Two types of three‐arm and four‐arm, star‐shaped poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid)‐b‐poly(L ‐lactic acid) (D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA) were successfully synthesized via the sequential ring‐opening polymerization of D,L ‐3‐methylglycolide (MG) and L ‐lactide (L ‐LA) with a multifunctional initiator, such as trimethylolpropane and pentaerythritol, and stannous octoate (SnOct2) as a catalyst. Star‐shaped, hydroxy‐terminated poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid) (D,L ‐PLGA50) obtained from the polymerization of MG was used as a macroinitiator to initiate the block polymerization of L ‐LA with the SnOct2 catalyst in bulk at 130 °C. For the polymerization of L ‐LA with the three‐arm, star‐shaped D,L ‐PLGA50 macroinitiator (number‐average molecular weight = 6800) and the SnOct2 catalyst, the molecular weight of the resulting D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA polymer linearly increased from 12,600 to 27,400 with the increasing molar ratio (1:1 to 3:1) of L ‐LA to MG, and the molecular weight distribution was rather narrow (weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight = 1.09–1.15). The 1H NMR spectrum of the D,L ‐PLGA50‐b‐PLLA block copolymer showed that the molecular weight and unit composition of the block copolymer were controlled by the molar ratio of L ‐LA to the macroinitiator. The 13C NMR spectrum of the block copolymer clearly showed its diblock structures, that is, D,L ‐PLGA50 as the first block and poly(L ‐lactic acid) as the second block. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The spontaneous hydrogel formation of a sort of biocompatible and biodegradable amphiphilic block copolymer in water was observed, and the underlying gelling mechanism was assumed. A series of ABA‐type triblock copolymers [poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid)] and different derivatives end‐capped by small alkyl groups were synthesized, and the aqueous phase behaviors of these samples were studied. The virgin triblock copolymers and most of the derivatives exhibited a temperature‐dependent reversible sol–gel transition in water. Both the poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid) length and end group were found to significantly tune the gel windows in the phase diagrams, but with different behaviors. The critical micelle concentrations were much lower than the associated critical gel concentrations, and an intact micellar structure remained after gelation. A combination of various measurement techniques confirmed that the sol–gel transition with an increase in the temperature was induced not simply via the self‐assembly of amphiphilic polymer chains but also via the further hydrophobic aggregation of micelles resulting in a micelle network due to a large‐scale self‐assembly. The coarsening of the micelle network was further suggested to account for the transition from a transparent gel to an opaque gel. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. DL ‐lactic acid was grafted onto chitosan to produce poly(chitosan‐g‐DL ‐lactic acid)(PCLA) without using a catalyst. These PCLAs were then spun into filaments and further fabricated into fibrous mesh scaffolds using an improved wet‐spinning technique. The diameter of filaments in different scaffolds could vary from a few micrometers to several tens of micrometers. The scaffolds exhibited various pore sizes ranging from about 20 µm to more than 200 µm and different porosities up to 80%. The several main processing conditions were optimized for obtaining the desired scaffolds with well‐controlled structures. The tensile and compressive mechanical properties of the mesh scaffolds in both dry and hydrated states were mainly examined. Significantly improved tensile strength and modulus, enhanced compressive modulus, and stress as well as the dimensional stability for these mesh scaffolds in their hydrated state were observed. Comb‐like amphiphilic poly(poly((lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid)‐block‐poly(ethylene glycol)) methacrylate (poly((PLGA‐b‐PEG)MA)) copolymers were synthesized by radical polymerization. (PLGA‐b‐PEG)MA macromonomer was prepared by ring‐opening bulk polymerization of DL ‐lactide and glycolide using purified poly(ethylene glycol) monomethacrylate (PEGMA) as an initiator. (PLGA‐b‐PEG)MA macromonomer was copolymerized with PEGMA and/or acrylic acid (AA) by radical polymerization to produce comb‐like amphiphilic block copolymers. The molecular weight and chemical structure were investigated by GPC and 1H NMR. Poly((PLGA‐b‐PEG)MA) copolymer aqueous solutions showed gel–sol transition behavior with increasing temperature, and gel‐to‐sol transition temperature decreased as the compositions of the hydrophilic PEGMA and AA increased. The gel‐to‐sol transition temperature of the terpolymers of the poly((PLGA‐b‐PEG)MA‐co‐PEGMA‐co‐AA) also decreased when the