrals. The aim of this paper is to derive a differentiation formula for an expression involving the Gaussian hypergeometric series, which, for appropriate values of the parameters, implies Elliott's identity and which also leads to concavity/convexity properties of certain related functions. We also show that Elliott's identity is equivalent to a formula of Ramanujan on the differentiation of quotients of hypergeometric functions. Applying these results we obtain a number of identities associated with the Legendre functions of the first and the second kinds, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper we consider trigonometric series in terms of the Riemann zeta function and related functions of reciprocal powers. The obtained closed form formulas we apply to the evaluation of the Riemann zeta function and related functions of reciprocal powers. One can establish recursive relations for them and relations between any two of those functions. These closed formulas enable us also to find sums of some Schlömilch series. We give an example which shows how the convergence of a trigonometric series can be accelerated by applying Krylov's method and our formula (7).  相似文献

Some previous results on convergence of Taylor series in Cn [3] are improved by indicating outside the domain of convergence the points where the series diverges and simplifying some proofs. These results contain the Cauchy-Hadamard theorem in C. Some Cauchy integral formulas of a holomorphic function on a closed ball in Cn are constructed and the Taylor series expansion is deduced.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the application of some convergence acceleration methods to Fourier series, to orthogonal series, and, more generally, to series of functions. Sometimes, the convergence of these series is slow and, moreover, they exhibit a Gibbs phenomenon, in particular when the solution or its first derivative has discontinuities. It is possible to circumvent, at least partially, these drawbacks by applying a convergence acceleration method (in particular, the -algorithm) or by approximating the series by a rational function (in particular, a Padé approximant). These issues are discussed and some numerical results are presented. We will see that adding its conjugate series as an imaginary part to a Fourier series greatly improves the efficiency of the algorithms for accelerating the convergence of the series and reducing the Gibbs phenomenon. Conjugacy for series of functions will also be considered.  相似文献

We present relations between Hirota-type bilinear operators, scalar products on spaces of symmetric functions, and integrals defining matrix-model partition functions. Using the fermionic Fock space representation, we prove an expansion of an associated class of KP and 2-Toda tau functions r,n in a series of Schur functions generalizing the hypergeometric series and relate it to the scalar product formulas. We show how special cases of such tau functions can be identified as formal series for partition functions. A closed form expansion of log r,n in terms of Schur functions is derived.  相似文献

We derive new integral representations for constituents of the classical theory of elliptic functions: the Eisenstein series, and Weierstrass' ℘ and ζ functions. The derivations proceed from the Laplace-Mellin representation of multipoles, and an elementary lemma on the summation of 2D geometric series. In addition, we present results concerning the analytic continuation of the Eisenstein series to an entire function in the complex plane, and the value of the conditionally convergent series, denoted by below, as a function of summation over increasingly large rectangles with arbitrary fixed aspect ratio.1  相似文献

Order statistics has an important role in statistical inference. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate order statistics, and also explore its applications in the analysis of nonstationary time series. Our results show that linear functions of order statistics for a large class of time series are asymptotically normal. The methods of proof involve approximations of serially dependent random variables by independent ones. The problems of testing for the existence of a linear trend and the problem of testing randomness versus serial dependence are considered as applications.  相似文献

We give series expansions for the Barnes multiple zeta functions in terms of rational functions whose numerators are complex-order Bernoulli polynomials, and whose denominators are linear. We also derive corresponding rational expansions for Dirichlet L-functions and multiple log gamma functions in terms of higher order Bernoulli polynomials. These expansions naturally express many of the well-known properties of these functions. As corollaries many special values of these transcendental functions are expressed as series of higher order Bernoulli numbers.

This work considers the nature of generating functions of random lattice walks restricted to the first quadrant. In particular, we find combinatorial criteria to decide if related series are algebraic, transcendental holonomic or otherwise. Complete results for walks taking their steps in a maximum of three directions of restricted amplitude are given, as is a well-supported conjecture for all walks with steps taken from a subset of 2{0,±1}. New enumerative results are presented for several classes, each obtained with a variant of the kernel method.  相似文献

Based on a continuity property of the Hadamard product of power series we derive results concerning the rate of convergence of the partial sums of certain polynomial series expansions for Bessel functions. Since these partial sums are easily computable by recursion and since cancellation problems are considerably reduced compared to the corresponding Taylor sections, the expansions may be attractive for numerical purposes. A similar method yields results on series expansions for confluent hypergeometric functions. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
