The performance of orthogonal-frequency-division-multiplexing (OFDM) technology in the multimode fiber (MMF) optical communication system is investigated numerically. The mode dispersion in MMF is analyzed by utilizing the optical angular spectrum analysis method. Simulation results in terms of bit-error-rate (BER) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) show that the transmission distance can reach up to 2.5-km at 10− 3 BER for 40-Gb/s data. Results of different modulation formats further indicate that better performance can be achieved by adopting multi-level modulation format.  相似文献

In this paper, the performance evaluation of path-averaged soliton transmission link for various performance measures viz. OSNR, optical power, extinction ratio, bit error rate (BER) and Q factor at different levels of noise figure and values of pulse width (FWHM) has been carried out. The performance of soliton transmission link is studied, taking into account soliton interaction, amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise and noise figure. The model presented considers interaction in a random sequence of solitons and the effect of the ASE noise added in each amplification stage. The influence of ASE noise, noise figure and pulse width with different amplifier spacing on the BER and quality factor has been investigated. It has been shown that these play dominant roles in degrading the performance measures. We have demonstrated the capability of path-averaged (guiding-centre) soliton for a long-haul distance of 17,000 km at a bit rate of 10 Gbps without ASE effect and noise figure in each amplifier span length of 500 km. The average value of quality factor is found to be 16.6 dB and the average BER is of the order of 10−12 over the transmission distance of 17,000 km. Further, it has been investigated that a severe system penalty results on the inclusion of ASE effect and noise figure in order to achieve the same level of performance. Thus, the investigations ascertain that in order to maintain the same level of BER and Q factor, the amplifier spacing and total transmission distance reduce considerably.  相似文献

Subcarrier multiplexing (SCM) has been utilized for data transmission in high performance broadband in access networks which requires high transport capacity and throughput with guaranteed quality of service. In a transmitter employing SCM technique in an Intensity Modulation Direct Detection (IM-DD) system, laser source nonlinearity is an important issue of concern. This work investigates the sensitivity of resulting harmonic distortion (HD) and inter-modulation distortion (IMD) to changes in subcarrier amplitude, laser bias current operational parameters and laser quantum efficiency, laser active layer volume and laser carrier life time design parameters. Results show that IMD impairment mechanism is more dominant than HD mechanism. The spectrum analyser shows distinct difference in the frequency domain display of HD and IMD dominated systems. HD and IMD mechanisms show high sensitivity to carrier amplitude and active layer volume with a positively increasing slope gradient and high sensitivity to bias current and carrier life time with negatively decreasing slope gradients. Also these impairments are moderately sensitive to laser quantum efficiency. The investigations will help in identification of the most influencing operational and design parameters and their suitable values to be used to effectively reduce the influence of the source nonlinearity of SCM links.  相似文献

We demonstrate the transmission of a microwave frequency signal at 10 GHz over a 112-km urban fiber link based on a novel simple-architecture electronic phase compensation system. The key element of the system is the low noise frequency divider by 4 to differentiate the frequency of the forward signal from that of the backward one, thus suppressing the effect of Brillouin backscattering and parasitic reflection along the link. In terms of overlapping Allan deviation,the frequency transfer instability of 4.2 × 10~(-15) at 1-s integration time and 1.6 × 10~(-18) at one-day integration time was achieved. In addition, its sensitivity to the polarization mode dispersion in fiber is analyzed by comparing the results with and without laser polarization scrambling. Generally, with simplicity and robustness, the system can offer great potentials in constructing cascaded frequency transfer system and facilitate the building of fiber-based microwave transfer network.  相似文献

These experiments were designed to test the idea that nonlinearities in the auditory system can introduce a distortion component into the internal representation of the envelope of a sound, and to estimate the phase of the hypothetical distortion component. In experiment 1, a two-alternative forced-choice (2AFC) task with feedback was used to measure psychometric functions for detecting 5-Hz probe modulation of a 4-kHz sinusoidal carrier in the presence of a masker modulator with components at 50 and 55 Hz (m=0.3 for each component). Performance was measured as a function of the relative phase, delta[symbol see text], of the probe relative to the "venelope" (envelope of the envelope) of the masker. Performance was poorest for delta[symbol see text]= 135 degrees. In experiment 2, delta[symbol see text] was fixed at 135 degrees, m was set to 0.48 for each masker component, and psychometric functions for detecting probe modulation were measured using a 2AFC task without feedback. For small probe modulation depths (m approximately 0.03), the detectability index, d', was consistently negative, consistent with the existence of a weak distortion product which can "cancel" the probe modulation. The distortion component for the conditions of the experiment was estimated to have a phase of about -25 degrees relative to the venelope.  相似文献

