Pt-Ru supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (single-walled nanotubes, double-walled nanotubes (DWNTs), and multi-walled nanotubes) catalysts are prepared by an ethylene glycol reduction method. Pt-Ru nanoparticles with a diameter of 2-3 nm and narrow particle size distributions are uniformly deposited onto the CNTs. A simple and fast filtration method followed by a hot-press film transfer is employed to prepare the anode catalyst layer on a Nafion membrane. The Pt-Ru/DWNTs catalyst shows the highest specific activity for methanol oxidation reaction in rotating disk electrode experiments and the highest performance as an anode catalyst in direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) single cell tests. The DMFC single cell with Pt-Ru/DWNTs (50 wt %, 0.34 mg Pt-Ru/cm(2)) produces a 68% enhancement of power density, and at the same time, an 83% reduction of Pt-Ru electrode loading when compared to Pt-Ru/C (40 wt %, 2.0 mg Pt-Ru/cm(2)).  相似文献

The high activity of catalysts based of nanodisperse Pt-P system and their tolerance to the poisoning effect of methanol are demonstrated for the working potentials of cathodes in methanol-air fuel cells. The catalysts’ activity in the oxygen reduction reaction in the presence of methanol is nearly hundred times that of catalysts based on mixed metal-chalcogenide systems.  相似文献

In situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy, ex situ X-ray fluorescence, and X-ray powder diffraction enabled detailed core analysis of phase segregated nanostructured PtRu anode catalysts in an operating direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). No change in the core structures of the phase segregated catalyst was observed as the potential traversed the current onset potential of the DMFC. The methodology was exemplified using a Johnson Matthey unsupported PtRu (1:1) anode catalyst incorporated into a DMFC membrane electrode assembly. During DMFC operation the catalyst is essentially metallic with half of the Ru incorporated into a face-centered cubic (FCC) Pt alloy lattice and the remaining half in an amorphous phase. The extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis suggests that the FCC lattice is not fully disordered. The EXAFS indicates that the Ru-O bond lengths were significantly shorter than those reported for Ru-O of ruthenium oxides, suggesting that the phases in which the Ru resides in the catalysts are not similar to oxides.  相似文献

Entry of direct methanol fuel cells into the market requires anode catalyst with stable activity. This paper presents a novel method for stabilizing the activity by immobilizing silica on the catalytic PtRu nanoparticles. Characterization was performed by STEM-EDX, XRD, and ICP. The silica-immobilized PtRu nanoparticles showed high and stable activity toward methanol oxidation. The activity was maintained for 1000 h in sulfuric acidic solution, while the activity of the catalyst with "bare" PtRu nanoparticles decayed after 100 h, showing high durability of the silica-immobilized PtRu nanoparticles catalyst in quasi-anodic acidic environment.  相似文献

We report a novel process to prepare well-dispersed Pt nanoparticles on CNTs. Pt nanoparticles, which were modified by the organic molecule triphenylphosphine, were deposited on multiwalled carbon nanotubes by the organic molecule, which acts as a cross linker. By manipulating the relative ratio of Pt nanoparticles and multiwalled carbon nanotubes in solution, Pt/CNT composites with different Pt content were achieved. The so-prepared Pt/CNT composite materials show higher electrocatalytic activity and better tolerance to poisoning species in methanol oxidation than the commercial E-TEK catalyst, which can be ascribed to the high dispersion of Pt nanoparticles on the multiwalled carbon nanotube surface.  相似文献

Palladium-based catalysts, such as PdSx/C and PdSex/C, have been developed as oxygen reduction catalysts for direct methanol fuel cells. Pd/C catalysts containing chalcogens have been synthesized and tested for oxygen reduction and the results have been analyzed based on changes in the palladium phase. Selenium addition to the catalyst promotes the oxygen reduction due to the modification of the palladium surface. However, sulfur reduces the oxygen reduction activity to a great extent as a result of semi-amorphous palladium phase formation. Both PdSx/C and PdSex/C are highly methanol tolerant.  相似文献

