Adopting a two-temperature and two-velocity model, appropriate to a bidisperse porous medium (BDPM) proposed by Nield and
Kuznetsov (2008), the classical steady, mixed convection boundary layer flow about a horizontal, isothermal circular cylinder
embedded in a porous medium has been theoretically studied in this article. It is shown that the boundary layer analysis leads
to expressions for the flow and heat transfer characteristics in terms of an inter-phase momentum parameter, a thermal diffusivity
ratio, a thermal conductivity ratio, a permeability ratio, a modified thermal capacity ratio, and a buoyancy or mixed convection
parameter. The transformed partial differential equations governing the flow and heat transfer in the f-phase (the macro-pores)
and the p-phase (the remainder of the structure) are solved numerically using a very efficient implicit finite-difference
technique known as Keller-box method. A good agreement is observed between the present results and those known from the open
literature in the special case of a traditional Darcy formulation (monodisperse system). 相似文献

A numerical study of mixed convection in a vertical channel filled with a porous medium including the effect of inertial forces
is studied by taking into account the effect of viscous and Darcy dissipations. The flow is modeled using the Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended
Darcy equations. The two boundaries are considered as isothermal–isothermal, isoflux–isothermal and isothermal–isoflux for
the left and right walls of the channel and kept either at equal or at different temperatures. The governing equations are
solved numerically by finite difference method with Southwell–Over–Relaxation technique for extended Darcy model and analytically
using perturbation series method for Darcian model. The velocity and temperature fields are obtained for various porous parameter,
inertia effect, product of Brinkman number and Grashof number and the ratio of Grashof number and Reynolds number for equal
and different wall temperatures. Nusselt number at the walls is also determined for three types of thermal boundary conditions.
The viscous dissipation enhances the flow reversal in the case of downward flow while it counters the flow in the case of
upward flow. The Darcy and inertial drag terms suppress the flow. It is found that analytical and numerical solutions agree
very well for the Darcian model.

A two-velocity two-temperature model for bi-dispersed porous media is formulated. Using the model, an analytic solution is obtained for the problem of forced convection in a channel between parallel plane walls that are held either at uniform temperature or uniform heat flux. In each case, Nusselt number values are given as functions of a conductivity ratio, a velocity ratio, a volume fraction, and an internal heat exchange parameter. 相似文献

An analysis is made of the transient free convection from a vertical flat plate which is embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium. It is assumed that for time
a steady state temperature or velocity has been obtained in the boundary-layer which occurs due to a uniform flux dissipation rate

the heat flux on the plate is suddenly changed to

. An analytical solution has been obtained for the temperature/velocity field for small times in which the transport effects are confined within an inner layer adjacent to the plate. These effects cause a new steady boundary layer. A numerical solution of the full boundary-layer equations is then obtained for the whole transient from
to the steady state, firstly by means of a step-by-step method and then by a matching technique. The transition between the two distinct solution methods is always observed to occur very near to the turning point of the plate surface temperature, a time at which the fluid temperature is close to its steady state profile. The solution obtained using the step-by-step method shows excellent agreement with the small time analytical solution. Results are presented to illustrate the occurrence of transients from both small and large increases and decreases in the levels of existing energy inputs. 相似文献

A fully developed mixed convection flow between inclined parallel flat plates filled with a porous medium is considered through
which there is a constant flow rate and with heat being supplied to the fluid by the same uniform heat flux on each plate.
The equations governing this flow are made non-dimensional and are seen to depend on two dimensionless parameters, a mixed
convection parameter λ and the Péclet number Pe, as well as the inclination γ of the plates to the horizontal. The velocity and temperature profiles are obtained in terms of λ, Pe and γ when the channel is inclined in an upwards direction as well as for horizontal channels. The limiting cases of small and
large λ and small Pe are considered with boundary-layer structures being seen to develop on the plates for large values of λ. 相似文献

The validity of the local thermal equilibrium assumption in the transient forced convection channel flow is investigated analytically. Closed form expressions are presented for the temperatures of the fluid and solid domains and for the criterion which insures the validity of the local thermal equilibrium assumption. It is found that four dimensionless parameters control the local thermal equilibrium assumption. These parameters are the porosity , the volumetric Biot number Bi, the dimensionless channel length max and the solid to fluid total thermal capacity ratio C
R. The qualitative and quantitative aspects of the effects of these four parameters on the channel thermal equilibrium relaxation time are investigated. 相似文献

