Biologically Active Substances from Cacalia hastate Leaves. 1. Carbohydrates from Leaves and Their Hypoglycemic Activity

Leaves of Cacalia hastate L. (Asteraceae) were composed of free sugars, water-soluble polysaccharides (arabinogalactan type), pectinic substances, hemicelluloses, and cellulose. The hypoglycemic activity was determined for the water-soluble polysaccharides and pectinic substances.

Antiradical and Antioxidant Activity of Biologically Active Carboxylic Acids

The antioxidant and antiradical activity of a series of biologically active carboxylic acids were studied, their effectiveness series were constructed, and optimal concentrations for inhibition of active oxygen formation were found. It is shown that the mechanism of the antioxidant action of these acids can be studied by their effect on different stages of oxygen reduction.

New Biologically Active N-(Tetrahydrobenzothienopyrimidin-4-YL)-Amino Acids,Thiourethane, Sulfonamides and Related Compounds

Abstract

Some derivatives of thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine containing amino acids 3a-i, imidazoles 4a-f, isothiocyanate 5, thiourethane 6, triazine 8, pyrimidine 10, sulphonamides 13a-d, 14, pyrazole 16 and pyrazolone 17 were synthesized. The structural assignments of the new compounds were based on analytical, spectroscopic measurements and chemical reactions. Some of the obtained compounds showed interesting antimicrobial activities.     

Adsorption of Biologically Active Carboxylic Acids on a Copper Electrode

The adsorption of salicylic, acetylsalicylic, ascorbic, and nicotinic acids on a copper electrode has been studied in the cathodic range of potentials. These acids are adsorbed as either anions or neutral molecules, depending on the electrode potential. The characteristics of the adsorption process are connected with the structure and degree of dissociation of the acids and also on the presence of oxygen in the solution.