In the present investigation, PtRuTiOx/C electrocatalyst was prepared by a modified polyol synthesis method and the as-prepared electrocatalyst was treated under the reductive atmosphere (30 vol% H2 in Ar) at 500 °C for 2 h (denoted as PtRuTiOx/C-500) to enhance the interaction between the metal particles and the support. For comparison, the commercial PtRu/C electrocatalyst was also treated by the same procedure as PtRuTiOx/C (denoted as PtRu/C-500). Transmission electron microscopy results indicated that PtRuTiOx/C electrocatalyst exhibited not only a uniform dispersion and narrow size distribution with a smaller particle size, but also excellent stability during the thermal treatment. In contrast, the commercial PtRu/C electrocatalyst is not stable during the thermal treatment and the metal particles greatly agglomerated. The results of CO-stripping voltammetry, single direct methanol fuel cell tests and life-time test jointly showed that PtRuTiOx/C-500 had better durability than commercial PtRu/C while keeping a desirable activity toward methanol electro-oxidation, which may be attributed to the addition of titanium oxide that improved the interaction between noble metal particles and the support.  相似文献

Effect of methanol on the reduction kinetics of oxygen on highly dispersed catalysts 60Pt/C (HiSPEC 9100), 40Pt/carbon nanotubes, and CoFe/carbon nanotubes for the cathode of a direct methanol-oxygen fuel cell was studied. It was shown that the CoFe/carbon nanotubes catalyst surpasses the platinum systems in tolerance to the alcohol. It was found that the tolerance of the cathode catalyst strongly affects the current–voltage characteristics of the fuel cell, which is the principal result of the study and constitutes its scientific novelty. The maximum power density of an alkaline methanol-oxygen fuel cell with nonplatinum cathode (260 mW cm–2) exceeds the characteristics of similar fuel cells with platinum cathode catalysts, both obtained in the present study and described in the literature, which points to the practical importance of the study.  相似文献

A novel composite anode catalyst layer for direct methanol fuel cell is reported in this paper. The dual-layer anode, which is based on the catalyst coated membrane technique, characterizes a morphological variety of the catalyst layer. The inner sub-layer with a dense morphology can effectively suppress methanol crossover. On the other hand, the outer sub-layer modified by the pore-forming agent, NH4HCO3 and the carbon nanotubes can enhance the electrochemical surface area and increase the catalyst utilization. The structural improvement of anode catalyst layer results in a 40% increment in maximum power density during the single cell test at 30 °C.  相似文献

Hollow carbonaceous composites (HCCs) possessing sphere and hemisphere shape, which had wide size distribution between several tens of nanometers and several micrometers, were prepared through a facile hydrothermal method using glucose as carbon source with the assistance of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Pyrolysis of these hollow carbonaceous composites at 900 °C under nitrogen flow produced carbonized hollow carbon spheres (HCSs) without changing their structures. Platinum (Pt) was directly deposited on the surface of the HCSs by incipient wet method, using the NaBH4 as the reductant. TEM, SEM, powder XRD and FT-IR were utilized to characterize all these samples. It was found that Pt nanoparticles were uniformly anchored on the outer and the inner surface of HCSs. The electrocatalytic properties of the Pt/HCS electrode for methanol oxidation have been investigated through cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. The Pt/HCS electrode showed significantly higher electrocatalytic activity and more stability for methanol oxidation compared with Pt supported carbon microspheres (Pt/CMs) and commercial carbon (Pt/XC-72) electrode. The excellent performance for the Pt/HCS might be attributed to the high dispersion of platinum catalysts and the particular hollow structure of HCSs.  相似文献

In this study, Pt nanoparticles (NPs) were supported on reduced graphene oxide with the aid of disodium ethylenediamine-tetraacetate, where the Pt iona were initially attached to EDTA-functionalized graphene oxide (EDTA-GO) sheets and then the metal ion and the graphene oxide were reduced simultaneously by ethylene glycol. Electrochemical properties of the catalysts were studied by measuring cyclic voltammetries, and functional groups of the synthesized materials were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. Average sizes and lattice parameters were measured by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy images, and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that Pt NPs were successfully deposited on the EDTA-GO with the crystallite size of about 2.3 nm. The prepared catalysts demonstrated an enhanced tolerance towards CO poisoning, when EDTA-GO was used as supports. This suggests that EDTA plays a crucial role in the dispersion and electrocatalytic activity of the metal nanoparticles.  相似文献

