The influence of the tacticity on PVC reactivity is discussed on the basis of preliminary results obtained in ionic dehydrohalo, genation and chlorination reactions. From the reaction of an atactic PVC and a 70% syndiotactic PVC with LiCl in dimethyl-formamide and hexamethylphosphortriamide as solvents, it follows that both the reaction rate and the polyene sequence distribution depend markedly on the syndiotacticity content. This effect is accounted for by the fact that the isotactic parts are preferred in dimethylformamide and the syndiotactic ones in hexamethylphosphoramide. On the other hand, the chlorination of PVC appears to be easier through the heterotactic parts than through the syndiotactic sequences as shown by 13C-NMR.  相似文献

The synthesis of copolymers constituted of a central polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) block flanked by two polyamide (PA) sequences is described. α, ω-diacyllactam PDMS, when used as macroinitiator of lactam polymerization, gives rise to the expected triblock copolymer. Likewise, PDMS-g-PA graft copolymers are obtained from acyllactam containing polysiloxanes. NaAlH2(OCH2CH2OMe)2 turns out to be the best suited activating agent for the polymerization of ?-caprolactam, in the experimental conditions required for the synthesis of polysiloxane–polyamide copolymers. The nucleophilic species formed by reaction of NaAlH2(OCH2CH2OMe)2 with ?-caprolactam—2-[bis(methoxyethoxy) aluminumoxy]-1-azacycloheptane sodium—is indeed nucleophilic enough to bring about the growth of PA chains and mild enough to stay inert towards PDMS. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Poly(dipentylsilylene) copolymers containing n‐pentyl‐n‐oct‐7‐enylsilane units were prepared by reductive coupling of the corresponding dichlorosilanes. Linear high molecular weight and some crosslinked polymer were obtained. The soluble products exhibited optical and thermal properties like poly(dipentylsilylene). Differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate crystallization and to monitor thermal crosslinking. Vinyl functionalized side chains were hydrosilylated with dipentylsilane and dimethylchlorosilane and crosslinked via the side chains. Hydrosilylation with di‐n‐pentyl(trimethylsiloxypropyl)silane led to a partial hydroxy functionalization of the polysilylene and enabled anionic PEO grafting of the poly(dipentylsilylene). © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The photochemical behavior of p-dimethylaminobenzoylated polystyrene (PS-MI) in benzene solution has been investigated, both in the presence and absence of methyl methacrylate (MMA). This behavior has been compared with that of the model compound, 4-isopropyl-4′-N,N-dimethylaminobenzophenone (CU-MI). PS-MI photoreduction takes place only through excimer formation due to the high local chromophore concentration, and therefore, PS-MI disappearance quantum yield is close to the previously calculated limiting value (0.02) and independent of chromophore concentration. Several parameters that characterize the polymerization process have been determined; it has been found that the obtained PMMA is photografted onto PS-MI backbone. This is in agreement with the proposed mechanism for radical generation. No homo-PMMA formation has been detected. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Various natural and modified polysaccharides (i.e. arabic gum, tragacanth gum, xanthan gum, sodium alginate, chitosan, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose) were modified using ceric-initiated graft polymerization of acrylonitrile under inert atmosphere. Grafting was confirmed using spectral (FT-IR) proofs. The grafting parameters were determined by conventional methods. Thermal characteristics of the homopolymer-free copolymers were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) under nitrogen atmosphere. The major thermal transitions as well as the activation energy of the major decomposition stages were investigated. The polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-grafted polysaccharides were recognized to be thermally stable more than the corresponding non-grafted substrates, although they begin to decompose at relatively lower temperatures than the non-grafted counterparts. A series of novel “jellyfish‐like” graft copolymers with chitooligosaccharide (COS) as shorter backbone and poly(ε‐caprolactone) as longer branches were synthesized using ring‐opening polymerization of ε‐caprolactone via a protection‐polymerization‐deprotection procedure with trimethylsilylchitooligosaccharide as intermediate and triethylaluminum as catalyst precursor. The obtained chitooligosaccharide‐graft‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) polymers possess amphiphilic structure with hydrophilic COS backbone and hydrophobic polycaprolactone branches. Because of this unique “jellyfish‐like” structure, these graft copolymers could self‐assemble to form various morphologies of aggregates in a mixture solution of water and tetrahydrofuran. The transmission electron microscopy studies revealed that the formed aggregates exhibited necklace‐like, flower‐like onion vesicle, and tubular morphologies. It is found that the hydrogen‐bonding formed by the hydroxyl and amino groups remained on the COS backbone played an important role during the aggregation of these graft copolymers, and their morphologies were changed with the varying length of poly (ε‐caprolactone) branches, the concentration of the graft copolymer, and the self‐assembly process. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various PS‐based graft copolymers including polystyrene‐graft‐poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(styrene‐graft‐poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) are prepared via subsequent visible light radical photopolymerization and iniferter processes. Thus, poly(styrene‐co‐4‐chloromethylstyrene) P(S‐co‐VBC) is synthesized by light induced free‐radical polymerization. Then, chloride moieties are substituted with triphenylmethyl (trityl) groups to give trityl‐substituted PS (PS‐trityl) under visible light irradiation using dimanganese decacarbonyl (Mn2(CO)10) photochemistry. Side chains are then grafted from PS‐trityl backbone via iniferter process to give desired graft copolymers in a controlled manner. The precursor intermediates and the final graft copolymers are analyzed by 1H NMR, FT‐IR, and GPC measurements. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐co‐poly(Nε‐benzyloxycarbonyl‐L ‐lysine) graft copolymers (PNIPAm‐co‐PZLLys) with different side chains (degree of polymerization, DP = 5~40) and unit ratios (from 30 to 70 mol %) were prepared via free radical polymerization, followed by cleaving benzyloxycarbonyl groups (Z groups) to obtain the double hydrophilic graft copolymer, poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide)‐co‐poly(L ‐lysine) (PNIPAm‐co‐PLLys). The pH‐ and temperature‐response properties of the graft copolymers in aqueous solution were studied. The experimental results indicate L15‐N30 and L15N‐70, that is, the PNIPAm‐co‐PLLys having the poly(L ‐lysine) of DP = 15 as side chains as well as 30 and 70 mol %, respectively, of PNIPAm as backbone, have coil‐to‐helix transitions from pH 6 to pH 12 at room temperature and form uniform nanoscale micelle‐like dispersions in aqueous solution at pH 12. The graft copolymers also could form uniform and nanoscale micelle‐like structures at 50 °C in pH 6 buffer solution due to slightly polymer aggregation. With temperature and pH increased, both the deprotonated PLLys side chains and PNIPAm backbone become hydrophobic, leading to polymer precipitation. These results illustrate that a double tunable hydrophilic graft copolymer had been successfully synthesized via a simple radical polymerization, and could form micelles without serious polymer aggregation at a lower pH and a higher temperature. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic comb polymers were prepared through grafting poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether (MPEG 2000) onto acrylic and methacrylic copolymers. The graft copolymers were purified from unreacted MPEG by partition chromatography on methanol pretreated fibrous cellulose using ethyl acetate and methanol as eluents. The separation was found to depend on the water contents of the cellulose and the eluents. It is proposed that one parameter of importance for the chromatographic separation is the formation of hydrated inverted micelles. The amphiphilic comb polymers were shown by gel chromatography on Sepharose to form high molecular weight aggregates in water. On addition of sodium lauryl sulphate or inorganic salts to the eluent at low ionic strengths these aggregates dissociated and were fractionated by the gel. It was also shown that on GPC in THF solution on Styragel columns the polymers exhibited apparent molecular weights equal or smaller than those of the corresponding backbones. This effect may be a consequence of the graft copolymers having relatively small hydrodynamic volumes, and this idea is supported by the fact that their intrinsic viscosities generally were lower than those of the backbones. However, adsorption on the Styragel columns also may be of importance.  相似文献

A thiophene‐functionalized methacrylate monomer (3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) was synthesized via the esterification of 3‐thiophene methanol with methacryloyl chloride. The methacrylate monomer was polymerized by free‐radical polymerization in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator. Graft copolymers of poly(3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) (PMTM2) and polypyrrole and of PMTM2 and polythiophene were synthesized by constant‐potential electrolyses. p‐Toluene sulfonic acid, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate were used as the supporting electrolytes. PMTM2‐coated platinum electrodes were used as anodes in the polymerization of pyrrole and thiophene. Moreover, the oxidative polymerization of poly(3‐methylthienyl methacrylate) (PMTM1) was studied with FeCl3 as the oxidant. The self‐polymerization of PMTM1 was also investigated by galvanostatic electrolysis both in dichloromethane and in propylene carbonate. The structures of PMTM1 and PMTM2 were investigated by several spectroscopic and thermal methods. The grafting process was elucidated with conductivity measurements, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscopy studies. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of two poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macromonomers, with different polymerization degrees (DPn) and different end groups, was conducted in solution via the grafting through method. Selection of a PEO methacrylate with a methyl end‐group (PEOMeMA, DPPEO = 23) and a PEO acrylate end‐capped by a phenyl ring (PEOPhA, DPPEO = 4) for the copolymerization led to a spontaneous gradient of PEO grafts along the copolymer backbone. Such a composition was formed because of significantly different reactivities of the two PEO macromonomers. The resulting copolymer has PEOMeMA at one end of the polymer chain, gradually changing through hetero‐sequences of PEOPhA at the other chain end. An increase in the initial feed ratio of PEO acrylate reduced the rate of change in the shape of the gradient. Amorphous–crystalline structure in the copolymers was demonstrated by DSC and WAXS. The mechanical measurements of copolymers consisting of an amorphous PEOPhA and crystallizable PEOMeMA segments indicated elastomeric properties in the range of a soft rubber (G′ ~ 104 Pa, G′ ? G″). © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 44: 1347–1356, 2006  相似文献