Fully developed laminar forced convection inside a semi-circular channel filled with a Brinkman-Darcy porous medium is studied.
Analytical solutions for flow and constant flux heat transfer are found using a mixture of Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates.
The problem depends on a parameter s, which is proportional to the inverse square of the Darcy number. Velocity boundary layers exist when s is large. Both friction factor-Reynolds number product and Nusselt number are determined. Closed form expressions for the
clear fluid () limit are found. Rare analytical solutions not only describe fundamental channel flows, but also serve as a check for more
complicated numerical solutions. 相似文献

Calculated free convection flows and heat transfer are presented for concentric spherical annular sectors, filled with a porous medium. Two isothermal walls and an adiabatic radial wall at the sector angle define the sectors. The governing equations (in the stream function and temperature formulation) are solved numerically using ADI (alternative direction implicit) finite-difference method. Over the range of geometric parameters examined, the obtained results for spherical annuli and low Rayleigh number Ra. As Ra increases, multicellular flows develop for small values of the aspect ratio parameter . In addition, analytical solutions of the governing equations were obtained for small values of Ra (1) and it was shown that these solutions agree well with those obtained numerically. Significant differences in the local heat transfer rates on the inner and outer walls of the spherical annuli were observed from these solutions. 相似文献

Mixed convection induced in the entrance region of a horizontal plane channel by a bottom heat source of finite dimensions is considered. The calculations were performed for the Prandtl number Pr = 1, Grashof numbers ranging from 4 · 103 to 3.2 · 104, and Reynolds numbers varying from 0 to 10. The dimensions of the heat source and its location were also varied. The results were obtained from a numerical solution of the 2D unsteady Navier-Stokes equations in the Boussinesq approximation, written in vorticity – stream function – temperature variables. The solution was found by the Galerkin finite element method. 相似文献

Effects of Viscous Dissipation and Flow Work on Forced Convection in a Channel Filled by a Saturated Porous Medium 总被引:1,自引:3,他引:1
Fully developed forced convection in a parallel plate channel filled by a saturated porous medium, with walls held either at uniform temperature or at uniform heat flux, with the effects of viscous dissipation and flow work included, is treated analytically. The Brinkman model is employed. The analysis leads to expressions for the Nusselt number, as a function of the Darcy number and Brinkman number. 相似文献

In this paper, the problem of fully developed forced convection in a parallel-plate channel partly filled with a homogeneous porous material is considered. The porous material is attached to the walls of the channel, while the center of the channel is occupied by clear fluid. The flow in the porous material is described by a nonlinear Brinkman–Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation. Utilizing the boundary-layer approach, analytical solutions for the flow velocity, the temperature distribution, as well as for the Nusselt number are obtained. Dependence of the Nusselt number on several parameters of the problem is extensively investigated. 相似文献

The mixed convection caused when a horizontal circular cylinder is suddenly heated is investigated in the situation when the initial flow past the cylinder is uniform and its direction either upwards or downwards. An analytical series solution, which is valid at small times, is obtained using the matched asymptotic expansions technique. A numerical solution, which is valid at all times and for any values of the Rayleigh and Péclet numbers, is also obtained using a fully implicit finite-difference method. Three different regimes, when either the free or forced convection is dominant or when they have the same order of magnitude, are considered. In the free convection dominated regime, two vortices develop near the sides of the cylinder in both situations of an upward or downward external flow. Comparisons between the analytical and numerical results at small times, as well as a detailed discussion of the evolution of the numerical solution are presented. The numerical results obtained for large Rayleigh, Ra, and Péclet Pe, numbers show that a thermal boundary-layer forms adjacent to the cylinder for any value of the ratio Ra/e. The steady state boundary-layer analysis, similar to that performed by Cheng and Merkin, is analysed in comparison to the numerical solution obtained for large values of Ra and Pe at very large times. 相似文献

In the present work, the effect of mixed convection about vertical surfaces on the phenomenon of melting process in a fluid-saturated porous medium is analyzed on the basis of boundary layer approximations. Similarity solutions are obtained for aiding external flow. The final similarity equations are integrated numerically by use of the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method. Results are reported for the flow and thermal fields in the melt region. The melting phenomenon decreases the local Nusselt number at the solid–liquid interface. 相似文献

