We report on the effect of oxygen partial pressure and vacuum annealing on structural and optical properties of pulsed laser-deposited nanocrystalline WO3 thin films. XRD results show the hexagonal phase of deposited WO3 thin films. The crystallite size was observed to increase with increase in oxygen partial pressure. Vacuum annealing changed the transparent as-deposited WO3 thin film to deep shade of blue color which increases the optical absorption of the film. The origin of this blue color could be due to the presence of oxygen vacancies associated with tungsten ions in lower oxidation states. In addition, the effects of VO2 content on structural, electrochemical, and optical properties of (WO3)1−x (VO2) x nanocomposite thin films have also been systematically investigated. Cyclic voltammogram exhibits a modification with the appearance of an extra cathodic peak for VO2–WO3 thin film electrode with higher VO2 content (x ≥ 0.2). Increase of VO2 content in (WO3)1−x (VO2) x films leads to red shift in optical band gap.  相似文献

Na2O–PbO–Al2O3–B2O3 (NPAB) glasses mixed with different concentrations of WO3 (ranging from 0 to 2.5 mol%) are synthesized by conventional melt quenching method. The samples are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical absorption, Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic techniques. Glass formation is confirmed by X-ray diffraction spectra. The optical absorption spectra of these glasses exhibited a predominant broad band peak at about 850–870 nm is identified due to dxydx2y2 transition of W5+ ions. From the optical absorption spectral data, optical band gap (Eopt) and Urbach energy (ΔE) are evaluated. From EPR spectra the strength of the signal is increased and hyperfine splitting is resolved with increasing concentration of WO3 in the glass matrix. The FT-IR spectral studies have pointed out the existence of conventional BO3, BO4, B–O–B, PbO4, WO4 and WO6 structural units of these glasses. Various physical properties and optical basicity are also evaluated with respect to the concentration of WO3 ions.  相似文献

Amorphous tungsten trioxide films, investigated by the Raman scattering method, are shown to be composed of a spatial network of tightly bound (WO6)n·mH2O clusters with a large number of terminal oxygen W=O and W-O-W bonds between clusters. The injected electrons in an amorphous tungsten trioxide film are localized in the tungsten 5d orbitals in an axially distorted octahedron, as is shown by ESR analysis. The optical absorption of a coloured amorphous tungsten trioxide film, as has previously been proposed, can be satisfactorily described by an intervalence charge-transfer transition between localized W5+ and W6+ states.  相似文献

A pristine acetylated peroxotungstate sol with and without 4 wt% of oxalic acid dihydrate (OAD) yielded nanocrystalline and amorphous tungsten oxide (WO3) films respectively by dip coating technique. Contrary to the expected trend, whereby, the nanostructured 4% OAD film with a triclinic modification should have shown superior electrochromic efficiency, its amorphous 0% OAD counterpart exhibits higher optical modulation and coloration efficiency at photopic wavelengths. This anomalous behavior of the amorphous 0% OAD film was correlated to a higher W5+ content in its colored state. The colored nanocrystalline 4% OAD film contained a lower proportion of the W5+ color centers. Under the same level of lithiation, while the 4% OAD film was also constituted by W4+ states, its 0% OAD counterpart did not contain any 4+ states of tungsten. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) investigations also confirmed that the single peak at ∼1.4 eV in the absorption coefficient–wavelength spectrum of the colored 0% OAD film arises from the small polaronic transitions between the W6+ and W5+ states of tungsten whereas the W6+–W5+ and the W5+–W4+ charge transitions produce two distinct peaks at 1.2 and 1.6 eV in the α–λ spectrum of the colored 4% OAD film. The microstructure of the 4% OAD film, characterized by an interconnected network of nanocrystallites and pores promotes rapid ion insertion and extraction. Therefore, the larger magnitudes of NIR reflectance modulation, diffusion coefficient for lithium, electrochemical activity and faster color–bleach kinetics observed for the 4% OAD film, are a direct consequence of its structure. Band gap widening upon lithium insertion observed for both films, is a repercussion of Burstein–Moss effect and structural changes that occur upon coloration.  相似文献

The interaction between light and electrons in oxide compounds forms the basis for many interesting and practical effects, which are related to microstructure, energy band, traps, carrier transport and others. Thin films of oxides like WO3, Ga2O3, Y2O3 and SrTiO3 were investigated using various improved optical and luminescent techniques. The home-made systems for optical and luminescent measurements were described in detail. The facilities of photo-Hall and photoconductivity transients have been proven to be powerful tools in the studies, which allow us to perform photoinduced process and relaxation measurements over a wide time range from 10−8 to 104 s. Furthermore, we extended the measurement capabilities of the commercial luminoscope by using an interferometer system with optical fiber and illuminance meter instead of an optical microscope. The cathodoluminescent measurements can be performed at a relative high pressure (20-60 mTorr) compared to ultra-high-vacuum condition of most commercial products. Luminescent characterization was employed as a probe to study doping ions, oxygen vacancies, trap and/or exciton levels in oxide thin films. Our results suggest that various traps and/or excitons in thin films of WO3, Ga2O3 and SrTiO3 involve in the process of photoconductivity relaxation and emission.  相似文献

