Selective exposure to visible light is used to permanently trim the resonant wavelengths of coupled ring-resonator filters and delay-lines realized on a chalcogenide As2S3 platform. Post-fabrication manipulation of the circuit parameters has proved an effective tool to compensate for technological tolerances, targeting demanding specifications in photonic integrated circuits with no need for always-on power-hungry actuators. The same approach opens a way to realize photonic integrated circuits that can be reconfigured after fabrication to fulfill specific applications.  相似文献

A high-purity predominantly single crystalline zirconium was subjected to controlled focused ion beam (FIB) damage. Damage estimates were obtained from electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and nano-indentation measurements on exactly the same area/orientation. The damage kinetics, between different crystallographic orientations, differed by one order of magnitude and a clear hierarchy of orientation sensitive ion damage emerged. Use of a simple geometric approach, linear density of atoms and corresponding scattering cross-sections to impinging gallium ions, could differentiate between extreme damage kinetics; but failed when such differences were relatively minor. Numerically intensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, on the other hand, were more effective. However, MD simulations or direct EBSD observations failed to justify anisotropic irradiation hardening (AIH): 3–8 times more hardening for near basal. Though explanation for AIH is indirect, evidence and rationalization for orientation-sensitive radiation damage appears clear and statistically reproducible.  相似文献

An optoelectronic nonlinear delay oscillator seeded by a pulsed laser source is used to experimentally demonstrate a new transition scenario for the general class of delay differential dynamics, from continuous to discrete time behavior. This transition scenario differs from the singular limit map, or adiabatic approximation model that is usually considered. The transition from the map to the flow is observed when increasing the pulse repetition rate. The mechanism of this transition opens the way to new interpretations of the general properties of delay differential dynamics, which are universal features of many other scientific domains. We anticipate that the nonlinear delay oscillator architecture presented here will have significant applications in chaotic communication systems.  相似文献

We report measurements on the synchronization properties of organ pipes. First, we investigate influence of an external acoustical signal from a loudspeaker on the sound of an organ pipe. Second, the mutual influence of two pipes with different pitch is analyzed. In analogy to the externally driven, or mutually coupled self-sustained oscillators, one observes a frequency locking, which can be explained by synchronization theory. Further, we measure the dependence of the frequency of the signals emitted by two mutually detuned pipes with varying distance between the pipes. The spectrum shows a broad "hump" structure, not found for coupled oscillators. This indicates a complex coupling of the two organ pipes leading to nonlinear beat phenomena.  相似文献

In this paper we have analyzed the time series obtained from an experimental realization of an inductorless version of Chua’s circuit. We have also compared the experimental results with the results emerging by analysis of the time series obtained by numerical simulations of the respective model equations. Lyapunov exponent spectra, the Kaplan-Yorke dimension and phase-space diagrams were used to show the similarities between theoretical and experimental results. We were able to identify the effects of the operational amplifier simulated inductor internal resistance on the Chua’s circuit dynamics. Decreasing internal resistance for decreasing current through the circuit was responsible for the observed bifurcation route.  相似文献

Hydrogen-nitrous oxide mixtures have been studied for decades. In addition to their fundamental interest, they might play an important role in semi-conductor industry safety. Indeed, in silane-nitrous oxide mixtures, widely used in this industry, the silane molecule readily decomposes into molecular hydrogen which can react violently with nitrous oxide. Despite numerous shock tube studies on H2-N2O delay times, the pressure effect has never been addressed. The present work aims at studying this effect and at developing a detailed kinetic mechanism able to accurately reproduce experimental delay time data. Delay times of H2-N2O-Ar mixtures have been measured behind reflected shock waves in the 1300-2000 K temperature range and at a pressure around 300 kPa. Mixtures equivalence ratios ranged between 0.5 and 2, and the dilution was 98 and 99 mol% Ar. The present results and those from a previous study carried out in our institute show, first that, in the studied conditions, the equivalence ratio has no influence on delay times, and second, that the pressure increase drastically reduces the delay times. A kinetic model has been constructed from previously published mechanisms and tested against the present data with a mean error of 29%. Moreover, other delay time data from the literature for H2-O2-Ar, NH3-Ar and H2-N2O-Ar mixtures are also correctly reproduced as well as macroscopic parameters such as reduced activation energies.  相似文献

