Photonic bandgap fibers for transverse illumination containing half-wavelength microcavities have recently been designed and fabricated. We report on the fabrication and characterization of an all-optical tunable microcavity fiber. The fiber is made by incorporating a photorefractive material inside a Fabry-Perot cavity structure with a quality factor Q >200 operating at 1.5 microm. Under short-wavelength transverse external illumination, a 2 nm reversible shift of the cavity resonant mode is achieved. Dynamic all-optical tuning is reported at frequencies up to 400 Hz. Experimental results are compared with simulations based on the amplitude and kinetics of the transient photodarkening effect measured in situ in thin films.  相似文献

Neutral-beam-driven compressional Alfvén eigenmodes at frequencies below the ion cyclotron frequency have been observed and identified for the first time in the National Spherical Torus Experiment. The modes are observed as a broad spectrum of nearly equally spaced peaks in the frequency range from approximately 0.2omega(ci) to approximately 1.2omega(ci). The frequency has a scaling with toroidal field and plasma density consistent with Alfvén waves. The modes have been observed with high bandwidth magnetic pickup coils and with a reflectometer.  相似文献

We study a quantum electrodynamics(QED) system made of a two-level atom and a semi-infinite rectangular waveguide, which behaves as a perfect mirror in one end. The spatial dependence of the atomic spontaneous emission has been included in the coupling strength relevant to the eigenmodes of the waveguide. The role of retardation is studied for the atomic transition frequency far away from the cutoff frequencies. The atom-mirror distance introduces different phases and retardation times into the dynamics of the atom interacting resonantly with the corresponding transverse modes. It is found that the upper state population decreases from its initial as long as the atom-mirror distance does not vanish, and is lowered and lowered when more and more transverse modes are resonant with the atom. The atomic spontaneous emission can be either suppressed or enhanced by adjusting the atomic location for short retardation time.There are partial revivals and collapses due to the photon reabsorbed and re-emitted by the atom for long retardation time.  相似文献

The explorations of parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$)-symmetric acoustics have resided at the frontier in physics, and the pre-existing accessing of exceptional points typically depends on Fabry-Perot resonances of the coupling interlayer sandwiched between balanced gain and loss components. Nevertheless, the concise $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric acoustic heterostructure, eliminating extra interactions caused by the interlayer, has not been researched in depth. Here we derive the generalized unitary relation for one-dimensional (1D) $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric heterostructure of arbitrary complexity, and demonstrate four disparate patterns of anisotropic transmission resonances (ATRs) accompanied by corresponding spontaneous phase transitions. As a special case of ATR, the occasional bidirectional transmission resonance reconsolidates the ATR frequencies that split when waves incident from opposite directions, whose spatial profiles distinguish from a unitary structure. The derived theoretical relation can serve as a predominant signature for the presence of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry and $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-breaking transition, which may provide substantial support for the development of prototype devices with asymmetric acoustic responses.  相似文献

The technique of asymmetric Fourier transform spectroscopy has been used to determine the complex relative permittivities of undoped GaAs at frequencies near the transverse optic mode. It is demonstrated that the anharmonic damping function calculated from these results is sensitive to two phonon processes excited by the anharmonic decay of the qO transverse optic phonon. Critical-point phonon frequencies are assigned from the structure revealed in damping function.  相似文献

Experiments on the JET tokamak show that the wave-induced pinch in the presence of toroidally asymmetric waves can provide a tool for controlling the profile of ion-cyclotron-resonant 3He ions. Direct evidence for the wave-induced pinch has been obtained from the measured gamma-ray emission profiles. Concurrent differences in the excitation of Alfvén eigenmodes (AEs), sawtooth stabilization, electron temperatures, and fast-ion stored energies are observed. The measured location of the AEs and gamma-ray emission profiles are consistent with the fast-ion radial gradient providing the drive for AEs.  相似文献

We investigate the properties of an open Fabry-Perot microcavity containing a layer of metamaterial with a negative refractive index. Numerical simulation of this cavity is performed using an original program package based on the FDTD scheme, with allowance for the frequency dispersion of the media and the UPML absorbing boundary conditions. We demonstrate that waveguide eigenmodes with arbitrary profiles exist in such a cavity and the metamaterial lowers diffraction losses considerably.  相似文献

An extraordinary phenomenon of generation of coupled types of oscillations with a transverse field distribution corresponding to the ТЕМ pq eigenmodes with different pairs of indices p and q in the main laser cavity and in an external cavity has been experimentally detected. The excitation of coupled modes depends on the configuration and tuning of partial cavities. To solve the system of integral equations for a three-mirror cavity with mismatched spherical mirrors in the quasioptical approximation, it has been proposed to use modified boundary conditions including the coupling coefficients for eigenmodes in partial cavities.  相似文献

The effect of forced mechanical vibrations of a suspended single-electron transistor on Coulomb-blockade limited electron tunneling through a quantum dot has been studied. The mechanical vibrations of the quantum dot have been shown to result in the Coulomb blockade breakdown, which is manifested by narrow resonance peaks of the transistor conductance as a function of the excitation frequency at the frequencies corresponding to the eigenmodes of the mechanical vibrations. The mechanism of the observed effect presumably associated with the oscillations of the mutual electrical capacitances between the quantum dot and the surrounding electrodes is discussed.  相似文献

