A method for the determination of uranium and 210Po in high salinity water samples has been elaborated. Both radionuclides are preconcentrated from 0.5 dm3 saline media by co-precipitation with hydrated manganese dioxide, followed by dissolution of the precipitate in 200 mL of 1 M HCl. Uranium isotopes 235U and 238U can be directly determined by ICP MS method with a detection limit of 0.01 ppb for 238U. Prior to a selective determination of 210Po, the majority of other naturally occurring α-emitting radionuclides (uranium, thorium and protactinium) can be stripped from this solution by their extraction with a 50% solution of HDEHP in toluene. Finally, 210Po is simply separated by direct transfer to an extractive scintillator containing 5% of trioctylphosphine oxide in Ultima Gold F cocktail and determined by an α/β separation liquid scintillation technique with detection limit below 0.1 mBq/dm3.  相似文献

The treatment of cancer patients with α-particle-emitting therapeutics continues to gain in importance and relevance. The range of radiopharmaceutically relevant α-emitters is limited to a few radionuclides, as stable chelators or carrier systems for safe transport of the radioactive cargo are often lacking. Encapsulation of α-emitters into solid inorganic systems can help to diversify the portfolio of candidate radionuclides, provided, that these nanomaterials effectively retain both the parent and the recoil daughters. We therefore focus on designing stable and defined nanocarrier-based systems for various clinically relevant radionuclides, including the promising α-emitting radionuclide 224Ra. Hence, sub-10 nm barium sulfate nanocontainers were prepared and different radiometals like 89Zr, 111In, 131Ba, 177Lu or 224Ra were incorporated. Our system shows stabilities of >90 % regarding the radiometal release from the BaSO4 matrix. Furthermore, we confirm the presence of surface-exposed amine functionalities as well as the formation of a biomolecular corona.  相似文献

Knowledge of soil–plant transfer of naturally occurring radionuclides can be essential to assure an adequate radiological protection. Available data are mainly for anthropogenic radionuclides and biased for temperate climates. Wheat plantlets were grown using soil collected in Mediterranean regions and transfer factors, TF, for 234,238U, 226Ra, 210Po and stable elements (K, Na, Ca and Mg) were determined. U, Ra and Po were mainly located in roots. Calcium presented the highest TF values, whereas for radionuclides were much lower. Uranium TFs were correlated with total and exchangeable potassium concentration in soil. Calcium and radium TFs were correlated with total calcium concentration in soil.

The deliberate poisoning of A. Litvinenko in London in late 2006 with 210Po, attracted attention to the difficulties in identifying internal contamination with alpha emitting radionuclides and to the limited knowledge available on the cycling of many naturally occurring radioisotopes in the body and their baseline concentration values in humans. To cope with the emergency caused by the spread of high 210Po activity, which contaminated several people and places in London, we were called upon to analyze urine samples in potentially contaminated people. A reference group of adult humans was also selected for determination of baseline 210Po values to be used for comparative purposes. Concentrations of 210Po in urine samples from three Portuguese citizens that have been at contaminated places, in London, ranged from 2.3 to 4.1 mBq·L−1 while in the reference group 210Po concentrations ranged from 0.5 to 4.8 mBq·L−1. Analytical quality of results was ensured through participation in an international inter laboratory comparison exercise on 210Po determination in aqueous samples. Results indicated that people potentially exposed to 210Po in London were not internally contaminated with the radionuclide used as a poisoning agent, and the levels of this radionuclide measured in the urine were similar to the naturally occurring levels in the reference group. Polonium levels in urine and in man are discussed in the light of 210Po levels in the human diet.  相似文献

Radiochemical procedures for the analysis of 210 Pb and 210 Po in foods and diets are presented. Because of the low beta energy of 210 Pb, its analysis was based on a separation of the daughter radionuclide 210 Bi by precipitation of lead sulphate, 210 Bi ingrowing and beta counting of this nuclide. 210 Po analysis was based on wet dissolution of the sample, deposition onto silver disc and counting by alpha-spectrometry. Levels of these radionuclides in individual items and diets of selected university students were determined in order to evaluate the intakes of 210 Pb and 210 Po as well as the dose due to ingestion of foods and diets in São Paulo city.  相似文献

