Tunable CW laser oscillation of NdP5O14 at 1.3 μm

Low-threshold tunable cw laser oscillation is achieved at the⁴ F _3/2⁴ I _13/2 transition of NdP₅O₁₄. Continuous tunign over 1.8% of the central wavelenght is possible with 55 mW of absorbed pump power. At gain line maximum near 1.32 , the output power exceeded 1 mW. Pump threshold as low as 8 mW was observed. Reliable cw operation of the 1.3 m NdP₅O₁₄ laser pumped by a 15 mW AlGaAs laser diode is demonstrated.     

Efficient multiple-longitudinally diode laser pumped Nd:YAG slab laser

The operation of an eightfold longitudinally diode laser pumped 1.06m cw Nd:YAG slab laser is demonstrated. The 809 nm diode radiation is focused through a dichroic coating into each laser channel starting from the reflection points of the 1.06m beam in the slab crystal. At an absorbed pump power in the crystal of 2830 mW a maximum cw TEM₀₀ output of 1075 mW was achieved with a corresponding slope efficiency of 42.5%.     

Optically pumped lasers between high-lying states in the sodium dimer

More than 25 laser lines around 2.5 m from theC ¹ _u state to (3)¹ _g ⁺ and 7 laser lines around 0.9 m from the high-lying¹ _u state to (2)¹ _g ⁺ in the sodium dimer were detected using a nitrogen laser as the pumping source. A variable reflectivity output coupler for optically pumped far infrared lasers

In this paper we describe the design and performance of a variable reflectivity output coupler for optically pumped far infrared (FIR) lasers. The output coupler is a compact, tunable Michelson interferometer. The output coupling ratio (i.e. the Michelson transmission) is adjustable between 0 and 60% for laser line wavelengths between 110 and 500 m. This output coupler provides increased output power and flexibility, since it can be tuned to optimum coupling ratio for different laser lines. Beam profile measurements show that the Michelson output coupler produces a well collimated Gaussian laser beam.Design features are a) the use of 10 m reflection coated quartz vacuum window which acts as a dichroic mirror for the pump radiation and b) the high mechanical stability obtained by a leaf spring flexure mount of the movable Michelson mirror and by restricted alignment devices.     

FIR gain measurements in cw laser pumped CH3OD

Direct measurements of small signal and saturated gain in cw laser pumped CH₃OD are reported for three lasing transitions of 57 m, 82 m and 103 m. The 57 m transition has a measured gain of 0.6/m, the strongest gain in methanol reported so far. Moreover small gain saturation of this line makes it to be one of the strongest known cw FIR laser lines.     

Negative muon precession in nuclei with spin

Polarized negative muons were stopped in various materials containing nuclei with nonzero spin. The TF-SR precession signal of theF ⁺ hyperfine state (frequencyv ₊ > 0) was pronounced for ^–Li and ^–Be, faint for ^–Cl (in NiCl₂), and undetectable for ^–F (in CaF₂ or NiF₂) and ^–P. TheF ^– signal (frequencyv _– < 0) was observed clearly for ^–Be, ^–Al and ^–Na, marginally for ^–K, ^–V and ^–Nb, and not at all for ^–Ga (at 4 kOe) or ^–Co (ferrromagnetic, zero field). In the heavier elements theF ^– signal is fed by transitions from theF ⁺ to theF ^– state at a rateR, as long asR(v ₊ –v _–). Millimeter wave propagation through a chiral medium model of human trunk

That millimeter wave propagation through a chiral medium of human trunk has been discussed by obtaining the electromagnetic filed, absorbent power, specific absorption rate, temperature field and their distribution in a human trunk model with plane strati calate homogeneous tissues under a normal incidence plane wave. The chiral medium is described electromagnetically by the constitutive relationsD=E+B andB=H+E. The constants, and ate real and have values that are fixed by the size, the shape, and the spatial distribution of the elements that collectively compose the medium. Also, the principle of thermal therapeutics for millimeter wave is discussed preliminaryly.     

Decomposition of many-body Schrödinger operators

The complex-dilated many-body Schrödinger operatorH(z) is decomposed on invariant subspaces associated with the cuts {+z ^–2 R ⁺}, where is any threshold, and isolated spectral points. The interactions are dilation-analytic multiplicative two-body potentials, decaying asr ^–1+ atr=0 and asr ^–1+ atr=.     

Depolarization ofμ + muons in GaAs single crystals

ASR study has been carried out on high resistivity single crystal gallium arsenide (GaAs). Three characteristic states involving the ⁺ muon (Mu^*, Mu, ⁺ were shown to exist in a binary semiconductor, similar to the case of elemental semiconductors.