Our work is focused on facile synthesis and modification of amylopectin‐grafted block copolymers by using reversible addition?fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization technique. This technique yields polymers with controlled molecular weight and low polydispersity indexes and is feasible with a wide range of monomers. Five different grades of amylopectin‐grafted polymethacrylic acid and polyacrylamide block copolymers have been synthesized via RAFT, by varying the amount of acrylamide employing amylopectin‐based macro chain transfer agent. Graft copolymers have been upgraded as smart responsive graft copolymers, through the incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) via condensation reaction. The polymeric materials have been extensively characterized by energy‐dispersive X‐ray analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet‐visible spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X‐ray diffraction analysis. Normal and responsive graft copolymers have been studied for removal of model contaminant (kaolin), and responsive graft copolymers have been used to remove methylene blue dye (without using any adsorbent) from water by applying external magnetic field. The upgraded block copolymers have shown best performance in wastewater treatment.  相似文献

We have investigated the morphology and packing manner of graft copolymers consisting of rigid‐rod‐like poly(γ‐benzyl L ‐glutamate) (PBLG) main chains and grafted diblock copolymers of amorphous poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) and crystalline poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG). The results of differential scanning calorimetry and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering measurements for graft copolymers with higher side‐chain volume fractions suggest that the rodlike main chains and crystallized PEG chains exist in segregated domains. Small‐angle X‐ray scattering profiles for these samples show diffraction intensity maxima accompanied by higher order peaks, the positions of which suggest the formation of an ordered layered structure. From these observations, the graft copolymers are estimated to form repeated layered structure consisting of segregated PBLG, PPG, and PEG layers. A proposed model for molecular packing of the graft copolymers is consistent with the experimental observation that the repeating distance for the layered structure decreases with an increase in the volume fraction of side chains. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anionic graft copolymers were synthesized through grafting of poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (MPEG) onto terpolymers containing succicinic anhydride groups. The backbone polymers were prepared through radical terpolymerization of maleic anhydride, styrene, and one of the following monomers: methyl methacrylate, ethylhexyl methacrylate, and diethyl fumarate. MPEG of different molecular weights were grafted onto the backbone through reactions with the cyclic anhydride groups. In this reaction one carboxylic acid group is formed together with each ester bond. The molecular weights of MPEG were found to influence the rate of the grafting reaction and the final degree of conversion. The graft copolymers were characterized by IR, GPC, and 1H-NMR. Thermal properties were examined by DSC. Graft copolymers containing 50% w/w of MPEG 2000 grafts were found to be almost completely amorphous, presumably because of crosslinking, and hydrogen bonding between carboxylic acid groups in the backbone and the ether oxygens in MPEG grafts. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

A series of ternary graft copolymers with poly(3‐azido‐2‐hydroxypropyl methacrylate) (P(GMA‐N3)) as the main chain, end‐functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether (MPEG), poly(t‐butyl acrylate) (PtBA), and poly(2‐cinnamoyloxyethyl methacrylate) (PCEMA) as the side‐chains, was synthesized via the combination of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and click chemistry. The formation of well‐defined ternary graft copolymers was confirmed by both size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and 1H NMR spectroscopy The loose and worm‐like morphology of the ternary graft copolymer in a common solvent (N,N‐dimethylformamide) for both the backbone and the grafts was directly visualized via atomic force microscopy (AFM). The average height, width, and length of these solvated macromolecules were about 1.5, 17, and 45 nm, respectively. The ternary graft copolymers underwent self‐assembly in different selective solvents (dichloromethane, methanol, and water) and thus yielded unimolecular micelles (UMs) with different morphologies. The morphological transitions in response to variations in the selective solvents was investigated by AFM as well as/or transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Experimental results showed that the micellar morphology of the ternary graft copolymer changed from a pearl‐necklace to a worm‐like structure and then to a spherical structure when the selective solvent was respectively changed from CH2Cl2 to CH3OH and then to H2O. SEC characterization revealed that the compact globules formed in H2O with PCEMA/PtBA as the hydrophobic core arose due to intramolecular folding. Thus, multicompartment UMs were generated. The volume ratio of the multicompartment UMs formed in H2O was in close agreement with their molecular weight ratio. The hydrodynamic diameters (Dh) of the acquired multicompartment UMs and their polydispersity indices were characterized by dynamic light scattering. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Graft and star copolymers having poly(methacrylate) backbone and ethylene–propylene random copolymer (EPR) branches were successfully synthesized by radical copolymerization of an EPR macromonomer with methyl methacrylate (MMA). EPR macromonomers were prepared by sequential functionalization of vinylidene chain‐end group in EPR via hydroalumination, oxidation, and esterification reactions. Their copolymerizations with MMA were carried out with monofunctional and tetrafunctional initiators by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Gel‐permeation chromatography and NMR analyses confirmed that poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)‐g‐EPR graft copolymers and four‐arm (PMMA‐g‐EPR) star copolymers could be synthesized by controlling EPR contents in a range of 8.6–38.1 wt % and EPR branch numbers in a range of 1–14 branches. Transmission electron microscopy of these copolymers demonstrated well‐dispersed morphologies between PMMA and EPR, which could be controlled by the dispersion of both segments in the range between 10 nm and less than 1 nm. Moreover, the differentiated thermal properties of these copolymers were demonstrated by differential scanning calorimetry analysis. On the other hand, the copolymerization of EPR macromonomer with MMA by conventional free radical polymerization with 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) also gave PMMA‐g‐EPR graft copolymers. However, their morphology and thermal property remarkably differed from those of the graft copolymers obtained by ATRP. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of macroinitiators for the cationic polymerization of isobutylene via radical polymerization is presented. The 1,1‐diphenylethylene system was used to obtain macroinitiators consisting of 4‐chloromethylstyrene and methyl methacrylate units. The resulting polymers were used for the cationic polymerization of isobutylene, yielding graft copolymers that were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and NMR. The dependence of the molar mass and polydispersity on the temperature and monomer concentration was studied. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of novel amphiphilic star-graft (SG) copolymers containing hydrophilic poly(oxyethylene) (PEO) side chains attached to a hydrophobic backbone by multifunctional entity is reported. In a first step poly(phthalimidoacrylate-co-styrene) was converted into polymers containing different number of multifunctional branching cites distributed along the main chain by partial aminolysis of the phthalimidoacrylate units with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane. In the second step, these reactive copolymers yielded SG copolymers with different number of star-shaped PEO side groups by reaction with isocyanato terminated methoxy–PEO. The copolymers were characterized by size-exclusion chromatography, IR-, and NMR-spectroscopy. Their thermal properties were examined by thermal gravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry. The studies indicate that the grafting degree and hydrogen bonding determine to a great extent the behavior of the SG copolymers in solid state and in solution. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The crystallization and melting behavior of a series of poly(glycerol adipate) (PGA) based graft copolymers with either poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), or PCL‐b‐PEO diblock copolymer side chains (i.e., PGA‐g‐PCL, PGA‐g‐PEO, and PGA‐g‐(PCL‐b‐PEO)) was studied using polarized light optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS), and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). These results were compared with the behavior of the corresponding linear analogs (PEO, PCL, and PCL‐b‐PEO). POM revealed that spherulitic morphology was retained after grafting. However, spherulite radius as well as radial growth rate was significantly smaller in the graft copolymers. Evaluation of isothermal crystallization kinetics by means of the Avrami theory revealed that the nucleation density was much higher in the graft copolymers. The DSC results indicated that the degree of crystallinity decreased strongly upon grafting while the melting temperatures of PGA‐g‐PCL and PGA‐g‐PEO were found to be close to the values of neat PCL and PEO, respectively. This was attributed to the absence of specific thermodynamic interactions, and, additionally, to lamella thicknesses being similar to those of the homopolymers. The latter point was confirmed by SAXS measurements. In case of PCL‐b‐PEO diblock copolymers and PGA‐g‐(PCL‐b‐PEO) graft copolymers, the crystallization behavior and thus the resulting lamellar morphology is more complex, and a suitable model was developed based on a combination of DSC, WAXD, and SAXS data. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
