An integrated mode converter consisting of two diffractive optical elements (DOEs) and a Silicon slab is presented for low-loss coupling between a semiconductor laser diode (LD) and a single-mode fiber (SMF). The phase structures of the DOEs are designed using iterative phase retrieval algorithm. We introduce a new far-field amplitude constraint into the iteration to provide very high mode conversion quality. Compared with previously published mode converters, the scheme is more universal because it’s applicable for any semiconductor LD. In simulation, coupling losses lower than 0.02 dB are predicted for all the discussed LDs with aspect ratios of the elliptical fields from 1 to 9. The requirements on axial displacement and rotation angle have been removed. The tolerance for 1-dB loss increment for lateral misalignment is 0.9 μm. And the coupling loss is insensitive to tilt angle.  相似文献

为使测量加速度计的传感器小型化、不受电磁干扰 ,根据GRIN透镜在 1 / 4波节处具有入射光线与出射光线成中心对称的特性[1 ] ,首次提出并研制了采用GRIN透镜的微型光纤加速度计。闭环负反馈电路设计技术被应用于该加速度计中 ,使之成为一个具有调宽脉冲再平衡性能的新颖加速度测量系统。通过对该系统进行数字仿真和精度定量分析 ,结果表明 ,该光纤加速度计具有测量线性范围宽、精度高的特点 ,可广泛应用于惯性测控系统中  相似文献

A method for calculating the refractive index of GRIN optical fiber from its transverse interference pattern is presented.In this method the transverse interference fringe pattern through an optical fiber using a sheet of light is applied to get the refractive index profile of it. The optical fiber is not immersed in a matching liquid as used in different techniques [Barakat N, El-Hennawi HA, El-Zaiat SY, Hassan R. Pure Appl Opt 1996;5:27].In this method a sheet of He–Ne laser light is allowed to illuminate the fiber. The light sheet is divided into two parts, the first is refracted through the fiber while the second is used as a reference beam. Interference pattern will be obtained between these two rays displaying the refractive index variation along the fiber radius.The fringe shift of such interference pattern has been measured and used to calculate the deflection angle of light refracted by the fiber and the cladding. An equation is derived to calculate the refractive index profile difference ratio δn at different positions across the fiber cross section in terms of the corresponding deflection angle and is verified experimentally.The optical path difference between these two rays (refracted and reference beam divided by the fiber) has been derived and the fringe shift obtained has been used to calculate the refractive index profile of the fiber.Introducing a ground glass screen on the passage of the two light beams (refracted and reference beam divided by the fiber), two superimposed identical speckle patterns are formed leading to the formation of a third speckle pattern modulated by a grid structure displaying the optical thickness of the fiber.  相似文献

We, for the first time, report an experimental demonstration of multi-parameter fiber sensor system using the concentric core optical fiber, which can simultaneously determine the stress, the position of stress and the cracks. The intermodal interference of the LP01 and LP11 modes and determination of the equalization wavelength in the liquid-core optical fiber is presented. Theoretically was described the weakly guiding optical fiber with the constant core radius, where equalization wavelength is a function of the refractive indices of core and cladding. The dependence of equalization wavelength on refractive indices is employed for measurement of temperature. Temperature sensitivity using intermodal interference of modes LP01 and LP11 was documented in the liquid-core optical fiber consisted of fused silica as cladding and medicinal oil as a core. In the investigated temperature range the intermodal interference allows the temperature measurement with resolution of about 0.02 °C.  相似文献

We present intermodal interference of modes LP0j in silica optical fiber with liquid core. An appropriate detection method is proposed for observation of intermodal interference of LP0j modes. Measured spectral dependencies reveal a clear local minimum, where position is a function of optical fiber parameters. We focused on investigation of dependence of that minimum position on length of optical fiber with liquid core. From measured spectral dependencies the evident blue shift of local minimum is observed as length of optical fiber increases. Character of spectral characteristics correspond with intermodal interference of modes LP0j and is demonstrated by numerical calculations. Presented intermodal interference in combination with liquid-filled core of optical fiber can be attractive for sensing applications.  相似文献

