A star edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring such that every connected 2-colored subgraph is a path with at most 3 edges. Deng et al. and Bezegová et al. independently show that the star chromatic index of a tree with maximum degree Δ is at most ?3Δ2?, which is tight. In this paper, we study the list star edge coloring of k-degenerate graphs. Let chst(G) be the list star chromatic index of G: the minimum s such that for every s-list assignment L for the edges, G has a star edge coloring from L. By introducing a stronger coloring, we show with a very concise proof that the upper bound on the star chromatic index of trees also holds for list star chromatic index of trees, i.e. chst(T)?3Δ2? for any tree T with maximum degree Δ. And then by applying some orientation technique we present two upper bounds for list star chromatic index of k-degenerate graphs.  相似文献

A proper k-edge-coloring of a graph with colors in {1,2,,k} is neighbor sum distinguishing (or, NSD for short) if for any two adjacent vertices, the sums of the colors of the edges incident with each of them are distinct. Flandrin et al. conjectured that every connected graph with at least 6 vertices has an NSD edge coloring with at most Δ+2 colors. Huo et al. proved that every subcubic graph without isolated edges has an NSD 6-edge-coloring. In this paper, we first prove a structural result about subcubic graphs by applying the decomposition theorem of Trotignon and Vu?kovi?, and then applying this structural result and the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz, we extend the NSD 6-edge-coloring result to its list version and show that every subcubic graph without isolated edges has a list NSD 6-edge-coloring.  相似文献

A proper edge coloring of a graph G is acyclic if there is no 2-colored cycle in G. The acyclic chromatic index of G, denoted by χ a(G), is the least number of colors such that G has an acyclic edge coloring. A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn on the plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, it is proved that χ a(G) ≤Δ(G) + 22, if G is a triangle-free 1-planar graph.  相似文献

An acyclic edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring such that there are no bichromatic cycles. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph is the minimum number k such that there is an acyclic edge coloring using k colors and it is denoted by a(G). From a result of Burnstein it follows that all subcubic graphs are acyclically edge colorable using five colors. This result is tight since there are 3-regular graphs which require five colors. In this paper we prove that any non-regular connected graph of maximum degree 3 is acyclically edge colorable using at most four colors. This result is tight since all edge maximal non-regular connected graphs of maximum degree 3 require four colors.  相似文献

An acyclic edge coloring of a graph is a proper edge coloring such that there are no bichromatic cycles. The acyclic chromatic index of a graph is the minimum number k such that there is an acyclic edge coloring using k colors and is denoted by a′(G). It was conjectured by Alon, Sudakov, and Zaks that for any simple and finite graph G, a′(G)?Δ + 2, where Δ=Δ(G) denotes the maximum degree of G. We prove the conjecture for connected graphs with Δ(G)?4, with the additional restriction that m?2n?1, where n is the number of vertices and m is the number of edges in G. A well-established generalization of graph coloring is the concept of list coloring. In this setting, each vertex v of a graph G is assigned a list L(v) of k colors and the goal is to find a proper coloring c of G with c(v)∈L(v). The smallest integer k for which such a coloring c exists for every choice of lists is called the list chromatic number of G and denoted by χl(G).We study list colorings of Cartesian products of graphs. We show that unlike in the case of ordinary colorings, the list chromatic number of the product of two graphs G and H is not bounded by the maximum of χl(G) and χl(H). On the other hand, we prove that χl(G×H)?min{χl(G)+col(H),col(G)+χl(H)}-1 and construct examples of graphs G and H for which our bound is tight.  相似文献

The acyclic chromatic index of a graph is the minimum number k such that there is an acyclic edge coloring using k colors and is denoted by a(G). Let Δ=Δ(G) denote the maximum degree of a vertex in a graph G. A complete bipartite graph with n vertices on each side is denoted by Kn,n. Alon, McDiarmid and Reed observed that a(Kp−1,p−1)=p for every prime p. In this paper we prove that a(Kp,p)≤p+2=Δ+2 when p is prime. Basavaraju, Chandran and Kummini proved that a(Kn,n)≥n+2=Δ+2 when n is odd, which combined with our result implies that a(Kp,p)=p+2=Δ+2 when p is an odd prime. Moreover we show that if we remove any edge from Kp,p, the resulting graph is acyclically Δ+1=p+1-edge-colorable.  相似文献

A proper edge coloring of a graph is said to be acyclic if any cycle is colored with at least three colors. An edge-list L of a graph G is a mapping that assigns a finite set of positive integers to each edge of G. An acyclic edge coloring ? of G such that for any is called an acyclic L-edge coloring of G. A graph G is said to be acyclically k-edge choosable if it has an acyclic L‐edge coloring for any edge‐list L that satisfies for each edge e. The acyclic list chromatic index is the least integer k such that G is acyclically k‐edge choosable. We develop techniques to obtain bounds for the acyclic list chromatic indices of outerplanar graphs, subcubic graphs, and subdivisions of Halin graphs.  相似文献

A proper edge-k-coloring of a graph G is a mapping from E(G) to {1, 2,..., k} such that no two adjacent edges receive the same color. A proper edge-k-coloring of G is called neighbor sum distinguishing if for each edge uv ∈ E(G), the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to u is different from the sum of colors taken on the edges incident to v. Let χ_Σ'(G) denote the smallest value k in such a coloring of G. This parameter makes sense for graphs containing no isolated edges(we call such graphs normal). The maximum average degree mad(G) of G is the maximum of the average degrees of its non-empty subgraphs. In this paper, we prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with mad(G) 5/2,then χ_Σ'(G) ≤ 5. We also prove that if G is a normal subcubic graph with at least two 2-vertices, 6 colors are enough for a neighbor sum distinguishing edge coloring of G, which holds for the list version as well.  相似文献
