The well‐defined azobenzene‐containing homopolymers, poly{6‐(4‐phenylazophenoxy)hexyl methacrylate (AHMA)} (PAHMA), were synthesized via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) in anisole solution using 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl 1‐dithionaphthalate (CPDN) as the RAFT agent and 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator. The first‐order kinetic plot of the polymerization and the linear dependence of molecular weights of the homopolymers with the relatively low polydispersity index values (PDIs ≤ 1.25) on the monomer conversions were observed. Furthermore, the amphiphilic diblock copolymer, poly{6‐(4‐phenylazophenoxy)hexyl methacrylate (AHMA)}‐b‐poly{2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA)} (PAHMA‐b‐PDMAEMA), was prepared with the obtained PAHMA as the macro‐RAFT agent. The structures and properties of the polymers were characterized by 1H NMR and GPC, respectively. Interestingly, the amphiphilic diblock copolymers in chloroform (CHCl3) solution (PAHMA23b‐PDMAEMA97 (4 × 10?5 M, Mn(GPC) = 18,400 g/mol, PDI = 1.48) and PAHMA28b‐PDMAEMA117 (6 × 10?5 M, Mn(GPC) = 19,300 g/mol, PDI = 1.51) exhibited the intense fluorescence emission at ambient temperature. Moreover, the fluorescent intensity of PAHMA‐b‐PDMAEMA in CHCl3 was sensitive to the ultraviolet irradiation at 365 nm, which increased within the first 10 min and later decreased when irradiation time was prolonged to 30 min or longer. The well distributed, self‐assembled micelles composed of azobenzene‐containing amphiphilic diblock copolymers, (PAHMA‐b‐QPDMAEMA)s (QPDMAEMA is quaternized PDMAEMA), in the mixed N,N‐dimethyl formamide (DMF)/H2O solutions were prepared. Their fluorescent intensities decreased with the increasing amount of water. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 46: 5652–5662, 2008  相似文献

3-Methyl-(E)-stilbene (3MSti) and 4-(diethylamino)-(E)-stilbene (DEASti) monomers are synthesized and polymerized separately with maleic anhydride (MAn) in a strictly alternating fashion using reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization techniques. The optimal RAFT chain transfer agents (CTAs) for each copolymerization affect the reaction kinetics and CTA compatibilities. Psuedo-first order polymerization kinetics are demonstrated for the synthesis of poly((3-methyl-(E)-stilbene)-alt-maleic anhydride) (3MSti-alt-MAn) with a thiocarbonylthio CTA (methyl 2-(dodecylthiocarbonothioylthio)−2-methylpropionate, TTCMe). In contrast, a dithioester CTA (cumyl dithiobenzoate, CDB) controls the synthesis of poly((4-(diethylamino)-(E)-stilbene)-alt-maleic anhydride) (DEASti-alt-MAn) with pseudo-first order polymerization kinetics. DEASti-alt-MAn is chain extended with 4-acryloylmorpholine (ACMO) to synthesize diblock copolymers and subsequently converted to a double hydrophilic polyampholyte block copolymers (poly((4-(diethylamino)-(E)-stilbene)-alt-maleic acid))-b-acryloylmorpholine) (DEASti-alt-MA)-b-ACMO) via acid hydrolysis. The isoelectric point and dissociation behavior of these maleic acid-containing copolymers are determined using ζ-potential and acid–base titrations, respectively. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Liquid crystalline block copolymers (LCBCPs) are fascinating for their combining molecular level liquid crystalline orders and microphase separated multidomain morphologies. Here in this article, a series of PEG‐containing side‐chain discotic LCBCPs of PEG‐bPmn with variant spacer length m = 6, 10 and degree of polymerization (DP) of discotic LC block from n = 10 to 45, have been well‐synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The RAFT process mediated by macromolecular chain transfer agent (macroCTA) shows remarkable monomer concentration dependence. The influence of the introduced PEG block on the nano‐scale microphase‐segregation and mesophase organization is closely related to the side‐chain triphenylene (TP) discogens stacking mode dependent on the spacer length. Wherein, the PEG‐bP6n series with a six‐methylene spacer exhibit consistent microphase separation with slightly disturbed yet ordered columnar structures. While for PEG‐bP10n series with a longer ten‐methylene spacer, the columnar organization in the copolymers is even improved in contrast with the low order of randomly TP stacking in their corresponding homopolymers. This work offers a viable and inspiring pathway for controlled synthesis of block copolymers with bulky side groups, as well as enhances in‐depth understanding of the hierarchical superstructure organization in discotic units involved complex block copolymers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile was carried out via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer process (RAFT) in the presence of cumyl dithiobenzoate with AIBN as initiator. Copolymerization proceeded in a controlled/“living” fashion, and the copolymer composition depended on the feed ratio of monomer pairs. Block copolymers comprising styrene and acrylonitrile (SAN) segments and various functional blocks were synthesized through chain extension using the first blocks as macromolecular chain transfer agents (macroCTAs). Since the polymerization of both blocks proceeded through the RAFT process, the resulting block copolymers exhibited relatively narrow molecular weight distribution, with polydispersity indices in the range of 1.29–1.46. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and 1H NMR and FTIR measurements confirmed the successful synthesis of the functionalized block copolymers. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four families of hyperbranched amphiphilic block copolymers of styrene (Sty, less polar monomer) and 2‐vinylpyridine (2VPy, one of the two more polar monomers) or 4‐vinylpyridine (4VPy, the other polar monomer) were prepared via self‐condensing vinyl reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (SCVP‐RAFT). Two families contained 4VPy as the more polar monomer, one of which possessing a Sty‐b‐4VPy architecture, and the other possessing the reverse block architecture. The other two families bore 2VPy as the more polar monomer and had either a 2VPy‐b‐Sty or a Sty‐b‐2VPy architecture. Characterization of the hyperbranched block copolymers in terms of their molecular weights and compositions indicated better control when the VPy monomers were polymerized first. Control over the molecular weights of the hyperbranched copolymers was also confirmed with the aminolysis of the dithioester moiety at the branching points to produce linear polymers with number‐average molecular weights slightly greater than the theoretically expected ones, due to recombination of the resulting thiol‐terminated linear polymers. The amphiphilicity of the hyperbranched copolymers led to their self‐assembly in selective solvents, which was probed using atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering, which indicated the formation of large spherical micelles of uniform diameter. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, the amphiphilic block copolymers containing polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS), namely PMAPOSS‐b‐PAA and PMAPOSS‐b‐P(AA‐co‐St), were synthesized consecutively by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer and selective hydrolysis, and characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. In the presence of the nearly gradient styrene distribution along the hydrophilic block with a feed molar ratio of tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) to St being 10/1, patterned core‐corona nanoparticles (NPs) were formed from the mixture of good/selective solvents (THF/water) by a simple evaporation process at room temperature. With the extending of the co‐block length, the self‐assembled NPs exhibited phase separation behavior of spheres‐dispersed, onion‐like and onion‐cluster hierarchical structures in turn. However, while a change in the feed molar ratio occurred, it resulted in the formation of typical core‐shell micelles (20/1, tBA/St) and disordered particles (5/1, tBA/St), respectively. Furthermore, the self‐assembly behavior of PMAPOSS‐b‐P(AA‐co‐St) in DMF was investigated, which showed that it could perform a mixture morphology of well‐dispersive sphere micelles and large aggregate of micelles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A detailed study of the pH‐ and sugar‐responsive behavior of poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid pinacol ester)‐b‐poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PAPBAE‐b‐PDMA) block copolymers is presented. Reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization of the pinacol ester of 3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid resulted in homopolymers with molecular weights between 12,000 and 37,000 g/mol. The resulting homopolymers were employed as macro‐chain transfer agents during the polymerization of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA). Successful chain extension and removal of the pinacol protecting groups to yield poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid)‐b‐PDMA (PAPBA‐b‐PDMA) with free boronic acid moieties resulted in pH‐ and sugar‐responsive block copolymers that were subsequently investigated for their behavior in aqueous solution. The PAPBA‐b‐PDMA block copolymers were capable of solution self‐assembly due to the PAPBA block being water‐insoluble below its pKa. The resulting aggregates were demonstrated to solubilize and release model hydrophobic compounds, as demonstrated by fluorescence studies. Dissociation of the aggregates was induced by raising the pH above the pKa of the boronic acid residues or by adding sugars capable of forming boronate esters. Aggregate size, dissociation kinetics, and the effect of various sugars were considered. The critical sugar concentration needed to induce aggregate dissociation was tuned by incorporation of hydrophilic DMA units within the PAPBA responsive segment to yield PDMA‐b‐poly(3‐acrylamidophenylboronic acid‐co‐DMA) block copolymers. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization has emerged as one of the important living radical polymerization techniques. Herein, we report the polymerization of di(ethylene glycol) 2‐ethylhexyl ether acrylate (DEHEA), a commercially‐available monomer consisting of an amphiphilic side chain, via RAFT by using bis(2‐propionic acid) trithiocarbonate as the chain transfer agent (CTA) and AIBN as the radical initiator, at 70 °C. The kinetics of DEHEA polymerization was also evaluated. Synthesis of well‐defined ABA triblock copolymers consisting of poly(tert‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA) or poly(octadecyl acrylate) (PODA) middle blocks were prepared from a PDEHEA macroCTA. By starting from a PtBA macroCTA, a BAB triblock copolymer with PDEHEA as the middle block was also readily prepared. These amphiphilic block copolymers with PDEHEA segments bearing unique amphiphilic side chains could potentially be used as the precursor components for construction of self‐assembled nanostructures. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diblock copolymers consisting of a multibranched polymethacrylate segment with densely grafted poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] pendants and a poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) segment were synthesized by a combination of living cationic polymerization and RAFT polymerization. A macromonomer having both a poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] backbone and a terminal methacryloyl group was synthesized by living cationic polymerization. The sequential RAFT copolymerizations of the macromonomer and N‐isopropylacrylamide in this order were performed in aqueous media employing 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate as a chain transfer agent and 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoic acid) as an initiator. The obtained diblock copolymers possessed relatively narrow molecular weight distributions and controlled molecular weights. The thermoresponsive properties of these polymers were investigated. Upon heating, the aqueous solutions of the diblock copolymers exhibited two‐stage thermoresponsive properties denoted by the appearance of two cloud points, indicating that the densely grafted poly[2‐(2‐methoxyethoxy)ethyl vinyl ether] pendants and the poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) segments independently responded to temperature. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the syntheses and solution behavior of model amphiphilic dendritic–linear diblock copolymers that self‐assemble in aqueous solutions into micelles with thermoresponsive shells. The investigated materials are constructed of poly(benzyl ether) monodendrons of the second generation ([G‐2]) or third generation ([G‐3]) and linear poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). [G‐2]‐PNIPAM and [G‐3]‐PNIPAM dendritic–linear diblock copolymers have been prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerizations of N‐isopropylacrylamide with a [G‐2]‐ or [G‐3]‐based RAFT agent, respectively. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) of [G‐3]‐PNIPAM220, determined by surface tensiometry, is 6.3 × 10?6 g/mL, whereas [G‐2]‐PNIPAM235 has a cmc of 1.0 × 10?5 g/mL. Transmission electron microscopy results indicate the presence of spherical micelles in aqueous solutions. The thermoresponsive conformational changes of PNIPAM chains located at the shell of the dendritic–linear diblock copolymer micelles have been thoroughly investigated with a combination of dynamic and static laser light scattering and excimer fluorescence. The thermoresponsive collapse of the PNIPAM shell is a two‐stage process; the first one occurs gradually in the temperature range of 20–29 °C, which is much lower than the lower critical solution temperature of linear PNIPAM homopolymer, followed by the second process, in which the main collapse of PNIPAM chains takes place in the narrow temperature range of 29–31 °C. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A–B–A stereoblock polymers with atactic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) as a hydrophilic block (either A or B) and a non‐water‐soluble block consisting of isotactic PNIPAM were synthesized using reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerizations. Yttrium trifluoromethanesulfonate was used in the tacticity control, and bifunctional S,S′‐bis(α,α′‐dimethyl‐α″‐acetic acid)‐trithiocarbonate (BDAT) was utilized as a RAFT agent. Chain structures of the A–B–A stereoblock copolymers were determined using 1H NMR, SEC, and MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry. BDAT proved to be an efficient RAFT agent in the controlled synthesis of stereoregular PNIPAM, and both atactic and isotactic PNIPAM were successfully used as macro RAFT agents. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the resulting polymers were measured by differential scanning calorimetry. We found that the Tg of isotactic PNIPAM is molecular weight dependent and varies in the present case between 115 and 158 °C. Stereoblock copolymers show only one Tg, indicating the miscibility of the blocks. Correspondingly, the Tg may be varied by varying the mutual lengths of the A and B blocks. The phase separation of aqueous solutions upon increasing temperature is strongly affected by the isotactic blocks. At a fixed concentration (5 mg/mL), an increase of the isotacticity of the stereoblock copolymers decreases the demixing temperature. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel POSS‐containing methacrylate monomer (HEMAPOSS) was fabricated by extending the side chain between polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) unit and methacrylate group, which can efficiently decrease the steric hindrance in free‐radical polymerization of POSS‐methacrylate monomer. POSS‐containing homopolymers (PHEMAPOSS) with a higher degree of polymerization (DP) can be prepared using HEMAPOSS monomer via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. PHEMAPOSS was further used as the macro‐RAFT agent to construct a series of amphiphilic POSS‐containing poly(N, N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) diblock copolymers, PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA. PHEMAPOSS‐b‐PDMAEMA block copolymers can self‐assemble into a plethora of morphologies ranging from irregular assembled aggregates to core‐shell spheres and further from complex spheres (pearl‐necklace‐liked structure) to large compound vesicles. The thermo‐ and pH‐responsive behaviors of the micelles were also investigated by dynamic laser scattering, UV spectroscopy, SEM, and TEM. The results reveal the reversible transition of the assembled morphologies from spherical micelles to complex micelles was realized through acid‐base control. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Here an in‐depth analysis of reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization kinetics is reported in order to provide better definition of poly(3‐hexylthiophene) (P3HT) rod–coil block copolymers thru a more thorough understanding of the RAFT polymerization of the coil block. To this end, a new P3HT macroRAFT agent is synthesized and utilized to prepare rod–coil block copolymers with P3HT and poly(styrene), poly(tert‐butylacrylate), and poly(4‐vinylpyridine), and the RAFT polymerization kinetics of each system are fully detailed. This is achieved by a comprehensive analysis of characterization data from 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and matrix‐assisted laser desorption ionization time of flight spectroscopy, which are used as complementary techniques in order to address difficulties in accurately characterizing the synthesized polymer systems. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(2‐(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDEAEMA) homopolymers with low polydispersities were synthesized by reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) radical polymerization. The performances of two chain transfer agents, 2‐cyanoprop‐2‐yl dithiobenzoate and 4‐cyanopentanic acid dithiobenzoate (CPADB), were compared. It was found that the polymerization of 2‐(diethylamino) ethyl methylacrylate was under good control in the presence of CPADB with 4,4′‐azobis(4‐cyanopentanoic acid) (ACPA) as initiator in 1,4‐dioxane at 70 °C. The kinetic behaviors were investigated under different CPADB/ACPA molar ratios. A long polymerization inhibition period was observed at high [CPADB]/[ACPA] ratio. The influences of [CPADB]/[ACPA] ratio, monomer/[CPADB] ratio, and temperature were studied with respect to monomer conversion, molecular weight control, and polydispersity index (PDI). The PDI decreased from 1.21 to 1.12, as the CPADB/ACPA molar ratio changed from 2 to 10. The molecular weight of PDEAEMA could be controlled by monomer/CPADB molar ratio. The control over MW and PDI was improved as the temperature increased from 60 to 70 °C; however, an additional increase to 80 °C led to a loss of control. Using PDEAEMA macroRAFT agent, pH/thermo double‐responsive block copolymers of PDEAEMA and poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PDEAEMA‐b‐PNIPAM) with narrow polydispersity (PDI, 1.24) were synthesized. The lower critical solution temperature of PDEAEMA‐b‐PNIPAM block copolymer depended on the environmental pH. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The first‐ and second‐generation well‐defined thermoresponsive amphiphilic linear–dendritic diblock copolymers based on hydrophilic linear poly(N‐vinylcaprolactam) and hydrophobic dendritic aromatic polyamide have been synthesized via reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of N‐vinylcaprolactam by employing dendritic chain‐transfer agents possessing a single dithiocarbamate moiety at the focal point. These linear–dendritic copolymers exhibit reversible temperature‐dependent phase transition behaviors in aqueous solution as characterized by turbidity measurements using UV–vis spectroscopy. Their lower critical solution temperatures depend on the generation of the dendritic aromatic polyamides and the concentrations of the copolymer solutions. These amphiphilic copolymers are able to form nanospherical micelles in the aqueous solution as revealed by fluorescent spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The core–shell structure of micelles has been proved by 1H NMR analyses of the micelles in D2O. The micelles loaded with indomethacin as a model drug showed high‐drug loading capacity and thermoresponsive drug release behavior. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Two chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymers with different relative lengths of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks, poly(6‐O‐p‐vinylbenzyl‐1,2:3,4‐Di‐O‐isopropylidene‐D ‐galactopyranose)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) and poly(20‐(hydroxymethyl)‐pregna‐1,4‐dien‐3‐one methacrylate)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) or poly(MAC‐HPD)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM) were synthesized via consecutive reversible addition‐fragmentation chain‐transfer polymerizations of VBCPG or MAC‐HPD and NIPAAM. The chemical structures of these diblock copolymers were characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. These amphiphilic diblock copolymers could self‐assemble into micelles in aqueous solution, and the morphologies of micelles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. By comparison with the lower critical solution temperatures (LCST) of poly(NIPAAM) homopolymer in deionized water (32 °C), a higher LCST of the chiral amphiphilic diblock copolymer (poly(VBCPG)‐b‐poly(NIPAAM)) was observed and the LCST increased with the relative length of the poly(VBCPG) block in the copolymer from 35 to 47 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this work, the synthesis and characterization of novel amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(2‐dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate)‐b‐poly(lauryl methacrylate), PDMAEMA‐b‐PLMA, using the reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique, are reported. The diblocks were successfully derivatized to cationic and zwitterionic block polyelectrolytes by quaternization and sulfobetainization of the PDMAEMA block, respectively. Furthermore, their molecular and physicochemical characterization was performed by using characterization techniques such as NMR and FTIR, size exclusion chromatography, light scattering techniques, and transmission electron microscopy. The structure of the diblock micelles, their behavior, and properties in aqueous solution were investigated under the effect of pH, temperature, and ionic strength, as PDMAEMA and its derivatives are stimuli‐responsive polymers and exhibit responses to variations of at least one of these physicochemical parameters. These new families of stimuli‐responsive block copolymers respond to changes of their environment giving interesting nanostructures, behavioral motifs, and properties, rendering them useful as nanocarriers for drug delivery and gene therapy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new, simple, and cost‐effective approach toward the development of well‐defined optically active diblock copolymers based on methacrylate monomers is described for the first time. Starting from the low‐cost optically active (S)‐(?)‐2‐methyl‐1‐butanol, a new optically active methacrylic monomer, namely, (S)‐(+)‐2‐methyl‐1‐butyl methacrylate [(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA], was synthesized. Reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization was then used for preparing well‐defined poly[(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA] homopolymers and water‐soluble diblock copolymers based on [(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA] and the hydrophilic and ionizable monomer 2‐(dimethyl amino)ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA). The respective homopolymers and diblock copolymers were characterized in terms of their molecular weights, polydispersity indices, and compositions by size exclusion chromatography and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Polarimetry measurements were used to determine the specific optical rotations of these systems. The structural and compositional characteristics of micellar nanostructures possessing an optically active core generated by p((S)‐(+)‐MBuMA)‐b‐p(DMAEMA) chains characterized by predetermined molecular characteristics may be easily tuned to match biological constructs. Consequently, the aggregation behavior of the p[(S)‐(+)‐MBuMA]‐b‐p[DMAEMA] diblock copolymers was investigated in aqueous media by means of dynamic light scattering and atomic force microscopy, which revealed the formation of micelles in neutral and acidified aqueous solutions. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Organic–inorganic hybrid diblock copolymers composed of poly(ε‐caprolactone) and poly(MA POSS) [PCL‐b‐P(MA POSS)] were synthesized via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization of 3‐methacryloxypropylheptaphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA POSS) with dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) as the macromolecular chain transfer agent. The dithiobenzoate‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐CTA) was synthesized via the atom transfer radical reaction of 2‐bromopropionyl‐terminated PCL with bis(thiobenzoyl)disulfide in the presence of the complex of copper (I) bromide with N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine. The results of molecular weights and polydispersity indicate that the polymerizations were in a controlled fashion. The organic–inorganic diblock copolymer was incorporated into epoxy to afford the organic–inorganic nanocomposites. The nanostructures of the organic–inorganic composites were investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis shows that the organic–inorganic nanocomposites displayed the increased yields of degradation residues compared to the control epoxy. In the organic–inorganic nanocomposites, the inorganic block [viz., P(MA POSS)] had a tendency to enrich at the surface of the materials and the dewettability of surface for the organic–inorganic nanocomposites were improved in terms of the measurement of surface contact angles. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
