Summary: A novel kind of dendronized porphyrin polymers was synthesized by Sonogashira coupling of diethynyl‐functionalized porphyrin monomers and diiodo‐functionalized macromonomers bearing Fréchet‐type dendrons. The encapsulation of red‐light‐emitting porphyrin‐containing conjugated backbones into dendronized polymers can not only reduce the aggregation of polymer backbones and the self‐quenching of their fluorescence but also endow the porphyrin polymers with good solubility. We also report the optical and electrochemical properties of the porphyrin‐containing dendronized polymers.

The divergent dendronization of an ?‐caprolactone‐based polymer has been performed to provide access to dendronized polymers with sufficient biocompatibility and degradability for use as drug‐delivery scaffolds. The synthesis was performed through the tin(II) 2‐ethylhexanoate‐catalyzed polymerization of a γ‐functionalized ?‐caprolactone monomer, followed by the divergent growth of pendant polyester dendrons at each repeat unit. The resulting dendronized polymers were obtained up to the fourth generation with molecular weights as high as 80,000 Da and with polydispersities between 1.11 and 1.22. The fourth‐generation hydroxyl‐terminated dendronized polymer was degradable under a variety of aqueous conditions. A comparison of the dendronization approach with a procedure involving the ring‐opening polymerization of a second‐generation dendritic macromonomer reveals that the former procedure is best suited for the preparation of this family of dendronized polyesters because it requires shorter reaction times and affords materials with higher degrees of polymerization. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new kind of chiral dendronized binaphthyl‐containing random polyfluorene derivatives bearing different contents (3.2–14.9 mol %) of Fréchet's polyether dendritic wedges have been designed and synthesized through a versatile Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki polycondensation. Their properties have been investigated by NMR, TGA, DSC, CD, UV–vis, and photoluminescence and compared to those of poly(9,9‐dihexylfluorene) ( PF ). It was found that attachment of Fréchet's dendritic wedges into the main chain enhanced the emission efficiency and thermal stability of the copolymers. Furthermore, different from PF , good to excellent spectral stabilities in the solid state were proven for all the dendronized chiral copolymers after a thermal annealing under air at 200 °C. The second‐generation dendronized polymer P3 bearing about 15 mol % of dendritic pendants exhibited high quantum yields in both solutions and films, and excellent thermal oxidative stability. These results demonstrated that the combination of the twisted nonplanar binaphthyl and the sterically demanding dendron could efficiently suppress the intermolecular packing and aggregation at much lower dendron contents compared to other reported dendronized polyfluorenes. Additionally, the investigation of circular dichroism spectra of these chiral dendronized polymers showed a strong Cotton effect at long wavelength (378–384 nm), indicating that the chirality of binaphthyl unit was transferred to the whole polyfluorene backbone. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. First‐generation dendritic macromonomers with a methacryloyl end group on one side, long alkyl chains on the other side, and a biuret system with two urethane groups in the core have been synthesized. The synthesis comprises three steps with hexamethylene diisocyanate uretdione as the starting material. The branching points were introduced via biuret groups and the prepared macromonomers were polymerized by free and controlled radical polymerization. Depending on the reaction conditions linear dendronized polymers as well as branched dendronized polymers and microgels with long alkyl chains were obtained. Scanning force microscopy was used to visualize high molecular weight molecules spincoated on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel amphiphilic comb‐dendronized diblock copolymers composed of hydrophobic Percec‐type dendronized polystyrene block and hydrophilic comb‐like poly(ethylene oxide) grafted polymethacrylate P(PEOMA) block were designed and synthesized via two steps of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The comb‐like P(PEOMA) prepared by ATRP of macromonomers (PEOMA) with two different molecular weights (Mn = 300 and 475) were used to initiate the sequent ATRP of dendritic styrene macromonomer (DS). The molecular weights and compositions of the obtained block copolymers were determined by 1H NMR analysis. The copolymers with relatively narrow polydispersities (1.27–1.38) were thus obtained. The bulk properties of comb‐dendronized block copolymers were studied by using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized optical microscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). Similar to dendronized homopolymers, the block copolymers exhibited hexagonal columnar liquid‐crystalline phase structure. By using such amphiphilic comb‐dendronized block copolymers as building blocks, the rich self‐assembly morphologies, such as twisted string, vesicle, and large compound micelle (LCM), were obtained in a mixture of CH3OH and THF. