In the scientific community, there is a growing interest in Tamarindus indica L. leaves, both as a valuable nutrient and as a functional food. This paper focuses on exploring its safety and antioxidant properties. A tamarind leaf fluid extract (TFE) wholly characterised was evaluated for its anti-DPPH activity (IC50 = 44.36 μg/mL) and its reducing power activity (IC50 = 60.87 μg/mL). TFE also exhibited a high ferrous ion-chelating capacity, with an estimated binding constant of 1.085 mol L? 1 while its influence over nitric oxide production in human leucocytes was irregular. At low concentrations, TFE stimulated NO output, but it significantly inhibited it when there was an increase in concentration. TFE was also classified as a non-toxic substance in two toxicity tests: the acute oral toxicity test and the oral mucous irritability test. Further toxicological assays are needed, although results so far suggest that TFE might become a functional dietary supplement.  相似文献

Abstract

A multiple columns and detections liquid chromatography system, including size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and reversed phase liquid chromatography (RPLC), for the analysis of macromolecules and micromolecules in ginseng root and leaf was developed. The columns were connected by two switching valves. Macromolecules were separated on a SEC column (TSK gel SuperMultipore PW-H column, 6?mm× 150?mm, 8?μm) by isocratic elution of 50?mM ammonium acetate aqueous solution, 0.3?mL/min of flow rate and detected by evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD). Micromolecules were analyzed on a Poroshell RP column (Agilent Poroshell 120?SB-Aq column, 4.6?mm × 50?mm, 2.7 µm) with gradient elution of water and acetonitrile, 0.6?mL/min of flow rate and detected by ultraviolet detection (UV). As a result, in the macromolecules chromatogram of ginseng root sample showed two main peaks while only one major peak for ginseng leaf. For micromolecules analysis, 17 compounds (3 nucleosides + 14 saponins) and 17 compounds (3 nucleosides + 1 flavonoid + 13 saponins) were found in ginseng root and leaf, respectively. The developed method is helpful for the quality evaluation of ginseng root and leaf.  相似文献

As a traditional medicinal plant, Juglans mandshurica has been used for the treatment of cancer. Different organs of this plant showed anti‐tumor activity in clinic and laboratory. Comparative identification of constituents in different plant organs is essential for investigation of the relationship between chemical constituents and pharmacological activities. For this aim, the roots, branches, and leaves of J. mandshurica were extracted with 50% v/v methanol and then subjected to ultra‐high performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry analysis conducted under low and high energy. As a result, we have to date identified 111 compounds consisting of 56 tannins, 29 flavonoids, 13 organic acids, 8 naphthalene derivatives, and 5 anthracenes. Five compounds, namely, diquercetin trihydroxy‐truxinoyl‐glucoside, two quercetin kaempferol dihydroxy‐truxinoyl‐glucosides, syringoyl‐tri‐galloyl‐O‐glucose, and dihydroxy‐naphthalene syringoyl‐glucoside, were tentatively identified as new compounds. Of the compounds identified, 76 were found in the root extract, 67 in the branch extract, and 37 in the leaf extract. Only six compounds including four organic acids and two tannins were found in all three extracts. We developed a rapid and sensitive ultra high performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry approach to identify multiple constituents of complex extracts without separation and ion selection. The results presented provide useful information on further research of the bioactive compounds of J. mandshurica .  相似文献

The pepper-tree Schinus molle is an evergreen ornamental plant with various and diversified list of medical uses. In this article we analysed the chemical composition of male and female leaves of this plant during the off-flowering and flowering seasons. The leaf extracts were obtained by using a sequential extraction with solvents of different polarities and the chemical composition was investigated by GC-MS. The results showed a total of twenty-three components, in which elemol is the most abundant constituent followed by bicyclogermacrene, γ-eudesmol, α-eudesmol, β-eudesmol and isocalamendiol. The petroleum ether and diethyl ether extracts from male and female flowering and off-flowering leaves consisted of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons as a major constituent followed by monoterpene hydrocarbons, while the acetone extracts showed a different composition. The obtained results show differences in the chemical composition between male and female and flowering and not flowering.  相似文献

In this work, the extracts obtained with different solvents from the leaves of Rhamnus lycioides subsp. oleoides (L.) Jahand. & Maire were studied for their phytochemical profile and then for their antioxidant and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activities. The phytochemical profiles of the extracts in n-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, methanol, anthraquinone rich and water, showed the presence of different compounds belonging to several classes of natural products such as flavonoids, anthraquinones, saccharides and fatty acids. For what concerns the biological tests, the ethyl acetate, methanol and anthraquinone rich extracts showed the highest activities in both assays due to the high amount of compounds possessing those properties such as flavonoids and anthraquinones. By consequence, these specific extracts of the species may be considered to be potential sources of natural antioxidant and anti-acetylcholinesterasic compounds.  相似文献

