This paper investigates the utility of introducing randomization as a means of boosting the performance of search heuristics. We introduce a particular approach to randomization, called Value-biased stochastic sampling (VBSS), which emphasizes the use of heuristic value in determining stochastic bias. We offer an empirical study of the performance of value-biased and rank-biased approaches to randomizing search heuristics. We also consider the use of these stochastic sampling techniques in conjunction with local hill-climbing. Finally, we contrast the performance of stochastic sampling search with more systematic search procedures as a means of amplifying the performance of search heuristics.  相似文献

A new artificial neural network solution approach is proposed to solve combinatorial optimization problems. The artificial neural network is called the Tabu Machine because it has the same structure as the Boltzmann Machine does but uses tabu search to govern its state transition mechanism. Similar to the Boltzmann Machine, the Tabu Machine consists of a set of binary state nodes connected with bidirectional arcs. Ruled by the transition mechanism, the nodes adjust their states in order to search for a global minimum energy state. Two combinatorial optimization problems, the maximum cut problem and the independent set problem, are used as examples to conduct a computational experiment. Without using overly sophisticated tabu search techniques, the Tabu Machine outperforms the Boltzmann Machine in terms of both solution quality and computation time.  相似文献

Local search and local search-based metaheuristics are currently the only available methods for obtaining good solutions to large vehicle routing and scheduling problems. In this paper we provide a review of both classical and modern local search neighborhoods for this class of problems. The intention of this paper is not only to give an overview but to classify and analyze the structure of different neighborhoods. The analysis is based on a formal representation of VRSP solutions given by a unifying giant-tour model. We describe neighborhoods implicitly by a set of transformations called moves and show how moves can be decomposed further into partial moves. The search method has to compose these partial moves into a complete move in an efficient way. The goal is to find a local best neighbor and to reach a local optimum as quickly as possible. This can be achieved by search methods, which do not scan all neighbor solutions explicitly. Our analysis shows how the properties of the partial moves and the constraints of the VRSP influences the choice of an appropriate search technique.  相似文献

The problem considered is the full-load pickup and delivery problem with time windows (PDPTW), and heterogeneous products and vehicles, where the assignment of pickup points to requests is not predetermined. Elements associated with tabu search, such as diversification by reversion to junctions and the use of soft aspiration criteria, are embedded into our tabu search implementation. This metaheuristic is evaluated using random instances and selected data from a construction company in the U.K. The obtained results are compared against lower bounds from LP relaxation and also solutions from an existing multi-level heuristic.  相似文献

The K-Constraint Multiple Knapsack Problem (K-MKP) is a generalization of the multiple knapsack problem, which is one of the representative combinatorial optimization problems known to be NP-hard. In K-MKP, each item has K types of weights and each knapsack has K types of capacity. In this paper, we propose several very large-scale neighborhood search (VLSN) algorithms to solve K-MKP. One of the VLSN algorithms incorporates a novel approach that consists of randomly perturbing the current solution in order to efficiently produce a set of simultaneous non-profitable moves. These moves would allow several items to be transferred from their current knapsacks and assigned to new knapsacks, which makes room for new items to be inserted through multi-exchange movements and allows for improved solutions. Computational results presented show that the method is effective, and provides better solutions compared to exact algorithms run for the same amount of time. A Tabu Search Algorithm for the Quadratic Assignment Problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Tabu search approach based algorithms are among the widest applied to various combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we propose a new version of the tabu search algorithm for the well-known problem, the quadratic assignment problem (QAP). One of the most important features of our tabu search implementation is an efficient use of mutations applied to the best solutions found so far. We tested this approach on a number of instances from the library of the QAP instances—QAPLIB. The results obtained from the experiments show that the proposed algorithm belongs to the most efficient heuristics for the QAP. The high efficiency of this algorithm is also demonstrated by the fact that the new best known solutions were found for several QAP instances.  相似文献

In this paper, the Evolutionary Simulated Annealing (ESA) algorithm, its distributed implementation (dESA) and its application to two combinatorial problems are presented. ESA consists of a population, a simulated annealing operator, instead of the more usual reproduction operators used in evolutionary algorithms, and a selection operator. The implementation is based on a multi island (agent) system running on the Distributed Resource Machine (DRM), which is a novel, scalable, distributed virtual machine based on Java technology. As WAN/LAN systems are the most common multi-machine systems, dESA implementation is based on them rather than any other parallel machine. The problems tackled are well-known combinatorial optimisation problems, namely, the classical job-shop scheduling problem and the uncapacitated facility location problem. They are difficult benchmarks, widely used to measure the efficiency of metaheuristics with respect to both the quality of the solutions and the central processing unit (CPU) time spent. Both applications show that dESA solves problems finding either the optimum or a very near optimum solution within a reasonable time outperforming the recent reported approaches for each one allowing the faster solution of existing problems and the solution of larger problems.  相似文献

禁忌搜索算法是一种元启发式的全局优化算法,是局部搜索算法的一种推广,已被成功地应用于许多组合优化问题中。本文针对有界闭区域上的连续函数全局优化问题,提出了一种改进的禁忌搜索算法,并进行了理论分析和数值实验。数值实验表明,对于连续函数全局优化问题的求解该算法是可行有效的,并且结构简单,迭代次数较少,是一种较好的全局启发式优化算法。  相似文献

