We observe resonant Rayleigh scattering of light from quantum Hall bilayers at Landau level filling factor nu = 1. The effect arises below 1 Kelvin when electrons are in the incompressible quantum Hall phase with strong interlayer correlations. Marked changes in the Rayleigh scattering signal in response to application of an in-plane magnetic field indicate that the unexpected temperature dependence is linked to formation of a nonuniform electron fluid close to the phase transition towards the compressible state. These results demonstrate a new realm of study in which resonant Rayleigh scattering methods probe quantum phases of electrons in semiconductor heterostructures.  相似文献

Motion of 57Fe can be observed on a scale of nsec to μsec through nuclear resonant forward scattering of synchrotron radiation. Additional information is obtained by measuring simultaneously incoherent nuclear resonant scattering at nonzero angles. In a glass, one measures the Lamb-Mößbauer factor; in the viscous phase, structural relaxation is observed directly. We apply the method to ferrocene / dibutylphthalate between 140 and 205 K. The mean relaxation times do not follow the observed temperature dependence of other, macroscopic relaxation measurements. We attribute this to a strong wavenumber dependence of the relaxation time. The prospects of nuclear resonant scattering for studying the dynamics of viscous liquids are discussed.  相似文献

Fermi-edge absorption theory predicting the spectrum A(ω) ∝ ω(-2δ(0)/π+δ(0)92)/π2) relies on the assumption that scattering phase δ(0) is frequency independent. The dependence of δ(0) on ω becomes crucial near the resonant condition, where the phase changes abruptly by π. In this limit, because of the finite time spent by electron on a resonant level, the scattering is dynamic. We incorporate the finite time delay into the theory, solve the Dyson equation with a modified kernel, and find that, near the resonance, A(ω) behaves as ω(-3/4)|lnω|. Scattering off the core hole becomes resonant in 1D and 2D in the presence of an empty subband above the Fermi level; then a deep hole splits off a level from the bottom of this subband. Fermi-edge absorption in the regime when resonant level transforms into a Kondo peak is discussed.  相似文献

Comprehensive x-ray scattering studies, including resonant scattering at Mn L, Tb L, and M edges, were performed on single crystals of TbMn2O5 for crystallographic data to elucidate the nature of its commensurate and incommensurate phases. The scattering results provide direct evidence of symmetry lowering to the ferroelectric phase driven by magnetically induced lattice modulations and show the presence of multiple magnetic orders. The competing orders under spin-frustrated geometry are believed to cause discommensuration and result in the commensurate-to-incommensurate phase transition around 24 K. It is proposed that the low temperature incommensurate phase consists of commensurate domains separated by antiphase domain walls which change both signs of spontaneous polarizations and x-ray scattering amplitudes for forbidden reflections.  相似文献

The process of nuclear resonant scattering resonant scattering is considered on the basis of an optical model. The coherent properties coherent properties of the radiation and scattering mechanism are described. The complementary pictures of γ-ray resonant scattering in energy and time domains are presented. Special attention is paid to scattering of a γ quantum by an ensemble of nuclei. The central concept of the theory of nuclear resonant scattering, the nuclear exciton, nuclear exciton as a delocalized nuclear excitation, is described in detail. It is shown that both temporal and spatial aspects of coherence play a crucial role in the evolution of the nuclear exciton. A large place is given to the analysis of resonant scattering of synchrotron radiation by nuclear ensembles.

The intermediate-valence state of Sm in Sm1?xYxS has been investigated in terms of the d.c. and optical scattering time of the conduction electrons. Strong resonant scattering in the collapsed metallic phase is attributed to the pinning of the Fermi level EF within a mixed-configuration resonant state. The composition- and temperature dependent electronic phase transition is found to occur when EF reaches the resonant state.  相似文献

We use scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to study the properties of magnetic Co adatoms on noble metal surfaces at 6 K. Due to spin-flip scattering of the substrate electrons at the impurity the many-body Kondo state forms. This state is characterized by an energy, the Kondo temperature TK. We measure TK of adatom systems and a resonant scattering phase shift locally and are thus able to discuss the coupling of the Co adatom to the metal electronic system. From the resonant scattering phase shift of the surface-state electrons scattering off a Co adatom on Ag(111), we find that the coupling to the surface state is rather weak. On the other hand, increasing the number of nearest neighbor substrate atoms increases the coupling of a Co adatom to the host metal and increases TK. This shows the dominant character of the coupling of the Co atom to the bulk states of the substrate crystal. PACS 72.10.Fk; 68.37,Ef; 72.15.Qm  相似文献

在相对论平均场理论框架下, 利用复标度方法研究了 Zr 同位素的单粒子共振问题. 以 122Zr 为例, 演示了复标度方法确定共振态的具体步骤, 确定了 122Zr 所有可能共振态的能量和宽度, 以及相应共振态的复标度波函数, 并与耦合常数的解析延拓方法进行了比较.在此基础上, 进一步系统研究了 Zr 同位素的共振问题, 获得了与散射相移方法一致的结果.  相似文献

