Cascadic multigrid methods for parabolic problems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper,we consider the cascadic multigrid method for a parabolic type equation.Backward Euler approximation in time and linear finite element approximation in space are employed.A stability result is established under some conditions on the smoother.Using new and sharper estimates for the smoothers that reflect the precise dependence on the time step and the spatial mesh parameter, these conditions are verified for a number of popular smoothers.Optimal error bound sare derived for both smooth and non-smooth data.Iteration strategies guaranteeing both the optimal accuracy and the optimal complexity are presented.  相似文献

In this article, we discuss and analyze new conforming virtual element methods (VEMs) for the approximation of semilinear parabolic problems on convex polygonal meshes in two spatial dimension. The spatial discretization is based on polynomial and suitable nonpolynomial functions, and a Euler backward scheme is employed for time discretization. The discrete formulation of both the proposed schemes—semidiscrete and fully discrete (with time discretization) is discussed in detail, and the unique solvability of the resulted schemes is discussed. A priori error estimates for the proposed schemes (semidiscrete and fully discrete) in H1‐ and L2‐norms are derived under the assumption that the source term f is Lipschitz continuous. Some numerical experiments are conducted to illustrate the performance of the proposed scheme and to confirm the theoretical convergence rates.  相似文献

非线性抛物型方程有限元法数值积分的有效性   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Abstract. The effect of numerical integration in finite element methods applied to a class of nonlinear parabolic equations is considered and some sufficient conditions on the quadrature scheme to ensure that the order of convergence is unaltered in the presence of numerical integration are given. Optimal Lz and H1 estimates for the error and its time derivative are established.  相似文献

We analyze the spatially semidiscrete piecewise linear finite volume element method for parabolic equations in a convex polygonal domain in the plane. Our approach is based on the properties of the standard finite element Ritz projection and also of the elliptic projection defined by the bilinear form associated with the variational formulation of the finite volume element method. Because the domain is polygonal, special attention has to be paid to the limited regularity of the exact solution. We give sufficient conditions in terms of data that yield optimal order error estimates in L2 and H 1 . The convergence rate in the L norm is suboptimal, the same as in the corresponding finite element method, and almost optimal away from the corners. We also briefly consider the lumped mass modification and the backward Euler fully discrete method. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2004  相似文献

The article is devoted to a kind of higher‐order finite volume element methods, where the dual partitions are constructed by Barlow points, for elliptic and parabolic problems in one space dimension. Techniques to derive the stability and to control the nonsymmetry are presented. Superconvergence and the optimal order errors in the H1‐ and L2‐norms are obtained. Numerical results illustrate the theoretical findings. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 31: 977–994, 2015  相似文献

We treat the finite volume element method (FVE) for solving general second order elliptic problems as a perturbation of the linear finite element method (FEM), and obtain the optimal H1 error estimate, H1 superconvergence and Lp (1 < p ≤ ∞) error estimates between the solution of the FVE and that of the FEM. In particular, the superconvergence result does not require any extra assumptions on the mesh except quasi‐uniform. Thus the error estimates of the FVE can be derived by the standard error estimates of the FEM. Moreover we consider the effects of numerical integration and prove that the use of barycenter quadrature rule does not decrease the convergence orders of the FVE. The results of this article reveal that the FVE is in close relationship with the FEM. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 19: 693–708, 2003.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the time discretization of nonlinear evolution equations. We work in an abstract Banach space setting of analytic semigroups that covers fully nonlinear parabolic initial-boundary value problems with smooth coefficients. We prove convergence of variable stepsize backward Euler discretizations under various smoothness assumptions on the exact solution. We further show that the geometric properties near a hyperbolic equilibrium are well captured by the discretization. A numerical example is given.

In this paper, we present a mixed covolume method for parabolic equations on triangular grids. This method use the lowest order Raviart–Thomas (R–T) mixed finite element space as the trial space. We prove the optimal order of convergence for the approximate pressure and velocity in L2-norm. Furthermore, we obtain the quasi-optimal error estimates for the approximate pressure in L-norm.  相似文献