By using the cascaded KDP crystals, the third harmonic generation (THG) of temporal phase modulated broadband laser is experimentally demonstrated in this paper. The spectral characteristic of the generated third harmonic waves is investigated in detail. The experimental results show that the cascaded crystals method is able to satisfy the acceptance bandwidth of broadband laser beam. In addition, the influence on the THG spectrum and THG conversion efficiency of the air spacing between the two cascaded crystals is experimentally studied and it is remarkable on THG spectrum but insignificant for THG conversion efficiency. The relatively ideal THG spectrum is obtained by the optimal parameter of air spacing and the stability of THG spectrum is very good in our experiment.  相似文献

When digital watermarking is used for piracy tracking, different watermarks are needed to be embedded into different distributions of a digital product. Based on double random phase encoding (DRPE) technique, cascaded-phases iterative algorithm and random-phase-shift algorithm, Chen et al. proposed a method to generate many different embedded watermarks from one reference watermark, while the embedded watermark can be recognized by testing the correlation between the recovered watermark and the original reference watermark. In this way, only the reference watermark instead of the embedded watermarks needs to be stored and managed. However, since the recovered watermark may be different from the embedded watermark, especially under any image processing, the correlation between the recovered watermark and the reference watermark may be different from the correlation between the embedded watermark and the reference watermark, which may result in wrong recognition. In this paper, the performance of Chen's method was analyzed with numerical simulations. The results indicated that, to correctly recognize the embedded watermark, the number of generated embedded watermarks with Chen's method is limited.  相似文献

基于单分析通道非分散红外(non-dispersive infrared, NDIR)气体分析技术, 提出一种单组分双分析通道气体检测方法. 根据SO2的红外吸收特征, 采用逐线积分气体吸收模型和方法, 选择洛伦兹展宽线型并考虑温度和气压对积分线强、线型的影响, 确定了两个分析通道的滤波参数.使用7.32 μm和4 μm波段分别反演小于等于 280 ppm与大于280 ppm的SO2浓度;使用最小二乘法, 以三阶多项式为拟合模型, 获得了两个分析通道的定标曲线.对系统的测量线性度、检测限和测量准确度进行了分析. 两个分析通道的联合可以实现约几ppm至10000 ppm的宽动态范围的SO2测量, 且系统测量线性度大于0.99, 测量误差小于5%.既克服了NDIR气体分析技术检测灵敏度和宽动态测量范围不能同时兼顾的缺陷, 良好的系统测量线性度还为多组分气体分析的干扰修正提供了非常必要的前提条件.  相似文献

We report a spatially modulated polarimetry scheme by using a zero-order vortex half-wave retarder(ZVHR)and a spatial Fourier analysis method.A ZVHR is employed to analyze the input polarized light and convert it into a vectorial optical field,and an analyzer is set after the ZVHR to form an hourglass intensity pattern due to the spatial polarization modulation.Then,the input light’s Stokes parameters can be calculated by spatial Fourier analysis of the hourglass pattern with a single shot.The working principle of the polarimeter has been analyzed by the Stokes-Mueller formalism,and some quantitative measuring experiments of different polarization states have been demonstrated.The experimental results indicate that the proposed polarimeter is accurate,robust,and simple to use.  相似文献

In this Letter,we propose a novel constellation-shaping carrier-less amplitude and phase(CAP) modulation scheme to alleviate the systematic nonlinearity in visible light communication(VLC) systems.A simple geometric transformation shaping method is employed to convert the normal square lattice constellation into multiple circular constellations.The feasibility and performance are investigated and experimentally demonstrated by a 1.25 Gb/s CAP-modulated VLC system.The results indicate that the circular constellation has better resistance to systematic nonlinearity compared with a rectangular constellation.The dynamic range of input signal peak-to-peak values promotes 20% at a low bias voltage nonlinear area and 50% at a high bias voltage nonlinear area.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first time constellation-shaping CAP has ever been reported in indoor high data rate VLC systems.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the impact of EDFA and SOA amplifiers over BER and Q-parameter of a Radio-over-Fiber (Rof) system consisting of two different system set-ups using direct- and external-laser modulation techniques. In this work, we also measured and compared the electric Rf power at receiver at different modulating Rf frequencies up to 20 GHz using two different optical amplifiers, i.e. EDFA and SOA. Further, we also compared the received electric Rf power at different optical powers without and with different optical amplifiers. An improvement of −11 dB (approx.) of received Rf power was observed using EDFA with the external modulation technique, on comparing with direct modulation.  相似文献