pH was increased. The effective micelle diameter obtained from dynamic light scattering increased with increasing temperature and with increasing pH. The critical micelle concentration increased as the composition of the hydrophilic monomer component, PEGMA and AA, were increased. The spherical shape of the hyperbranched polymers in aqueous environment was observed by atomic force microscopy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The radical polymerization of 1‐vinylpyrrolidin‐2‐one (NVP) in poly(lactic‐co‐glycolic acid) (PLGA) 50:50 at 100 °C leads to amphiphilic PLGA‐g‐PVP copolymers. Their composition is determined by FT‐IR spectroscopy. Thermogravimetric analyses agree with FT‐IR determinations. Saponification of the PLGA‐g‐PVP polyester portion allows isolating the PVP side chains and measuring their molecular weight, from which the average chain transfer constant (CT) of the PLGA units is estimated. The MALDI‐TOF spectra of PVP reveal the presence at one chain end of residues of either glycolic acid‐ or lactic acid‐ or lactic/glycolic acid dimers, trimers and one tetramer, the other terminal being hydrogen. This unequivocally demonstrates that grafting occurred. Accordingly, the orthogonal solvent pair ethyl acetate—methanol, while separating the components of PLGA/PVP intimate mixtures, fails to separate pure PVP or PLGA from the reaction products. All PLGA‐g‐PVP and PLGA/PLGA‐g‐PVP blends, but not PLGA/PVP blends, give long‐time stable dispersions in water. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Novel star‐like hyperbranched polymers with amphiphilic arms were synthesized via three steps. Hyperbranched poly(amido amine)s containing secondary amine and hydroxyl groups were successfully synthesized via Michael addition polymerization of triacrylamide (TT) and 3‐amino‐1,2‐propanediol (APD) with feed molar ratio of 1:2. 1H, 13C, and HSQC NMR techniques were used to clarify polymerization mechanism and the structures of the resultant hyperbranched polymers. Methoxyl poly(ethylene oxide) acrylate (A‐MPEO) and carboxylic acid‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) were sequentially reacted with secondary amine and hydroxyl group, and the core–shell structures with poly(1TT‐2APD) as core and two distinguishing polymer chains, PEO and PCL, as shell were constructed. The star‐like hyperbranched polymers have different sizes in dimethyl sulfonate, chloroform, and deionized water, which were characterized by DLS and 1H NMR. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The 3‐ and 4‐aminophenylacetylenes protected by t‐butoxycarbonyl (t‐Boc) and 9‐fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) groups ( 3a – 6a ) were synthesized and polymerized using [(nbd)RhCl]2 ( 1 ) and [(nbd)Rh+‐η6‐PhB?Ph3] ( 2 ) catalysts. The t‐Boc‐containing polymers [poly( 3a ) and poly( 4a )] were obtained in high yield (82–91%). Among the Fmoc‐protected monomers, the para‐derivative polymerized well [poly( 6a ); yield = 85–94%], whereas its meta‐substituted analogue did not afford high molecular weight polymer in good yield [poly( 5a ); yield = 10–15%]. The use of KN(SiMe3)2 as a cocatalyst in conjunction with 1 led to a dramatic increase in the molecular weight of the polymers. The acid‐ and base‐catalyzed removal of the t‐Boc and the Fmoc groups, respectively, generated primary amine‐containing polymers [poly( 3b )–poly( 6b )] which cannot be obtained directly by the polymerization of the corresponding monomers. The solubility characteristics of the polymers bearing protected amino groups were quite different from those of the unprotected ones, the former being soluble in polar solvents, whereas the latter displayed poor solubility even in polar protic or highly polar aprotic solvents. The attempts to accomplish the free‐standing membrane fabrication by solution casting were successful only for poly( 3a ), and an augmentation in the gas permeability and CO2/N2 permselectivity was discerned in comparison with the unsubstituted poly(phenylacetylene) and poly(mt‐butyldimethylsiloxyphenylacetylene). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel AB2‐type monomers such as 3,5‐bis(4‐methylolphenoxy)benzoic acid ( monomer 1 ), methyl 3,5‐bis(4‐methylolphenoxy) benzoate ( monomer 2 ), and 3,5‐bis(4‐methylolphenoxy)benzoyl chloride ( monomer 3 ) were synthesized. Solution polymerization and melt self‐polycondensation of these monomers yielded hydroxyl‐terminated hyperbranched aromatic poly(ether‐ester)s. The structure of these polymers was established using FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The molecular weights (Mw) of the polymers were found to vary from 2.0 × 103 to 1.49 × 104 depending on the polymerization techniques and the experimental conditions used. Suitable model compounds that mimic exactly the dendritic, linear, and terminal units present in the hyperbranched polymer were synthesized for the calculation of degree