The concentration of two important radionuclides: 210Pb and its decay product 210Po in the urban air in the center of the Polish city of Lodz were measured during the winter and spring seasons of 2008–2009. Urban airborne particulate matter was collected using two methods: an Anderson 9-stage impactor, and a high-volume aerosol sampler type ASS500 working in the frames of the aerosol sampling network in Poland, established for radionuclide monitoring. Average concentrations for 10 months sampling period for 210Pb and 210Po were 0.556 and 0.067 mBq/m3, respectively. However remarkable fluctuations due to meteorological condition were observed: from 0.010 to 0.431 mBq/m3 for 210Po and from 0.167 to 1.847 mBq/m3 for 210Pb. The highest concentrations, almost 60% of the total activities, of both radionuclides were found in the first two fine aerosol fractions with particle diameters below 0.36 μm. The aerosol residence times calculated from the 210Po/210Pb ratio ranged from 7 to 120 days.  相似文献

The paper deals with distribution of 210Po and 210Pb radionuclides in a vertical profile of illuviated soil, in Madikeri taluk of Coorg district, Karnataka, India. The activity concentration of 210Po and 210Pb radionuclides was determined using radioanalytical method and the dependence of these radionuclides on physico-chemical parameters of soil was also investigated through a statistical study. In all the layers of the soil in a vertical profile, the 210Po nuclides were found to be in disequilibrium with 210Pb. The frequency distribution of 210Po and 210Pb radionuclides was analysed using Kolgomorov–Smirnov test.

Soil and plants of South India were analysed using standard methods for equilibrium state between radionuclides 226Ra, 210Pb, and 210Po of uranium series. A disequilibrium state was observed, with mean 210Pb/226Ra, 210Po/226Ra, and 210Po/210Pb as 21.71, 5.52, and 0.40; 10.01, 4.21, and 0.43; and 30.86, 9.34, and 0.35 in Coastal Karnataka, Malnad Karnataka, and Malnad Kerala, respectively. 210Po/210Pb in soil was 0.29, 0.30, and 0.49 respectively, for the three regions. Unsupported 210Pb and 210Po might have caused the observed disequilibrium state. The investigation helps to monitor radionuclide distribution and dynamics in soil and plants of the study area.

All commercially available mineral waters of Austrian origin were investigated with regard to the natural radionuclides 228Ra, 226Ra, 210Pb, 210Po, 238U and 234U. From 1 to 1.5 L of sample the nuclides were extracted and measured sequentially: the radium isotopes as well as 210Pb were measured by liquid scintillation counting after separation on a membrane loaded with element-selective particles (Empore Radium Disks), 210Po was determined by α-particle spectroscopy after spontaneous deposition onto a copper planchette and uranium was determined also by α-particle spectroscopy after anion separation and microprecipitation with NdF3. The calculated committed effective doses for adults, teens and babies were compared to the total indicative dose of 0.1 mSv/year given in the EC Drinking Water Directive. The dominant portion of the committed effective dose was due to 228Ra. Highly mineralised waters showed also higher 226Ra and 228Ra levels.  相似文献

A new Reference Material (RM) for radionuclides in mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from the Mediterranean Sea (IAEA-437) is described and the results of the certification process are presented. Four radionuclides (40K, 234U, 238U, and 239+240Pu) have been certified, and information values on massic activities with 95% confidence intervals are given for nine radionuclides (137Cs, 210Pb(210Po), 226Ra, 228Ra, 228Th, 230Th, 232Th, 235U, and 241Am). Results for less frequently reported radionuclides (90Sr, 129I, 238Pu, 239Pu, and 240Pu) are also reported. The RM can be used for quality assurance/quality control of the analysis of radionuclides in mussel samples, for the development and validation of analytical methods and for training purposes. The material is available in 200 g units.  相似文献

Concentrations of U, Th, Ra, Pb, and Po were determined in native vegetation and underlying substrate (soil and tailings) at various sites around a conventional open pit, acid leach uranium production operation in the Western United States. Radionuclide concentrations in substrate and vegetation were generally elevated above background at all sites disturbed by mining and milling activities. Observed plant/soil CR values for vegetation growing on exposed, weathered tailings were ordered as follows:238U>230Th>210Po,226Ra>210Pb. We suspect that in the case of sulfuric acid leached tailings, Ra and Pb are sequestered as sulfates, which are highly insoluble relative to U and Th sulfates, resulting in reduced availability for plant uptake. Soil acidity and the saturation condition at the tailings impoundment edge tend to enhance radionuclide availability for plant uptake. The transport of radionuclides to foliage and subsequent retention and absorption may play a role in plant contamination.  相似文献