The relaxation of a geometrically unstable Fabry-Perot cavity is theoretically and experimentally investigated. It is observed that the usual sum of the exponential decays of the intensities in the different transverse modes of the cavity is replaced by a more complex behavior. In particular, light couplings into the fundamental mode of the cavity with initial wave excitation factors larger than unity, i.e., larger than in the case of mode-matched injection, are directly observed. The influence of the cavity Fresnel number and of transverse mode crossings and anticrossings on these cavity decays is isolated.  相似文献

研究了冷原子与法布里-珀罗腔内拉盖尔-高斯横模强耦合相互作用体系的透射光谱, 分析了透射光谱与原子在腔中运动轨迹的关系. 结果表明, 与厄米特-高斯横模相比, 拉盖尔-高斯横模的腔场与原子的最大耦合系数几乎不随阶数的增加而变化, 使得探测光谱的对比度受模式阶数的影响较小. 在拉盖尔-高斯横模场分布的圆环边缘附近, 原子运动轨迹的微小偏移会引起透射光谱的很大变化, 因此在这些位置可以实现原子运动轨迹的高精度探测.  相似文献

The vibrations of linear ABC2 type molecules with C∞V point group are analysed in terms of Cartesian co-ordinates. Algebraic expressions for the three stretching and two bending normal mode frequencies are derived in terms of longitudinal and transverse force constants, atomic masses and bond lengths. Values of non-valence interaction parameters are transferred from A2B2 (D∞h) molecules, and values of the principal force constants are adjusted to reproduce the observed frequencies for a number of asymmetric halogen derivatives of acetylene. Normal mode frequencies of various isotopic species are also calculated. The nature of the computed eigenvectors for these molecules is briefly discussed. It is found that the carbon-carbon and carbon-hydrogen valence interactions remain approximately constant for these molecules, whereas the carbon-halogen bonds show a weakening trend with increasing halogen mass.  相似文献

On the case of a plasma layer we show that in a hot plasma with the inhomogeneity of density across the magnetic field there exist eigenmodes for frequencies of hybrid resonance that are combinations of two kinds of waves: The potential long waves of cold plasma and the short-wave Bernstein modes. Their coupling is due to transformation in the region of the hybrid resonance. These eigenmodes can also be travelling waves with energy transmitted in one direction by a long wave and in the opposite one by a short wave. Different types of eigenmodes and corresponding quantization conditions are obtained.  相似文献

The transformations of the transverse profiles of laser beams in a nonlinear Fabry-Perot interferometer based on lithium niobate crystals with a surface layer doped with a combination of photorefractive impurities (iron and copper ions) have been experimentally investigated. It is demonstrated that the distribution of transmitted beam intensity significantly changes for a few seconds at milliwatt beam powers.  相似文献

Locking of two resonance modes of different symmetry classes and different frequencies in 2D resonant microcavity lasers is investigated by using a nonlinear dynamical model. The patterns of stationary lasing states and far fields are asymmetric in spite of the symmetric shape of the resonant microcavity. Dispersion relation matrices, with the screened Coulomb interaction between a charged dust particle and all other particles taken into account, are derived for waves in body centred cubic (bcc) and face centred cubic (fcc) lattices in three-dimensional strongly coupled complex plasma crystals separately. The matrices are then calculated in characteristic directions to obtain the longitudinal and transverse eigenmodes. Optical phonons in an ionic crystal with two atoms per unit cell have been considered. The equation of relative motion of oppositely charged sublattices has been derived with the use of the concept of the self-consistent electromagnetic field. The frequency corresponding to transverse optical phonons and the expression for the frequency of the eigenmodes of the ionic crystal in terms of the physical characteristics of the crystal have been obtained from the condition of electrostatic equilibrium. The calculated values of the latter frequency agree with the experimental data.  相似文献

Distribution of eigenfrequencies for vibrating plates   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Acoustic spectra of free plates with a chaotic billiard shape have been measured, and all resonance frequencies in the range 0-500 kHz have been identified. The spectral fluctuations are analyzed and compared to predictions of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) of random matrices. The best agreement is found with a superposition of two independent GOE spectra with equal density which indicates that two types of eigenmodes contribute to the same extent. To explain and predict these results a detailed theoretical analysis is carried out below the first cut-off frequency where only flexural and in-plane vibrations are possible. Using three-dimensional plate dispersion relations and two-dimensional models for flexural and in-plane vibrations we obtained two first terms of the asymptotic expansion of the counting function of these eigenmodes. The contribution of edge modes is also discussed. The results are in a very good agreement with the experimentally measured number of modes. The analysis shows that the two types of modes have almost equal level density in the measured frequency interval, and this explains the observed spectral statistics. For a plate with broken symmetry in the up-down direction (where flexural and in-plane modes are strongly coupled) experimentally observed spectral fluctuations correspond to a single GOE spectrum. Above the first cut-off frequency a greater complexity of the spectral fluctuations is expected since a larger number of types of modes will contribute to the spectrum.