of branching (DB) and the values ranged from 52 to 93%. The thermal stability of the polymers was evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis, which showed no virtual weight loss up to 200 °C. The inherent viscosities of the polymers in DMF ranged from 0.010 to 0.120 dL/g. End‐group modification of the hyperbranched polymer was carried out with phenyl isocyanate, 4‐(decyloxy)benzoic acid and methyl red dye. The end‐capping groups were found to change the thermal properties of the polymers such as Tg. The optical properties of hyperbranched polymer and the dye‐capped hyperbranched polymer were investigated using ultraviolet‐absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of poly(glycolic acid) (PGA) by polyesterification of glycolic acid was studied using ionic liquids, mainly 1,3‐dialkylimidazolium salts, as reaction media. The 1H NMR spectra of PGA oligomers were assigned and end‐group signals were used to follow the reaction. Low PGA yields were obtained by the direct polyesterification of glycolic acid at 200–240 °C, because of monomer evaporation during the reaction. On the other hand, PGAs of DP n up to 45 were obtained by the postpolycondensation of a preformed oligomer in 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (BMIm+Tf2N?). The precipitation of PGA in reaction medium at long reaction times limited the achievable molar mass. Rate constants were determined for catalyzed and noncatalyzed reactions, assuming a second‐order reaction mechanism. The efficiency of esterification catalysts such as Zn(OAc)2 was low in these media, as only about twofold increases in reaction rate were observed. This was assigned to the preferential interaction of Zn2+ with ionic liquid anion instead of the polymer carboxylic acid end‐groups. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Alternating copolymers of glycolic (G) and lactic (L) acid were prepared by the condensation of the preformed dimers: LLG and LracG. By size exclusion chromatography (THF, PS standards), poly(LLG) exhibited a molecular weight (Mn) of 15.6 kg mol?1, with a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 26.9 kg mol?1 and a PDI of 1.72. The Mn for poly(LracG) was 9.2 kg mol?1, with a Mw of 12.9 kg mol?1 and a PDI of 1.40. The NMR spectra of poly(LLG) were consistent with an isotactic microstructure. NMR spectra of the racemic poly(LracG) were consistent with an atactic structure. The methylene region of the 1H NMR spectrum showed a tetrad level of resolution of the nearby stereochemical relationships, for example, iii. Resonances for other groups in both the 1H and 13C NMR spectra gave only a triad level of resolution. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 4704–4711, 2008  相似文献

The crystal modifications and multiple melting behavior of poly(L ‐lactic acid‐co‐D ‐lactic acid) (98/2) as a function of crystallization temperature were studied by wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). It was found that the disorder (α′) and order (α) phases of poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) were formed in cold‐crystallized poly(L ‐lactic acid‐co‐D ‐lactic acid) samples at low (<110 °C) and high (≥110 °C) temperatures, respectively. A disorder‐to‐order (α′‐to‐α) phase transition occurred during the annealing process of the α′‐crystal at elevated temperatures, which proceeded quite slowly even at the peak temperature of the exotherm Pexo but much more rapidly at higher temperature close to the melting region. The presence or absence of an additional endothermic peak before the exotherm in the DSC thermograph of the α′‐crystal was strongly dependent on the heating rate, indicating that a melting process involved during the α′‐to‐α phase transition. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermoresponsive, biodegradable polymeric hydrogel networks are used widely in medicinal applications. Poly(d ,l ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(d ,l ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid) (PLGA‐PEG‐PLGA) triblock copolymers exhibit a sol–gel transition upon heating. The effect of PLGA block and PEG chain molecular weights (MWs) on the gelling temperature of polymer aqueous solution (20% w/w) is described. All polymer solutions convert into a hard gel within 2 °C of the gelling temperature. The release properties of the gels were displayed using paracetamol as a representative drug. A linear relation is described between the gelling temperature and PLGA block MW. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2019 , 57, 35–39  相似文献