Metabolite profile, antioxidant and antinociceptive activities of Syringa vulgaris bark and leaf methanolic extracts were investigated. By means of HPLC-DAD-ESI-TOF and HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS, a total of 33 phenolics were identified, including 15 secoiridoids, 6 phenylpropanoids, 3 flavonoids, 3 lignans and 6 low molecular weight phenols. Validated quantitative analysis show that syringin (2.52%) and rutin (1.13%) are the main phenolic compounds in bark and leaf, respectively. Notable radical scavenging and antinociceptive activities of the bark and leaf extracts were confirmed by in vitro DPPH and ABTS●+ assays and by in vivo hot-plate method in mice, respectively. Our results could lay the scientific basic of future clinical perspectives of lilac bark and leaf.  相似文献

The composition of polyphenols, chlorophylls and carotenoids of eight extracts of Convolvulus althaeoides L. leaves, harvested in two different seasons, winter and spring, and extracted by hot extraction method using four solvents (dichloromethane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and ethanol) with increasing polarity, were evaluated along with their antioxidant and antifungal activities. Qualitative and quantitative variations were observed in the composition based on two different high performance liquid chromatography systems, liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection coupled to either atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry or to electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, permitting the identification of 22 polyphenols, 11 chlorophyll derivatives and 10 carotenoid compounds. Polyphenolic compounds were predominant in extracts from leaves collected in winter, whereas pigments were predominant in the spring collections. Antioxidant activities of the extracts were determined by DPPH radical scavenging method, revealing a half inhibition concentration (IC50) ranging from 0.1369 ± 0.0272 mg g−1 to 0.432 ± 0.0018 mg g−1, with no correlation to seasonal fluctuation. Concerning antifungal assays, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts have been shown to be the most active against dermatophytes (T. rubrum, T. menthagrophytes, M. canis), with inhibiting percentages reaching 100% with 50 mg mL−1. Moreover, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts showed a maximum inhibition potential with minimum inhibitory/fungicidal concentrations ranging from 0.78 to 6.25 mg mL−1 on Candida spp. cultures. The winter collect of these extracts showed an inhibitory effect of 90% on Candida albicans germ tubes formation, at a concentration of 3.1 mg mL−1. In conclusion, seasonality seems to influence the quality and the quantity of natural substances from leaves of C. althaeoides L., which have major importance on the antioxidant and the antifungal effectiveness.  相似文献

Aristolochia tagala Cham. (Aristolochiaceae) is an underexplored medicinal plant traditionally used to treat snakebites, stomachaches, and poisonous bites. In this study, chemical profiling of the petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, and hydro-alcoholic extracts of the plant was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antibacterial activity of the plant was tested against ten bacterial strains using the agar disc diffusion and microdilution method. In total, forty two compounds were identified from the extracts with neophytadiene, palmitic acid, phytol, trans-δ9-octadecenoic acid, phytyl palmitate, phytyl tetradecanoate, ergost-5-en-3-ol, (3beta,24r)-,z,z-8,10-hexadecadien-1-ol, stigmasterol, and tetrapentacontane as major phytoconstituents. The hydro-alcoholic extract possessed maximum total phenolics (52.58 ± 06 mg GAE/g), total flavonoids (48.66 ± 91 QRE/g), total flavanols (67.20 ± 64 QRE/g) and vitamin E content (31.26 ± 0.05 mg ATE/g). For antibacterial activity, hydro-alcoholic extract of Aristolochia tagala effectively controlled the growth of bacterial strains such as Proteus valgaris (26.3 mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (19.33 mm) and the same extract showed notable minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against the growth of bacteria like Escherichia coli (10.93 μg/ml) and Enterobacter aerogenes (43.7 μg/ml). It was determined that, hydro-alcoholic and methanolic extracts Aristolochia tagala leaf found to have a number of bioactive compounds with significant antibacterial activity against the pathogenic bacteria. Further investigations are necessary to isolate and characterize bioactives and to evaluate its therapeutic potential.  相似文献

Abstract

Mulberry (Morus alba L.) root bark (MRB) was extracted using methanol and the extracts were subjected to tests of anti-inflammatory effects. The ethyl acetate fraction demonstrated the best anti-inflammatory effects. Purified compounds, sanggenon B, albanol B and sanggenon D, showed inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and albanol B demonstrated the best anti-inflammatory effects. Regarding the underlying molecular mechanisms, further investigations showed that treatments with Albanol B reduced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and decreased expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). These results would contribute to development of novel anti-inflammatory drugs from MRB.  相似文献