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new kind of dendronized polymer brush with metallo‐supramolecular polymer side chains was fabricated by a combination of macromonomer and graft‐to approach. The alternating copolymers of maleic anhydride and styryl macromonomers pendant with Fréchet‐type dendrons of three generations were reported previously. In this article, terpyridine groups were introduced along the backbone of the dendronized polymers through the amidolysis of anhydride groups. The terpyridine functionalized PEO linear chains were then incorporated through the complexation of terpyridine and Ru(II) ion. Thus, dendronized polymer brushes with amphiphilic properties were synthesized. AFM analysis showed worm‐like single molecular morphologies of the polymers of three generations, and 1H NMR analysis indicated that such molecular brushes had an amphiphilic nature in solution. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, dendronized polymers with rigid backbones were synthesized from enediyne‐containing Frechet‐type dendrimers. Two generations of dendrimers were conically incorporated with 3‐(2‐(2‐(trimethylsilyl)ethynyl)phenyl)prop‐2‐yn‐1‐ol. The trimethylsilyl protection groups of enediyne units were subsequently removed, and two types of brush polymers with rigid conjugated backbone were prepared through Bergman cyclization polymerization at elevated temperature under vacuum. The dendronized polymers were characterized with GPC, IR, UV–vis, and NMR spectroscopy. Furthermore, the morphology of the dendronized polymer was revealed by atomic force microscopy. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

The first‐ and second‐generation dendronized polymers containing azobenzene mesogen were designed and successfully synthesized via free radical polymerization. The chemical structures of the monomers were confirmed by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The molecular characterizations of the polymers were performed with 1H NMR and gel permeation chromatography. The phase structures and transition behaviors were studied using differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, and small‐angle X‐ray scatter experiments. The experiment results revealed that the first‐generation dendronized polymer exhibited liquid crystalline behavior of the conventional side‐chain liquid crystalline polymer with azobenzene mesogen, that is, the polymer exhibited smectic phase structure at lower temperature and nematic phase structure at higher temperature. However, the second‐generation dendronized polymers exhibited more versatile intriguing liquid crystalline structures, namely smectic phase structure at lower temperature and columnar nematic phase structure at higher temperature, and moreover, the phase structure still remained before the decomposition temperature. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of dendritic building blocks (dendrons) of the first generation (G1) and the second generation, which carry differently protected amine groups in the periphery, is reported. The dendrons are used for the synthesis of the corresponding acrylic and methacrylic macromonomers. Their polymerization behavior under radical conditions is investigated. The G1 dendronized polymers are decorated at their peripheral amino groups, that is, with the chiral amino acid L -phenylalanine by the attach-to approach. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Attaching dendritically branched side chains to each repeat unit of a linear polymer produces molecular building blocks of nanometer‐sized dimensions called dendronized polymers. The structure of these complex molecular architectures is highly tunable and, therefore, of interest for a wide range of potential applications. The first examples of dendronized polymers prepared by living ring‐opening metathesis polymerization of oxanorbornenedicarboximide macromonomers with poly(alkyl ether) dendrons are reported. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering experiments on bulk samples confirm that the diameter of the individual cylindrical polymers can be tailored by the choice of dendron generation or the length of the hydrocarbon peripheral group. Analysis of the SAXS data based on a core‐shell model indicates that although the diameter of the cylinder increases with generation, the size of the core does not change; this suggests that these dendrons only loosely encapsulate the polymer backbone. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of polymers tethered with bis‐MPA dendrons was synthesized by a combination of divergent growth and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Macromonomers of first and second generation were synthesized utilizing the acetonide protected anhydride of bis‐MPA as the generic esterfication agent. The macromonomers were polymerized in a controlled fashion by ATRP utilizing Cu(I)/Cu(II) and N‐propyl‐2‐pyridylmethanamine as the halogen/ligand system. The end‐groups of these polymers were further tailored to achieve hydroxyl, acetate, and aliphatic hexadecyl functionality. With this approach all polymers will emanate from the same backbone, enabling for an evaluation of both the generation and end‐group dependent properties. Furthermore, a dendronized tri‐block copolymer was synthesized. All materials were analyzed by 1H and 13C NMR, as well as size‐exclusion chromatography (SEC). The SEC analysis revealed that the molecular weights of the divergently grown dendronized polymers increased with increasing generation while the polydispersity (PDI) was kept low. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two kinds of amphiphilic dendronized conjugated polymers, polyfluorene (PF) and poly(binaphthyl‐alt‐fluorene) (PBF), were synthesized by Suzuki polycondensation of hydrophobic macromonomers with two nonpolar octyloxy chains and hydrophilic macromonomers with two polar oligo(ethylene oxide) chains. In these polymers, PF possesses a linear rod‐like backbone structure, and PBF adopts a folded rigid backbone structure. The different configurations in the conjugated main chains result in different supramolecular self‐assembly morphologies. The optical and thermal properties of PF and PBF were also studied. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 574–584, 2008  相似文献

The first (G1) and second generation (G2) of dendronized copolymers carrying solvatochromic dyes were synthesized, and their thermoresponsive properties investigated. These copolymers were constituted with oligoethylene glycol (OEG)‐based dendrons to afford the thermoresponsiveness and disperse red 1 to act as the dye probe. The possible architecture and structure effects on sensoring were investigated by changing dendron generation from G1 to G2, and the interior structures of G2 polymers from hydrophilic OEG into hydrophobic alkyl chain. The sensoring ability of these copolymers to temperature and solution pH was examined with UV/Vis spectroscopy. Combined with the supports from fluorescence spectroscopy, remarkable thickness effects of dendronized polymers were discovered on the transitions of the dye moieties during the thermally‐induced aggregation process. This work enriches the field of thermoresponsive colorimetric polymeric sensors, and provides an in‐depth understanding of state changes of the dye probe during the thermally‐induced phase transitions within these bulky dendronized polymers. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of poly(fluorene‐coalt‐phenylene)s containing various generations of dendritic oxadiazole (OXD) pendent wedges were synthesized by the Suzuki polycondensation of OXD‐functionalized 1,4‐dibromophenylene with 9,9‐dihexylfluorene‐2,7‐diboronic ester. The obtained polymers possessed excellent solubility in common solvents and good thermal stability. Photophysical studies showed that the dendronized polymers appended with higher generations of OXD dendrons exhibited enhanced photoluminescence efficiencies and narrower values of the full width at half‐maximum. This was attributed to the shielding effect induced by the bulky dendritic OXD side chains, which prevented self‐quenching and suppressed the formation of aggregates/excimers. The energy transfer from the OXD dendrons to the polymer backbones was very efficient when excitation of the peripheral OXD dendrons resulted mainly in the polymer backbone emission alone. In particular, the photoluminescence emission intensities by the sensitized excitations of OXD dendrons in solid films of the polymers were all stronger than those by the direct excitations of their polymer conjugated backbones. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the first results of persistent spectral hole burning of dendrimer porphyrins having three‐, four‐, or five‐layered aryl ether dendritic arrays. We evaluate structural relaxations of dendrimer framework around the porphyrin core at low temperatures. A large environmental change around the porphyrin core, as evaluated from the hole area, was suppressed in dendrimer porphyrins of higher generation numbers, whereas a small environmental change, as evaluated from hole width, showed no dependence on the number of generations. The dendrimer porphyrins showed sharp holes at 20 K, suggesting a long dephasing time and the suppression of spontaneous spectral diffusion. The results of dendrimer‐embedded polymer sample indicated that the structural relaxation of polymer chain outside the dendrimer does not have an influence on the resonant frequency of the porphyrin core. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Semiconducting oligomers and polymers decorated with two or one dendronized tpy‐Ru(II)‐tpy metallocomplexes are presented. Initially, free terpyridine end‐functionalized semiconducting oligomers (distyrylanthracene, quinquephenylene, mono‐ and trifluorenes) were prepared while in a second approach, atom transfer radical polymerization was employed for the preparation of side‐chain oligomeric and polymeric (oxadiazole)s using a terpyridine initiator. These terpyridine‐bearing oligomers and polymers were complexated with a Percec‐type first‐generation (G1) dendronized terpyridine–Ru(III)Cl3 monocomplex, having two dodecyloxy groups. All oligomeric and polymeric metallocomplexes were characterized via NMR spectroscopies for their structural perfection and via UV‐Vis and PL spectroscopies for their optical properties. The existence of the organic semiconducting blocks in combination with the terpyridine–Ru(II)–terpyridine groups afforded hybrid metallo‐semiconducting species presenting the optical features of both their components. Moreover, their thin‐film morphologies were investigated through atomic force microscopy, revealing, in some cases, an organization tendency in the nanometer scale. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aryl isocyanides bearing free‐base and metallo‐porphyrins were prepared and polymerized with a Pd–Pt μ‐ethynediyl complex as the initiator to give polymers with narrow polydispersity indices. The molecular weights of the resulting polymers were precisely controlled by the initial feed ratio of the porphyrin monomer to the initiator. The UV–VIS spectra suggested that the porphyrin pendants are regularly arranged to form stacked columns. Metallo‐porphyrin polymers were also prepared by reacting free‐base porphyrin polymers with metal salts. The successive reactions of free‐base and zinc‐porphyrin monomers resulted in the formation of diblock polymers. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis, structural, and retrostructural analysis of a library of self‐assembling dendrons containing triethyl and tripropyl ammonium, pyridinium and 3‐methylimidazolium chloride, tetrafluoroborate, and hexafluorophosphate at their apex are reported. These dendritic ionic liquids self‐assemble into supramolecular columns or spheres which self‐organize into 2D hexagonal or rectangular and 3D cubic or tetragonal liquid crystalline and crystalline lattices. Structural analysis by X‐ray diffraction experiments demonstrated the self‐assembly of supramolecular dendrimers containing columnar and spherical nanoscale ionic liquid reactors segregated in their core. Both in the supramolecular columns and spheres the noncovalent interactions mediated by the ionic liquid provide a supramolecular polymer and therefore, these assemblies represent a new class of dendronized supramolecular polymers. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two novel dendritic macromonomers 7 and 8 functionalized with electroactive conjugated thiophene oligomers were synthesized by stepwise cross‐coupling reactions and the introduction of a vinyl group at the focal point. Both macromonomers were polymerized into dendronized polymers 9 and 10 by using a radical polymerization method. The photophysical and redox behaviors of dendronized polymers 9 and 10 are significantly different from those of the corresponding macromonomers. This difference may result from the spatial overlapping of thiophene dendrons through π–π interactions when the dendrons are connected to a polymer backbone. The dendronized polymers can organize into large‐area two‐dimensional sheets with a thickness of 4.8 nm. Polymer 9 , which has all‐dendritic thiophene side chains, exhibited enhanced conductivity by partial doping with iodine or nitrosonium tetrafluoroborate (NOBF4). The novel amphiphilic dendronized polymer 15 was synthesized by the atom‐transfer radical polymerization of macromonomer 7 from a poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) macroinitiator and was found to have a self‐organized structure in water.  相似文献

Four generations of dendronized polymers with a methacrylate backbone and hydroxy‐functionalized aliphatic polyester dendrons based on 2,2‐bis(methylol)propionic acid were studied in solutions by rheological measurements, dynamic light scattering, turbidimetry, and 1H NMR self‐diffusion measurements to reveal the effect of increasing hydrophilicity and molecular size on their solution properties. The studied polymers were interesting new amphiphiles with a hydrophobic main chain and a hydrophilic shell. Evidence of aggregation upon the heating of the first‐generation polymer in an aqueous solution was obtained by dynamic light scattering and turbidimetry, reflecting the effect of the hydrophobic polymer backbone, whereas the higher generation polymers did not show aggregation upon heating. Although the dimensions of the polymers were observed to increase with increasing generation, all the polymers exhibited low viscosities and Newtonian flow behavior in both aqueous and dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. The relative viscosities of the polymers in water and dimethyl sulfoxide showed that the conformation of the polymers was somewhat more open in dimethyl sulfoxide, and this led to higher viscosities than those in water, in agreement with the 1H NMR diffusion measurements, by which the dimensions were found to be larger for the polymers dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
