Using a two-level model of optical transitions, the positive feedback effect observed in the presence of absorption in four-wave mixing in photorefractive crystals has been determined analytically. It is shown that with positive feedback, as the intensity of readout beam increases, the values of diffraction efficiency and intensity of amplified beam also increase. An analysis of the holographic grating amplitude shows that the effective thickness of the grating decreases in this case, but its amplitude increases. The dependences obtained, very important from the practical point of view, show that the optimal thickness of the crystal is different for diffraction efficiency and intensity of the amplified beam, and decreases with increasing readout beam intensity.  相似文献

研究了光折变重存储读出时折射率栅自增强特性与记录晶体厚度、记录时的光强比以及写入的折射率栅振幅之间的关系.结果表明记录晶体的厚度大于某一值,才有自增强效应;较小的参物光强比具有较大的自增强效果,能获得较大的读出衍射效率;自增强读出所能达到的最大衍射效率与写入的栅振幅大小无关,而读出时衍射效率增加的速率与写入的栅振幅成反比.  相似文献

Based on a previously developed two-level model of four-wave interaction in photorefractive crystals, expressions for the amplitude and phase of a transmission holographic grating have been obtained. In the photorefractive wave-mixing system, fluctuation in the signal beam intensity of the photorefractive output with a reflection grating has been analyzed by employing pump feedback method. In this method, fluctuations of the photorefractive wave-mixing process not only induce the intensity fluctuation of the mixing waves but also induce phase fluctuation of the mixing waves. Thus, the phase of the pump and signal beams at the output surface fluctuates in time around a mean value. Using such a positive feedback method of a pump beams, the relative fluctuation in the photorefractive output signal beam intensity with respect to its mean intensity can be minimized significantly without reducing its mean intensity. The factors that control the fluctuation in the signal beam intensity, such as the phase fluctuation of the output pump beam, absorption strength of the material and the feedback reflectivity of the cavity mirrors, on the relative fluctuation of the output signal intensity in the photorefractive wave-mixing systems have been studied in detail. It has been found that the fluctuation of the output signal intensity relative to its mean intensity in the photorefractive wave-mixing system can be suppressed to larger extent by taking lower value of feedback reflectivity of the cavity mirrors which could exist at a higher value of absorption strength of the photorefractive materials.  相似文献

利用Kogelnik单色光在体光栅中衍射效率公式推导出超短脉冲光读出稳态光折变体光栅时的衍射光频谱表达式,并在此基础上导出了脉冲光读出时的总衍射光强及总光强衍射效率.研究发现衍射光的频谱分布、总光强及衍射效率与光栅周期Λ、光栅厚度d和读出光脉冲宽度Δτ有密切的关系.通过调整这些参量,光折变光栅可以对入射的超短脉冲光实现不同程度的滤波作用.该结论可用于超短脉冲的整形研究.  相似文献

Photoconductive dependence of two-beam coupling between the pump beam and the signal beam in photorefractive materials have been analyzed in case of non-degenerate wave mixing under the undepleted pump approximation method. During the two-wave mixing in photorefractive materials, steady state amplification of the signal beam and oscillation characteristics of a single unidirectional ring resonator has been studied. The domination of the two-beam coupling gain over the combined absorption and resonator losses such as Fresnel reflections from the crystal and imperfect mirrors builds up unidirectional oscillation. The buildup of such an oscillation leads to a saturation of the gain, which can be explained in terms of the photorefractive phase-shift. The existence of this phase-shift between the photorefractive index grating and the illumination intensity pattern, which is of characteristic of the photorefractive effect, leads to an energy transfer between the two beams. For a single unidirectional ring resonators, the effects of photoconductivity of the materials, two-beam energy coupling coefficient, dielectric constant, crystal thickness, and material's absorption coefficient on amplification of the two-beam coupling gain and photorefractive phase-shifts of the signal beam have also been studied in detail. It has been found that amplification of the signal beam and phase-shift can be enhanced by taking the photorefractive crystal having higher photoconductivity and lower dielectric constant, which improves performance of the resonators.  相似文献

Diffraction efficiency as a function of the applied electric field for the non-linear regime has been calculated by solving numerically the beam coupling equations. The refractive index variation used in the beam coupling equations was calculated directly from the material rate equations via the total space charge field. The diffraction efficiency of the holograms recorded in photorefractive media is not only a function of the applied external electric field but also a function of crystal thickness, diffusion field, reduced fringe contrast modulation ratio and absorption coefficient of the materials. The effects of these parameters on the efficiency of the holograms have been studied in details. In the absence of the external applied field, it is found that the diffraction efficiency of the holograms could be maximized for a thinner photorefractive crystal having lower absorption coefficient and higher value of diffusion field, which could exist at a much lower value of reduced fringe contrast modulation ratio of the index grating. More efficient holograms can be recorded in the presence of the externally applied electric field as compared to the case of no external field.  相似文献

在Ce:KNSBN光折变类光纤晶体中,用不同偏振的读出光控制衍射光强的大小从而实现光折变光开关的开-关功能.实验结果表明e光读出时的光栅衍射效率是o光读出的310倍,而且衍射效率比不随写入光光强比的变化而变化.与块状晶体做了比较,并用理论进行了分析,在光折变类光纤中的衍射效率比是块状晶体的10倍,光折变类光纤晶体有着更好的光开关性能.  相似文献

