Conventional line-of-sight underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC) links suffer from huge signal fading in the presence of oceanic turbulence due to misalignment, which is caused by variations in the refractive index in the water. Non-line-of-sight(NLOS) communication, a novel underwater communication configuration,which has eased the requirements on the alignment, is supposed to enhance the robustness of the UWOC links in the presence of such turbulence. This Letter experimentally and statistically studies the impact of turbulence that arises from temperature gradient variations and the presence of different air bubble populations on NLOS optical channels. The results suggest that temperature gradient-induced turbulence causes negligible signal fading to the NLOS link. Furthermore, the presence of air bubbles with different populations and sizes can enhance the received signal power by seizing the scattering phenomena from an ultraviolet 377 nm laser diode.  相似文献

Due to the proliferation of underwater vehicles and sensors, underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC) is a key enabler for ocean exploration with a strong reliance on short-range bandwidth-intensive communications. A stable optical link is of primary importance for UWOC. A compact, low-power, and low-cost acquisition, pointing, and tracking(APT) system is proposed and experimentally demonstrated to realign the optical link within 0.04 s, even when the UWOC transmitter and receiver are in relative motion. The system successfully achieves rapid auto-alignment through a 4 m tap water channel with a relatively large number of bubbles. Furthermore, the required minimum illumination value is measured to be as low as7.1 lx, implying that the proposed APT scheme is robust to dim underwater environments. Meanwhile, mobility experiments are performed to verify the performance of the APT system. The proposed system can rapidly and automatically align moving targets in complex and unstable underwater environments, which can potentially boost the practical applications of UWOC.  相似文献

Foreseeing the proliferation of underwater vehicles and sensors, underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC) is a key enabler for ocean exploration, with strong competitiveness in short-range bandwidth-intensive applications. We provide a tutorial on the basic concepts and essential features of UWOC, as well as an overview of work being conducted in this field. Research challenges, arising from the characteristics of underwater channels, and possible roadmaps are discussed in detail. In this work, a blue gallium nitride(GaN) micro-light-emitting-diode(micro-LED)-based underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC) system was built, and UWOCs with varied Maalox, chlorophyll, and sea salt concentrations were studied. Data transmission performance of the UWOC and the influence of light attenuation were investigated systematically. Maximum data transmission rates at the distance of 2.3 m were 933, 800, 910,and 790 Mbps for experimental conditions with no impurity, 200.48 mg/m~3 Maalox, 12.07 mg/m~3 chlorophyll,and 5 kg/m~3 sea salt, respectively, much higher than previously reported systems with commercial LEDs. It was found that increasing chlorophyll, Maalox, and sea salt concentrations in water resulted in an increase of light attenuation, which led to the performance degradation of the UWOC. Further analysis suggests two light attenuation mechanisms, e.g., absorption by chlorophyll and scattering by Maalox, are responsible for the decrease of maximum data rates and the increase of bit error rates. Based on the absorption and scattering models,excellent fitting to the experimental attenuation coefficient can be achieved, and light attenuation by absorption and scattering at different wavelengths was also investigated. In this paper, we mainly investigate the outage performance of serial and parallel relay-assisted underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) systems based on a newly proposed aggregated underwater fading model. In order to overcome the deficiency of the traditional underwater weak turbulence models, that is, they could not accurately fit the measured data in the laboratory, the generalized gamma distribution (GGD) which has been verified by a series of experiments is chosen for the first time to characterize the weak oceanic turbulence. Then, we establish a new receiving signal model which has integrated the implicit path loss plus multipath propagation effect shown by fading free impulse response (FFIR), GGD weak oceanic turbulence, and nonzero boresight pointing errors. Next, we deduce the closed-form expression of the probability density function (PDF) of the hybrid fading considering GGD weak turbulence and nonzero boresight errors based on the new receiving signal model above through double-exponential Taylor expansion and higher transcendental Whittaker function. Finally, the analytical expressions of the outage probabilities for point-to-point (P2P) link, serial and parallel relay-assisted UWOC systems are further derived respectively under the proposed aggregated channel. Numerical simulations are also provided to validate the accuracy of the theoretical formulae derived above, and to show the effects of the key system parameters on the outage performance of relaying UWOC systems.  相似文献

