This Letter investigates the period-doubling cascades of canards, generated in the extended Bonhoeffer-van der Pol oscillator. Canards appear by Andronov-Hopf bifurcations (AHBs) and it is confirmed that these AHBs are always supercritical in our system. The cascades of period-doubling bifurcation are followed by mixed-mode oscillations. The detailed two-parameter bifurcation diagrams are derived, and it is clarified that the period-doubling bifurcations arise from a narrow parameter value range at which the original canard in the non-extended equation is observed.  相似文献

We study the characteristic features of certain statistical quantities near critical bifurcations such as onset of chaos, sudden widening and band-merging of chaotic attractor and intermittency in a periodically driven Duffing-van der Pol oscillator. At the onset of chaos the variance of local expansion rate is found to exhibit a self-similar pattern. For all chaotic attractors the variance Σn(q) of fluctuations of coarse-grained local expansion rates of nearby orbits has a single peak. However, multiple peaks are found just before and just after the critical bifurcations. On the other hand, Σn (q) associated with the coarse-grained state variable is zero far from the bifurcations. The height of the peak of Σn(q) is found to increase as the control parameter approached the bifurcation point. It is maximum at the bifurcation point. Power-law variation of maximal Lyapunov exponent and the mean value of the state variablex is observed near sudden widening and intermittency bifurcations while linear variation is seen near band-merging bifurcation. The standard deviation of local Lyapunov exponent λ(X,L) and the local mean valuex(L) of the coordinatex calculated after everyL time steps are found to approach zero in the limitL → ∞ asL . Β is sensitive to the values of control parameters. Further weak and strong chaos are characterized using the probability distribution of ak-step difference quantity δxk = xi+k x i.  相似文献

This paper investigates the possibility of controlling horseshoe and asymptotic chaos in the Duffing-van der Pol oscillator by both periodic parametric perturbation and addition of second periodic force. Using Melnikov method the effect of weak perturbations on horseshoe chaos is studied. Parametric regimes where suppression of horseshoe occurs are predicted. Analytical predictions are demonstrated through direct numerical simulations. Starting from asymptotic chaos we show the recovery of periodic motion for a range of values of amplitude and frequency of the periodic perturbations. Interestingly, suppression of chaos is found in the parametric regimes where the Melnikov function does not change sign.  相似文献

A two parameter mathematical model for a periodically forced nonlinear oscillator is analyzed using analytical and numerical techniques. The model displays phase locking, quasiperiodic dynamics, bistability, period-doubling bifurcations and chaotic dynamics. In area-preserving maps, the area under an invariant set as a function of frequency is a devil's staircase. We show that this staircase is the derivative of the average action of the invariant set with respect to frequency. In this paper, we investigate the complete synchronization and anti-synchronization (AS) of double-scroll chaotic attractor exhibited by an extended Bonhöffer–van der Pol (BVP) oscillator, using active control technique. In both synchronization schemes, the oscillators show good transient performance; while the AS state is further shown to correspond with complete inverse synchronization. Numerical simulations are also presented to verify the theoretical results.  相似文献

We report the experimental observation of a "devil's staircase" in a time-dependent system considered as a paradigm for the transition to large-scale chaos in the universality class of Hamiltonian systems. A test electron beam is used to observe its non-self-consistent interaction with externally excited wave(s) in a traveling wave tube (TWT). A trochoidal energy analyzer records the beam energy distribution at the output of the interaction line. An arbitrary waveform generator is used to launch a prescribed spectrum of waves along the slow wave structure (a 4 m long helix) of the TWT. The resonant velocity domain associated to a single wave is observed, as well as the transition to large-scale chaos when the resonant domains of two waves and their secondary resonances overlap. This transition exhibits a "devil's staircase" behavior for increasing excitation amplitude, due to the nonlinear forcing by the second wave on the pendulum-like motion of a charged particle in one electrostatic wave.  相似文献

A parametrically forced pendulum is studied numerically both with and without friction. In both cases, period-doubling sequences of bifurcation are found. In the dissipative case, the period-doubling sequence leads to strange attractors, while in the conservative case, the sequence is responsible for the destruction of stable zones.  相似文献

This study experimentally explored the fine structures of the successive period-doubling bifurcations of the time-dependent thermocapillary convection in a floating half zone of 10 cSt silicone oil with the diameter d0=3.00 mm and the aspect ratio A=l/d0=0.72 in terrestrial conditions.The onset of time-dependent thermocapillary convection predominated in this experimental configuration and its subsequent evolution were experimentally detected through the local temperature measurements.The experimental results revealed a sequence of period-doubling bifurcations of the time-dependent thermocapillary convection,similar in some way to one of the routes to chaos for buoyant natural convection.The critical frequencies and the corresponding fractal frequencies were extracted through the real-time analysis of the frequency spectra by Fast-Fourier-Transfor-mation(FFT).The projections of the trajectory onto the reconstructed phase-space were also provided.Furthermore,the experimentally predicted Feigenbaum constants were quite close to the theoretical asymptotic value of 4.669 [Feigenbaum M J.Phys Lett A,1979,74:375-378].  相似文献

A comparative analysis is made of the properties of certain mathematical models that have been proposed to describe the nonlinear dynamics of narrow-band oscillating systems with a lag. A modified model of a Van der Pol oscillator with a retarding feedback loop is studied numerically, and an analysis is made of the ways in which periodic motion in such systems becomes unstable and random oscillations are generated. We obtained period-adding bifurcations in a bubble formation experiment. Using the air flow rate as the control parameter in this experiment, the bubble emission from the nozzle in a viscous fluid undergoes from single bubbling to a sequence of periodic bifurcations of k to k+1 periods, occasionally interspersed with some chaotic regions. Our main assumption is that this period-adding bifurcation in bubble formation depends on flow rate variations in the chamber under the nozzle. This assumption was experimentally tested by placing a tube between the air reservoir and the chamber under the nozzle in the bubble column experiment. By increasing the tube length, more period-adding bifurcations were observed. We associated two main types of bubble growth to the flow rate fluctuations inside the chamber for different bubbling regimes. We also studied the properties of piecewise nonlinear maps obtained from the experimental reconstructed attractors, and we concluded that this experiment is a spatially extended system.  相似文献

引入谐波平衡近似解的符号运算与同伦延拓法,获得了强Van der Pol振子的解析近似极限环与稳定响应.为提高其近似精度,给出了谐波解的修正算法,并与数值模拟比较.结果表明,该算法非常精确可靠,是研究强非线性动力学系统的有效分析方法.  相似文献