A nanocrystalline and porous p-polyaniline/n-WO3 dissimilar heterojunction at ambient temperature is reported. The high-quality and well-reproducible conjugated polymer composite films have been fabricated by oxidative polymerization of anilinium ion on predeposited WO3 thin film by chemical bath deposition followed by thermal annealing at 573 K for 1 h. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) analyses reveal a homogenous but irregular cluster of faceted spherically shaped grains with pores. The scanning electron microscopy confirms the porous network of grains, which is in good agreement with the AFM result. The optical absorption analysis of polyaniline/WO3 hybrid films showed that direct optical transition exist in the photon energy range 3.50–4.00 eV with bandgap of 3.70 eV. The refractive index developed peak at 445 nm in the dispersion region while the high-frequency dielectric constant, ? , and the carrier concentration to effective mass ratio, N/m*, was found to be 1.58 and 1.10 × 1039 cm?3, respectively. The temperature dependence of electrical resistivity of the deposited films follows the semiconductor behavior while the C–V characteristics (Mott–Schottky plots) show that the flat band potential was ?791 and 830 meV/SCE for WO3 and polyaniline.  相似文献

A well-known gasochromic material is Pt particle-dispersed tungsten trioxide (Pt/WO3). Its optical properties could make it effective as a hydrogen gas sensor. In this study, Pt nanoparticle-dispersed WO3 thin films were prepared using the sol–gel process, and their optical and electrical properties dependent on the working environment (i.e., temperature, hydrogen gas concentration, oxygen partial pressure, etc.) were investigated. The Pt/WO3 thin films prepared at 400 °C showed the largest change in optical transmittance and electrical conductivity when exposed to hydrogen gas compared with the films prepared at other temperatures. The optical absorbance and electrical conductivity were found to be dependent on the hydrogen and oxygen gas concentration in the atmosphere because generation and disappearance of W5+ in the thin films depend on the equilibrium reaction between injection and rejection of H+ into and from the thin films. In addition, the equilibrium reaction depends on the hydrogen and oxygen gas concentrations.  相似文献

Photoinduced IR absorption measurements are reported on WO3. A photoinduced midinfrared small polaron peak centered at 4800 cm-1 (0.59 eV) was observed. The data were analyzed in the framework of the photon-assisted small-polaron hopping theory and briefly compared to previously published infrared absorption measurements in WO3 and photoinduced IR absorption measurements in high T c cuprates. By electrochemically controlling the structure of the surface aggregates, the grain microstructure has been optimized to yield mesoporous thin films of tungsten oxide (WO3) at the electrode-electrolyte interface in a peroxotungstate sol in the presence of a structure-directing agent (Triton) at room temperature. Apart from the dominant ultrafine nanocrystallites and pores (5-10 nm), well-developed abutting grains (25-100 nm) and nanofibrils also constitute an integral part of the film matrix. X-ray photoemission spectra reveal the as-deposited film (WO3−x) to be constituted by a high proportion of W6+ states with a low oxygen deficiency (x = 0.02). A relatively high W5+ content in the film, upon intercalation of 18 mC cm−2 charge translates into a large coloring efficiency (ηVIS ∼ 70 cm2 C−1) and transmission modulation. At a lithium intercalation level of 22 mC cm−2, in addition to W5+ and W6+ states, the film also comprises of W4+ states. The extremely fast color-bleach kinetics (3 and 2 s, respectively, for a 50% change in transmittance) shown by the as-deposited WO3 film are repercussions of the mesopore morphology, the multiple nanostructures and the sixfold channels of its hexagonal modification. The film shows a high cycling stability as the switching times do not show any significant decline even after 3500 repetitive cycles. Coloration efficiency over the solar and photopic regions and current density for lithium intercalation for the as-deposited film are superior to that observed for the films annealed at 100, 250 and 500 °C. The abysmal electrochromic response of the annealed films is a consequence of surface defects like cracks and uncontrolled densification and pore shrinkage.  相似文献

We investigated the electrochemical property of Ta2O5 thin film for all-solid-state switchable mirror glass. The film was deposited by reactive dc magnetron sputtering in a mixture gas of argon and oxygen. The current density of the film covered WO3/ITO/glass was decreased with decreasing argon/oxygen ratio and working pressure measured by cyclic voltammetry. The film deposited at argon/oxygen ratio of 4.7 and working pressure of 1.0 Pa had better electrochemical property than that of other deposition condition. Its estimated proton conductivity was 2.1 × 10? 9 S/cm by conventional ac impedance method. However, the device using the film showed poor optical switching property. The transmittance change of the device at a wavelength of 670 nm was only 16% by applying voltage. On the other hand, the device using the film deposited at working pressure of 0.7 Pa was able to switch its optical switching property from reflective of 0.1% to transparent states of 44% within 15 s. These results indicate that the suitable deposition condition of the Ta2O5 thin film existed to be used for all-solid-state switchable mirror glass.  相似文献