The gel to sol transition of aqueous solutions of di‐ and triblock copolymers consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) and biodegradable polyesters was studied as a function of temperature. The molecular weight and the chemical composition of the biodegradable blocks, (poly(l ‐lactic acid), poly(dl ‐lactic acid), poly(dl ‐lactic acid‐co‐caprolactone), and poly(dl ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid)) were varied to investigate the effects of chain packing and relative hydrophobicity on the gel to sol transition. The block copolymers studied formed micelles at lower concentrations in water, while the concentrated solutions experienced a gel to sol transition as the temperature increased. Further increase in temperature resulted in the precipitation of polymers. With increasing molecular weight and chain packing tendency of hydrophobic biodegradable block, the gel to sol transition occurred at lower concentrations and the transition temperature ranged from 0°C to over 90°C in a relatively narrow concentration range. The results obtained in this study confirm the relationship between gelation properties and polymer structure, as well as provide more information for these polymers in drug delivery applications. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Diblock copolymers consisting of methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG) and poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(δ‐valerolactone) (PVL), poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA), or poly(lactic‐co‐glycolic acid) (PLGA) as biodegradable polyesters were prepared to examine the phase transition of diblock copolymer solutions. MPEG–PCL and MPEG–PVL diblock copolymers and MPEG–PLLA and MPEG–PLGA diblock copolymers were synthesized by the ring‐opening polymerization of ?‐caprolactone or δ‐valerolactone in the presence of HCl · Et2O as a monomer activator at room temperature and by the ring‐opening polymerization of L ‐lactide or a mixture of L ‐lactide and glycolide in the presence of stannous octoate at 130 °C, respectively. The synthesized diblock copolymers were characterized with 1H NMR, IR, and gel permeation chromatography. The phase transitions for diblock copolymer aqueous solutions of various concentrations were explored according to the temperature variation. The diblock copolymer solutions exhibited the phase transition from gel to sol with increasing temperature. As the polyester block length of the diblock copolymers increased, the gel‐to‐sol transition moved to a lower concentration region. The gel‐to‐sol transition showed a dependence on the length of the polyester block segment. According to X‐ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry thermal studies, the gel‐to‐sol transition of the diblock copolymer solutions depended on their degrees of crystallinity because water could easily diffuse into amorphous polymers in comparison with polymers with a crystalline structure. The crystallinity markedly depended on both the distinct character and composition of the block segment. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 42: 5784–5793, 2004  相似文献

D,L ‐3‐Methylglycolide (MG) was successfully polymerized with bimetallic (Al/Zn) μ‐oxo alkoxide as an initiator in toluene at 90 °C. The effect of the initiator concentration and monomer conversion on the molecular weight was studied. It is shown that the polymerization of MG follows a living process. A kinetic study indicated that the polymerization approximates the first order in the monomer, and no induction period was observed. 1H NMR spectroscopy showed that the ring‐opening polymerization proceeds through a coordination–insertion mechanism with selective cleavage of the acyl–oxygen bond of the monomer. On the basis of 1H NMR and 13C NMR analyses, the selective cleavage of the acyl–oxygen bond of the monomer mainly occurs at the least hindered carbonyl groups (P1 = 0.84, P2 = 0.16). Therefore, the main chain of poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐co‐glycolic acid) (50/50 molar ratio) obtained from the homopolymerization of MG was primarily composed of alternating lactyl and glycolyl units. The diblock copolymers poly(ϵ‐caprolactone)‐b‐poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid) and poly(L ‐lactide)‐b‐poly(D,L ‐lactic acid‐alt‐glycolic acid) were successfully synthesized by the sequential living polymerization of related lactones (ϵ‐caprolactone or L ‐lactide). 13C NMR spectra of diblock copolymers clearly show their pure diblock structures. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of new amphiphilic polymer conetworks containing hydrophilic poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) or poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and hydrophobic polyisobutylene (PIB) chains. These conetworks were prepared by a two‐step polymer synthesis. In the first step, a cationic copolymer of isobutylene (IB) and 3‐isopropenyl‐α,α‐dimethylbenzyl isocyanate (IDI) was prepared. The isocyanate groups of the IB–IDI random copolymer were subsequently transformed in situ to methacrylate (MA) groups in reaction with 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA). In the second step, the resulting MA‐multifunctional PIB‐based crosslinker, PIB(MA)n, with an average functionality of approximately four methacrylic groups per chain, was copolymerized with methacrylic acid (MAA) or acrylic acid (AA) by radical mechanism in tetrahydrofuran giving rise to amphiphilic conetworks containing 31–79 mol % of MAA or 26–36 mol % of AA. The synthesized conetworks were characterized with solid‐state 13C‐NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. The amphiphilic nature of the conetworks was proven by swelling in both aqueous media with low and high pH and n‐heptane. The effect of varying pH on the swelling behavior of the synthesized conetworks is presented. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 1284–1291, 2009  相似文献