The distribution of the naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 232Th, 226Ra, 40K and 210Po and an anthropogenic radionuclide 137Cs in foodstuff, indicator organism sediment and soil samples in Emendere thermal spring area in western Anatolia were studied by alpha- and gamma-spectrometry. At the same time, the gross- and concentrations are also determined in the mentioned samples and the thermal spring and other water samples. The results obtained showed that Emendere thermal spring and Emendere stream waters are unsuitable for consumption as drinking purpose. On the other hand, the people who live around the thermal spring area face no risk with consumption of the foodstuffs.  相似文献

Phosphogypsum is a high volume by-product from the phosphoric acidindustries containing naturally occurring radionuclides. Envisaging the usesof phosphogypsum, a characterization of this material in terms of spatialdistribution of radionuclides was carried out by core samples taken from stacksof two important Brazilian phosphoric acid facilities. Samples were analyzedfor 238U, 234U, 232Th, 226Ra, 228Ra, 210Pb and 210Po using alpha- and gamma-spectrometryand UV-VIS spectrophotometry. Specific activities of 238U, 234U, 226 Ra and 210Po obtained were comparablewith data reported in the phosphogypsum literature, while higher values werefound for 232 Th and 228Ra.  相似文献

Activity concentrations of radionuclides,7Be,210Pb and210Po, in precipitation (rain, throughfall and stemflow), wood and soil were determined by using gamma-ray and alpha-ray spectrometry to estimate the migration behavior of these radionuclides in the forest canopy. The activity ratios between output and input precipitations for the forest canopy were 0.53 of7Be, 0.79 of210Pb and 1.5 of210Po for Pasania edulis forest. A dynamic model of the transport and fate of radionuclides in the forest ecosystem was constructed. Mean residence times of radionuclides were 56 days for7Be, 765 days for210Pb and 653 days for210Po for Pasania edulis forest.  相似文献

The results from a proficiency test exercise for the determination of natural levels of radionuclides in mushroom reference material carried out by laboratories in six different countries are discussed. These laboratories submitted data on seven radionuclides, namely 134Cs, 137Cs, 40K, 90Sr, 241Am, 226Ra, and 210Po. However, only the data received for three of these radionuclides could be statistically evaluated to obtain consensus mean values and confidence intervals (at a significance level of 0.05). The contents of 134Cs, 137Cs and 40K were quantified as 4.4, 2,899 and 1,136 Bq/kg, respectively.  相似文献

The activity of 210Po and 210Pb was measured in different matrices of aquatic ecosystem of the major rivers of Coastal Karnataka viz, Kali, Sharavathi and Netravathi. The environmental samples such as surface water, suspended particulate matter and sediment have been subjected to analyses. The activity of these two radionuclides were determined by radiochemical separation of 210Po and counting the activity using a ZnS(Ag) alpha counter. The activity ratio of 210Po and 210Pb and correlation between the activity of these radionuclides were studied. From the measured concentration of 210Po and 210Pb, the internal Committed Effective Dose to the population for the study area was calculated. The distribution coefficient Kd between water, suspended particulate matter and sediments have been calculated to understand the distribution and accumulation of these radionuclides in different matrices of the aquatic environment.

Transfer Factors (Fv) of 238U, 226Ra, 234Th, 210Po and 210Pb from five different agricultural soils in semi-arid region (Syria) to four different barley genotypes were studied in an agricultural potted experiment. The geometric mean of the Fv values were (0.08) for 210Pb, and (0.02) for 210Po, while it ranged from 0.18 to 0.42 ,from 0.08 to 0.15 and from 0.22 to 0.4 for 238U, 234Th and 226Ra, respectevily. The Fv values of 238U and 226Ra were within the recommended global medians, while the Fv values of 234Th, 210Pb and 210Po were higher. There is no clear relationship between the soil properties and Fv of all studied radionuclides to barley genotypes. Moreover, the expression of glutathione (GSH) gene, which is belived to be involoved in heavy metal removal was generally low in all studied varieties grown in all soil types.

A method for210Po determination in air is developed which includes sucking of known volume of air through aerosol filter typ AFA-XA, wet combustion of the filter by a mixture of conc. H2SO4 and conc. HNO3, deposition of210Po on nickel plate from hydrochloric acid solution at 90°C. The chemical yield is (90.7±5.4)% and radioisotope purity of the final sample (concerning α-emitters) fully satisfactory. If 3 m3 air is sucked the detection limit is 10−17 Cf210Po/1 air.  相似文献
