Stimulated electronic Raman scattering in Ba vapour is used to efficiently convert the output of a XeCl excimer laser (308 nm) to the blue region (475 nm). Photon conversion efficiencies of up to 20% and output energies in the blue greater than 5 mJ are obtained. The multi-line structure of the XeCl laser emission is reproduced in the generated Stokes spectrum. 相似文献

We investigate shock waves generated by excimer laser ablation of sheet polyimide confined in water. The velocities of the ablation-induced pressure waves in the water are determined by an optical probe system. We measure supersonic velocities up to a few hundred microns away from the irradiated surface, indicating the formation of shock waves. We use these velocities to calculate the corresponding pressures. They are already in the kbar range at fluences comparable to the threshold of ablation. The shock pressure varies as the square root of the incident laser fluence, a behavior that is explained by the rapid heating of the confined gaseous products of ablation.The initially planar shock waves propagate, become spherical, and decay within a few hundred microns in the surrounding water to acoustic waves. During spherical expansion the shock pressure drops as the inverse of the square of the propagation distance.The shock waves generated may be relevant in explaining photoacoustic damage observed in biological tissue after excimer-ablation at corresponding irradiances. They may also be important in material processing applications of excimer laser ablation of polymers as they can lead to plastic deformation. 相似文献

We have thus optimized the conditions for SRS conversion of XeCl-laser emission in lead vapor, methane, and hydrogen. The
greatest influence on the conversion efficiency is exerted for an SRS cell with lead by the divergence of the pump radiation,
the focusing geometry, and the type of buffer gas. The maximum efficiency with respect to absorbed UV energy was ∼57% when
xenon gas was used as the buffer, corresponding to 85% of the photon efficiency. The converted radiation could be continuously
tuned in the 457.6–459.3 nm band.
Addition of a light gas such as helium or hydrogen to methane raised the efficiency of conversion into Stokes components in

Development is reported of a UV-preionized electric-discharge XeCI laser with emission energy 0.8 J ( = 308 nm). The energy and temporal characteristics of the laser are investigated, and the optimum gas-mixture composition for He as the buffer gas is determined. Ablation of polyetheretherketone (PEEK), a high temperature thermoplastic, by XeCl laser radiation occurs at fluences in excess of 0.07±0.01 J cm–2. The volatile products of ablation are CO and C2H2 with smaller quantities of CH4, C4H2, C6H6 and other C3 and C4 hydrocarbons. At fluences close to the threshold ablation produces involatile material of relatively high molecular weight but at high fluences extensive disruption of the PEEK structure occurs with conversion of all of the oxygen in the polymer to carbon monoxide. 相似文献

We present experimental and modelling results of the first self-injected excimer laser. The intracavity losses of a XeCl oscillator are properly modulated by a Pockels cell allowing generation, amplification and extraction of short laser pulses with selectable duration in the range of 1–12 ns, tailored temporal profile and peak power increment up to a factor of three. Longer output laser pulses, up to 100 ns, can be obtained by slicing the intracavity laser radiation without peak power increment. Laser output peak powers in excess of 2 MW have been obtained, with remarkable reproducibility characteristics.ENEA fellow 相似文献

Pulsed oscillation from XeCl at λ = 3080 Å has been obtained by exciting a mixture of He:Xe:BCl3 at pressures of 1 to 7 atm with a transverse discharge. The laser efficiency relative to the discharge absorbed energy exceeds 1%. The role of dissociation recombination in the processes of excitation of XeCl1 is discussed. 相似文献

Emission at fifty discrete wavelengths is observed when Ba I is excited by two laser beams, a dye laser tuned to the λ 7911 Å intercombination line, 6s21S0-6s6p 3P1 and a ruby laser. The wavelengths range from 2312 Å to 8027 Å. Most of the emission lines can be attributed to four-wave mixing processes in barium. 相似文献

An X-ray preionized spiker-sustainer XeCl-excimer laser operating at high repetition frequency (1000 Hz) and 220 W of average laser power is demonstrated. The pulse energy and the pulse duration (160 ns) are virtually independent of the repetition frequency. Comparison with aC-L-C circuit shows superior properties of spiker-sustainer excitation for high-frequency operation. Furthermore, a variation of the overshoot mode is proposed. 相似文献

XeCl laser ablation of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) in air and in vacuum (1.3×10–4 Pa) is studied by means of etch depth measurements, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of ablated surfaces. The possibility of increasing the contrast in the problem of the generation of petawatt radiation when the energy is released by a femtosecond laser pulse in the presence of a prepulse that passes through the medium of an electron-beam-excited wide-aperture amplifier prior to the main pulse is considered.