Anethum sowa L. has been used as a spice herb in the Asian and European culinary systems to add flavour and taste. The studied plant has diverse folkloric medicinal value. Present study was designed to isolate phytochemicals from the hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of the roots by various chromatographic techniques. Based on spectral analysis (IR, LC–MS, NMR) the isolated compounds were identified as physcione (1), β-sitosterol (2), stigmasterol (3), 2-oxo-3-propyl-2H-chromene-7-carboxylic acid (4), bergapten (5), 3-ethyl-7-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (6) and graveolone (7). The mentioned compounds have been isolated for the first time from the roots part of the plant. Based on extensive literature review, physcione and bergapten were inferred to exhibit crucial bioactivities including inhibitory efficacy against various forms of cancer. Accordingly, in the present research approach molecular docking investigations of the isolated phytochemicals have been robustly executed with different oncogenes that have been reported to be actively involved in various forms of carcinoma. In silico investigations encompassing molecular docking analysis and drug-likeness profiling was executed to estimate the potential therapeutic tendencies of the phytochemicals targeted towards effective cancer therapy. Current investigation offers meaningful know-how pertaining to potential anticancer activities of the phytochemicals extracted from the roots of Anethum sowa L. and might open up new revenues towards effective drug development against cancer.  相似文献

Daidzin (7-O-glucoside of daidzein) has several pharmacological benefits in herbal remedy, as antioxidant and shown antidipsotropic activity. Hairy root culture of Psoralea corylifolia L. was developed for biomass and enhanced daidzin production using signalling compounds such as jasmonic acid (JA) and acetyl salicylic acid (ASA). Best response of 2.8-fold daidzin (5.09% DW) with 1 μM JA treatment after second week and 7.3-fold (3.43% DW) with 10 μM JA elicitation after 10th week was obtained from hairy roots compared to untreated control. ASA at 10 μM promoted 1.7-fold increase in daidzin (1.49% DW) content after seventh week compared to control (0.83% DW). Addition of 25 μM ASA resulted in 1.44% DW daidzin (1.5-fold increase) with 0.91% DW in control after fifth week and 1.44% DW daidzin (2.3-fold increase) after eighth week when compared to untreated control (0.62% DW). Reduced biomass with increased daidzin content was facilitated by elicited hairy root cultures.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to conduct a comparative evaluation of some biological properties of methanol and water extracts of leaves of five Juniperus taxa growing in Turkey: J. communis L. var. communis (Jcc), J. communis L. var. saxatilis Pall. (Jcs), J. drupacea Labill. (Jd), J. oxycedrus L. subsp. oxycedrus (Joo), J. oxycedrus L. subsp. macrocarpa (Sibth. & Sm.) Ball. (Jom). The antioxidant properties were examined in vitro; both in the DPPH and in the reducing power tests, Joo methanol extract resulted the most active (IC50?=?0.09?±?0.01mg/mL and ASE/mL?=?2.56?±?0.06). In the TBA assay, Jcs methanol extract exhibited the highest activity (IC50?=?4.39?±?0.47?μg/mL). The extracts displayed bacteriostatic activity against Staphylococcus aureus, and Jd methanol extract resulted the most effective (MIC?=?19.53?μg/mL); no effect on the S. aureus biofilm formation was observed. The extracts resulted non-toxic in the Artemia salina lethality bioassay. Finally, the phenolic profile of the methanol extracts was characterized by HPLC-PDA/ESI-MS.  相似文献

Libidibia ferrea (Mart. ex Tul.) L.P. Queiroz is a arboreal species found in the Caatinga from Northeast of Brazil that has been used in popular medicine as an anti-inflammatory, healing, analgesic and for the treatment of respiratory system disorders. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the composition of ethanol extracts from the leaves and inner bark of Libidibia ferrea, as well as to verify its antibacterial activity and as a potential inhibitor of the TetK efflux pump in Staphylococcus aureus strains, in addition to investigating the toxicity of the extracts in a Drosophila melanogaster model. The analysis and quantification of the extracts markers was performed by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). To determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) broth microdilution tests were carried out. The evaluation of efflux pump inhibition was performed by modifying the MIC of antibiotics and ethidium bromide. Mortality and negative geotaxis tests were used to verify the toxicity of extracts on D. melanogaster. Hydrolysable tannins (gallic acid and ellagic acid) and flavonoids were found in HPLC analysis. The extracts did not show antibacterial activity, demonstrating a MIC ≥ 1024 µg/mL, however the ethanolic extract of the leaves decreased the MIC of the antibiotic from 64 µg/mL to 16 µg/mL, but this effect is not associated with the inhibition of the efflux pump. The extracts did not show toxicity in a D. melanogaster model. This is the first study to evaluate the antibacterial activity of L. ferrea extracts on the IS-58 strain of S. aureus, as well as the first to investigate its toxicity using D. melanogaster. From the results, further studies are needed to determine the mechanisms of action of the extract with other antibiotics.  相似文献