We combined spectroscopic ellipsometry and Raman scattering measurements to explore the electronic structure and lattice dynamics in Li2Ni(WO4)2. The optical absorption spectrum of Li2Ni(WO4)2 measured at room temperature presents a direct optical band gap at 2.25 eV and two bands near 5.2 and 6.0 eV, which are attributed to charge-transfer transitions from oxygen 2p states to nickel 3d or tungsten 5p states. The Raman scattering spectrum of Li2Ni(WO4)2 measured at room temperature presents seventeen phonon modes at approximately 112, 143, 193, 222, 267, 283, 312, 352, 387, 418, 451, 476, 554, 617, 754, 792, and 914 cm−1. When the temperature is decreased to 20 K, the frequency, linewidth, and normalized intensity of all phonon modes exhibited almost no temperature dependence. Upon cooling across 13 K, which is the antiferromagnetic phase transition temperature, the oxygen octahedra stretching mode at 914 cm−1 exhibited a softening and an increase in intensity, thus suggesting a coupling between the magnetic and lattice degrees of freedom. The spin-phonon coupling constant was estimated to be 0.94 mRy/Å2, indicating a weak spin-phonon interaction in Li2Ni(WO4)2.  相似文献

Lead bismuth arsenate glasses mixed with different concentrations of WO3 (ranging from 0 to 6.0 mol%) were synthesized. Differential thermal analysis (DTA), optical absorption, ESR and IR spectral studies have been carried out. The results of DTA have indicated that there is a gradual decrease in the resistance of the glass against devitrification with increase in the concentration of WO3 upto 4.0 mol%.The optical absorption spectra of these glasses exhibited a relatively broad band peaking at about 880 nm identified due to dxydx2y2 transition of W5+ ions; this band is observed to be more intense in the spectrum of glass containing 4.0 mol% of WO3. Further, two prominent kinks attributed to 3P01S0, 1D2 transitions of Bi3+ ions have also been located in the absorption spectra. The ESR spectra of these glasses recorded at room temperature exhibited an asymmetric signal at g∼1.71 and gll∼1.61. The intensity of the signal is observed to be maximal for the spectrum of the glass W4. The quantitative analysis of optical absorption and ESR spectral studies have indicated that there is a maximum reduction of tungsten ions from W6+ state to W5+ state in the glass containing 4.0 mol% of WO3. The IR spectral studies have indicated that there is a increasing degree of disorder in the glass network with increase in the concentration of WO3 upto 4.0 mol%.  相似文献

We present an experimental study on the electrochromic properties of MoO3, WO3 and mixed WO3-MoO3 thin films prepared by thermal evaporation. We have constructed symmetric and quasi-symmetric electrochromic cells incorporating the evaporated oxide films as electrochromic layers. Li+ doped V2O5 films served as ion storage layers. The symmetric cells were found to exhibit significantly improved optical properties compared to the quasi-symmetric ones, with very low luminous transmittance values in the colored state, which makes them suitable for large-area window applications. The polarized absorption spectra, infrared fluorescence spectra, upconversion visible fluorescence spectra, and fluorescence decay curve of orientated Nd3+:KGd(WO4)2 crystal were measured at room-temperature. Some important spectroscopic parameters were investigated in detail in the framework of the Judd-Ofelt theory and the Fuchtbauer-Ladenburg formula. The effect of the crystal structure on the spectroscopic properties of the Nd3+ ions was analyzed. The relation among the spectroscopic parameters and the laser performances of the Nd3+:KGd(WO4)2 crystal was discussed.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are conducted to explore the interaction of H2 with pure and Ti-doped WO3 (002) surfaces. Four top adsorption models of H2 on pure and Ti-doped WO3 (002) surfaces are investigated respectively, they are adsorption on bridging oxygen O1c, absorption on plane oxygen O2c, absorption on 5-fold W5c (Ti), and absorption on 6-fold W6c. The most stable and H2 possible adsorption structure in the pure surface is H-end oriented to the surface plane oxygen O2c site, while the favourable adsorption sites for H2 in a Ti-doped surface is not only an O2c site but also a W6c site. The adsorption energy, the Fermi energy level EF, and the electronic population are investigated and the H2-sensing mechanism of a pure-doped WO3 (002) surface is revealed theoretically: the theoretical results are in good accordance with our existing experimental results. By comparing the above three terms, it is found that Ti doping can obviously enhance the adsorption of H2. It can be predicted that the method of Ti-doped into a WO3 thin film is an effective way to improve WO3 sensor sensitivity to H2 gas.  相似文献

