The adsorption and the mechanism of the oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) of propane over VO2‐exchanged MCM‐22 are investigated by DFT calculations using the M06‐L functional, which takes into account dispersion contributions to the energy. The adsorption energies of propane are in good agreement with those from computationally much more demanding MP2 calculations and with experimental results. In contrast, B3LYP binding energies are too small. The reaction begins with the movement of a methylene hydrogen atom to the oxygen atom of the VO2 group, which leads to an isopropyl radical bound to a HO? V? O intermediate. This step is rate determining with the apparent activation energy of 30.9 kcal mol?1, a value within the range of experimental results for ODH over other silica supports. In the propene formation step, the hydroxyl group is the more reactive group requiring an apparent activation energy of 27.7 kcal mol?1 compared to that of the oxy group of 40.8 kcal mol?1. To take the effect of the extended framework into account, single‐point calculations on 120T structures at the same level of theory are performed. The apparent activation energy is reduced to 28.5 kcal mol?1 by a stabilizing effect caused by the framework. Reoxidation of the catalyst is found to be important for the product release at the end of the reaction.  相似文献

In this work, a density function theory (DFT) study is presented for the HNS/HSN isomerization assisted by 1–4 water molecules on the singlet state potential energy surface (PES). Two modes are considered to model the catalytic effect of these water molecules: (i) water molecule(s) participate directly in forming a proton transfer loop with HNS/HSN species, and (ii) water molecules are out of loop (referred to as out‐of‐loop waters) to assist the proton transfer. In the first mode, for the monohydration mechanism, the heat of reaction is 21.55 kcal · mol?1 at the B3LYP/6‐311++G** level. The corresponding forward/backward barrier lowerings are obtained as 24.41/24.32 kcal · mol?1 compared with the no‐water‐assisting isomerization barrier T (65.52/43.87 kcal · mol?1). But when adding one water molecule on the HNS, there is another special proton‐transfer isomerization pathway with a transition state 10T′ in which the water is out of the proton transfer loop. The corresponding forward/backward barriers are 65.89/65.89 kcal · mol?1. Clearly, this process is more difficult to follow than the R–T–P process. For the two‐water‐assisting mechanism, the heat of reaction is 19.61 kcal · mol?1, and the forward/backward barriers are 32.27/12.66 kcal · mol?1, decreased by 33.25/31.21 kcal · mol?1 compared with T. For trihydration and tetrahydration, the forward/backward barriers decrease as 32.00/12.60 (30T) and 37.38/17.26 (40T) kcal · mol?1, and the heat of reaction decreases by 19.39 and 19.23 kcal · mol?1, compared with T, respectively. But, when four water molecules are involved in the reactant loop, the corresponding energy aspects increase compared with those of the trihydration. The forward/backward barriers are increased by 5.38 and 4.66 kcal · mol?1 than the trihydration situation. In the second mode, the outer‐sphere water effect from the other water molecules directly H‐bonded to the loop is considered. When one to three water molecules attach to the looped water in one‐water in‐loop‐assisting proton transfer isomerization, their effects on the three energies are small, and the deviations are not more than 3 kcal · mol?1 compared with the original monohydration‐assisting case. When adding one or two water molecules on the dihydration‐assisting mechanism, and increasing one water molecule on the trihydration, the corresponding energies also are not obviously changed. The results indicate that the forward/backward barriers for the three in‐loop water‐assisting case are the lowest, and the surrounding water molecules (out‐of‐loop) yield only a small effect. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Thermal decomposition of cyclopentadiene to c‐C5H5 (cyclopentadienyl radical) + H (1) and the reverse bimolecular reaction (?1) are studied quantum‐chemically at the G2M level of theory. The dissociation pathway has been mapped out following the minimum energy path on the potential energy surface (PES) calculated by the density functional UB3LYP/6‐311G(d,p) method. Using isodesmic reaction analysis, the standard enthalpy of formation for c‐C5H5 is found to be 62.5 ± 1.3 kcal mol?1, and the c‐C5H5? H bond dissociation energy is estimated as D°298(c‐C5H5? H) = 82.5 ± 0.9 kcal mol?1, in excellent agreement with the recent experimental values. Variational rate constants are computed on the basis of a scaled UB3LYP dissociation potential that fits the isodesmic/experimental enthalpy of Reaction (1). At the high pressure limit, k1 = 1.55 × 1018 T?0.8 exp(?42300/T) s?1 and k?1 = 2.67 × 1014 exp(?245/T) cm3 mol?1 s?1. The fall‐off effects are evaluated by a weak collision master equation/RRKM analysis. Calculated T, P‐dependent rate constants are in very good agreement with the most reliable experimental measurements. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J Chem Kinet 36: 139–151 2004  相似文献