In this paper, recent advances in underwater wireless optical communication(UWOC) are reviewed for both LED-and LD-based systems, mainly from a perspective of advanced modulation formats. Volterra series-based nonlinear equalizers, which can effectively counteract the nonlinear impairments induced by the UWOC system components, are discussed and experimentally demonstrated. Both the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed Volterra nonlinear equalizer in UWOC systems under different water turbidities are validated.To further approach the Shannon capacity limit of the UWOC system, the probabilistic constellation shaping technique is introduced, which can overcome the inherent gap between a conventional regular quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) format and the Shannon capacity of the channel. The experimental results have shown a significant system capacity improvement compared to the cases using a regular QAM.  相似文献

提出了一种将光电路交换和光突发交换融合于同一网络的边缘节点设计方案.根据此方案,网络边缘节点能根据业务需求灵活选择交换方式.该方案在实际实验系统中进行了验证.结果表明,采用光电路交换方式,网络传输速率相对较快,而采用光突发交换方式,网络的带宽利用率更好.这两种交换方式共存于同一网络,一定程度上能提高网络的灵活性和适应性.  相似文献

In this investigation, a small-form-factor (SFF) pickup head with a holographic optical element (HOE) is fabricated. The system employs a finite-conjugate object lens to focus a light beam. A holographic optical element is used to simplify the optical configuration. It provides a better means of alignment of fabrication and reduces the size of system relative to reflective light route. Micro prisms are fastened with HOE and a silicon substrate, laser diode and photodiode are integrated into the optical system. The pickup head system based on discrete components and a flip chip bonder with highly accurate alignment was to integrate it. The micro holographic optical pickup head is fabricated and tested. Experimental results including the spot diameter and the focusing error signal (FES), demonstrate that the optical system is a feasible.  相似文献

半导体激光器具有半导体和固体器件的许多优点:结构紧凑、效率高、价格便宜、长寿命,在许多方面优于气体激光器,因此在一些测量领域有较好的应用前景。本文基于棱镜对光的一维压缩及新型半导体激光器,对激光扫描声学显微镜的光学系统进行了新的设计,给出了相关数据及具体技术指标,实验证实其光学性能满足要求。整个光学系统具有结构紧凑、可靠性高、使用方便等特点,现已用于激光扫描声学显微镜定型设计。  相似文献

叙述了近年来在天津大学研究及开发光互连网络的情况。这些研究围绕着解决信号传输中的延迟和通信带宽,开展的研究工作有:完成包括64个处理器的光电混合处理器阵列系统;giga—bit/s机群系统光互连链路;在链路中采用时分复用技术(TDM),实现了“虚拟并行传输”;在链路中设计了硬件路由功能,并组成光环网;在网络系统中实现波长路由,并建立了波长路由双环网,采用该技术可以避免路由延迟;在光互连网络中应用了MEMS光开关,实现了星型一环形二级结构;用同步光传输技术实现了多通道数据传输卡。  相似文献

To realize the low-loss connection of two optical fibres intended as a transmission medium for optical signals, very tight tolerances have to be observed on account of the small geometrical dimensions involved. The present work describes a fully automatic system for the alignment of optical fibres in thex-y planes relative to a light source, which has only a single intensity peak, so that maximum optical power is launched into the fibre. The light source can be, for instance, the radiating end of a fibre, a semi-conductor laser or a light-emitting diode. The optical power coupled into the fibre serves as the control signal. Three precision displacement stages driven by stepping motors serve to align the fibres. Various sequential control algorithms for optimal coupling are investigated with reference to theory. Two algorithms are tested with the aid of a computer with reference to the alignment accuracy and speed requirements which have to be met and the one shown by theoretical simulation to be the more favourable is selected for technical realization. The resulting system was used for numerous alignment operations for the coupling of two graded-index fibres. The alignment time is below 1 s and the coupling efficiency compared with manual coupling alignment efficiency (= 100%) is above 99%, corresponding to an additional loss of <0.05 dB.  相似文献