A perturbation approach is used to obtain analytical expressions for the velocity, temperature distribution, and transient
Nusselt number for the problem of forced convection, in a parallel-plates channel or a circular tube occupied by a saturated
porous medium modeled by the Brinkman equation, produced by an applied pressure gradient that fluctuates with small amplitude
harmonically in time about a non-zero mean. It is shown that the fluctuating part of this Nusselt number alters in magnitude
and phase as the dimensionless frequency increases. The magnitude increases from zero, goes through a peak, and then decreases
to zero. The height of the peak decreases as the modified Prandtl number increases. The phase (relative to that of the steady
component) decreases from π/2 to − π/2. The height of the peak at first increases, goes through a maximum, and then decreases
as the Darcy number decreases. 相似文献

Despite the widespread use of the Darcy equation to model porous flow, it is well known that this equation is inconsistent
with commonly prescribed no slip conditions at flow domain walls or interfaces between different sections. Therefore, in cases
where the wall effects on the flow regime are expected to be significant, the Darcy equation which is only consistent with
perfect slip at solid boundaries, cannot predict velocity and pressure profiles properly and alternative models such as the
Brinkman equation need to be considered. This paper is devoted to the study of the flow of a Newtonian fluid in a porous medium
between two impermeable parallel walls at different Darcy parameters (Da). The flow regime is considered to be isothermal and steady. Three different flow regimes can be considered using the Brinkman
equation: free flow (Da > 1), porous flow (high permeability, 1 > Da > 10−6) and porous flow (low permeability Da < 10−6). In the present work the described bench mark problem is used to study the effects of solid walls for a range of low to
high Darcy parameters. Both no-slip and slip conditions are considered and the results of these two cases are compared. The
range of the applicability of the Brinkman equation and simulated results for different cases are shown. 相似文献

This paper presents an analytical and numerical study of transient free convection from a horizontal surface that is embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium. It is assumed that for time
steady state velocity and temperature fields are obtained in the boundary-layer which occurs due to a uniform flux dissipation rate q

the heat flux on the surface is suddenly changed to q

. Firstly, solutions which are valid for small and large

) until such times at which this forward marching approach is no longer well posed. Beyond this time no valid solutions could be obtained which matched the final solution from the forward integration to the steady state profiles at large times

In this paper the problem of mixed convection on a moving vertical cylinder with suction in a moving micropolar fluid medium
has been investigated, using finite element method. The effect of important parameters, namely micropolar parameter, suction
parameter and velocity coefficient parameter have been discussed on the velocity, microrotation and temperature functions
when the velocity of the cylinder is greater than the free stream velocity. Skin friction and the Nusselt number have also
been computed, which are given in the table. The temperature distribution is effected moderately by the motion of the cylinder
as well with the buoyancy parameter. 相似文献

The steady mixed convection boundary-layer flow over a vertical impermeable surface in a porous medium saturated with water
close to its maximum density is considered for uniform wall temperature and outer flow. The problem can be reduced to similarity
form and the resulting equations are examined in terms of a mixed convection parameter λ and a parameter δ which measures
the difference between the ambient temperature and the temperature at the maximum density. Both assisting (λ > 0) and opposing
flows (λ < 0) are considered. A value δ0 is found for which there are dual solutions for a range λc < λ < 0 of λ (the value of λc dependent on δ) and single solutions for all λ ≥ 0. Another value of δ1 of δ, with δ1 > δ0, is found for which there are dual solutions for a range 0 < λ < λc of positive values of λ, with solutions for all λ≤ 0. There is also a range δ0 < δ < δ1 where there are solutions only for a finite range of λ, with critical points at both positive and negative values of λ, thus
putting a finite limit on the range of existence of solutions. 相似文献

The method of non-similarity solution is used to study the influence of thermal dispersion on combined convection from vertical surfaces in a porous medium saturated with a power-law type non-Newtonian fluid. The coefficient of thermal diffusivity has been assumed to be the sum of molecular diffusivity and the dispersion thermal diffusivity due to mechanical dispersion. The transformed conservation laws are solved numerically for the case of variable surface heat flux conditions. Results for the details of the velocity and temperature fields as well as the Nusselt number have been presented. 相似文献

A regular two-parameter perturbation analysis based upon the boundary layer approximation is presented here to study the radiative effects of both first- and second-order resistances due to a solid matrix on the natural convection flows in porous media. Four different flows have been studied, those adjacent to an isothermal surface, a uniform heat flux surface, a plane plume and the flow generated from a horizontal line energy source on a vertical adiabatic surface. The first-order perturbation quantities are presented for all these flows. Numerical results for the four conditions with various radiation parameters are tabulated. 相似文献
