The propagation of short waves in turbulent single layer flows forming on inclined surfaces has received considerable interest in the past. It is well known that such flows on flat surfaces are unstable if the Froude number of the unperturbed uniform state exceeds a critical value. In the initial linear stage disturbances grow exponentially with propagation distance but it has been shown that weakly nonlinear effects may limit the maximum wave amplitude under strictly periodic conditions leading in turn to a train of permanent roll waves. The present study investigates how the flow behaviour is affected if the slope of the bounding surface is no longer constant but changing slowly in the streamwise direction. In the present work, we studied the propagation of small-but-finite-amplitude waves in a prestressed thick walled viscoelastic tube filled with an incompressible inviscid fluid. In order to include the dispersion, the wall's inertial and shear effects are taken into account in determining the inner pressure–inner cross-sectional area relation. Using the reductive perturbation method, the propagation of weakly nonlinear waves in the long-wave approximation is investigated. After obtaining the general evolution equation in the long-wave approximation, by a proper scaling, it is shown that this general equation reduces to the well-known evolution equations such as the Burgers, Korteweg-de Vries (KdV), Koteweg-de Vries–Burgers (KdVB) and the generalized Burgers' equations. By proper re-scaling of the perturbation parameter, the modified form of the evolution equations is also obtained. The variations of the travelling wave profile with initial deformation and the viscosity coefficients are numerically evaluated and the results are illustrated in some figures.  相似文献

We consider the propagation of TM-polarized electromagnetic waves in a nonlinear dielectric layer located between two linear media. The nonlinearity in the layer is described by the Kerr law. We reduce the problem to a nonlinear boundary eigenvalue problem for a system of ordinary differential equations. We obtain a dispersion relation and a first approximation for eigenvalues of the problem. We compare the results with those obtained for the case of a linear medium in the layer.  相似文献

The equations are represented in a simplified format with only a few leading terms needed in the expansion. The set of equations are then solved numerically using vector finite element method. To validate our algorithm, we analyzed a two-dimensional rectangular waveguide consisting of a linear core and nonlinear identical cladding. The exact nonlinear solutions for three different modes of propagations, TE0, TE1, and TE2 modes are generated and compared with the computed solutions. Next, we investigate the effect of a more intense monochromatic field on the propagation of a “weak” optical field in a fully three-dimensional cylindrical waveguide.  相似文献

Variational problems equivalent to nonlinear evolutionary boundary-value problems with a free boundary are formulated. These problems arise in the theory of interaction of limited volumes of liquid, gas, and their interface with acoustic fields. In this work the wave field arising over a concave-convex reflecting boundary is studied in the Kirchhoff approximation. The field arises as a result of the incidence of whispering gallery waves on an inflection point of the boundary from the concave side. The shortwave asymptotics of the Kirchhoff integral are obtained which is expressed in terms of special functions in a neighborhood of the inflection point of the boundary and in a neighborhood of the tangent to the boundary at the inflection point. We study the behavior of spiral wave under the driving of a rotating electric field. The rotating electric field can drive a spiral wave to be synchronous, depending on four factors: its frequency and amplitude, chirality, and polarized modes. Rotation-synchronization characterized by the rotating direction is focused on. We discuss the behavior of synchronization, such as the dependence of angle-differences between the spiral tip and the electric field on ratio of frequency, the influences of different polarized modes of the electric field, the radius of synchronous spiral wave, and so on. A circularly polarized electric fields (CPEF) can suppress meandering spiral to rigid one and prevent breakup of spiral in medium with low excitability. The phase diagram describing the controllable region in excitability-period plane is presented. The influences of polarized modes of electric field on minimum excitability of medium are also studied.  相似文献

In the present work, treating the arteries as a tapered, thin-walled, long and circularly conical prestressed elastic tube and using the long-wave approximation, we have studied the propagation of weakly nonlinear waves in such a fluid-filled elastic tube by employing the reductive perturbation method. By considering the blood as an incompressible inviscid fluid the evolution equation is obtained as the Korteweg-de Vries equation with a variable coefficient. It is shown that this type of equations admits a solitary wave type of solution with variable wave speed. It is observed that the wave speed increases with the scaled time parameter τ for positive tapering while it decreases for negative tapering, as expected.  相似文献

In the article, we consider the equation of internal gravity-gyroscopic waves in an exponentially stratified fluid whose model is the great oceans. We study the case in which a fluid occupies a bounded domain and a boundary condition of the third kind is imposed on the boundary, All sinks and sources localized on the boundary are taken into account. In this article, we study the weak dissipative Kirchhoff equation \({u_{tt}} - M\left( {\left\| {\nabla u} \right\|_2^2} \right)\Delta u + b\left( x \right){u_t} + f\left( u \right) = 0\), under nonlinear damping on the boundary \(\frac{{\partial u}}{{\partial v}} + \alpha \left( t \right)g\left( {{u_t}} \right) = 0\). We prove a general energy decay property for solutions in terms of coefficient of the frictional boundary damping. Our result extends and improves some results in the literature such as the work by Zhang and Miao (2010) in which only exponential energy decay is considered and the work by Zhang and Huang (2014) where the energy decay has been not considered.  相似文献
