π–π stacking interaction is well-known to be one of the weak interactions. Its importance in the stabilization of protein structures and functionalization has been reported for various systems. We have focused on a single copper oxidase, galactose oxidase, which has the π–π stacking interaction of the alkylthio-substituted phenoxyl radical with the indole ring of the proximal tryptophan residue and catalyzes primary alcohol oxidation to give the corresponding aldehyde. This stacking interaction has been considered to stabilize the alkylthio-phenoxyl radical, but further details of the interaction are still unclear. In this review, we discuss the effect of the π–π stacking interaction of the alkylthio-substituted phenoxyl radical with an indole ring.  相似文献

In 1996, we reported that silyl groups of 9,10-disilylanthracenes significantly affect the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra. Although the results indicate that the silyl groups have strong electronic effects on anthracene, the details of the mechanisms responsible for this have not yet been clarified. This article describes the analysis of the UV/Vis and fluorescence spectra of 9,10-bis(diisopropylsilyl)anthracene by theoretical calculations. This study reveals that π conjugation of anthracene is extended by cooperation of σ–π and σ*–π* conjugation between the silyl groups and anthracene. This effect increases the transition moment of the π–π* transition of anthracene. As a result, the molecular extinction coefficient of the 1La band and the fluorescence quantum yield are increased.  相似文献

The deprotonation of propargylic C–H bonds for subsequent functionalization typically requires stoichiometric metal alkyl or amide reagents. In addition to the undesirable generation of stoichiometric metallic waste, these conditions limit the functional group compatibility and versatility of this functionalization strategy and often result in regioisomeric mixtures. In this article, we report the use of dicarbonyl cyclopentadienyliron(ii) complexes for the generation of propargylic anion equivalents toward the direct electrophilic functionalization of propargylic C–H bonds under mild, catalytic conditions. This technology was applied to the direct conversion of C–H bonds to C–C bonds for the synthesis of several functionalized scaffolds through a one-pot cross dehydrogenative coupling reaction with tetrahydroisoquinoline and related privileged heterocyclic scaffolds. A series of NMR studies and deuterium-labelling experiments indicated that the deprotonation of the propargylic C–H bond was the rate-determining step when a Cp*Fe(CO)2-based catalyst system was employed.

[Cp*Fe(CO)2]+ facilitates the α-deprotonation of unsaturated C–C bond for propargylic and allylic C–H functionalization. Mechanistic studies reveal insights into the superior performance of the electron-rich and hindered ligand on iron.  相似文献

The implementation of machine learning models has brought major changes in the decision-making process for materials design. One matter of concern for the data-driven approaches is the lack of negative data from unsuccessful synthetic attempts, which might generate inherently imbalanced datasets. We propose the application of the one-class classification methodology as an effective tool for tackling these limitations on the materials design problems. This is a concept of learning based only on a well-defined class without counter examples. An extensive study on the different one-class classification algorithms is performed until the most appropriate workflow is identified for guiding the discovery of emerging materials belonging to a relatively small class, that being the weakly bound polyaromatic hydrocarbon co-crystals. The two-step approach presented in this study first trains the model using all the known molecular combinations that form this class of co-crystals extracted from the Cambridge Structural Database (1722 molecular combinations), followed by scoring possible yet unknown pairs from the ZINC15 database (21 736 possible molecular combinations). Focusing on the highest-ranking pairs predicted to have higher probability of forming co-crystals, materials discovery can be accelerated by reducing the vast molecular space and directing the synthetic efforts of chemists. Further on, using interpretability techniques a more detailed understanding of the molecular properties causing co-crystallization is sought after. The applicability of the current methodology is demonstrated with the discovery of two novel co-crystals, namely pyrene-6H-benzo[c]chromen-6-one (1) and pyrene-9,10-dicyanoanthracene (2).

Machine learning using one class classification on a database of existing co-crystals enables the identification of co-formers which are likely to form stable co-crystals, resulting in the synthesis of two co-crystals of polyaromatic hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Interactions of anions with simple aromatic compounds have received growing attention due to their relevancy in various fields. Yet, the anion–π interactions are generally very weak, for example, there is no favorable anion–π interaction for the halide anion F? on the simplest benzene surface unless the H‐atoms are substituted by the highly negatively charged F. In this article, we report a type of particularly strong anion–π interactions by investigating the adsorptions of three halide anions, that is, F?, Cl?, and Br?, on the hydrogenated‐graphene flake using the density functional theory. The anion–π interactions on the graphene flake are shown to be unexpectedly strong compared to those on simple aromatic compounds, for example, the F?‐adsorption energy is as large as 17.5 kcal/mol on a graphene flake (C84H24) and 23.5 kcal/mol in the periodic boundary condition model calculations on a graphene flake C113 (the supercell containing a F? ion and 113 carbon atoms). The unexpectedly large adsorption energies of the halide anions on the graphene flake are ascribed to the effective donor–acceptor interactions between the halide anions and the graphene flake. These findings on the presence of very strong anion–π interactions between halide ions and the graphene flake, which are disclosed for the first time, are hoped to strengthen scientific understanding of the chemical and physical characteristics of the graphene in an electrolyte solution. These favorable interactions of anions with electron‐deficient graphene flakes may be applicable to the design of a new family of neutral anion receptors and detectors. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