Well-crystallized 250 nm-thick SrTiO3 thin films on fused-quartz substrate were prepared by pulsed laser deposition. The band-gap of SrTiO3 thin film by transmittance spectra is equal to 3.50 eV, larger than 3.22 eV for the bulk crystal. The nonlinear optical properties of the films were examined with picosecond pulses at 1.064 μm excitation. A large two-photon absorption (TPA) with absorption coefficient of 87.7 cm/GW was obtained, larger than 51.7 cm/GW for BaTiO3 thin films. The nonlinear refractive index n2 is equal to 5.7×10−10 esu with a negative sign, larger than 0.267×10−11 esu for bulk SrTiO3. The large TPA is attributed to intermediate energy levels introduced by the grain boundaries, and the optical limiting behaviors stemming from both TPA and negative nonlinear refraction were also discussed.  相似文献

Erbium and ytterbium codoped double tungstates NaY(WO4)2 crystals were prepared by using Czochralski (CZ) pulling method. The absorption spectra in the region 290-2000 nm have been recorded at room temperature. The Judd-Ofelt theory was applied to the measured values of absorption line strengths to evaluate the spontaneous emission probabilities and stimulated emission cross sections of Er3+ ions in NaY(WO4)2 crystals. Intensive green and red lights were measured when the sample were pumped by a 974 nm laser diode (LD), especially, the intensities of green upconversion luminescence are very strong. The mechanism of energy transfer from Yb3+ to Er3+ ions was analyzed. Energy transfer and nonradiative relaxation played an important role in the upconversion process. Photoexcited luminescence experiments are also fulfilled to help analyzing the transit processes of the energy levels.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) films were fabricated by cosputtering titanium (Ti) target and SiO2 or Si slice with ion-beam-sputtering deposition (IBSD) technique and were postannealed at 450 °C for 6 h. The variations of oxygen bonding, which included high-binding-energy oxygen (HBO), bridging oxygen (BO), low-binding-energy oxygen (LBO), and three chemical states of titanium (Ti4+, Ti3+ and Ti2+) were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The enhancement of HBO and reduction of BO in O 1s spectra as functions of SiO2 or Si amount in cosputtered film imply the formation of Si-O-Ti linkage. Corresponding increase of Ti3+ in Ti 2p spectra further confirmed the property modification of the cosputtered film resulting from the variation of the chemical bonding. An observed correlation between the chemical structure and optical properties, refractive index and extinction coefficient, of the SiO2 or Si cosputtered films demonstrated that the change of chemical bonding in the film results in the modification of optical properties. Furthermore, it was found that the optical properties of the cosputtered films were strongly depended on the cosputtering targets. In case of the Si cosputtered films both the refractive indices and extinction coefficients were reduced after postannealing, however, the opposite trend was observed in SiO2 cosputtered films.

Various types of dynamic adjustable optical shutters have been proposed; they are called as “smart windows”. The electrochromic smart window utilizes the phenomenon of electrochromism. Electrochromism is the property of a material such that its color is changed by an electrochemical redox reaction. Numerous inorganic and organic electrochromic materials have been examined. During the color-bleach process, the redox reaction of the host material causes injection or ejection of both cation (or anion) and an electron (or hole). So it behaves as a mixed ion conductor and hence it has recently attracted interest in the field of solid state ionics. At present, several prototypes of electrochromic smart windows have been proposed and some of them are commercially available. The cathodic electrochromic oxides consist of n-type semiconductors such as TiO2, V2O5, WO3 and MoO3. Among them, WO3 has been intensively examined and used for most electrochromic devices. These materials are cathodically colored in blue. The electrochromic reaction is expressed by $$xA^ + + MO_y \left( {transparent} \right) + x e^ - \Leftrightarrow A_x MO_y \left( {blue} \right)\left( {A = H, Li, Na, K \ldots , MO_y = metal oxide} \right)$$ where the cation A+ and electron e? are co-injected into the host oxide MOy which results in the formation of the nonstiochiometric compound AxMOy. Here the electrodeposition method is used to deposite WO3 films under by galvanostatic conditions. The parameters like deposition time, deposition temperature, electrolyte concentration, pH and bath temperature are optimized. The XRD results show the triclinic structure for the as-deposited film. The film shows the same structure after intercalation but the peak intensity is different. The tungsten trioxide thin films show the colour change during the intercalation and retrace the original colour. The diffusion coefficient for K+ ion is calculated by using the Randles-Servick equation. In this paper the electrochromic properties, the optical properties of the as deposited, ion intercalated and deintercalated WO3 films and the diffusion coefficient values are presented.  相似文献