We investigate the diffraction properties of multiple-superimposed index gratings from a vector synthetic viewpoint using coupled wave analysis with Bragg and non-Bragg readout. The vector synthetic gratings consist of two volume-index gratings with different grating wave vectors, which can be obtained in photorefractive materials, in optical fibers or in Bragg cells with two driving acoustic waves. This structure can realize beam splitting, beam combining, and beam cross coupling, etc. Analytic expressions for the diffraction efficiency as well as the amplitude of the waves involved are obtained. A general theory of the two-beam coupling between a pump beam and a signal beam in photorefractive materials is presented. The coupled wave equations describing the non-linear two beam coupling are derived, based on Maxwell's wave equation. The coupled equation for the intensities of the two beams in the photorefractive crystals with the absorbing properties have been derived analytically. The intensity of the signal beam increases with the increasing crystal thickness, reaches a maximum and then decreases. The influence of energy beam coupling coefficient, oscillation frequency shift, crystal thickness, absorption coefficient and the input beam intensity ratio on the signal beam intensity have been studied in details. The effect of the photoconductivity of the materials on the intensities of the two beams in both the co-directional as well as contra-directional two beam coupling cases have been studied.  相似文献

利用变分方法求解了小光强光折变非线性薛定谔方程,得到了高斯光束在外加正偏压光折变晶体中的演化特性,以及高斯光束宽度压缩与展宽的动态振荡规律,给出了高斯光束的宽度、振幅和波前曲率的表达式,研究了势函数与光束宽度的关系.结果表明,小光强高斯光束在正偏压光折变晶体中传播时,其宽度和振幅将经历周期地变化或者展宽发散,在一定条件下高斯光束在晶体中可以形状不变地传播,形成“高斯孤子”,这些特性在工程实践中具有很高的实用价值. 关键词: 高斯孤子 高斯光束 变分方法 光折变非线性方程  相似文献

A dynamic incoherent-to-coherent converter using the photorefractive fanning effect is demonstrated in a BaTiO(3):Ce crystal, and high-quality positive replicas of the incoherent image are obtained with a resolution of 32line pairs/mm. In this method the incoherent image-bearing beam modulates the transmission intensity of the coherent beam directly, and no readout beam is required. When the intensity ratio of the incoherent beam to the coherent beam is smaller than 5, the transmission intensity of the coherent beam increases almost linearly with increased intensity of the incoherent beam.  相似文献

A liquid crystal polarization grating (LCPG) is proposed that amplifies the steering angle of a liquid crystal optical phased array for non-mechanical beam steering, taking advantage of its high steering efficiency under normal incidence. However, oblique incidence may play an important role in the overall steering efficiency. The effect of oblique incidence on steering efficiency of a LCPG was analyzed by numerically solving the extended Jones matrix and considering propagation crosstalk. The results indicate that the outgoing laser beam is amplitude-modulated under the effect of oblique incidence and behaves as a sinusoidal-modulated amplitude grating, which diffracts certain energies to non-blazed orders. Over-oblique incidence may even eliminate the steering effect of the incident beam. The modulation depth of the induced amplitude grating was found to be proportional to the product of sinusoidal value of oblique incidence angle and the LC layer thickness, and inversely proportional to the periodic pitch length of the LCPG. Both in-plane incidence and out-of-plane incidence behave similarly to influence the steering efficiency. Finally, the overall steering efficiency for cascaded LCPGs was analyzed and a difference of up to 11 % steering efficiency can be induced between different LCPG configurations, even without considering the over-oblique incidence effect. Both the modulation depth and final steering efficiency can be optimized by varying the LC birefringence and layer thickness.  相似文献

Sinusoidal intensity oscillations of the phase conjugated wave reflected from a self-pumped photorefractive BaTiO3 crystal have been observed. The oscillation amplitude is shown to be increased by providing optical feedback of the light scattered during grating formation. The oscillation frequency ? can be tuned from 0.024 Hz to 2 Hz by changing the light intensity I0 of the object beam from 0.7 W/cm2 to 100 W/cm2. A power law ? ∝ Iβ0 ∝ σ with β = 0.89 was observed over this range of intensities (σ = photoconductivity). Transitions to a chaotically oscillating or a stable reflecting state have been observed at higher power levels or with increased optical feedback. An additional pump beam near the entrance face of the signal beam can decrease the build-up time for the self-pumping process by a factor of five or more.  相似文献

本文推导了光折变晶体角度编码多重全息存储中写入均匀光栅时的曝光时间递推公式.分析了散射效应对光栅写入时间常数的影响和写入光耦合对光栅振幅的影响,给出了两种因素影响下曝光时间计算的修正递推公式.数值计算结果表明,按照这种修正公式计算所得多重存储中各幅全息光栅振幅不仅均匀性好,而且振幅相对较大,这种曝光方法有利于提高晶体的存储容量.实验中以递推公式所得时间进行曝光记录,在厚度为0.6mm的Fe:LiNbO3晶体中采用角度编码很容易存储了30幅全息图.  相似文献

The photorefractive effect was observed in Fe-doped semi-insulating GaN. We measured the two-beam coupling constant and the grating formation time as a function of pump intensity at a wavelength of 458 nm in reflection geometry. The photorefractive gain coefficient was 0.39 cm−1, and the grating formation time was 7 ms at a pump intensity of 1.0 W/cm2. Besides the refractive index grating, the contribution of an absorption grating was also observed in a two-wave mixing experiment. The coupling constant of the absorption grating was negative and increased with the pump intensity. The origin of the absorption grating was attributed to light-intensity-dependent photochromism.  相似文献

We present an efficient photorefractive volume hologram recording technique with a pulsed signal beam and continuous reference-beam illumination. The grating envelope can be simply controlled by manipulation of the duty cycle of the signal beam. Thus, for any grating coupling strength and different initial reference-signal intensity ratios, the diffraction efficiency can be maximized with this technique and can be greatly increased in comparison with that of the conventional recording technique.  相似文献