[1.1.1]Propellane is the ubiquitous precursor to bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs), motifs of high value in pharmaceutical and materials research. The classical Lewis representation of this molecule places an inter-bridgehead C–C bond along its central axis; ‘strain relief’-driven cleavage of this bond is commonly thought to enable reactions with nucleophiles, radicals and electrophiles. We propose that this broad reactivity profile instead derives from σ–π-delocalization of electron density in [1.1.1]propellane. Using ab initio and DFT calculations, we show that its reactions with anions and radicals are facilitated by increased delocalization of electron density over the propellane cage during addition, while reactions with cations involve charge transfer that relieves repulsion inside the cage. These results provide a unified framework to rationalize experimental observations of propellane reactivity, opening up opportunities for the exploration of new chemistry of [1.1.1]propellane and related strained systems that are useful building blocks in organic synthesis.

The dual XH (OH and CH) hydrogen-bond-donating property of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) and the strong dual XH–π interaction with arenes were firstly disclosed by theoretical studies. Here, the high accuracy post-Hartree–Fock methods, CCSD(T)/CBS, reveal the interaction energy of HFIP/benzene complex (−7.22 kcal/mol) and the contribution of the electronic correlation energy in the total interaction energy. Strong orbital interaction between HFIP and benzene was found by using the DFT method in this work to disclose the dual XH–π intermolecular orbital interaction of HFIP with benzene-forming bonding and antibonding orbitals resulting from the orbital symmetry of HFIP. The density of states and charge decomposition analyses were used to investigate the orbital interactions. Isopropanol (IP), an analogue of HFIP, and chloroform (CHCl3) were studied to compare them with the classical OH–π, and non-classical CH–π interactions. In addition, the influence of the aggregating effect of HFIP, and the numbers of substituted methyl groups in benzene rings were also studied. The interaction energies of HFIP with the selected 24 common organic compounds were calculated to understand the role of HFIP as solvent or additive in organic transformation in a more detailed manner. A single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of hexafluoroisopropyl benzoate further disclosed and confirmed that the CH of HFIP shows the non-classical hydrogen-bond-donating behavior.  相似文献

Noncovalent π stacking of aromatic molecules is a universal form of noncovalent interactions normally occurring on planar structures (such as aromatic molecules and graphene) based on sp2-hybridized atoms. Here we reveal a new type of noncovalent surface–π stacking unusually occurring between aromatic groups and peroxide-modified titania (PMT) nanosheets, which can drive versatile aromatic adsorptions. We experimentally explore the underlying electronic-level origin by probing the perturbed changes of unoccupied Ti 3d states with near-edge X-ray absorption fine structures (NEXAFS), and find that aromatic groups can vertically attract π electrons in the surface peroxo-Ti states and increase their delocalization regions. Our discovery updates the concept of noncovalent π-stacking interactions by extending the substrates from carbon-based structures to a transition metal oxide, and presents an approach to exploit the surface chemistry of nanomaterials based on noncovalent interactions.

A new type of noncovalent surface–π stacking interaction occurring on a transition metal oxide, titania, is reported, which is different from the traditional forms on sp2-hybridized planar structures like graphene.  相似文献

A dual catalytic decarboxylative allylation and benzylation method for the construction of new C(sp3)–C(sp3) bonds between readily available carboxylic acids and functionally diverse carbonate electrophiles has been developed. The new process is mild, operationally simple, and has greatly improved upon the efficiency and generality of previous methodology. In addition, new insights into the reaction mechanism have been realized and provide further understanding of the harnessed reactivity.