In this study, we investigated the C? H bond activation of methane catalyzed by the complex [PtCl4]2?, using the hybrid quantum mechanical/effective fragment potential (EFP) approach. We analyzed the structures, energetic properties, and reaction mechanism involved in the elementary steps that compose the catalytic cycle of the Shilov reaction. Our B3LYP/SBKJC/cc‐pVDZ/EFP results show that the methane activation may proceed through two pathways: (i) electrophilic addition or (ii) direct oxidative addition of the C? H bond of the alkane. The electrophilic addition pathway proceeds in two steps with formation of a σ‐methane complex, with a Gibbs free energy barrier of 24.6 kcal mol?1, followed by the cleavage of the C? H bond, with an energy barrier of 4.3 kcal mol?1. The activation Gibbs free energy, calculated for the methane uptake step was 24.6 kcal mol?1, which is in good agreement with experimental value of 23.1 kcal mol?1 obtained for a related system. The results shows that the activation of the C? H bond promoted by the [PtCl4]2? catalyst in aqueous solution occurs through a direct oxidative addition of the C? H bond, in a single step, with an activation free energy of 25.2 kcal mol?1, as the electrophilic addition pathway leads to the formation of a σ‐methane intermediate that rapidly undergoes decomposition. The inclusion of long‐range solvent effects with polarizable continuum model does not change the activation energies computed at the B3LYP/SBKJC/cc‐pVDZ/EFP level of theory significantly, indicating that the large EFP water cluster used, obtained from Monte Carlo simulations and analysis of the center‐of‐mass radial pair distribution function, captures the most important solvent effects. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Using density functional theory methods, we have studied carbon trioxide, its adsorption and dissociation on Ag(100). In the gas phase, two isomers are found, D3h and C2v, with the latter of 2.0 kcal mol?1 lower in energy at the PW91PW91/6?31G(d) level. For CO3 on Ag(100), the calculated adsorption energy is 91.2 and 89.1 kcal mol?1 for the bi‐coord perpendicular and tri‐coord parallel structures, respectively. Upon the adsorption, 0.50 ~ 0.56 electron is transferred from silver to CO3, indicative of significant ionic characters of the adsorbate‐surface bonding. In addition, the geometry of CO3 is largely changed by its strong interaction with silver. For CO3(ad) → O(ad) + CO2(gas), the energy barrier is calculated to be 19.8 kcal mol?1 through the bi‐coord path. The process is endothermic with an enthalpy change of +17.3 ~ +26.7 kcal mol?1 and the weakly chemisorbed CO2 is identified as an intermediate on the potential energy surface. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Modeling of the temperature‐dependent liquid entropy of ionic liquids (ILs) with great accuracy using COSMO‐RS is demonstrated. The minimum structures of eight IL ion pairs are investigated and the entropy, calculated from ion pairs, is found to differ on average only 2 % from the available experimental values (119 data points). For calculations with single ions, the average error amounts to 2.6 % and stronger‐coordinating ions tend to give higher deviations. Additionally, the first parameterization of the standard liquid entropy for ILs is presented in the context of traditional volume‐based thermodynamics (Sl0=1.585 kJ mol?1 K?1 nm?3?rm3+14.09 J mol?1 K?1), which sheds light on the statistical treatment of ionic interactions. The findings provide the first direct access to accurate predictions of liquid entropies of ILs, which are tedious and time‐consuming to measure.  相似文献

This paper reports the computed O2 binding to heme, which for the first time explains experimental enthalpies for this process of central importance to bioinorganic chemistry. All four spin states along the relaxed Fe? O2‐binding curves were optimized using the full heme system with dispersion, thermodynamic, and scalar‐relativistic corrections, applying several density functionals. When including all these physical terms, the experimental enthalpy of O2 binding (?59 kJ mol?1) is closely reproduced by TPSSh‐D3 (?66 kJ mol?1). Dispersion changes the potential energy surfaces and leads to the correct electronic singlet and heptet states for bound and dissociated O2. The experimental activation enthalpy of dissociation (~82 kJ mol?1) was also accurately computed (~75 kJ mol?1) with an actual barrier height of ~60 kJ mol?1 plus a vibrational component of ~10 and ~5 kJ mol?1 due to the spin‐forbidden nature of the process, explaining the experimentally observed difference of ~20 kJ mol?1 in enthalpies of binding and activation. Most importantly, the work shows how the nearly degenerate singlet and triplet states increase crossover probability up to ~0.5 and accelerate binding by ~100 times, explaining why the spin‐forbidden binding of O2 to heme, so fundamental to higher life forms, is fast and reversible.  相似文献