We have explored the performance of two “dark fibers” of a commercial telecommunication fiber link for a remote comparison of optical clocks. The two fibers, linking the Leibniz University of Hanover (LUH) with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, are connected in Hanover to form a total fiber length of 146 km. At PTB the performance of an optical frequency standard operating at 456 THz was imprinted to a cw transfer laser at 194 THz, and its frequency was transmitted over the fiber. In order to detect and compensate phase noise related to the optical fiber link we have built a low-noise optical fiber interferometer and investigated noise sources that affect the overall performance of the optical link. The frequency stability at the remote end has been measured using the clock laser of PTB’s Yb+ frequency standard operating at 344 THz. We show that the frequency of a frequency-stabilized fiber laser can be transmitted over a total fiber length of 146 km with a relative frequency uncertainty below 1×10−19, and short term frequency instability given by the fractional Allan deviation of σ y (τ)=3.3×10−15/(τ/s).  相似文献

A novel tunable and reconfigurable microwave photonic filter based on two cascaded modulators and a dispersive medium is proposed, theoretically discussed and experimentally demonstrated. A single-wavelength LD and a modulator (either a Mach-Zehnder modulator or a phase modulator which can avoid the dc bias drift problem) are used to obtain a multi-wavelength optical source. By adjusting the modulation frequency and the bias voltage on the modulators, the wavelength spacing and the relative amplitude of the optical tones change, thus making the filter tunable and reconfigurable. The experimental results show that the proposed filters have good tunability and reconfigurability and the mainlobe-to-sidelobe ratio of around 25 dB is achieved.  相似文献

This work presents a small-signal analysis for investigating the transmission performance of optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing signals with a directly modulated DFB laser (DML). The analysis shows the positive chirp of DMLs can intensify power fading after transmission with positive dispersion and provide power gain instead with negative dispersion. The power of subcarrier-to-subcarrier intermixing interference after square-law direct detection, however, is independent on the sign of dispersion.  相似文献

Can a shift in interaural phase between a subthreshold signal and an audible contralateral probe tone affect perception of the probe? To obtain an answer, an 800-Hz tone was presented to both ears. The tone was presented continuously to one ear (-25 to + 10 dB SL) and in a sequence of four bursts per trial to the other ear (+ 10 dB SL). Interaural phase was reversed for either the second or the fourth burst in a 2 AFC task. Interaural phase-shift detection threshold (65% correct) varied with the intensity of the continuous signal; across subjects, this threshold varied from -21 to + 1 dB SL. When a 300-or 500-Hz masking tone was added to the ear with the continuous signal, phase-shift detection accuracy depended primarily upon the sensation level of the signal rather than its sound pressure level. These findings demonstrate temporal encoding at signal levels well below hearing threshold.  相似文献

Optical phase conjugation (OPC) and distributed Raman amplifier (DRA) combination (OPC-DRA) is demonstrated as a potential enabling solution for simultaneous reduction of fiber non-linearities and dispersion compensation of a sub-carrier multiplexed (SCM) optical transmission link. The present work is focused on the use of OPC-DRA combination for system performance improvement in terms of composite second order distortion (CSO) and carrier to noise ratio (CNR) of the SCM link. The analysis further shows that, introduction of DRA with proper pumping scheme significantly reduce fiber non-linearity resulting in improvement of the system performance in terms of CNR, compared to the situation where only mid-way optical phase conjugation is used.  相似文献

This paper reports the effects of pre- and post-compensation using CRZ modulation format in long-haul WDM optical transmission link using wavelengths in three bandwidths viz. 1537.4; 1550; 1562.6 nm at per channel bit rates of 10 Gbit/s. It has been investigated here that optimization of dispersion map results in improved management of nonlinear effects in long-haul light wave systems operating in the quasi-linear regime. In addition, pre- and post-dispersion compensation was applied at the transmitter and receiver depending on the signal wavelength, which resulted in improvement of performance metrics viz. Q2 (dB), BER and OSNR over longer transmission distances. It is reported here that optimum values of Q2 dB of 17.1 dB, BER of 8.4933e−015 and OSNR of 30.1 dB are obtained at 1550 nm at a transmission distance of 7360 km with pre- and post-compensation using CRZ modulation format.  相似文献

Geometric quantum discord(GQD) and Berry phase between two charge qubits coupled by a quantum transmission line are investigated. We show how GQDs evolve and investigate their dependencies on the parameters of the system.We also calculate the energy and the Berry phase and compare them with GQD, finding that there are close connections between them.  相似文献