A series of N-pyridyl ureas bearing 1,2,4- (1a, 2a, and 3a) and 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety (1b, 2b, 3b) was prepared and characterized by HRMS, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, as well as X-ray diffraction. The inspection of the crystal structures of (1–3)a,b and the Hirshfeld surface analysis made possible the recognition of the (oxadiazole)···(pyridine) and (oxadiazole)···(oxadiazole) interactions. The presence of these interactions was confirmed theoretically by DFT calculations, including NCI analysis for experimentally determined crystal structures as well as QTAIM analysis for optimized equilibrium structures. The preformed database survey allowed the verification of additional examples of relevant (oxadiazole)···π interactions both in Cambridge Structural Database and in Protein Data Bank, including the cocrystal of commercial anti-HIV drug Raltegravir.  相似文献

The demand for fast-charging metal-ion batteries underlines the importance of anodes that work at high currents with no risk of dendrite formation. NiBTA, a one-dimensional Ni-based polymer derived from benzenetetramine (BTA), is a recently proposed promising material for safe fast-charging batteries. However, its charge–discharge mechanisms remained unclear and controversial. Here we solve the controversies by providing the first rigorous study using a combination of advanced theoretical and experimental techniques, including operando and ex situ X-ray diffraction, operando Raman spectroscopy and ex situ X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES). In safe potential ranges (0.5–2.0 V vs. M+/M, M = Li, Na or K), NiBTA offers high capacities, fast charge–discharge kinetics, high cycling stability and compatibility with various cations (Li+, Na+, K+). In the Na- and K-based cells, fast bulk faradaic processes are manifested for partially reduced states. Atomistic simulations explain the fast kinetics by facile rotations and displacements of the macromolecules in the crystal, opening channels for fast ion insertion. The material undergoes distinct crystal structure rearrangements in the Li-, Na- and K-based systems, which explains different electrochemical features. At the molecular level, the charge storage mechanism involves reversible two-electron reduction of the repeating units accompanied by a change of the absorption bandgap. The reversible reduction involves filling of the orbitals localized at the ligand moieties. No reduction of NiBTA beyond two electrons per repeating unit is observed at potentials down to 0 V vs. M+/M.

Charge storage mechanisms of NiBTA, a 1D π–d conjugated polymer derived from benzenetetramine, are studied in Li-, Na- and K-based batteries with a set of advanced experimental and computational methods.  相似文献

Halogenation of a twisted three-fold symmetric hydrocarbon with F, Cl or Br leads to strong modulation of triplet–triplet annihilation and dual phosphorescence, one thermally activated and the other very persistent and visible by eye, with different relative contributions depending on the halide. The room temperature phosphorescence is highly unusual given the absence of lone-pair-contributing heteroatoms. The interplay between the spin–orbit coupling matrix elements and the spatial configuration of the triplet state induces efficient intersystem crossing and thus room temperature phosphorescence even without relying on heteroatomic electron lone pairs. A ninefold increase of the ISC rate after introduction of three bromine atoms is accompanied by a much higher 34-fold increase of phosphorescence rate.

Twisted π-systems investigation showed a very unusual HAE, influencing independently the ISC and the dual phosphorescence emission, one being very persistent at room temperature and visible by eye in powder.  相似文献

We revisit “classical” issues in multiply bonded systems between main groups elements, namely the structural distortions that may occur at the multiple bonds and that lead, e.g., to trans-bent and bond-length alternated structures. The focus is on the role that orbital hybridization and electron correlation play in this context, here analyzed with the help of simple models for σ- and π-bonds, numerically exact solutions of Hubbard Hamiltonians and first principles (density functional theory) investigations of an extended set of systems.  相似文献

Anion…π interactions are newly recognized weak supramolecular forces which are relevant to many types of electron‐deficient aromatic substrates. Being less competitive with respect to conventional hydrogen bonding, anion…π interactions are only rarely considered as a crystal‐structure‐defining factor. Their significance dramatically increases for polyoxometalate (POM) species, which offer extended oxide surfaces for maintaining dense aromatic/inorganic stacks. The structures of tetrakis(caffeinium) μ12‐silicato‐tetracosa‐μ2‐oxido‐dodecaoxidododecatungsten trihydrate, (C8H11N4O2)4[SiW12O40]·3H2O, (1), and tris(theobrominium) μ12‐phosphato‐tetracosa‐μ2‐oxido‐dodecaoxidododecatungsten ethanol sesquisolvate, (C7H9N4O2)3[PW12O40]·1.5C2H5OH, (2), support the utility of anion…π interactions as a special kind of supramolecular synthon controlling the structures of ionic lattices. Both caffeinium [(HCaf)+ in (1)] and theobrominium cations [(HTbr)+ in (2)] reveal double stacking patterns at both axial sides of the aromatic frameworks, leading to the generation of anion…π…anion bridges. The latter provide the rare face‐to‐face linkage of the anions. In (1), every square face of the metal–oxide cuboctahedra accepts the interaction and the above bridges yield flat square nets, i.e. {(HCaf+)2[SiW12O40]4?}n. Two additional cations afford single stacks only and they terminate the connectivity. Salt (2) retains a two‐dimensional (2D) motif of square nets, with anion…π…anion bridges involving two of the three (HTbr)+ cations. The remaining cations complete a fivefold anion…π environment of [PW12O40]3?, acting as terminal groups. This single anion…π interaction is influenced by the specific pairing of (HTbr)+ cations by double amide‐to‐amide hydrogen bonding. Nevertheless, invariable 2D patterns in (1) and (2) suggest the dominant role of anion…π interactions as the structure‐governing factor, which is applicable to the construction of noncovalent linkages involving Keggin‐type oxometalates.  相似文献

