For many applications, optical multimode fibers are used for the transmission of powerful laser radiation. High light throughput and damage resistance are desirable. Laser-induced breakdown at the end faces of fibers can limit their performance. Therefore, the determination of laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDT) at the surface of fibers is essential.Nanosecond (1064 nm and 532 nm wavelength) single-shot LIDT were measured according to the relevant standard on SiO2 glass preforms (Suprasil F300) as basic materials of the corresponding fibers. For 10 kinds of fused silica fibers (FiberTech) with core diameters between 180 μm and 600 μm, an illumination approach utilizing a stepwise increase of the laser fluence on a single spot was used. For both wavelengths, the LIDT values (0% damage probability) obtained by means of the two methods were compared. The influence of surface preparation (polishing) on damage resistance was investigated. For equal surface finishing, a correlation between drawing speed of the fibers and their surface LIDT values was found. In addition to the surface measurements, bulk LIDT were determined for the preform material.  相似文献

Optical multimode fibers are applied in materials processing (e.g. automotive industry), defense, aviation technology, medicine and biotechnology. One challenging task concerning the production of multimode fibers is the enhancement of laser-induced damage thresholds. A higher damage threshold enables a higher transmitted average power at a given fiber diameter or the same power inside a thinner fiber to obtain smaller focus spots. In principle, different material parameters affect the damage threshold. Besides the quality of the preform bulk material itself, the drawing process during the production of the fiber and the preparation of the fiber end surfaces influence the resistance. Therefore, the change of the laser-induced damage threshold of preform materials was investigated in dependence on a varying thermal treatment and preparation procedure.Single and multi-pulse laser-induced damage thresholds of preforms (F300, Heraeus) were measured using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm wavelength emitting pulses with a duration of 15 ns, a pulse energy of 12 mJ and a repetition rate of 10 Hz. The temporal and spatial shape of the laser pulses were controlled accurately.Laser-induced damage thresholds in a range from 150 J cm−2 to 350 J cm−2 were determined depending on the number of pulses applied to the same spot, the thermal history and the polishing quality of the samples, respectively.  相似文献

The formation of cationic clusters in the laser ablation of CdS targets has been investigated as a function of wavelength and fluence by mass spectrometric analysis of the plume. Ablation was carried out at the laser wavelengths of 1064, 532, 355, and 266 nm in order to scan the interaction regimes below and above the energy band gap of the material. In all cases, the mass spectra showed stoichiometric Cd n S n + and nonstoichiometric Cd n S n−1+, Cd n S n+1+, and Cd n S n+2+ clusters up to 4900 amu. Cluster size distributions were well represented by a log-normal function, although larger relative abundance for clusters with n=13, 16, 19, 34 was observed (magic numbers). The laser threshold fluence for cluster observation was strongly dependent on wavelength, ranging from around 16 mJ/cm2 at 266 nm to more than 300 mJ/cm2 at 532 and 1064 nm. According to the behavior of the detected species as a function of fluence, two distinct families were identified: the “light” family containing S2+ and Cd+ and the “heavy” clusterized family grouping Cd2+ and Cd n S m +. In terms of fluence, it has been determined that the best ratio for clusterization is achieved close to the threshold of appearance of clusters at all wavelengths. At 1064, 532, and 355 nm, the production of “heavy” cations as a function of fluence showed a maximum, indicating the participation of competitive effects, whereas saturation is observed at 266 nm. In terms of relative production, the contribution of the “heavy” family to the total cation signal was significantly lower for 266 nm than for the longer wavelengths. Irradiation at 355 nm in the fluence region of 200 mJ/cm2 has been identified as the optimum for the generation of large clusters in CdS.  相似文献

We present the results of studies of the nonlinear optical properties of Pd, Ru, and Au nanoparticles. We studied the nonlinear refraction and nonlinear absorption of suspensions of these nanoparticles at 1064-nm wavelength. A relatively strong nonlinear absorption of the Pd nanoparticles was observed in the case of 1064-nm, 50-ps pulses (β=2×10−9 m W−1). The Ru and Pd nanoparticles showed weak negative nonlinear refraction (γ∼−(6–8)×10−16 m2 W−1) in this spectral range. In the case of the Au nanoparticles, a saturated absorption at 532 nm dominated over other nonlinear optical processes.  相似文献