The advantages to be gained from the use of optical processors and interconnects for hybrid electronic/optical signal processing networks are first presented. The physics of nonlinear diode laser amplifiers is then examined in the context of optical thresholding and logic. Specific examples of the use of these devices in simple optical processors and interconnects are proposed. 全光二极管是集成光子回路上最基本的光子器件,如何有效增强全光二极管的单向透射性,提高消光比一直是学者们研究的重点.当前,利用表面等离极化激元(surface plasmon polaritons,SPPs)和复合衍射衰逝波(composite diffracted evanescent wave,CDEW)的亚波长金属微纳结构构建全光二极管器件还鲜有研究.因此,开发出一种可调制的全光二极管,对未来制备复杂的光子回路具有重要意义.本文提出了一种基于SPPs-CDEW混合模式设计全光二极管的方法和结构,该结构结合纳米缝中的类法布里-珀罗共振效应,利用结构参数对SPPs进行调控,实现了光束单向透过的功能.首先,利用理论推导和有限元算法分析了单缝-对称双凹槽纳米结构的透射增强现象,提出了透射增强和削弱的物理机理.其次,计算出规约化透射率随单狭缝和凹槽对之间距离变化的远场透射谱,给出的理论和数值计算结果符合得很好.最后,通过此透射谱精确确定凹槽的位置和数量,得出上表面对称分布五对增强透射凹槽、下表面六对抑制透射凹槽的最优全光二极管结构,有效增强了全光二极管的单向透射性,提高了消光比,最大消光比可以达到38.3 dB,即正向透射率是反向透射率的6761倍,比已有文献提高了14.6 dB,并在850 nm左右有70 nm宽的工作波长带宽(20 dB).本文提出的光二极管结构简单,宽带宽工作,易于集成,耦合效率高,研究结果对光学信号传输、集成光回路、超分辨率光刻等相关领域具有潜在的应用价值.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate an In P-based hybrid integration of a single-mode DFB laser emitting at around 1310 nm and a tunneling diode. The evident negative differential resistance regions are obtained in both electrical and optical output characteristics. The electrical and optical bistabilities controlled by the voltage through the tunneling diode are also measured. When the voltage changes between 1.46 V and 1.66 V, a 200-mV-wide hysteresis loop and an optical power ON/OFF ratio of 17 dB are obtained. A side-mode suppression ratio of the integrated device in the ON state is up to 43 dB. The tunneling diode can switch on/off the laser within a very small voltage range compared with that directly controlled by a voltage source.  相似文献

We describe a novel high-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (HF-EPR) spectrometer design based on a horizontal-bore superconducting solenoid. Designs for components of a quasioptical HF-EPR spectrometer operating with a horizontal-bore 7.85 T solenoid are discussed. A rigid concentric tube construction permits precise placement and control of the optical elements in the magnet bore. A mechanically coupled, sliding optical table bearing the quasioptical bridge is another essential feature of the design. The horizontal configuration greatly improves optical alignment as well as physical access to the sample area compared to existing vertical-bore instruments. As a result, the minimum spin concentration that is detectable with an inexpensive room-temperature diode is comparable to the lowest values reported for aqueous samples in vertical-bore magnets using high-sensitivity detectors.  相似文献

用纳秒强激光脉冲制备了纳米硅和硅表面的硅镱键合结构,检测了纳米硅表面硅镱键合的发光特性,并对这种结构相应的光致发光(PL)和电致发光(EL)的动力学机理进行了研究。观察到纳米硅表面硅镱键合在700nm附近尖锐的强发光峰,结合第一性原理计算认为是硅镱键合在弯曲纳米硅表面的局域态发光;利用纳秒脉冲激光沉积技术(PLD)制备多晶硅薄膜,发现由硅镱界面的失配形成表面的突触,其上的硅镱键合产生带隙中的电子局域态,该局域态发光分布在1250~1650nm波长范围,有增强的EL发光;用PLD方法制备硅镱多层膜量子级联结构,测量到光通信窗口的多个发光峰,并观察到随膜层数增加且发光峰增多。  相似文献

We present the noise suppression of an amplified diode laser by using an optical filter and resonant optical feedback. The intensity noise of the amplified diode laser has been significantly decreased by using the optical filter cavity. It was further suppressed and reached the shot noise limit at 15 MHz by introducing resonant optical feedback from the transmission of the filter cavity. The filter cavity transmits 53% of injection power, and the output power of the filter cavity is more than 200 mW. The observed frequency fluctuations were less than 100 kHz in one minute. This level of noise suppression and output power may allow diode lasers to be utilized in many quantum-optics experiments. PACS 42.55-f; 42.55-Px; 42.50.-p  相似文献

采用10GHZ基准时钟光和10Gbit/s的数据脉冲信号光注入到锁模激光二极管,降低了周期抖动,当注入功率为-5dBm,在基准时钟光波长等于锁模激光二极管的光波长时,获得的最小抖动为0.25ps,采用给锁模激光二极管,在注入功率为+27dBm时,其Q值达3000。  相似文献