In this study, charged π-electronic species are observed to develop stacking structures based on electrostatic and dispersion forces. iπ–iπ Interaction, defined herein, functions for the stacking structures consisting of charged π-electronic species and is in contrast to conventional π–π interaction, which mainly exhibits dispersion force, for electronically neutral π-electronic species. Establishing the concept of iπ–iπ interaction requires the evaluation of interionic interactions for π-electronic ion pairs. Free base (metal-free) and diamagnetic metal complexes of 5-hydroxy-10,15,20-tris(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin were synthesized, producing π-electronic anions upon the deprotonation of the hydroxy unit. Coexisting cations in the ion pairs with porphyrin anions were introduced as the counter species of the hydroxy anion as a base for commercially available cations and as ion-exchanged species, via Na+ in the intermediate ion pairs, for synthesized π-electronic cations. Solid-state ion-pairing assemblies were constructed for the porphyrin anions in combination with aliphatic tetrabutylammonium (TBA+) and π-electronic 4,8,12-tripropyl-4,8,12-triazatriangulenium (TATA+) cations. The ordered arrangements of charged species, with the contributions of the charge-by-charge and charge-segregated modes, were observed according to the constituent charged building units. The energy decomposition analysis (EDA) of single-crystal packing structures revealed that electrostatic and dispersion forces are important factors in stabilizing the stacking of π-electronic ions. Furthermore, crystal-state absorption spectra of the ion pairs were correlated with the assembling modes. Transient absorption spectroscopy of the single crystals revealed the occurrence of photoinduced electron transfer from the π-electronic anion in the charge-segregated mode.

π-Electronic ion pairs comprising porphyrin-based π-electronic anions have exhibited characteristic assembling modes and resulting electronic properties such as solid-state absorption and photoinduced electron transfer.  相似文献

Chirality is one of the most important types of steric information in nature. In addition to central chirality, axial chirality has been catching more and more attention from scientists. However, although much attention has recently been paid to the creation of axial chirality and the chirality transfer of allenes, no study has been disclosed as to the memory of such an axial chirality. The reason is very obvious: the chiral information is stored over three carbon atoms. Here, the first example of the memory of chirality (MOC) of allenes has been recorded, which was realized via an optically active alkylidene-π-allyl iridium intermediate, leading to a highly stereoselective electrophilic allenylation with amines. Specifically, we have established the transition metal-mediated highly stereoselective 2,3-allenylation of amines by using optically active 2,3-allenyl carbonates under the catalysis of a nonchiral iridium(iii) complex. This method is compatible with sterically bulky and small substituents on both amines and 2,3-allenyl carbonates and furnishes the desired optically active products with a high efficiency of chirality transfer. Further mechanistic experiments reveal that the isomerization of the optically active alkylidene-π-allyl iridium intermediate is very slow.

Abundant n → π* interactions between adjacent backbone carbonyl groups, identified by statistical analysis of protein structures, are predicted to play an important role in dictating the structure of proteins. However, experimentally testing the prediction in proteins has been challenging due to the weak nature of this interaction. By amplifying the strength of the n → π* interaction via amino acid substitution and thioamide incorporation at a solvent exposed β-turn within the GB1 proteins and Pin 1 WW domain, we demonstrate that an n → π* interaction increases the structural stability of proteins by restricting the ϕ torsion angle. Our results also suggest that amino acid side-chain identity and its rotameric conformation play an important and decisive role in dictating the strength of an n → π* interaction.

Amino acid residues adopt a right-handed α-helical conformation with increasing strength of the n → π* interaction. We also demonstrate a direct consequence of n → π* interactions on enhancing the structural stability of proteins.  相似文献

The electronic coupling between symmetrically placed π electrons through a cyclohexane spacer is calculated using ab initio methods. In particular we have performed a multiconfigurational configuration interaction study involving the broken symmetry Hartree—Fock solutions. The value of Δ, in a simplified model the splitting between the symmetric and antisymmetric π orbitals, is moderately changed compared to the Koopmans theorem value. The influence of the basis set on the calculated splittings is also analyzed.  相似文献
