ABSTRACT

The analysis of food products is important for the assessment of food quality and authenticity, the control of a technological process, the determination of nutritional values, and the detection of compounds which could exert beneficial or toxic effects on human health. Techniques which are usually chosen for these purposes must provide accurate and reliable results, being relatively simple and inexpensive to perform. The aim of this paper is to give a brief overview of the thin-layer chromatography methods for the analysis of different compounds (polyphenols, dyes, carboxylic acids, biogenic amines, and vitamin C), used for quality assessment and authentication of non-fermented or fermented beverages derived from fruits, namely fruit juices and wines.  相似文献

Summary The conditions for thin-layer chromatographic determination of curcumine in turmeric root powder and spice-mixtures have been optimized. Separation of the methanolic extract on silica gel thin-layer plates with chloroform-acetic acid (8020) gave the best results. The curcumine can be directly determined on the layer by fluorometric scanning, after conversion to rubrocurcumine with a mixture of boric acid and oxalic acid as spray reagent. Determination of the amount of turmeric root powder in spice mixtures by determining the curcumine content is only possible if the curcumine content of the turmeric root powder used is known because different turmeric root powders may have different curcumine contents.  相似文献

Isomers were very well distinguished, resulting from different activities due to hydrogen bonding. Gel chromatographic behavior of 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine, abbreviated HOx) complexes of zinc, copper, aluminum, gallium and indium has been investigated on thin layers of Styragel 60A and Merckogel OR-PVA 2000 mostly in chloroform and p-dioxan media. Except for the stable Cu(Ox)2, the other oxinates exhibit either hydration or decomposition in gel-solvent-solute systems, which leads to strong retention or tailing on gel layers. An excess of 8-hydroxyquinoline present in solvents allows the oxinates to be stabilized, so that well-defined compact spots come out and migrate. For the Zn(Ox)2 the formation of a self-adduct is strongly suggested on the basis of gel chromatographic behavior. Elution with the solvent containing pyridine also yields evidence of the adduct formation of zinc oxinate-nitrogen base.  相似文献

尝试应用普通扫描仪作薄层色谱定量分析。样品通过硅胶板层析展开后,用碘蒸汽显色,再用普通扫描仪记录其图像,通过图像分析技术计算出斑点中样品的量。结果表明,对油醇、油酸、月桂胺和焦谷氨酸油酯等长碳链有机化合物,样点在nmol级的范围内时计算量与实际量有良好的线性相关性。  相似文献

Summary A thin-layer chromatographic method for the separation and identification of hitherto unknown disubstituted triphenodioxazines in submicrogram amounts has been developed using silica gel plates. The solvent systems used are acetone-petroleum ether (6040), benzene-petroleum ether (8020) and acetone-petroleum ether (5050). The compounds are detected by spraying the plates with 0.05 mol dm–3 sulphuric acid.  相似文献

In the Part 1 of this series a new equation for determining the Rm values in TLC with mixed mobile phases was proposed and examined by using the parameter m, which is a measure of energetic heterogeneity of the adsorbent surface with regard to the adsorbing molecules (admolecules). The numerical values of m, evaluated for 13 chromatographic systems, have been compared with that of the O?cik's parameter A, which characterizes solute-solvent interactions.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this study was to examine the bioactive flavonoids and carotenoids concentration in fifteen south Indian spice and two tree nut species using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Among four flavonoids, catechin concentration was the highest in all spices and nuts and ranged between 97.1 and 1745.4 µg g?1. Quercetin concentration was the greatest in cinnamon, followed by garlic and cumin and ranged from 0.4 to 65 µg g?1 in other spices and nuts. Lutein concentration ranged from 0.1 to 102.8 µg g?1. Of the spices and nuts studied, β-carotene concentration was highest in coriander leaves (74.7 µg g?1), followed by red pepper (12.5 µg g?1) and curry leaves (8.5 µg g?1). This research shows that consumption of south Indian spices and nuts could substantially benefit consumers living in regions experiencing Vitamin A and other micronutrient deficiencies.  相似文献

