A topology optimization method based on the solid isotropic material with penalization interpolation scheme is utilized for designing gradient coils for use in magnetic resonance microscopy. Unlike the popular stream function method, the proposed method has design variables that are the distribution of conductive material. A voltage-driven transverse gradient coil is proposed to be used as micro-scale magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) gradient coils, thus avoiding introducing a coil-winding pattern and simplifying the coil configuration. The proposed method avoids post-processing errors that occur when the continuous current density is approximated by discrete wires in the stream function approach. The feasibility and accuracy of the method are verified through designing the z-gradient and y-gradient coils on a cylindrical surface.Numerical design results show that the proposed method can provide a new coil layout in a compact design space.  相似文献

In this paper, an approach to the design of shielded radio-frequency (RF) phased-array coils for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is proposed. The target field method is used to find current densities distributed on primary and shield coils. The stream function technique is used to discretize current densities and to obtain the winding patterns of the coils. The corresponding highly ill-conditioned integral equation is solved by the Tikhonov regularization with a penalty function related to the minimum curvature. To balance the simplicity and smoothness with the homogeneity of the magnetic field of the coil’s winding pattern, the selection of a penalty factor is discussed in detail.  相似文献

High-resolution magnetic resonance imaging using dedicated high-field radiofrequency micro-coils at 16.4 T (700 MHz) was investigated. Specific solenoid coils primarily using silver and copper as conductors with enamel and polyurethane coatings were built to establish which coil configuration produces the best image. Image quality was quantified using signal-to-noise ratio and signal variation over regions of interest. Benchmarking was conducted using 5-mm diameter coils, as this size is comparable to an established coil of the same size. Our 1.4-mm-diameter coils were compared directly to each other, from which we deduce performance as a function of conductor material and coating. A variety of materials and conductor coatings allowed us to choose an optimal design, which we used to image a kidney section at 10-micron resolution. We applied zero-fill extrapolation to achieve 5-micron resolution.  相似文献

The use of flat RF coils allows considerable gains in the sensitivity of static field gradient (SFG) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. In this article, this effect is studied theoretically as well as experimentally. Additionally, the flat coil geometry has been studied theoretically depending on magnetic field gradient, pulse sequence and amplifier power. Moreover, detecting the signal directly from the free induction decay (FID) turned out to be quite attractive for STRAFI-like microimaging experiments, especially when using flat coils. In addition to wound rectangular flat coils also spiral flat coils have been developed which can be manufactured by photolithography from printed circuit boards.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to present clinical examples and illustrate the inefficiencies of a conventional reconstruction using a commercially available phased array coil with localized sensitivities. Five patients were imaged at 1.5 T using a cardiac-synchronized gadolinium-enhanced acquisition and a commercially available four-element phased array coil. Four unique sets of images were reconstructed from the acquired k-space data: (a) sum-of-squares image using four elements of the coil; localized sum-of-squares images from the (b) anterior coils and (c) posterior coils and a (c) local reconstruction. Images were analyzed for artifacts and usable field-of-view. Conventional image reconstruction produced images with fold-over artifacts in all cases spanning a portion of the image (mean 90 mm; range 36-126 mm). The local reconstruction removed fold-over artifacts and resulted in an effective increase in the field-of-view (mean 50%; range 20-70%). Commercially available phased array coils do not always have overlapping sensitivities. Fold-over artifacts can be removed using an alternate reconstruction method. When assessing the advantages of parallel imaging techniques, gains achieved using techniques such as SENSE and SMASH should be gauged against the acquisition time of the localized method rather than the conventional sum-of-squares method.  相似文献

For a number of reasons, it is desirable to fabricate coils which, for a known current, shall produce predetermined values of the magnetic field intensity at a number of points within a nuclear magnetic resonance imager. The calculation of the magnetic field intensity at a set of points involves the integration of the Biot-Savart equation for all components of the segments of conductor which make up the coil. This process in itself is a rather formidable task. When this process is parameterized in terms of coil diameter, coil spacing, etc. the problem is to determine the values of these parameters to match values of magnetic field intensities which are desired. The problem thereby increases in complexity to the point where, by ordinary methods, the problem becomes intractable. This note describes an algorithm and offers a computer subroutine to calculate magnetic fields for coils of arbitrary shape and complexity for fixed currents.  相似文献

The theory of diffusion gradient-weighted MRI (DGWI) is presented in this paper. The Bloch-Torrey equation was modified to include the effect of intravoxel spatial-location variation of water diffusion (diffusion gradient) on MRI signal, in addition to the effect of intravoxel spatial-direction variation of water diffusion (diffusion anisotropy). An analytical solution for a diffusion-encoding spin-echo pulse sequence was derived. Unlike water diffusion which attenuates the image signal intensity, this newly derived solution relates the spatial gradient of the water diffusion with the phase of the image signal. This novel MRI technique directly measures both the water diffusion and its spatial gradient, and thus offers a noninvasive imaging tool to simultaneously investigate the intravoxel inhomogeneity and anisotropy of tissue structures. In addition, as demonstrated with our preliminary data, this new method may be utilized to delineate the interfaces of tissues with different diffusion. This method is an extension of the successful diffusion tensor MRI (DTI), but requires no additional data acquisition. In addition to the measured diffusion tensor, this new method provides measurements of the spatial derivatives of the three principal diffusivities of the tensor, thereby providing additional information for improving white matter fiber tractography.  相似文献

A generalized solution technique has been developed on a digital computer to implement the rotational discrimination nonlinear regression techniques of Faris, Law and Letcher to find the best solution to this problem. The problem is posed by integrating the Biot-Savart equation. This produces algebraic expressions for incorporation into the optimization program which is executed on a computer in a conversational mode.

This technique was employed to specify the dimensions of a rectangular surface coil for the investigation of the whole human spine.  相似文献