We report both experimental and theoretical studies on x-ray absorption measured in the resonant Auger scattering mode of gas phase carbon monoxide near the O1s-->2pi region. Both experiment and theory display a crucial difference between the x-ray absorption profiles obtained in the conventional and resonant scattering modes. Lifetime vibrational interference is the main source of the difference. It is demonstrated that such interference, which arises from a coherent excitation to overlapping intermediate levels, ruins the idea for obtaining x-ray absorption spectra in a lifetime broadening free regime.  相似文献

Experimental results and their theoretical explanation are reviewed for fundamentals of anisotropic resonant X-ray scattering. Resonant scattering depends on X-ray polarization, i.e. the scattering reflects anisotropic environment of atoms in crystal. The polarization anisotropy in atomic scattering can excite the forbidden Bragg reflections. Studying this type of forbidden reflections we can distinguish electronic orbitals of specific symmetry. This method is very useful for studying local electronic states in crystal. We reveal detailed property of the anisotropic scattering, effect of quadrupole transition, thermal motion, magnetic scattering and so on. Especially successful examples are given in detail: observation of phase of the scattering factor, the hybridization of states with different parity, local chirality of atom in centrosymmetric crystals, thermal-motion-induced resonant reflections, etc.  相似文献

Evaluation methods for data obtained by nuclear resonant scattering techniques are discussed. The CONUSS software package for the interpretation of time or energy spectra from coherent elastic nuclear resonant scattering, i.e., forward scattering and Bragg/Laue scattering, is presented. We systematically estimate the resonant tunneling transit time from the high-frequency characteristics of resonant tunneling transistors. It is found that the transit time across an InGaAs/InAlAs resonant tunneling structure is more than one order of magnitude shorter than that for GaAs/AlAs with the same barrier layer thickness. In addition, the obtained times agree reasonably well with calculated phase time. It is probably the elastic resonance width and not the inelastic scattering effect that mainly determines the resonant tunneling transit time.  相似文献

The damage induced by radiation in cells is currently described via low-energy attachment of electrons produced in the biological medium by the primary radiation. Therefore the corresponding metastable anionic states are obtained in this work from multichannel quantum calculations which, in the present study, involve β-D-ribose and β-D-deoxyribose molecular fragments from RNA and DNA structures. The scattering attributes associated with the resonant processes are derived from the computed total, elastic cross sections by means of a high-level Breit-Wigner analysis of the calculated phase shifts. The present procedure is shown to provide a powerful tool for extracting the resonance parameters from the scattering data even in the presence of broad, overlapping resonances which typically occur in the resonant dynamics of complicated biosystems after electron attachment effects.  相似文献

The theoretical advantages of ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy for particle size are currently not fully utilized. Especially in the region of larger particles, there is a lack of experimental confirmation of applicable models which may be used to infer particle sizes from measured attenuation spectra. With the present work, an attempt is made to supply experimental data, obtained with a commercially available ultrasonic attenuation spectrometer, and model calculations, which are based on the resonant scattering theory. It is shown that measured attenuation results for various combinations of disperse and continuous phase for both polydisperse emulsions and suspensions are reproducible by calculation. The approach is further examined for suspensions of porous particles. Here, the resonant scattering approach is combined with the Biot model for poroelasticity to obtain attenuation results with several fractions of titania aggregates, differing in particle size and pore diameter. The results indicate that the theory of resonant scattering is a valid approach if applied to particle size characterization in the large particle limit.  相似文献

On the Theory of Resonant Scattering at Impurity Centres in Solids For the case of a weak exciting field general formulae for describing both the stationary and the non-stationary behaviour of resonant scattering are derived. The 222 and 600 reflections near the germanium absorption K edge were studied on the Kurchatov synchrotron radiation source. The energy spectrum of the 222 reflection is caused by the interference of the weak nonresonant and purely resonant contributions to the tensor atomic factor, whereas the 600 reflection is purely resonant. The energy dependence of the magnitude and phase of the resonant contribution to the scattering amplitude was determined from a change in the interference pattern. The numerical simulation of the energy spectra of reflections with the inclusion of the dipole-quadrupole and thermally induced contributions shows that the latter is dominant at room temperature.  相似文献

In the frame of the Born approximation we theoretically investigate resonant scattering of an electron by a muon in the field of elliptically polarized electromagnetic wave in the general relativistic case. It is studied kinematics of a scattering of an electron in resonant region. It is derived the expressions for the amplitude and the cross-section of the resonant scattering of an electron by a muon when the invariant intensity parameter of the laser field is small (ηe ≪1). It is demonstrated that the resonant cross-section of a scattering may be several orders of magnitude higher than the cross-section of a scattering in the absence of the external field.  相似文献

Off-specular neutron scattering from layered resonant systems has been studied. As an example, tri-layer neutron waveguides have been investigated experimentally by neutron reflectometry. In such systems, the neutron wave function is strongly localized in the guiding layer. The resonant states in the total reflection region lead to enhanced off-specular scattering from the interface roughness. The relation between the resonant states and off-specular scattering is discussed.  相似文献
