In the meantime a sequence of events in Southeast Asia — the Chinese invasion, the exodus of refugees, the war in Cambodia — is inevitably having an impact on Vietnam’s pace of economic recovery from the War and level of technological development. We consider a mathematical program with complementarity constraints (MPCC). Our purpose is to develop methods that enable
us to compute a solution or a point with some kind of stationarity to MPCC by solving a finite number of nonlinear programs.
We apply an active set identification technique to a smoothing continuation method (Ref. 1) and propose a hybrid algorithm
for solving MPCC. We develop also two modifications: one makes use of an index addition strategy; the other adopts an index
subtraction strategy. We show that, under reasonable assumptions, all the proposed algorithms possess a finite termination

Real optimization problems often involve not one, but multiple objectives, usually in conflict. In single-objective optimization
there exists a global optimum, while in the multi-objective case no optimal solution is clearly defined but rather a set of
solutions, called the Pareto-optimal front. Thus, the goal of multi-objective strategies is to generate a set of non-dominated
solutions as an approximation to this front. However, the majority of problems of this kind cannot be solved exactly because
they have very large and highly complex search spaces. In recent years, meta-heuristics have become important tools for solving
multi-objective problems encountered in industry as well as in the theoretical field. This paper presents a novel approach
based on hybridizing Simulated Annealing and Tabu Search. Experiments on the Graph Partitioning Problem show that this new
method is a better tool for approximating the efficient set than other strategies also based on these meta-heuristics. 相似文献

The purpose of this article is to contribute to the dialogue about the notion of advanced mathematical thinking by offering an alternative characterization for this idea, namely advancing mathematical activity. We use the term advancing (versus advanced) because we emphasize the progression and evolution of students' reasoning in relation to their previous activity. We also use the term activity, rather than thinking. This shift in language reflects our characterization of progression in mathematical thinking as acts of participation in a variety of different socially or culturally situated mathematical practices. For these practices, we emphasize the changing nature of students' mathematical activity and frame the process of progression in terms of multiple layers of horizontal and vertical mathematizing. 相似文献

The study reported in this article deals with the observed actions of prospective Swedish mathematics teachers as they were
working with a modeling situation. These prospective teachers were preparing to teach in Grades 4 to9 or in the gymnasium
(Grades 10 to 12) and were students in a course in mathematical modeling. The larger study of which this study was a part
focused on these students' understanding of modeling and how they related mathematical models to the real world. This article
also attempts to illustrate how mathematics is intertwined with many other subjects, in this case medicine.

This paper deals with a mathematical model in cell dynamics population originally proposed by M. Rotenberg (1983, J. Theoret. Biol.103, 181-199). Individual cells are distinguished by their degree of maturity and maturation velocity. Here, all biological rules are considered. We bring new techniques to the discussion of this model. We show that the model is well posed in the sense of the theory of semigroups, we study the positivity and irreducibility of the generated semigroups, and we calculate its essential type. The purpose of this paper is to develop a hybrid and practical man-machine interactive approach to solving linear programmes involving more than one objective function. The approach incorporates all the strengths and avoids the weaknesses of some existing methods. It uses the solution of a two-person zero-sum game with mixed strategies to generate efficient solutions, and then proceeds to modify the feasible region using responses from the decision-maker. The cycle is repeated until a satisfactory solution is found. An example from the literature is solved using the proposed method in order to demonstrate its applicability. A microcomputer implementation of the method is described, with illustrations from actual screen displays. A comparison of the proposed method with 14 other existing methods is also presented. 相似文献

In this design experiment, a learning environment for teaching and learning how to model and solve mathematical application problems was developed and tested in 4 classes of 5th graders. Pupils were taught a series of heuristics embedded in an overall metacognitive strategy for solving mathematical application problems. Meanwhile, pupils of 7 control classes followed regular mathematics classes. The implementation and effectiveness of the experimental learning environment were tested in a study with a pretest-posttest-retention test design with an experimental and a control group. The results indicate that the intervention had a positive effect on different aspects of pupils' mathematical modeling and problem-solving abilities. 相似文献