Self‐controlled synthesis of hyperbranched poly(ether‐ketone)s (HPEKs) were prepared from “A2 + B3” approach by using different monomer solubility in reaction medium. 1,3,5‐Triphenoxybenzene as a hydrophobic B3 monomer was reacted with commercially available terephthalic acid or 4,4′‐oxybis(benzoic acid) as a hydrophilic A2 monomer in a hydrophilic reaction medium, polyphosphoric acid (PPA)/phosphorous pentoxide (P2O5). The resultant HPEKs were soluble in various common organic solvents and had the weight‐average molecular weight in the range of 3900–13,400 g/mol. The results implied that HPEKs were branched structures instead of crosslinked polymers. The molecular sizes and shapes of HPEKs were further assured by morphological investigation with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Hence, the applied polymerization condition was indeed strong enough to efficiently facilitate polycondensation via “direct” Friedel‐Crafts reaction without gelation. It could be concluded that the polymer forming reaction was kinetically controlled by automatic and slow feeding of the hydrophobic B3 monomer into the hydrophilic reaction mixture containing hydrophilic comonomer. As a result, hyperbranched structures were formed instead of crosslinked polymers even at full conversion (equifunctional monomer feed ratio). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. New functionalized, (a)chiral poly(phenylene‐alt‐bithiophene)s were prepared and their chiroptical properties were studied. The polymers were prepared by a Stille coupling reaction and were functionalized with protected carboxylic acid and amino functions (tert‐butyl ester and BOC respectively). The polymers are present as well conjugated rigid rods in solution, which (chirally) aggregate in nonsolvents and film. In a next step, the protecting group (tert‐butyl ester in case of the carboxylic acid) was removed. Aggregation of this polymer can be induced by addition of amines; if chiral amines are used, the polymer chains chirally stack. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The variation of the indentation hardness of a high molecular weight poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) subjected to CO2 and Ar at high pressure was measured in situ. The samples were subjected to gas exposure for 3 h at 40 °C before a conical indenter of an included angle at 105 °, with a fixed load of 0.237 kg, was applied for a loading time of 60 s. The data show that both CO2 and Ar reduce the hardness of PMMA to a comparable extent at low pressures. The hardness of PMMA subjected to Ar indicates a minimum at about 4 MPa and then increases. CO2 produced a monotone decreasing trend in hardness in the pressure range studied, and the glass‐transition temperature (Tg) was achieved at about 6.0 MPa. The change in hardness is attributed to plasticization of the polymer matrix that is more extensive for CO2. The relationship between the change in hardness for this PMMA subjected to high‐pressure CO2, the corresponding change in the Tg, and the associated swelling of the polymer is discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Thermal polymerization of DL ‐α‐lipoic acid (LPA) in bulk without any initiator proceeded easily above the melting point of LPA. The molecular weight polymer determined by GPC was high. From the 1H NMR spectra of polymers, poly(LPA) obtained from polymerization of high purity LPA was to consist of cyclic structures, which was confirmed by ESI‐MS. Interlocked polymer consisting of poly(LPA) and dibenzo‐30‐crown‐10 entangled with each other was synthesized by the polymerization of LPA in the presence of dibenzo‐30‐crown‐10. From the DSC analysis of the polymers, glass transition temperature was estimated to be about ?11 °C, but melting point was not observed, indicating that poly(LPA) is an amorphous polymer. By photodecomposition of poly(LPA), Mn was rapidly decreased at the early stage of the decomposition. After that, the Mn of the polymer kept and then was almost constant even for a prolonged reaction time. On the basis of the results, it would be presumed that poly (LPA) obtained form polymerization of high purity LPA includes an interlocked structure. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