We report variational transition‐state theory calculations for the OH + O3→ HO2 + O2 reaction based on the recently reported double many‐body expansion potential energy surface for ground‐state HO4 [Chem Phys Lett 2000, 331, 474]. The barrier height of 1.884 kcal mol?1 is comparable to the value of 1.77–2.0 kcal mol?1 suggested by experimental measurements, both much smaller than the value of 2.16–5.11 kcal mol?1 predicted by previous ab initio calculations. The calculated rate constant shows good agreement with available experimental results and a previous theoretical dynamics prediction, thus implying that the previous ab initio calculations will significantly underestimate the rate constant. Variational and tunneling effects are found to be negligible over the temperature range 100–2000 K. The O1? O2 bond is shown to be spectator like during the reactive process, which confirms a previous theoretical dynamics prediction. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 39: 148–153, 2007  相似文献

2‐Furaldehyde (2‐FA), also known as furfural or 2‐furancarboxaldehyde, is an heterocyclic aldehyde that can be obtained from the thermal dehydration of pentose monosaccharides. This molecule can be considered as an important sustainable intermediate for the preparation of a great variety of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and furan‐based polymers. Despite the great importance of this molecule, its gas‐phase basicity (GB) has never been measured. In this work, the GB of 2‐FA was determined by the extended Cooks's kinetic method from electrospray ionization triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometric experiments along with theoretical calculations. As expected, computational results identify the aldehydic oxygen atom of 2‐FA as the preferred protonation site. The geometries of O‐O‐cis and O‐O‐trans 2‐FA and of their six different protomers were calculated at the B3LYP/aug‐TZV(d,p) level of theory; proton affinity (PA) values were also calculated at the G3(MP2, CCSD(T)) level of theory. The experimental PA was estimated to be 847.9 ± 3.8 kJ mol?1, the protonation entropy 115.1 ± 5.03 J mol?1 K?1 and the GB 813.6 ± 4.08 kJ mol?1 at 298 K. From the PA value, a ΔH°f of 533.0 ± 12.4 kJ mol?1 for protonated 2‐FA was derived. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Geometry, thermodynamic, and electric properties of the π‐EDA complex between hexamethylbenzene (HMB) and tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) are investigated at the MP2/6‐31G* and, partly, DFT‐D/6‐31G* levels. Solvent effects on the properties are evaluated using the PCM model. Fully optimized HMB–TCNE geometry in gas phase is a stacking complex with an interplanar distance 2.87 × 10?10 m and the corresponding BSSE corrected interaction energy is ?51.3 kJ mol?1. As expected, the interplanar distance is much shorter in comparison with HF and DFT results. However the crystal structures of both (HMB)2–TCNE and HMB–TCNE complexes have interplanar distances somewhat larger (3.18 and 3.28 × 10?10 m, respectively) than our MP2 gas phase value. Our estimate of the distance in CCl4 on the basis of PCM solvent effect study is also larger (3.06–3.16 × 10?10 m). The calculated enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs energy, and equilibrium constant of HMB–TCNE complex formation in gas phase are: ΔH0 = ?61.59 kJ mol?1, ΔS = ?143 J mol?1 K?1, ΔG0 = ?18.97 kJ mol?1, and K = 2,100 dm3 mol?1. Experimental data, however, measured in CCl4 are significantly lower: ΔH0 = ?34 kJ mol?1, ΔS = ?70.4 J mol?1 K?1, ΔG0 = ?13.01 kJ mol?1, and K = 190 dm3 mol?1. The differences are caused by solvation effects which stabilize more the isolated components than the complex. The total solvent destabilization of Gibbs energy of the complex relatively to that of components is equal to 5.9 kJ mol?1 which is very close to our PCM value 6.5 kJ mol?1. MP2/6‐31G* dipole moment and polarizabilities are in reasonable agreement with experiment (3.56 D versus 2.8 D for dipole moment). The difference here is due to solvent effect which enlarges interplanar distance and thus decreases dipole moment value. The MP2/6‐31G* study supplemented by DFT‐D parameterization for enthalpy calculation, and by the PCM approach to include solvent effect seems to be proper tools to elucidate the properties of π‐EDA complexes. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The equilibrium association free enthalpies ΔGa for typical supramolecular complexes in solution are calculated by ab initio quantum chemical methods. Ten neutral and three positively charged complexes with experimental ΔGa values in the range 0 to ?21 kcal mol?1 (on average ?6 kcal mol?1) are investigated. The theoretical approach employs a (nondynamic) single‐structure model, but computes the various energy terms accurately without any special empirical adjustments. Dispersion corrected density functional theory (DFT‐D3) with extended basis sets (triple‐ζ and quadruple‐ζ quality) is used to determine structures and gas‐phase interaction energies (ΔE), the COSMO‐RS continuum solvation model (based on DFT data) provides solvation free enthalpies and the remaining ro‐vibrational enthalpic/entropic contributions are obtained from harmonic frequency calculations. Low‐lying vibrational modes are treated by a free‐rotor approximation. The accurate account of London dispersion interactions is mandatory with contributions in the range ?5 to ?60 kcal mol?1 (up to 200 % of ΔE). Inclusion of three‐body dispersion effects improves the results considerably. A semilocal (TPSS) and a hybrid density functional (PW6B95) have been tested. Although the ΔGa values result as a sum of individually large terms with opposite sign (ΔE vs. solvation and entropy change), the approach provides unprecedented accuracy for ΔGa values with errors of only 2 kcal mol?1 on average. Relative affinities for different guests inside the same host are always obtained correctly. The procedure is suggested as a predictive tool in supramolecular chemistry and can be applied routinely to semirigid systems with 300–400 atoms. The various contributions to binding and enthalpy–entropy compensations are discussed.  相似文献