Nanostructured PtRu/C catalysts have been prepared from a water-in-oil pseudomicroemulsion with the aqueous phase of a mixed concentrated solution of H(2)PtCl(6), RuCl(3), and carbon powder, oil phase of cyclohexane, ionic surfactant of sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (C(18)H(29)NaO(3)S), and cosurfactant n-butanol (C(4)H(10)O). Two different composing PtRu/C nanocatalysts (catalyst 1, Pt 20 wt %, Ru 15 wt %; catalyst 2, Pt 20 wt %, Ru 10 wt %) were synthesized. The catalysts were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, and the particles were found to be nanosized (2-4 nm) and inherit the Pt face-centered cubic structure with Pt and Ru mainly in the zero valance oxidation state. The ruthenium oxide and hydrous ruthenium oxide (RuO(x)()H(y)()) were also found in these catalysts. The cyclic voltammograms (CVs) and chronoamperometries for methanol oxidation on these catalysts showed that catalyst 1 with a higher Ru content (15 wt %) has a higher and more durable electrocatalytic activity to methanol oxidation than catalyst 2 with low Ru content (10 wt %). The CV results for catalysts 1 and 2 strongly support the bifunctional mechanism of PtRu/C catalysts for methanol oxidation. The data from direct methanol single cells using these two PtRu/C as anode catalysts show the cell with catalyst 1 has higher open circuit voltage (OCV = 0.75 V) and maximal power density (78 mW/cm(2)) than that with catalyst 2 (OCV = 0.70 V, P(max) = 56 mW/cm(2)) at 80 degrees C.  相似文献

The activity of the methanol oxidation reaction of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-supported PtRu catalyst was investigated and compared with the Vulcan XC-72 carbon-supported catalyst. The PtRu nanoparticles with 1:1 and 7:3 atomic ratios (with similar PtRu loadings and morphological structures) were deposited both on the MWCNTs and on the carbon. Cyclicvoltammetry results demonstrated that the MWCNT-supported PtRu catalyst exhibited a higher mass activity (mA mg(-1) of PtRu) for the methanol oxidation reaction than the carbon-supported PtRu under the condition that both catalysts possess more or less the same PtRu loadings, particle sizes, dispersions, and electrochemical surface area. The direct methanol fuel cell performance test data showed that MWCNT-supported PtRu catalysts yielded about 35-39% higher power densities than the carbon-supported PtRu.  相似文献

Direct methanol fuel cells(DMFCs) are very promising power source for stationary and portable miniature electric appliances due to its high efficiency and low emissions of pollutants. As the key material, catalysts for both cathode and anode face several problems which hinder the commercialization of DMFCs.In this review, we mainly focus on anode catalysts of DMFCs. The process and mechanism of methanol electrooxidation on Pt and Pt-based catalysts in acidic medium have been introduced. The influences of size effect and morphology on electrocatalytic activity are discussed though whether there is a size effect in MOR catalyst is under debate. Besides, the non Pt catalysts are also listed to emphasize though Pt is still deemed as the indispensable element in anode catalyst of DMFCs in acidic medium. Different catalyst systems are compared to illustrate the level of research at present. Some debates need to be verified with experimental evidences.  相似文献

In this study, total harmonic distortion (THD) analysis is put forward to illustrate nonlinear behavior of direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) anode. THD simulations by means of different methanol oxidation kinetics as well as its experimental validation are both carried out. It is shown that the THD model adopting a three-step methanol oxidation mechanism with Kauranen–Frumkin/Temkin kinetics can be used to illustrate the THD variation for DMFC anode qualitatively. The experimental THD response at the frequency range from 0.063 Hz to 0.4 Hz is identified as the reflection of the nonlinearity variation of those kinetic steps involving intermediates in the methanol oxidation. In such a frequency domain, THD value decrease monotonously with decreasing methanol concentration, which notices its accessibility on methanol concentration detection.  相似文献

