A closed 3-manifold M is said to be hyperelliptic if it has an involution τ such that the quotient space of M by the action of τ is homeomorphic to the standard 3-sphere. We show that the hyperbolic football manifolds of Emil Molnár [12] are hyperelliptic. Then we determine the isometry groups of such manifolds. Another consequence is that the unique hyperbolic dodecahedral and icosahedral 3-space forms with first homology group ℤ35 (constructed by I. Prok in [16], on the basis of a principal algorithm due to Emil Molnár [13], and by Richardson and Rubinstein in [18]) are also hyperelliptic.  相似文献

Using C(X)-techniques, we give a simple proof of a recent theorem of I. Juhász: If X is an infinite compact T2space of weight and < is any infinite cardinal, then X has a T2continuous image Y, of weight . We observe that the answer to the analogous question about the values of a cardinal function for subspaces of a topological space follows in several cases from well-known results on chains of subspaces.  相似文献

Introducing the discrete probability distribution by means of the Prabhakar (or the three-parameter Mittag–Leffler) function, we establish explicit expressions for raw and factorial moments and also general fractional-order moments. Applying an elementary moment inequality we obtain functional upper bounds for the Turánian difference for Prabhakar function. This paper aims to prove the asymptotic behavior of the solution for the thermo-elastic von Karman system where the thermal conduction is given by Gurtin-Pipkins law. Existence and uniqueness of the solution are proved within the semigroup framework and stability is achieved thanks to a suitable Lyapunov functional.Therefore, the stability result clarified that the solutions energy functional decays exponentially at infinite time.  相似文献

An existence theorem of rational interpolation function for the sufficient condition has correctly been stated by Macon-Dupree in [2], but some arguments in their proof are not true. In this paper: (i) A related theorem for both the sufficient and necessary condition is asserted and proved by a new and rigorous approach, namely by introducing the notion of (m/n) quasi-rational interpolant of a given function. We rigorously derive the von Kármán shell theory for incompressible materials, starting from the 3D nonlinear elasticity. In case of thin plates, the Euler-Lagrange equations of the limiting energy functional reduce to the incompressible version of the classical von Kármán equations, obtained formally in the limit of Poisson’s ratio ν → 1/2. More generally, the midsurface of the shell to which our analysis applies, is only assumed to have the following approximation property: ${\mathcal C^3}$ first order infinitesimal isometries are dense in the space of all W 2,2 infinitesimal isometries. The class of surfaces with this property includes: subsets of ${\mathbb R^2}$ , convex surfaces, developable surfaces and rotationally invariant surfaces. Our analysis relies on the methods and extends the results of Conti and Dolzmann (Calc Var PDE 34:531–551, 2009, Lewicka et al. (Ann. Scuola Norm. Sup. Pisa Cl. Sci. (5) Vol. IX:253–295, 2010, Friesecke et al. (Comm. Pure. Appl. Math. 55, no. 2, 1461–1506, 2002).  相似文献