The vaporization kinetics of two acetamide pesticides, namely alachlor and metolachlor, was studied by thermogravimetric analysis under nonisothermal conditions (using heating rates between 1.0 and 10 K min?1). A model‐free isoconversional method of kinetic analysis was proposed, and activation energy dependences on the extent of conversion α for nonisothermal experiments were given. An increase in activation energy is shown for alachlor from 50 to 60 kJ mol?1, while E values do not significantly vary in the range α > 0.1: 63 kJ mol?1 for metolachlor while 60 kJ mol?1 for alachlor. At the end of vaporization (0.9 < α < 1.0), the activation energies are in close agreement with the enthalpies of vaporization calculated from DSC measurements. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A common feature of several classes of intrinsically reactive proteins with diverse biological functions is that they undergo self‐catalyzed reactions initiated by an N→O or N→S acyl shift of a peptide bond adjacent to a serine, threonine, or cysteine residue. In this study, we examine the N→O acyl shift initiated peptide‐bond hydrolysis at the serine residue on a model compound, glycylserine (GlySer), by means of DFT and ab initio methods. In the most favorable rate‐determining transition state, the serine ?COO? group acts as a general base to accept a proton from the attacking ?OH function, which results in oxyoxazolidine ring closure. The calculated activation energy (29.4 kcal mol?1) is in excellent agreement with the experimental value, 29.4 kcal mol?1, determined by 1H NMR measurements. A reaction mechanism for the entire process of GlySer dipeptide hydrolysis is also proposed. In the case of proteins, we found that when no other groups that may act as a general base are available, the N→O acyl shift mechanism might instead involve a water‐assisted proton transfer from the attacking serine ?OH group to the amide oxygen. However, the calculated energy barrier for this process is relatively high (33.6 kcal mol?1), thus indicating that in absence of catalytic factors the peptide bond adjacent to serine is no longer a weak point in the protein backbone. An analogous rearrangement involving the amide N‐protonated form, rather than the principle zwitterion form of GlySer, was also considered as a model for the previously proposed mechanism of sea‐urchin sperm protein, enterokinase, and agrin (SEA) domain autoproteolysis. The calculated activation energy (14.3 kcal mol?1) is significantly lower than the experimental value reported for SEA (≈21 kcal mol?1), but is still in better agreement as compared to earlier theoretical attempts.  相似文献

