Electromagnetic equilibrium fluctuations in finite cavities filled with a dissipative medium (dielectric function ()=+i) and bounded by walls of infinite conductivity are considered. Expanding the fields in terms of a complete and orthonormal set of functions and solving the Maxwell equations the response of the EM field to external forces (polarization and magnetization) is obtained. With the aid of the fluctuation dissipation theorem and the linear response functions the 2nd order correlation tensors of the EM field are derived.For rectangular cavities explicit considerations are made. In the case of transparent media (=0) the spectral energy density of the EM radiation is calculated.  相似文献

Conductance and shot noise of an open cavity with diffusive boundary scattering are calculated within the Boltzmann-Langevin approach. In particular, conductance contains a nonuniversal geometric contribution, originating from the presence of open contacts. Subsequently, universal expressions for multiterminal conductance and noise, valid for all chaotic cavities, are obtained classically, based on the fact that the distribution function in the cavity depends only on energy, and using the principle of minimal correlations.  相似文献

Acoustic radiation from a source located inside layered cavities is studied using the transfer matrix method. It is shown that the radiation can be either enhanced or inhibited, depending on the characteristics and the material composition of the cavities. The analysis predicts well-defined spectral peaks and nodes in some cavities. It is found that significant enhancement and inhibition are possible by varying acoustic parameters. The results also show that the strength of the radiating source can be significantly modified due to the presence of layered structures. The link to the similar phenomena in the optical cavities is discussed.  相似文献

We study the spontaneous dissociation of diatomic molecules produced in cold atomic gases via magnetically tunable Feshbach resonances. We provide a universal formula for the lifetime of these molecules that relates their decay to the scattering length and the loss rate constant for inelastic spin relaxation. Our universal treatment as well as our exact coupled channels calculations for 85Rb dimers predict a suppression of the decay over several orders of magnitude when the scattering length is increased. Our predictions are in good agreement with recent measurements of the lifetime of 85Rb(2).  相似文献

By using the quasi-normal-mode (QNM) formalism in a second quantization scheme, the problem of the counter-propagation of electromagnetic fields inside optical cavities is studied. The links between QNM operators and canonical destruction and creation operators describing the external free field, as well as the field correlation functions, are found and discussed. An application of the theory is performed for open cavities whose refractive index satisfies symmetric properties.  相似文献

From the measurement of a reflection spectrum of an open microwave cavity, the poles of the scattering matrix in the complex plane have been determined. The resonances have been extracted by means of the harmonic inversion method. By this, it became possible to resolve the resonances in a regime where the linewidths exceed the mean level spacing up to a factor of 10, a value inaccessible in experiments up to now. The obtained experimental distributions of linewidths were found to be in perfect agreement with predictions from random matrix theory when wall absorption and fluctuations caused by couplings to additional channels are considered.  相似文献

The spontaneous dissociation of 85Rb dimers in the highest lying vibrational level has been observed in the vicinity of the Feshbach resonance that was used to produce them. The molecular lifetime shows a strong dependence on magnetic field, varying by 3 orders of magnitude between 155.5 G and 162.2 G. Our measurements are in good agreement with theoretical predictions in which molecular dissociation is driven by inelastic spin relaxation. Molecule lifetimes of tens of milliseconds can be achieved within approximately a 1 G wide region directly above the Feshbach resonance.  相似文献

It is shown that a charged Brownian nanoparticle (or an electron) similar to a two-level atom can generate spontaneous and induced radiation upon switching on an external field. The diffusion mechanism of charging nanoparticles is examined. The radiation process is a macroscopic quantum phenomenon, which can be used in synthetic biology, medicine, and other fields of science and engineering.  相似文献

The probability of the spontaneous emission of electromagnetic radiation of an arbitrary multipolarity in an infinite homogeneous isotropic nonabsorbent condensed medium with constant permittivity and permeability is determined using the perturbation theory for quantum electrodynamics. An elementary procedure for calculating quantum mechanically the time-dependent rotation-vibration wave function for a collisionless model of a polyatomic molecule in a monochromatic radiation field is described and applied to some very simple cases. It is concluded that molecules can in principle be strongly and selectively excited at radiation intensities which are too low to produce appreciable excitation in classical calculations. The excitation process is a coherent multi-photon Rabi precession between two discrete levels followed by a transition to a quasi-continuum of vibration-rotation states.  相似文献

We analyze the nonlinear dynamics of a high-finesse optical cavity in which one mirror is mounted on a flexible mechanical element. We find that this system is governed by an array of dynamical attractors, which arise from phase locking between the mechanical oscillations of the mirror and the ringing of the light intensity in the cavity. We develop an analytical theory to map out the diagram of attractors in parameter space, derive the slow amplitude dynamics of the system, including thermal fluctuations, and suggest a scheme for exploiting the dynamical multistability in the measurement of small displacements.  相似文献

The fundamental thermal radiation laws are valid only if the dimensions of the cavity are everywhere large compared to the wavelengths. Blackbody size and shape effects are reviewed together with the statistical physics of other finite noninteracting systems based on the distribution of eigenfrequencies for the wave equation in a finite domain.