A method for optical formation and controllable manipulation of particle and cell patterns using a tapered optical fiber is demonstrated. With a laser beam at 980‐nm wavelength launched into the fiber, different sized silica particles were formed into particle patterns (both one‐dimensional chains and two‐dimensional arrays) with different particle numbers by optical binding. The formed particle patterns can be controllably manipulated in three dimensions. Using yeast cells as an example, it was demonstrated that the method is applicable for the formation of biological cell patterns, without damage to the yeast cell viability. This method provides a new facile way for biophotonic and biological researches with particles and cells in a highly organized manner.  相似文献

This paper presents a technique for collimating a diverging beam from a laser diode using graded-index optical fiber. The optical set-up is relatively simple and easy to operate. The results show that laser beam of large divergent angle in the range of 10–35° can be reduced to a fully collimated beam with a divergent angle of less than 0.05°. The optical bistability and multistability in an Er3+-doped ZrF4-BaF2-LaF3-AlF3-NaF optical fiber inside a ring cavity are investigated. The underlying mechanism shows some new characteristics that other schemes do not have. 提出一种在线型光纤法布里-珀罗折射率传感器。传感器由空芯光子晶体光纤两端熔接单模光纤而成。理论分析并实验验证了其折射率传感特性。结果表明,干涉条纹对比度随溶液折射率的增加而减小,与理论模拟一致。提出利用标准差解调方法对干涉谱进行分析,标准差解调方法具有更好的线性度和准确性,可靠性更高,便于编程实现自动化、快速的数据分析和溶液折射率的实时检测。  相似文献

Size‐based particle sorting using a subwavelength optical fiber was demonstrated with 600‐nm and 1‐μm sizes of polystyrene particles. Optical forces acting on the particles were calculated based on three‐dimensional finite‐difference time‐domain simulations at wavelengths of 808, 1047, and 1310 nm propagating in a subwavelength optical fiber with diameter of 800 nm. Calculations indicate that by launching two counterpropagating laser beams at different wavelengths into the fiber, the directions of the resultant optical scattering forces acting on the two particle sizes can be opposite along the fiber, which leads to a countertransport of the particles. To verify the theoretical prediction, experiments were performed using the 800‐nm fiber to sort the two particle sizes. The results show that with two counterpropagating beams at 808 and 1310 nm, a continuous particle sorting was achieved. Measured particle velocities were in agreement with the theoretical calculations.  相似文献

A novel multiwavelength scheme has been demonstrated using a sampled fiber grating in semiconductor-fiber ring laser. By using semiconductor optical amplifier as an inhomogeneously broadened gain medium, three wavelength channels of 10 GHz are simultaneously generated. The number of the lasing channels can be changed through the polarization state adjustment in the cavity.  相似文献

An analytic model for first Stokes–Raman generation in optical fiber is used to evaluate the relative importance of quantum initiation noise and amplified classical pump noise in recent experiments on noise shaping. The model accounts for pump depletion and for fluctuations arising from the spontaneous generation of the first Stokes pulse, but not for scattering into higher-order Stokes pulses. The model reproduces the qualitative features of the measured first Stokes pulse energy statistics using realistic parameter values.  相似文献

We demonstrate an acousto-optic mode converter based on a tapered optical fiber to efficiently generate orbital angular momentum states of light. In our scheme an acoustic wave is deployed to the waist of tapered optical fiber where two degenerate HE21 modes leading to +1 and −1 orbital angular momentum eigen-modes are resonantly excited. The excitation of TM01 and TE01 modes is suppressed by enlarging the intermodal index difference between near-degenerate spatial modes. Numerical calculation for optimization of the taper diameter is provided. The experimental characterization of generated states is performed by analyzing the output far-field pattern and the spatial interference fringes with a uniform reference beam.  相似文献