In this article, a finite element Galerkin method is applied to a general class of nonlinear and nonlocal parabolic problems. Based on an exponential weight function, new a priori bounds which are valid for uniform in time are derived. As a result, existence of an attractor is proved for the problem with nonhomogeneous right hand side which is independent of time. In particular, when the forcing function is zero or decays exponentially, it is shown that solution has exponential decay property which improves even earlier results in one dimensional problems. For the semidiscrete method, global existence of a unique discrete solution is derived and it is shown that the discrete problem has an attractor. Moreover, optimal error estimates are derived in both and ‐norms with later estimate is a new result in this context. For completely discrete scheme, backward Euler method with its linearized version is discussed and existence of a unique discrete solution is established. Further, optimal estimates in ‐norm are proved for fully discrete schemes. Finally, several numerical experiments are conducted to confirm our theoretical findings. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we develop a partially penalty immersed interface finite element (PIFE) method for a kind of anisotropy diffusion models governed by the elliptic interface problems with discontinuous tensor‐coefficients. This method is based on linear immersed interface finite elements (IIFE) and applies the discontinuous Galerkin formulation around the interface. We add two penalty terms to the general IIFE formulation along the sides intersected with the interface. The flux jump condition is weakly enforced on the smooth interface. By proving that the piecewise linear function on an interface element is uniquely determined by its values at the three vertices under some conditions, we construct the finite element spaces. Therefore, a PIFE procedure is proposed, which is based on the symmetric, nonsymmetric or incomplete interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin formulation. Then we prove the consistency and the solvability of the procedure. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments show that the PIFE solution possesses optimal‐order error estimates in the energy norm and norm.© 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, we study the semidiscrete H 1-Galerkin mixed finite element method for parabolic problems over rectangular partitions. The well-known optimal order error estimate in the L 2-norm for the flux is of order 𝒪(h k+1) (SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 35 (2), (1998), pp. 712–727), where k ≥ 1 is the order of the approximating polynomials employed in the Raviart–Thomas element. We derive a superconvergence estimate of order 𝒪(h k+3) between the H 1-Galerkin mixed finite element approximation and an appropriately defined local projection of the flux variable when k ≥ 1. A the new approximate solution for the flux with superconvergence of order 𝒪(h k+3) is realized via a postprocessing technique using local projection methods.  相似文献

We formulate and analyze a Crank-Nicolson finite element Galerkin method and an algebraically-linear extrapolated Crank-Nicolson method for the numerical solution of a semilinear parabolic problem with nonlocal boundary conditions. For each method, optimal error estimates are derived in the maximum norm.Dedicated to Professor J. A finite element method is proposed and analyzed for hyperbolic problems with discontinuous coefficients. The main emphasize is given on the convergence of such method. Due to low global regularity of the solutions, the error analysis of the standard finite element method is difficult to adopt for such problems. For a practical finite element discretization, optimal error estimates in L(L2) and L(H1) norms are established for continuous time discretization. Further, a fully discrete scheme based on a symmetric difference approximation is considered, and optimal order convergence in L(H1) norm is established. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study a new class of finite elements so‐called composite finite elements (CFEs), introduced earlier by Hackbusch and Sauter, Numer. Math., 1997; 75:447‐472, for the approximation of nonlinear parabolic equation in a nonconvex polygonal domain. A two‐scale CFE discretization is used for the space discretizations, where the coarse‐scale grid discretized the domain at an appropriate distance from the boundary and the fine‐scale grid is used to resolve the boundary. A continuous, piecewise linear CFE space is employed for the spatially semidiscrete finite element approximation and the temporal discretizations is based on modified linearized backward Euler scheme. We derive almost optimal‐order convergence in space and optimal order in time for the CFE method in the L(L2) norm. Numerical experiment is carried out for an L‐shaped domain to illustrate our theoretical findings.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to a newly developed weak Galerkin finite element method with the stabilization term for a linear fourth order parabolic equation, where weakly defined Laplacian operator over discontinuous functions is introduced. Priori estimates are developed and analyzed in L2 and an H2 type norm for both semi‐discrete and fully discrete schemes. And finally, numerical examples are provided to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

Bhupen Deka Department of Mathematics, Assam University, Silchar-788011, India A finite-element discretization, independent of the locationof the interface, is proposed and analysed for linear ellipticand parabolic interface problems. We establish error estimatesof optimal order in the H1-norm and almost optimal order inthe L2-norm for elliptic interface problems. An extension toparabolic interface problems is also discussed and an optimalerror estimate in the L2(0, T;H1())-norm and an almost optimalorder estimate in the L2(0, T;L2())-norm are derived for thespatially discrete scheme. A fully discrete scheme based onthe backward Euler method is analysed and an optimal order errorestimate in the L2(0, T;H1())-norm is derived. The interfacesare assumed to be of arbitrary shape and smooth for our purpose.  相似文献

Consider a homogeneous parabolic problem on a smooth bounded domain in ℝ N but with initial data and Neumann boundary data of low regularity. Sharp interior maximum norm error estimates are given for a semidiscrete C 0 finite element approximation to this problem. These estimates are obtained by first establishing a new localized L estimate for semidiscrete finite element approximations on interior subdomains. Numerical examples illustrate the findings.