HfO2 is one of the most important high refractive index materials for depositing high power optical mirrors. In this research, HfO2 thin films were prepared by dual-ion beam reactive sputtering method, and the laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDT) of the sample were measured in 1-on-1 mode for laser with 1064 nm wavelength. The results indicate that the LIDT of the as-grown sample is only 3.96 J/cm2, but it is increased to 8.98 J/cm2 after annealing under temperature of 200 °C in atmosphere. By measuring the laser weak absorption and SIMS of the samples, we deduced that substoichiometer is the main reason for the low LIDT of the as-grown sample, and the experiment results were well explained with the theory of electronic-avalanche ionization.  相似文献

Ta2O5 films were prepared with conventional electron beam evaporation and annealed in O2 at 673 K for 12 h. Laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDTs) of the films were performed at 532 and 1064 nm in 1-on-1 regime firstly, and then were performed at 532, 800, and 1064 nm in n-on-1 regime, respectively. The results showed that the LIDTs in n-on-1 regime were higher than that in 1-on-1 regime at 532 and 1064 nm. In addition, in n-on-1 regime, the LIDT increased with the increase of wavelength. Furthermore, both the optical property and LIDT of Ta2O5 films were influenced by annealing in O2.  相似文献

We report the surface laser damage threshold in sodium p-nitrophenolate dihydrate, a nonlinear optical crystal. The experiment is performed with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser in TEM00 mode. The single shot damage thresholds are 11.16±0.28 GW cm-2 and 1.25±0.02 GW cm-2 for 1064 nm and 532 nm laser wavelengths respectively. A close correlation between the laser damage threshold and mechanical hardness is observed. A possible mechanism of laser damage is discussed. PACS 42.70.Mp; 61.80.Ba; 81.10.Dn  相似文献

We report an experimental investigation of the non-steady-state photoelectromotive force in nanostructured GaN within porous glass and polypyrrole within chrysotile asbestos. The samples are illuminated by an oscillating interference pattern created by two coherent light beams and the alternating current is detected as a response of the material. Dependences of the signal amplitude versus temporal and spatial frequencies, light intensity, and temperature are studied for two wavelengths λ=442 and 532 nm. The conductivity of the GaN composite is measured: σ=(1.1–1.6)×10−10 Ω−1 cm−1 (λ=442 nm, I 0=0.045–0.19 W/cm2, T=293 K) and σ=(3.5–4.6)×10−10 Ω−1 cm−1 (λ=532 nm, I 0=2.3 W/cm2, T=249–388 K). The diffusion length of photocarriers in polypyrrole nanowires is also estimated: L D=0.18 μm.  相似文献

The neutral species present in CdS ablation plumes upon nanosecond 532 nm laser irradiation at a moderate fluence of 0.5–0.75 J cm−2 have been studied. Neutral Cd n S m clusters have been identified, some as large as (CdS)33−34 (1–2 nm in diameter). The analysis of the dynamics of neutral species shows an expansion with two components that differ both in composition and dynamics. A fast, high kinetic energy component, dominated by S2 which acquires free-flow conditions at short distances from the target, is followed by a slower component characterized by similar speeds for all species. This slower component shows dynamic features that are expected to favor aggregation processes leading to effective cluster formation.  相似文献

Laser-induced backside wet and dry etching (LIBWE and LIBDE) methods were developed for micromachining of transparent materials. Comparison of these techniques is helpful in understanding the etching mechanism but was not realized due to complications in setting up comparable experimental conditions. In our comparative investigations we used a solid tin film for dry and molten tin droplets for wet etching of fused-silica plates. A tin–fused-silica interface was irradiated through the sample by a KrF excimer laser beam (λ=248 nm, FWHM=25 ns); the fluence was varied between 400 and 2100 mJ/cm2. A significant difference between the etch depths of the two investigated methods was not found. The slopes of the lines fitted to the measured data (slLIBDE=0.111 nm/mJ cm−2, slLIBDE=0.127 nm/mJ cm−2) were almost similar. Etching thresholds for LIBDE and LIBWE were approximately 650 and 520 mJ/cm2, respectively. To compare the dependence of etch rates on the pulse number, target areas were irradiated at different laser fluences and pulse numbers. With increasing pulse number a linear rise of depth was found for wet etching while for dry etching the etch depth increase was nonlinear. Secondary ion mass spectroscopic investigations proved that this can be due to the reconstruction of a new thinner tin-containing surface layer after the first pulse.  相似文献