The problem of estimating the global optimal values of intractable combinatorial optimization problems is of interest to researchers developing and evaluating heuristics for these problems. In this paper we present a method for combining statistical optimum prediction techniques with local search methods such as simulated annealing and tabu search and illustrate the approach on a single machine scheduling problem. Computational experiments show that the approach yields useful estimates of optimal values with very reasonable computational effort.  相似文献

In this paper, a greedy heuristic and two local search algorithms, 1-opt local search and k-opt local search, are proposed for the unconstrained binary quadratic programming problem (BQP). These heuristics are well suited for the incorporation into meta-heuristics such as evolutionary algorithms. Their performance is compared for 115 problem instances. All methods are capable of producing high quality solutions in short time. In particular, the greedy heuristic is able to find near optimum solutions a few percent below the best-known solutions, and the local search procedures are sufficient to find the best-known solutions of all problem instances with n 100. The k-opt local searches even find the best-known solutions for all problems of size n 250 and for 11 out of 15 instances of size n = 500 in all runs. For larger problems (n = 500, 1000, 2500), the heuristics appear to be capable of finding near optimum solutions quickly. Therefore, the proposed heuristics—especially the k-opt local search—offer a great potential for the incorporation in more sophisticated meta-heuristics.  相似文献

In this paper, several new developments are suggested in order to increase the efficiency of grid search procedures used within vertex enumeration solution algorithms based on both the classical cobweb technique (a two constraint approach) and a single constraint approach. The gains in efficiency (and robustness) are demonstrated by incorporating the developments into a grid search procedure (which is a part of a heuristic solution algorithm used to obtain solutions to a non-linear bi-level multi-period model of an aluminium smelter) and applying it to a test suite of problems. The classical cobweb technique is shown to have some serious problems when used in this application but with step size improvements suggested in the paper, is shown to be very competitive. The developments are also incorporated into a single constraint based approach which does not suffer from the cobweb specific difficulties. The improvements considered include the use of a step mechanism initially with a step size calculated {a priori} and then finally with a tailored (best) one. The latter development when applied to the cobweb approach, requires the approximation of the two constraints (and hence the intersection of their graphs) using second degree polynomials.  相似文献

A cyclic scheduling problem with applications to transport efficiency is considered. Given a set of regular polygons, whose vertices represent regularly occurring events and are lying on a common circle line, the objective is to maximize the distance between the closest vertices of different polygons on the circle line. Lower and upper bounds for the optimal solution of this NP-hard scheduling problem are presented. They are used to improve the quality of a procedure which is applied to solve this problem heuristically. It consists of a greedy starting algorithm and a Tabu Search algorithm. The numerical results show the efficiency of the procedure proposed.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply a simulated annealing approach to two bicriteria scheduling problems on a single machine. The first problem is the strongly NP-hard problem of minimizing total flowtime and maximum earliness. The second one is the NP-hard problem of minimizing total flowtime and number of tardy jobs. We experiment on different neighbourhood structures as well as other parameters of the simulated annealing approach to improve its performance. Our computational experiments show that the developed approach yields solutions that are very close to lower bounds and hence very close to the optimal solutions of their corresponding problems for the minimization of total flowtime and maximum earliness. For the minimization of total flowtime and number tardy, our experiments show that the simulated annealing approach yields results that are superior to randomly generated schedules.  相似文献

Using a simple multiprocessor scheduling problem as a vehicle, we explore the behavior of tabu search algorithms using different tabu, local search and list management strategies. We found that random blocking of the tail of the tabu list always improved performance; but that the use of frequency-based penalties to discourage frequently selected moves did not. Hash coding without conflict resolution was an effective way to represent solutions on the tabu list. We also found that the most effective length of the tabu list depended on features of the algorithm being used, but not on the size and complexity of the problem being solved. The best combination of features included random blocking of the tabu list, tasks as tabus and a greedy local search. An algorithm using these features was found to outperform a recently published algorithm solving a similar problem.  相似文献

In recent years, there have been many studies in which tailored heuristics and meta-heuristics have been applied to specific optimisation problems. These codes can be extremely efficient, but may also lack generality. In contrast, this research focuses on building a general-purpose combinatorial optimisation problem solver using a variety of meta-heuristic algorithms including Simulated Annealing and Tabu Search. The system is novel because it uses a modelling environment in which the solution is stored in dense dynamic list structures, unlike a more conventional sparse vector notation. Because of this, it incorporates a number of neighbourhood search operators that are normally only found in tailored codes and it performs well on a range of problems. The general nature of the system allows a model developer to rapidly prototype different problems. The new solver is applied across a range of traditional combinatorial optimisation problems. The results indicate that the system achieves good performance in terms of solution quality and runtime.  相似文献

We discuss a filter-based pattern search method for unconstrained optimization in this paper. For the purpose to broaden the search range we use both filter technique and frames, which are fragments of grids, to provide a new criterion of iterate acceptance. The convergence can be ensured under some conditions. The numerical result shows that this method is practical and efficient.  相似文献

This paper deals with the one-machine dynamic total completion time scheduling problem. This problem is known to be NP-hard in the strong sense. A polynomial time heuristic algorithm is proposed which applies the recently introduced Recovering Beam Search (RBS) approach. The algorithm is based on a beam search procedure with unitary beam width and includes a recovering subroutine that allows to overcome wrong decisions taken at higher levels of the beam search tree. It is shown that the total number of considered nodes is bounded by n where n is the jobsize. The proposed algorithm is able to solve in very short CPU time problems with up to 500 jobs outperforming the best state of the art heuristics.  相似文献
