This paper proposes a new tabu search algorithm for multi-objective combinatorial problems with the goal of obtaining a good approximation of the Pareto-optimal or efficient solutions. The algorithm works with several paths of solutions in parallel, each with its own tabu list, and the Pareto dominance concept is used to select solutions from the neighborhoods. In this way we obtain at each step a set of local nondominated points. The dispersion of points is achieved by a clustering procedure that groups together close points of this set and then selects the centroids of the clusters as search directions. A nice feature of this multi-objective algorithm is that it introduces only one additional parameter, namely, the number of paths. The algorithm is applied to the permutation flowshop scheduling problem in order to minimize the criteria of makespan and maximum tardiness. For instances involving two machines, the performance of the algorithm is tested against a Branch-and-Bound algorithm proposed in the literature, and for more than two machines it is compared with that of a tabu search algorithm and a genetic local search algorithm, both from the literature. Computational results show that the heuristic yields a better approximation than these algorithms.  相似文献

The Cumulative Assignment Problem is an NP-complete problem obtained by substituting the linear objective function of the classic Linear Assignment Problem, with a non-linear cumulative function. In this paper we present a first attempt to solve the Cumulative Assignment Problem with metaheuristic techniques. In particular we consider two standard techniques, namely the Simulated Annealing and the Multi-Start methods, and we describe the eXploring Tabu Search: a new structured Tabu Search algorithm which uses an iterative multi-level approach to improve the search. The new method is analyzed through extensive computational experiments and proves to be more effective than the standard methods.  相似文献

A Tabu Search Algorithm for the Quadratic Assignment Problem   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Tabu search approach based algorithms are among the widest applied to various combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, we propose a new version of the tabu search algorithm for the well-known problem, the quadratic assignment problem (QAP). One of the most important features of our tabu search implementation is an efficient use of mutations applied to the best solutions found so far. We tested this approach on a number of instances from the library of the QAP instances—QAPLIB. The results obtained from the experiments show that the proposed algorithm belongs to the most efficient heuristics for the QAP. The high efficiency of this algorithm is also demonstrated by the fact that the new best known solutions were found for several QAP instances.  相似文献

Heuristic Procedures for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
In this paper we present two new heuristic procedures for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP). The first one solves the problem from scratch, while the second one uses the information provided by a strong linear relaxation of the original problem. This second algorithm is designed to be used in a branch and cut approach to solve to optimality CVRP instances. In both heuristics, the initial solution is improved using tabu search techniques. Computational results over a set of known instances, most of them with a proved optimal solution, are given.  相似文献

We propose in this work a hybrid improvement procedure for the bin packing problem. This heuristic has several features: the use of lower bounding strategies; the generation of initial solutions by reference to the dual min-max problem; the use of load redistribution based on dominance, differencing, and unbalancing; and the inclusion of an improvement process utilizing tabu search. Encouraging results have been obtained for a very wide range of benchmark instances, illustrating the robustness of the algorithm. The hybrid improvement procedure compares favourably with all other heuristics in the literature. It improved the best known solutions for many of the benchmark instances and found the largest number of optimal solutions with respect to the other available approximate algorithms.  相似文献

We present a Tabu Search (TS) method that employs a simple version of ejection chains for coloring graphs. The procedure is tested on a set of benchmark problems. Empirical results indicate that the proposed TS implementation outperforms other metaheuristic methods, including Simulated Annealing, a previous version of Tabu Search and a recent implementation of a Greedy Randomized Adaptive Search Procedure (GRASP).  相似文献

Determining the maximum outerplanar subgraph of a given graph is known to be an NP-complete problem. In the literature there are no earlier experiment on approximating the maximum outerplanar subgraph problem. In this paper we compare solution quality and running times of different heuristics for finding maximum outerplanar subgraphs. We compare a greedy heuristic against a triangular cactus heuristic and its greedy variation. We also use the solutions from the greedy heuristics as initial solutions for a simulated annealing algorithm.The main experimental result is that simulated annealing with initial solution taken from the greedy triangular cactus heuristic yields the best known approximations for the maximum outerplanar subgraph problem.Work funded by the Tampere Graduate School in Information Science and Engineering (TISE) and supported by the Academy of Finland (Project 51528).  相似文献

A new heuristic procedure for the transportation problem with exclusionary side constraints is developed and implemented. Tabu search, a meta-heuristic method, is used to guide the search to follow a path selectively to prevent from being trapped at local optimal solutions in order to find a global optimal or near global optimal solution. The simplex method on a graph is employed to lead the search from one solution to an adjacent solution in order to take advantage of the underlying network structure of the problem. In the procedure, net changes in cost and in infeasibility are used to measure the attractiveness of a move, and strategic oscillation is used to implement the intensification and diversification functions. A computational experiment was conducted to test the performance of the heuristic procedure and substantial computational results are reported. These results show that the new heuristic procedure finds very good quality solutions and outperforms an existing heuristic procedure in terms of both solution quality and CPU time.  相似文献

