Ionic Liquid Promoted One-Pot Synthesis of Furo[2,3-<Emphasis Type="Italic">d</Emphasis>]pyrimidine-2,4(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,3<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-diones

Summary. The three-component condensation of aldehyde, N,N′-dimethylbarbituric acid and alkyl or aryl isocyanide afforded the corresponding furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide as an ionic liquid in high yields at room temperature within several minutes.     

Synthesis from geraniol of (2<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,6<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,10<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>,14<Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis>)-16-hydroxygeranylgeraniol and some of its derivatives

Several α,ω-bifunctional derivatives of E,E,E-geranylgeraniol were prepared via convergent synthesis starting with geraniol (8), which was converted in three steps into the tetrahydropyranyl ether of 8-chlorogeraniol (9) and 8-hydroxygeranylphenylsulfone (10). Combination of synthons 9 and 10 with subsequent reductive removal of the phenylsulfonyl group produced the tetrahydropyranyl ether of ω-hydroxygeranylgeraniol (5), hydrolysis of which gave exclusively trans-ω-hydroxygeranylgeraniol (1). Synthesis and some transformations of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>,2,2-trimethyltetrahydro-2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyran-4-amine

Reaction of 2,2-dimethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-one with aqueous methanamine, followed by reduction of the Schiff base thus obtained with sodium tetrahydridoborate gave N,2,2-trimethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-amine which was subjected to cyanoethylation with acrylonitrile. The resulting 3-(2,2-dimethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-ylmethylamino)propanenitrile was reduced with lithium tetrahydridoaluminate to N-(2,2-dimethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-4-yl)-N-methylpropane-1,3-diamine, and some chemical transformations of the latter were studied.     

Synthesis and Stereochemistry of 1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,5<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-Naphtho[1,8-<Emphasis Type="Italic">ef</Emphasis>][1,3]dithiocine 2-Oxides

3-Substituted 1H,5H-naphtho[1,8-ef][1,3]dithiocines (R = H, Me, Ph, t-Bu) were oxidized with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid to the corresponding 2-oxides having trans configuration (R ≠ H). According to the ¹H and ¹³C NMR data (including NOESY experiments), the disubstituted compounds at room temperature exist in a boat conformation with equatorial orientation of the substituent on C³ and oxygen atom on S². Comparative characteristics of water-soluble proteins from <Emphasis Type="Italic">Larix sibirica</Emphasis>, <Emphasis Type="Italic">Picea obovata</Emphasis>, and <Emphasis Type="Italic">Abies sibirica</Emphasis> bud meristem

The amount of water-soluble proteins in bud meristem of Larix sibirica L., Picea obovata L., and Abies sibirica L. was shown to increase by 2-3 times in autumn during development of low-temperature resistance. The fractional composition of water-soluble proteins of the studied species and the amino-acid composition of groups of water-soluble proteins with different molecular weight (MW) were similar. Nitrogen accumulated as aspartic acid, glycine, and alanine in high- and medium-molecular-weight proteins. The peptides (MW < 5 kDa) typically had a high content of hydrophobic proline and hydrophilic tyrosine.     

Structure and photochromism of 2-(<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-acyl-<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-arylaminomethylene)benzo[<Emphasis Type="Italic">b</Emphasis>]thiophen-3(2<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-ones

It was shown by electron absorption spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis that steric strains in photochromic 2-(N-acyl-N-arylaminomethylene) benzo[b]thiophen-3(2H)-one molecules ortho-substituted in the N-phenyl ring increase the quantum yield of the N→O photoinduced rearrangement in accord with an increase in the steric constant of the ortho-substituent.__________Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Synthesis of isomeric 2-oxazolidinones from (1<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>,2<Emphasis Type="Italic">R</Emphasis>)-and (1<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>,2<Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediols

A synthesis is reported for (4R,5R)-and (4S,5S)-4-hydroxymethyl-5-(4-nitrophenyl)oxazolidin-2-ones and (1′R,4R)-and (1′S,4S)-4-[hydroxy(4-nitrophenyl)methyl]oxazolidin-2-ones from (1R,2R)-and (1S,2S)-2-amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediols. Competitive complexation in the copper(II) chloride-<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>,<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-dimethylformamide-Aerosil system

Competitive complexation in the copper(II) chloride-N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF)-Aerosil system was studied by IR spectroscopy. It was found that adsorption from organic solutions containing copper(II) chloride and DMF resulted in the formation of the following three types of DMF complexes: self-associates of DMF, DMF complexes with surface hydroxyl groups, and DMF complexes with Cu(II) ions. Reaction 5-(Arylmethylidene)pyrimidine-2,4,6(1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,3<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>,5<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>)-triones with L-Proline and Aldehydes

Boiling in toluene of 5-(arylmethylidene)pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-triones with L-proline and aldehyde led to the formation of previously unknown substituted 1′-arylhexahydro-1H-spiro[pyrimidine-5,2′-pyrrolysine]-2,4,6(1H,3Н,5Н)-triones.     

Electrochemical polymerization of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>,<Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3-propylenediamine

The electrochemical oxidation of N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3-propylenediamine leads to the formation of conducting polymer on the electrode surface. The decisive role of phenol oxygen in the formation of the polymeric forms of azomethine bases was elucidated. Optimal conditions for the synthesis of the polymer in the potentiostatic conditions were revealed. The coefficient of the charge diffusion and the activation barrier for the charge transfer in the polymer bulk in the electrolyte medium were determined.
