α-Chloro Alkyl Phenyl Sulfides are converted with Trimethylsilyl Cyanide, in a reaction catalyzed by SnCl₄, into α-Phenylthio Alkyl Nitriles.

A series of thirteen arylmercury derivatives of α-thiopicolinanilide have been synthesizedand characterized by elemental analysis,IR,~1H NMR and MS.The intramolecular coordination andthe substituent effects on the MS and ~(199)Hg NMR behaviours have been studie6.It has been shownthat a linear correlation exists between the ~(199)Hg chemical shifts and the Hammett-Brown constantsσ~+,and the electron-donating groups cause the chemical shift to move upfield.

Synthesis and properties of α-sulfo carboxyl disodium salt

The synthesis and properties of α-sulfo carboxyl disodium salt (SCDS) were studied in detail for the first time in this paper. SCDS was synthesized via saponification reaction of fatty acid methyl ester sulfonate sodium (MES). FT-IR was used to characterize the molecular structure of target product. The yield of disodium salt was greater than 98% by two-phase titration. The performance of SCDS was studied and was compared with raw materials MES, conventional anionic surfactant AES and nonionic surfactant AEO₉. The result shows SCDS can reduce the surface tension of the solution to 27.89?mN/m at critical micelle concentration (CMC). The wetting ability of SCDS was significantly enhanced with the increase of temperature. The emulsification effect of SCDS on the soybean oil is better than that on the liquid paraffin. Surprisingly, SCDS has a good foamability and foaming stability.     

A Convenient Synthesis of α-Functional Alkyl Vinyl Ketones

Reaction of 2-functional alkyl-1,3-diketones with 30% aqueous formaldehyde using aqueous 6-10M potassium carbonate solution as base, afforded a-functional alkyl vinyl ketones in good yields.

2,4-Diketoesters 2 have first been reported as starting materials for the synthesis of a new class of α-hydroxymethyl-α,β-unsaturated ketones 3. Thus, under heterogeneous liquid–liquid medium in the presence of concentrated aqueous potassium carbonate as a base, both aliphatic and aromatic 2,4-dioxoalkanoates 2 react with aqueous formaldehyde to afford the corresponding ketones 3 in fair to good yields.

Synthesis and photocatalytic properties of α-Fe2O3 nanoellipsoids

A simple and a novel chemical approach was used for the growth of α-Fe₂O₃ nanostructures. Field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis revealed the monodisperse nanoellipsoid morphology of α-Fe₂O₃ nanostructures. The sizes of the short axis and the long axis of these ellipsoids were in the ranges of 50–60 nm and 40–50 nm, respectively. XRD analysis revealed that the product exhibited α-Fe₂O₃ phase. Comprehensive TEM and HRTEM analysis revealed that α-Fe₂O₃ nanoellipsoids are single crystal in nature. The methylene blue decomposition kinetics was studied for different irradiation time. The methylene blue was totally decomposed by increasing the irradiation time up to 220 min.

Synthesis and properties of monoimines of α-diketones, derivatives of 3-imidazoline nitroxides

The reaction of 4-(2R-1-chloro-2-oxoethylidene)-substituted imidazolidine-1-oxyl with sodium azide gives monoimines of -diketones, derivatives of 3-imidazoline nitroxides. Reactions of these products with nitrogen binucleophiles were used to prepare various heterocyclic compounds containing an imidazoline nitroxide moiety.     

Synthesis of α,ω-bis-1,5,3-dithiazepanes and their fungicidal properties

A procedure was developed for preparative synthesis of α,ω-bis-1,5,3-dithiazepanes by heterocyclization of aliphatic α,ω-diamines with N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylmethanediamine and 1,2-ethanedithiol. The fungicidal activity of 1,2-bis(1,5,3-dithiazepan-3-yl)ethane and 3,3′-(3,6-dioxaoctane-1,8-diyl)bis-1,5,3-dithiazepane toward microscopic fungi affecting agricultural plants was studied.     

Synthesis and electrochemical properties of regular hexahedron α-Fe2O3

Synthesis of α-Fe₂O₃ compound with regular hexahedron shape is firstly reported. X-ray diffraction and scan electron microscope are used to characterize the structure and morphology of the prepared sample, respectively. The average edge length of hexahedron is about 0.9 μm. A reaction mechanism has been proposed. The pH value is a crucial factor for the formation and shape of α-Fe₂O₃. Moreover, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and charge-discharge test of α-Fe₂O₃ as anode material in lithium ion batteries are evaluated. The data indicate that the synthesized regular hexahedron α-Fe₂O₃ can show better electrochemical properties than that of the commercial.     

Synthesis of new α-hydroxyphosphonates and α-acetoxyphosphonates

A series of new α-hydroxyphosphonate (5–14) have been synthesized in high yields by reaction of β-chloro-α,β-unsaturated aldehydes (1–4) and trialkyl phosphite in the presence of chlorotrimethylsilane at room temperature under solvent-free conditions. In addition, compounds (5–14) were reacted with acetic anhydride in DBU to give the new α-acetoxyphosphonate derivatives (15–23). All these phosphonates (5–23) were obtained as mixtures of two (E and Z) isomers and fully characterized by multinuclear (¹H, ¹³C, and ³¹P) NMR, IR spectroscopy and HRMS.     

Convenient Electrochemical Method for the Synthesis of α-Bromo Alkyl Aryl Ketones

An electrochemical procedure for the effective α-bromination of alkyl aryl ketones in excellent yield has been reported. The simple experimental procedure, catalyst-free conversion, and excellent yield of monobrominated products are the advantages of this method.