This paper presents an interactive method for solving general 0-1 multiobjective linear programs using Simulated Annealing and Tabu Search. The interactive protocol with the decision maker is based on the specification of reservation levels for the objective function values. These reservation levels narrow the scope of the search in each interaction in order to identify regions of major interest to the decision maker. Metaheuristic approaches are used to generate potentially nondominated solutions in the computational phases. Generic versions of Simulated Annealing and Tabu Search for 0-1 single objective linear problems were developed which include a general routine for repairing unfeasible solutions. This routine improves significantly the results of single objective problems and, consequently, the quality of the potentially nondominated solutions generated for the multiobjective problems. An appropriate tabu search implementation is designed to solve the resource constrained project scheduling problem. This approach uses well defined move strategies and a structured neighbourhood, defines appropriate tabu status and tenure and takes account of objective function approximation to speed up the search process. A sound understanding of the problem has helped in many ways in designing and enhancing the tabu search methodology. The method uses diversification, intensification and handles infeasibility via strategic oscillation.The above methodology is tested on existing problems from the literature and also on parametrically generated problems with encouraging results. For comparison of results, optimal solutions are used in the former and lower bounds obtained by Lagrangian heuristics are used in the latter.  相似文献

A Tabu Search Heuristic for Resource Management in Naval Warfare   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Effective utilization of scarce resources, in particular weapon resources, is a prominent issue in naval anti-air warfare. In this paper, defence plans are constructed to guide the allocation and scheduling of different types of defence weapons against anti-ship missiles, subject to various physical and operational constraints. To reduce the frequency of replanning, decision trees are considered to explicitly account, in a probabilistic manner, for all possible outcomes of a particular action. A construction heuristic is first developed to generate an initial tree. A tabu search heuristic then improves this tree through the removal or addition of defence actions, followed by update operations aimed at maintaining the consistency. Numerical results obtained on scenarios with an increasing number of threats show that substantial improvements, in terms of survivability of the ship, can be obtained in reasonable computation times using tabu search.  相似文献

We apply tabu search techniques to the problem of determining the optimal configuration of a chain of protein sequences on a cubic lattice. The problem under study is difficult to solve because of the large number of possible conformations and enormous amount of computations required. Tabu search is an iterative heuristic procedure which has been shown to be a remarkably effective method for solving combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper, an algorithm is designed for the cubic lattice model using tabu search. The algorithm has been tested on a chain of 27 monomers. Computational results show that our method outperforms previously reported approaches for the same model.  相似文献

In the field of combinatorial optimization, it may be possible to more accurately represent reality through stochastic models rather than deterministic ones. When randomness is present in a problem, algorithm designers face new difficulties which complicate their task significantly. Finding a proper mathematical formulation and a fast evaluation of the objective function are two major issues. In this paper we propose a new tabu search algorithm based on sampling and statistical tests. The algorithm is shown to perform well in a stochastic environment where the quality of feasible solutions cannot be computed easily. This new search principle is illustrated in the field of cause and effect analysis where the true cause of an undesirable effect needs to be eliminated. A set of n potential causes is identified and each of them is assumed to be the true cause with a given probability. The time to investigate a cause is a random variable with a known probability distribution. Associated with each cause is the reward obtained if the cause is really the true cause. The decision problem is to sequence the n potential causes so as to maximize the expected reward realized before a specified time horizon.  相似文献

The problem considered is the full-load pickup and delivery problem with time windows (PDPTW), and heterogeneous products and vehicles, where the assignment of pickup points to requests is not predetermined. Elements associated with tabu search, such as diversification by reversion to junctions and the use of soft aspiration criteria, are embedded into our tabu search implementation. This metaheuristic is evaluated using random instances and selected data from a construction company in the U.K. The obtained results are compared against lower bounds from LP relaxation and also solutions from an existing multi-level heuristic.  相似文献

Tabu Search is a very effective method for approximately solving hard combinatorial problems. In the current work we implement Tabu Search for solving the Planar Three-Index Assignment Problem. The problem deals with finding the minimum cost assignment between elements of three distinct sets demanding that every pair of elements, each representing a different set, appears in the same solution exactly once. The solutions of the problems correspond to Latin squares. These structures form the basis of the move generation mechanism employed by the Tabu Search procedures. Standard Tabu Search ideas such as candidate move list, variable tabu list size, and frequency-based memory are tested. Computational results for a range of problems of varying dimensions are presented.  相似文献

The vertex coloring problem has been the subject of extensive research for many years. Driven by application potential as well as computational challenge, a variety of methods have been proposed for this difficult class of problems. Recent successes in the use of the unconstrained quadratic programming (UQP) model as a unified framework for modeling and solving combinatorial optimization problems have motivated a new approach to the vertex coloring problem. Tabu Search heuristics for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
This paper surveys the research on the Tabu Search heuristics for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (VRPTW). The VRPTW can be described as the problem of designing least cost routes for a fleet of vehicles from one depot to a set of geographically scattered points. The routes must be designed in such a way that each point is visited only once by exactly one vehicle within a given time interval; all routes start and end at the depot, and the total demands of all points on one particular route must not exceed the capacity of the vehicle. In addition to describing basic features of each method, experimental results for Solomon’s benchmark test problems are presented and analyzed. The Prize Collecting Traveling Salesman Problem is a generalization of the Traveling Salesman Problem. A salesman collects a prize for each visited city and pays a penalty for each non visited city. The objective is to minimize the sum of the travel costs and penalties, but collecting a minimum pre-established amount of prizes. This problem is here addressed by a simple, but efficient tabu search approach which had improved several upper bounds of the considered instances.  相似文献