We discuss the constructive role of noise (white and colored) in chaos synchronization in time-delayed systems. We first numerically investigate noise-induced synchronization (NIS) between two identical uncoupled Ikeda and Mackey–Glass systems. We find that synchronization occurs above a critical noise intensity that differs for different colors of noise. Synchronization onset is characterized by the value of the maximum transverse Lyapunov exponent. We then discuss the enhancement of chaos synchronization between two time-delayed systems when they are coupled unidirectionally. The effect of parameter mismatch for NIS is described in detail. We provide experimental evidence of NIS for a Mackey–Glass-like system in an electronic circuit using different colors of noise. An integration scheme for time-delayed systems in the presence of additive white and colored noise is discussed.  相似文献

We present a study of sound propagation through a single vortex by direct numerical simulations (DNS) compared to experimental measurements. We analyse the amplitude and the phase shift of the sound wave when it interacts with the vortical flow and we display the focusing effects produced by the vortex. We show that the turbulent fluctuations have a little effect on the sound phase shift whereas they induce a strong defocusing effect on the sound amplitude. This paper presents an investigation of the generation of an electrostatic pulse by an EM pulse (Gaussian in space and time), propagating as a right/left-handed circularly polarized mode along the static magnetic field in a collisionless magnetoplasma. The generated electrostatic pulse, again interacting with an incident EM pulse, generates a second harmonic EM pulse. The effect of self-focusing of the incident EM pulse is seen to be significant on the generated pulses.  相似文献

We report a scheme for generating pulsed polarization-entangled photon pairs based on conversion from time-bin entanglement to polarization entanglement by use of an orthogonal polarization delay circuit and post-selection. We have experimentally demonstrated the scheme, using a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide, and successfully obtained polarization entanglement in the 1.55-microm telecom wavelength band.  相似文献

Scintillation measurements of a 1064 nm laser at a 5 kHz sampling rate were made by an optical ground station at the European Space Agency observatory in Tenerife, Spain while tracking a low Earth orbit satellite during the spring and summer of 2010. The scintillation index (SI), the variance of irradiance normalized to the square of the mean, and power spectra measurements were compared to theoretical predictions based on the Kolmogorov spectrum, the Maui3 nighttime turbulence profile, weak scintillation finite-beam wave theory, included receiver, and source aperture averaging with no free-fitting parameters. Good agreement was obtained, not only for the magnitude of the observed fluctuations, but also for the corresponding elevation angle dependence and shape of the power spectra. Little variation was seen for the SI between daytime and nighttime links. For all elevation angles, ascending and descending, the observed scintillation over extensive regions of the atmosphere is consistent with log-normal statistics. Additionally, it appears from the results presented here that the nighttime turbulence profile for the atmosphere above the observatory in Tenerife is similar to that above Haleakala in Maui, Hawaii.  相似文献

Delayed emission is a common decay process for very excited complex systems where the excitation energy is, to a large extent, statistically distributed over all accessible degrees of freedom. A rich variety of delayed decay processes is found in complex molecules and clusters such as thermionic emission, evaporation of heavy fragments or blackbody radiation. In this article, we present the general threshold laws that govern the kinetic energy spectrum of matter particles (electrons or fragments) ejected from spherically symmetric species in such processes, and we illustrate these laws by experimental results obtained in photoelectron and photoion spectroscopy. Deviations from simple laws for non spherical species are also evidenced.  相似文献

The most important aspects in solving inverse and direct spectroscopic problems in the second order of perturbation theory in the presence of Coriolis, Fermi, and Darling-Dennison resonances are discussed. A scheme for obtaining unperturbed values of spectroscopic parameters is suggested which has some advantages over that proposed earlier in [6]. Recently, the study of acoustics in urban terrain has been concerned with the propagation of sound through street canyons typical of residential areas in large cities, while sparsely built suburban and rural areas have received little attention. An isolated building's effect on propagating sound is a fundamental case of suburban acoustics and urban acoustics in general. Its study is a necessity in order to determine the processes that might be required to model the sound field in the building's vicinity, e.g., diffraction and wind effects. The work herein presents the results of an experimental effort to characterize the interaction between propagating sound and a single story, gabled-roof building typical of some North American suburban and rural areas. Recorded data are found to reasonably compare to a common diffraction model in some instances.  相似文献