A phytochemical investigation of the fruit and root extracts of Micromelum integerrimum resulted in the isolation and identification of a new compound, integerravone (1), together with 23 known compounds (224). Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic methods as well as comparisons made from the literature. Compounds 2, 315, 1718 and 2023 were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against the colon cancer cell line, HCT116. All of them were inactive at 50?µM. Most of the phenolic compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant activity using the DPPH assay. Compounds 14 and 2224 showed antioxidant activity with IC50 values ranging from 24.83-135.05?µM.  相似文献

The present work is focused on the characterisation of the polyphenolic content of an Oxalis pes-caprae L. leaf extract and on the evaluation of its bioactivity with particular interest on its vascular activity and antioxidant potential. The polyphenolic content was characterised by HPLC-DAD and LC-MS/MS. The vascular activity was evaluated according to the influence on the serotonergic and adrenergic systems of the human internal mammary artery (HIMA). Antioxidant and neuroprotective studies were also conducted. Several luteolin and apigenin derivatives were identified as main constituents of the extract, which did not present any contractile effect nor had any effect on the serotonergic system of HIMA. However, it showed antagonistic effect on the adrenergic system, inhibiting the contraction to noradrenaline (reduction of 58.44% of maximum contraction). The extract showed antioxidant activity and standardised luteolin and apigenin derivatives showed neuroprotective potential, particularly homoorientin.  相似文献

Chemical investigation of the root bark of Morus alba led to the isolation of a new flavone, dioxycudraflavone A (1) and a new 2-arylbenzofuran, 5-hydroxyethyl moracin M (2), together with seven known compounds namely sanggenon V (3), morusin (4), morusignin L (5), licoflavone C (6), moracin C (7), alfafuran (8) and mulberrofuran G (9). The structure elucidation of these compounds was based on analyses of spectroscopic data including 1D, 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS. All compounds were evaluated for the α-glucosidase inhibitory and cytotoxic activities. Compounds 24, 8 and 9 exhibited strong α-glucosidase inhibitory activities with IC50 less than 10 μM, while only 4 and 9 showed moderate cytotoxic effects against lung cancer cells.  相似文献

The extracts from sunflower and mustard leaves were separated using SPE-Columns. The mustard seeds were germinated on water (24 h) and subsequently on crude extracts or separate fractions. The heat production rate was measured by isothermal calorimetry at 21°C and changes in seed cotyledons by FT-Raman spectroscopy. Crude extracts strongly inhibited seed germination. The water and ‘methanol’ fractions of mustard and sunflower extracts have a similar influence on the pattern of heat efflux. FT-Raman spectroscopy showed that extracts caused changes in cotyledons mainly in the content of fatty acids, carotenoids and flavonoids. Isothermal calorimetry and Raman spectroscopy are useful for the study of allelopathic interactions.  相似文献

In this study, extracts of the root, branch and leaf parts of Cistus laurifolius L. were prepared using hexane, methylene chloride and ethanol solvents. DNA cleavage, cytotoxic and antioxidant properties of the prepared extracts were then investigated. The cytotoxic properties of the extracts were investigated in A549, DU-145, PNT-1A, MDA-MB231, CRL-4010 and HCT-116 cell lines. Among all prepared extracts, T4 (seed–methylene chloride) extract showed cytotoxic effects on more cancer cell lines compared to other extracts. Antioxidant tests were performed by DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil) radical scavenging and Folin-Ciocalteu methods. In both tests, it was determined that T7 (seed–ethanol) extract has a very strong antioxidant effect (IC50 = 0,000015 μg/ml for the DPPH method). In DNA cleavage studies, the results obtained confirm the protection of DNA from hydroxyl radical damage in the presence of methanolic plant extracts. Consequently, we determined that some of the Cistus laurifolius L. extracts have significant biological properties on the studied cell lines.  相似文献

The antimicrobial activity of acetone, methanol and aqueous extracts of Asphodeline anatolica E. Tuzlaci leaves was evaluated against American type culture collection, food and clinical isolates (Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus including methicillin-resistant strains-MRSA). Biofilm formation, toxicity and characterisation of the polyphenolic content were analysed. The acetone extract demonstrated a higher antibacterial activity against S. aureus including MRSA strains, L. monocytogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa than against other extracts. No effect was observed in biofilm formation. The extracts resulted non-toxic against Artemia salina Leach. The phytochemical screening of extracts indicated that they mainly contained six polyphenols identified as catechin 3-O-gallate, protocatechuic acid, diosmin, rutin, cirsimaritin and kaempferol glucoside. This study is the first report on antimicrobial activity and phenolic content of A. anatolica and contributes to enrich the literature data on the biological properties of this plant. A. anatolica leaves have a potential as source of natural antimicrobial compounds.  相似文献