A series of metal-organic frameworks MOF-808-X (6-connected) were synthesized by regulating the ZrOCl2·8H2O/1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (BTC) molar ratio (X) and tested for the direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from CO2 and CH3OH with 1,1,1-trimethoxymethane (TMM) as a dehydrating agent. The effect of the ZrOCl2·8H2O/BTC molar ratio on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance of MOF-808-X was investigated. Results showed that a proper ZrOCl2·8H2O/BTC molar ratio during MOF-808-X synthesis was fairly important to reduce the redundant BTC or zirconium clusters trapped in the micropores of MOF-808-X. MOF-808-4, with almost no redundant BTC or zirconium clusters trapped in the micropores, exhibited the largest surface area, micropore size, and the number of acidic-basic sites, and consequently showed the best activity among all MOF-808-X, with the highest DMC yield of 21.5% under the optimal reaction conditions. Moreover, benefiting from the larger micropore size, MOF-808-4 outperformed our previously reported UiO-66-24 (12-connected), which had even more acidic-basic sites and larger surface area than MOF-808-4, mainly because the larger micropore size of MOF-808-4 provided higher accessibility for the reactant to the active sites located in the micropores. Furthermore, a possible reaction mechanism over MOF-808-4 was proposed based on the in situ FT-IR results. The effects of different reaction parameters on DMC formation and the reusability of MOF-808-X were also studied.  相似文献

Platinum and ruthenium nanoparticles that are uniformly dispersed on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were synthesized by vacuum pyrolysis using Pt(acac)2 and Ru(acac)3 as the metal precursors. The resulting nanocomposites were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The Pt, Pt45Ru55, and Ru nanoparticles had mean diameters of 3.0 +/- 0.6, 2.7 +/- 0.6, and 2.5 +/- 0.4 nm and the same mole number as their metal precursors at 500 degrees C. The electrocatalytic activity of the Pt/MWNTs and PtRu/MWNTs was investigated at room temperature by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. All of the electrochemical results showed that the PtRu/MWNTs exhibited a high level of catalytic activity for methanol oxidation as a result of the large surface area of the supporting carbon nanotubes and the wide dispersion of the Pt and Ru nanoparticles. Compared with the Pt/MWNTs, the onset potential for methanol oxidation of the PtRu/MWNTs was significantly lower, and the ratio of the forward anodic peak current to the reverse anodic peak current during methanol oxidation was somewhat higher. The Pt45Ru55/MWNTs displayed the best electrocatalytic activity of all of the carbon-nanotube-supported Pt and PtRu catalysts.  相似文献

Several compositions of Pt-WO3 catalysts were synthesized and characterized for the electro-oxidation of methanol and CO. The surface morphologies of the catalysts were found to be dependent on the composition. X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results suggest a surface enrichment of WO3 in the codeposited Pt-WO3 catalysts. Cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry in methanol show an improvement in catalytic activity for the Pt-WO3 catalysts. A significant improvement in the poison tolerance toward CO and other organic intermediates was observed in the mixed metal-metal oxide catalyst. The catalytic performance of the different compositions was directly compared by normalization of the current to active sites. CO-stripping voltammetry suggests the involvement of WO3 in the catalytic process as opposed to a mere physical effect as suggested by previous work. A possible mechanism for this improvement is proposed based on the electrochemical data.  相似文献

Electro-oxidation of methanol was studied on titanium supported nanocrystallite Pt and Ptx-Sny catalysts prepared by electrodeposition techniques. Their electro-catalytic activities were studied in 0.5mol/L H2SO4 and compared to those of a smooth Pt, Pt/Pt and Pt-Sn/Pt electrodes. Platinum was deposited on Ti by galvanostatic and potentiostatic techniques. X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) techniques were applied in order to investigate the chemical composition and the phase structure of the modified electrodes. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to characterize the surface morphology and to correlate the results obtained from the two electrochemical deposition methods. Results show that modified Pt/Ti electrodes prepared by the two methods have comparable performance and enhanced catalytic activity towards methanol electro-oxidation compared to Pt/Pt and smooth Pt electrodes. Steady state Tafel plots experiments show a higher rate of methanol oxidation on a Pt/Ti catalyst than that on a smooth Pt.  Introduction of a small amount of Sn deposited with Pt improves the catalytic activity and the stability of prepared electrode with time as indicated from the cyclic votlammetry and the chronoamperometric experiments. The effect of variations in the composition for binary catalysts of the type Ptx-Sny/Ti towards the methanol oxidation reaction is reported. Consequently, the Ptx-Sny/Ti (x∶y (8∶1), molar ratio) catalyst is a very promising one for methanol oxidation.  相似文献