These data have been interpretated using the equation discussed by us in Part 1 of this series [HRC & CC 2 (1979) 236]. This review presents the research work appeared in the literature during 1983–2016 on identification, separation, and determination of surfactants using different modes of thin-layer chromatography (TLC), e.g., normal phase TLC (NP-TLC), high-performance TLC (HP-TLC), and reversed-phase TLC (RP-TLC). The relative work done on these techniques follows the trend: NP-TLC?>?HP-TLC?>?RP-TLC. Most of the work performed has been concentrated on the analysis of nonionic surfactants compared to the other types of surfactants. The analysis trend of surfactants by TLC follows the order: nonionic?>?cationic?>?anionic?>?amphoteric. Green solvents as an eluant in TLC analysis of surfactants have been recently introduced. In addition, the entry of ionic liquids (ILs) as a mobile phase or as an impregnant of stationary phase tremendously increased the scope of TLC as green chromatographic technique in the analysis of surfactants. The advantageous features of ILs including negligible vapor pressure, good thermal stability, tunable viscosity, nonflammable, and miscibility with water and organic solvents as well as good extractability for various organic compounds and metal ions have expanded the scope of TLC in chemical analysis.  相似文献

Summary The separation of iron, copper, nickel, and zinc by thin-layer chromatography was studied. Eight bonded-phase silica substrates and twenty-nine solvent systems were investigated. Solutions of 1% diphenylcarbazide in ethanol and 1% K4Fe(CN)6 in water were used to detect the metal ions. The best separation was obtained with an immobilized trifluoroacetylacetone substrate and 10% trifluoroacetylacetone in acetone mobile phase.  相似文献

Abstract

This research is carried out in order to characterize the actual contamination by two ubiquitous environmental pollutants, plasticizers and Bisphenol A, in spices (black pepper, caraway and coriander) and aromatic herbs (fennel, laurel, mint, oregano, rosemary, thyme and verbena) from Algeria (n?=?26), Tunisia (n?=?65) and Italy (n?=?53). Algerian samples seem to contain fewer residues than Italian and Tunisian samples. Among the Italian samples, only aromatic herbs, precisely mint, oregano, and laurel, were contaminated. In general, all Tunisian samples showed five plasticizers residues: the caraway, among the spices, and the rosemary, among the aromatic herbs, are found to contain more residues. Also, dietary intake of these contaminants by spices and aromatic herbs under analysis seems not to constitute a risk to the consumers.  相似文献

Within the last decades, in the EU, there has been an increasing interest in toxic plant alkaloids as food contaminants, especially after the continuous and growing consumption of plant-based foods compared with food of animal origin. In this regard, the once neglected presence of these tropane alkaloids (TAs) and pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) has recently been reconsidered by the European Food Safety Authority, highlighting the lack of data and the need to develop risk assessment strategies. For this reason, the emphasis has been placed on detecting their occurrence in food through the development of accurate and sensitive analytical methods to achieve the determination of these compounds. The present study aims to elaborate and validate an analytical method based on QuEChERS sample preparation approach, exploiting the UHPLC coupled to the HRMS to simultaneously identify and quantify 21 PAs and two TAs in cereals and spices. For TAs, the obtained limit of detection (LOD) is 0.1 μg·kg−1 and the limit of quantification (LOQ) is 0.4 μg·kg−1, while for PAs, the LODs values ranging between 0.2 to 0.3 μg·kg−1 and the LOQ, between 0.4 and 0.8 μg·kg−1, ensuring compliance with the recently established European Regulations. Several commercial samples were analysed to further verify the applicability of this comprehensive analytical approach.  相似文献

Bioautography on thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) plates is a means of detecting the biological activity of a sample which has migrated on the plate with a suitable solvent. It only requires small amounts of sample and is ideal for the investigation of plant constituents, which often occur as complex mixtures. It can be used for the target-directed isolation of these constituents. In contrast to HPLC, many samples can be run at the same time on TLC. Organic solvents, which cause inactivation of enzymes or death of living organisms, can be completely removed before biological detection. Many bioassays are compatible with TLC. Antimicrobial, radical scavenging, antioxidant activities and enzyme inhibition feature among the tests that are employed.  相似文献

A study has been undertaken on the effect of temperature on retention characteristics in thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with low-volatility mobile phases (MP). It is shown that temperature variations in TLC in melts bring about variations in both the relative retention values and, in some cases, in the order of migration of the chromatographic zones across the layer. The variation in the capacity factor k' with temperature agrees well with Martin's equation. To explain the temperature dependence of Rf one must, in general, take into account the variations with temperature in both the partition coefficient and the phase ratio. To describe the variation in Rf with temperature in TLC with low-volatile MP one can use an approximate equation in which In Rf is a linear function of 1/T. The experiments indicate that temperature is a major factor in TLC in melts.  相似文献