Interaction of Nd:YAG laser, operating at 1064 or 532 nm wavelength and a pulse duration of 40 ps, with AISI 1045 steel was studied. Surface damage thresholds were estimated to be 0.30 and 0.16 J/cm2 at the wavelengths of 1064 and 532 nm, respectively. The steel surface modification was studied at the laser energy density of 10.3 J/cm2 (at 1064 nm) and 5.4 J/cm2 (at 532 nm). The energy absorbed from Nd:YAG laser beam is partially converted to thermal energy, which generates a series of effects, such as melting, vaporization of the molten material, shock waves, etc. The following AISI 1045 steel surface morphological changes and processes were observed: (i) both laser wavelengths cause damage of the steel in the central zone of irradiated area; (ii) appearance of a hydrodynamic feature in the form of resolidified droplets of the material in the surrounding outer zone with 1064 nm laser wavelength; (iii) appearance of periodic surface structures, at micro- and nano-level, with the 532 nm wavelength and, (iv) development of plasma in front of the target. Generally, interaction of laser beam with the AISI 1045 steel (at 1064 and 532 nm) results in a near-instantaneous creation of damage, meaning that large steel surfaces can be processed in short time.  相似文献

Single crystals of a chalcone co-crystal (C18H19NO4/C17H16NO3Br; 0.972/0.028) have been grown by slow evaporation from solution. The powder second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of this chalcone co-crystal is 7 times that of urea. The dependence of second harmonic (SH) intensity on particle size revealed the existence of phase matching direction in this crystal. The large SHG efficiency observed is mainly due to the unidirectional alignment of molecular dipoles, in which the dipole moment of each molecule adds to establish a net polarization. The weak N–H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen-bond interactions help to stabilize the noncentrosymmetric crystal packing and also contribute partly to the SHG. The better thermal stability, transparency and high laser damage resistance (>1.5 GW cm−2 at 532 nm, 8 ns) of this chalcone co-crystal indicate that it is a promising material for frequency doubling of diode lasers down to 470 nm. This molecule also shows a third-order NLO response and good optical limiting property of 8 ns laser pulses at 532 nm. The mechanism for optical limiting in this chalcone was attributed to two-photon induced excited state absorption that leads to reverse saturable absorption. The structure–property relationship in this chalcone and related compounds is discussed based on the experimental results and semiempherical hyperpolarizability calculations.  相似文献

A laser pulse transient method for measuring normal spectral emissivity is described. In this method, a laser pulse (λ=1064 nm) irradiates the top surface of a flat specimen. A two-dimensional temperature response of the bottom surface is measured with a calibrated thermographic camera. By solving an axisymmetric boundary value heat conduction problem, the normal spectral emissivity at 1064 nm is determined by using an iterative nonlinear least-squares estimation procedure. The method can be applied to arbitrary sample surface quality. The method is tested on a nickel specimen and used to determine the normal spectral emissivity of AISI 304 stainless steel. The expanded combined uncertainty of the method has been estimated to be 18%.  相似文献

The mechanism of improving 1064 nm, 12 ns laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of TiO2/SiO2 high reflectors (HR) prepared by electronic beam evaporation from 5.1 to 13.1 J/cm2 by thermal annealing is discussed. Through optical properties, structure and chemical composition analysis, it is found that the reduced atomic non-stoichiometric defects are the main reason of absorption decrease and LIDT rise after annealing. A remarkable increase of LIDT is found at 300 °C annealing. The refractive index and film inhomogeneity rise, physical thickness decrease, and film stress changes from compress stress to tensile stress due to the structure change during annealing.  相似文献

Results are presented on the surface damage thresholds of ITO thin films induced by single- and multi-pulse laser irradiation at a pulse duration of 10 ps and a wavelength of 1064 nm. For multi-pulse ablation the incubation effect results in a reduction of the damage threshold, especially apparent at low pulse numbers and very small film thicknesses. The incubation effect attributes to the accumulation of defect sites and/or the storage of thermal stress-strain energy induced by the incident laser pulses. An incubation coefficient of S=0.82 has been obtained which is independent on the film thickness in the range of 10–100 nm. In practical applications, the incubation effect determines the laser patterning structure of ITO films while increasing the pulse overlapping rate. The width of the patterned line can be predicted by the proposed model involving the laser fluence, the overlapping rate and the incubation coefficient.  相似文献

Utilising a Nd:YVO4 laser (wavelength of 532 nm, pulse duration of 8 ns, repetition rate of 30 kHz) and a Nd:YAG laser (wavelength of 1064 nm, pulse duration of 7 ns, repetition rate of 25 kHz), it was found that during the pulsed laser ablation of metal targets, such as stainless steel, periodic nodular microstructures (microcones) with average periods ranging from ∼30 to ∼50 μm were formed. This period depends on the number of accumulated laser pulses and is independent of the laser wavelength. It was found that the formation of microcones could occur after as little as 1500 pulses/spot (a lower number than previously reported) are fired onto a target surface location at laser fluence of ∼12 J/cm2, intensity of ∼1.5 GW/cm2. The initial feedback mechanism required for the formation of structures is attributed to the hydrodynamic instabilities of the melt. In addition to this, it has been shown that the structures grow along the optical axis of the incoming laser radiation. We demonstrate that highly regular structures can be produced at various angles, something not satisfactorily presented on metallic surfaces previously. The affecting factors such as incident angle of the laser beam and the structures that can be formed when varying the manner in which the laser beam is scanned over the target surface have also been investigated.  相似文献

In this work, the two-excitation wavelength laser induced incandescence (LII) method has been applied in a low-pressure premixed methane/oxygen/nitrogen flame (equivalence ratio 2.32) to determine the variation of the ratio of the soot absorption functions at 532 nm and 1064 nm E(m,532 nm)/E(m,1064 nm) along the flame. This method relies on the comparison of LII signals measured upon two different excitation wavelengths (here 532 nm and 1064 nm) and with laser fluences selected in such a way that the soot particles are equally laser-heated. The comparison of the laser fluences at 532 nm and 1064 nm leads to an easy determination of E(m,532 nm)/E(m,1064 nm). The reliability of the method is demonstrated for the first time in a low pressure flame in which the soot nucleation zone can be spatially resolved and which contains soot particles acting differently with the laser fluence according to their residence time in the flame. The method is then applied to determine the profile of E(m,532 nm)/E(m,1064 nm) along the flame. A very important decrease of this ratio is observed in the region of nascent soot, while the ratio remains constant at high distance above the burner. Implication on temperature determination from spectrally resolved measurement of flame emission is studied.  相似文献

A novel europium complex Eu(TTA)3(CPPO)2 (1) (TTA=thenoyltrifluoroacetone, CPPO=9-[4-(diphenyl-phosphinoyl)-phenyl]-9H-carbazole) based on the phosphine oxide ligand with bipolar structure was used to fabricate double-layer devices. The strong hole injection and transport ability of 1 was proved. The luminance of 414 cd m−2 was achieved with the device configuration ITO/Eu(TTA)3(CPPO)2(40 nm)/BCP (30 nm)/Mg:Ag (BCP = 2, 9-dimethyl-4, 7-diphenyl-1, 10-phenanthroline), which is favorable among double-layer organic light emitting devices based on small molecular Eu3+ complexes. The maximum current efficiency of 2.44 cd A−1 and external quantum efficiency of 1.55% demonstrate the potential application of 1 as a promising candidate for high-efficiency, simple-structure and pure red-emitting devices.  相似文献

We describe a new technique to measure the UV/visible absorption spectrum of the ablated material during the laser pulse. The technique utilizes the continuum emission from one laser produced plasma as a light source to measure the absorption properties of a second laser produced plasma which is formed on a semi-transparent target with an array of 40 μm holes. A 6 ns, 1064 nm laser was used to ablate a Ag target and the plasma absorption was measured in the range 450–625 nm for a laser fluence of 1 J cm−2. The total absorption cross-section is (0.5–1.5)×10−17 cm2 in the range 450–540 nm. By comparing the measured absorption with a calculation using the plasma spectroscopy code FLYCHK it can be concluded that, in the wavelength region examined here, the absorption is mainly due to bound-bound transitions.  相似文献

Interaction of an Nd:YAG laser, operating at 1064 or 532 nm wavelength and pulse duration of 40 ps, with titanium implant was studied. Surface damage thresholds were estimated to 0.9 and 0.6 J/cm2 at wavelengths 1064 and 532 nm, respectively. The titanium implant surface modification was studied by the laser beam of energy density of 4.0 and 23.8 J/cm2 (at 1064 nm) and 13.6 J/cm2 (at 532 nm). The energy absorbed from the Nd:YAG laser beam is partially converted to thermal energy, which generates a series of effects, such as melting, vaporization of the molten material, shock waves, etc. The following titanium/implant surface morphological changes were observed: (i) both laser wavelengths cause damage of the titanium in the central zone of the irradiated area, (ii) appearance of a hydrodynamic feature in the form of resolidified droplets of the material in the surrounding outer zone with the 1064 nm laser wavelength and (iii) appearance of wave-like microstructures with the 532 nm wavelength. Generally, both laser wavelengths and the corresponding laser energy densities can efficiently enhance the titanium/implant roughness. This implant roughness is expected to improve its bio-integration. The process of the laser interaction with titanium implant was accompanied by formation of plasma.  相似文献