Enthalpy, activation energy, and rate constant of 9 alkyl, 3 acyl, 3 alkoxyl, and 9 peroxyl radicals with alkanethiols, benzenethiol, and L ‐cysteine are calculated. The intersection parabolas model is used for activation energy calculations. Depending on the structure of attacking radical, the activation energy of reactions with alkylthiols varies from 3 to 43 kJ mol?1 for alkyl radicals, from 7 to 9 kJ mol?1 for alkoxyl, and from 18 to 35 kJ mol?1 for peroxyl radicals. The influence of adjacent π‐bonds on activation energy is estimated. The polar effect is found in reactions of hydroxyalkyl and acyl radicals with alkylthiols. The steric effect is observed in reactions of alkyl radicals with tert‐alkylthiols. All these factors are characterized via increments of activation energy. Quantum chemical calculations of activation energy and geometry of transition state were performed for model reactions: C?H3 + CH3SH, CH3O? + CH3SH, and HO2? + CH3SH with using density functional theory and Gaussian‐98. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The spontaneous self‐assembly of a neutral circular trinuclear TiIV‐based helicate is described through the reaction of titanium(IV) isopropoxide with a rationally designed tetraphenolic ligand. The trimeric ring helicate was obtained after diffusion of n‐pentane into a solution with dichloromethane. The circular helicate has been characterized by using single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction study, 13C CP‐MAS NMR and 1H NMR DOSY solution spectroscopic, and positive electrospray ionization mass‐spectrometric analysis. These analytical data were compared with those obtained from a previously reported double‐stranded helicate that crystallizes in toluene. The trimeric ring was unstable in a pure solution with dichloromethane and transformed into the double‐stranded helicate. Thermodynamic analysis by means of the PACHA software revealed that formation of the double‐stranded helicates was characterized by ΔH(toluene)=?30 kJ mol?1 and ΔS(toluene)=+357 J K?1 mol?1, whereas these values were ΔH(CH2Cl2)=?75 kJ mol?1 and ΔS(CH2Cl2)=?37 J K?1 mol?1 for the ring helicate. The transformation of the ring helicate into the double‐stranded helicate was a strongly endothermic process characterized by ΔH(CH2Cl2)=+127 kJ mol?1 and ΔH(n‐pentane)=+644 kJ mol?1 associated with a large positive entropy change ΔS=+1115 J K?1?mol?1. Consequently, the instability of the ring helicate in pure dichloromethane was attributed to the rather high dielectric constant and dipole moment of dichloromethane relative to n‐pentane. Suggestions for increasing the stability of the ring helicate are given.  相似文献

A complete and consistent set of 60 Benson group additive values (GAVs) for oxygenate molecules and 97 GAVs for oxygenate radicals is provided, which allow to describe their standard enthalpies of formation, entropies and heat capacities. Approximately half of the GAVs for oxygenate molecules and the majority of the GAVs for oxygenate radicals have not been reported before. The values are derived from an extensive and accurate database of thermochemical data obtained by ab initio calculations at the CBS‐QB3 level of theory for 202 molecules and 248 radicals. These compounds include saturated and unsaturated, α‐ and β‐branched, mono‐ and bifunctional oxygenates. Internal rotations were accounted for by using one‐dimensional hindered rotor corrections. The accuracy of the database was further improved by adding bond additive corrections to the CBS‐QB3 standard enthalpies of formation. Furthermore, 14 corrections for non‐nearest‐neighbor interactions (NNI) were introduced for molecules and 12 for radicals. The validity of the constructed group additive model was established by comparing the predicted values with both ab initio calculated values and experimental data for oxygenates and oxygenate radicals. The group additive method predicts standard enthalpies of formation, entropies, and heat capacities with chemical accuracy, respectively, within 4 kJ mol?1 and 4 J mol?1 K?1 for both ab initio calculated and experimental values. As an alternative, the hydrogen bond increment (HBI) method developed by Lay et al. (T. H. Lay, J. W. Bozzelli, A. M. Dean, E. R. Ritter, J. Phys. Chem. 1995 , 99, 14514) was used to introduce 77 new HBI structures and to calculate their thermodynamic parameters (ΔfH°, S°, Cp°). The GAVs reported in this work can be reliably used for the prediction of thermochemical data for large oxygenate compounds, combining rapid prediction with wide‐ranging application.  相似文献

The interactions in the complexes of tetracyanothylene (TCNE) with benzene and p‐xylene, often classified as weak electron donor–acceptor (EDA) complexes, are investigated by a range of quantum chemical methods including intermolecular perturbation theory at the DFT‐SAPT (symmetry‐adapted perturbation theory combined with density functional theory) level and explicitly correlated coupled‐cluster theory at the CCSD(T)‐F12 level. The DFT‐SAPT interaction energies for TCNE–benzene and TCNE–p‐xylene are estimated to be ?35.7 and ?44.9 kJ mol?1, respectively, at the complete basis set limit. The best estimates for the CCSD(T) interaction energy are ?37.5 and ?46.0 kJ mol?1, respectively. It is shown that the second‐order dispersion term provides the most important attractive contribution to the interaction energy, followed by the first‐order electrostatic term. The sum of second‐ and higher‐order induction and exchange–induction energies is found to provide nearly 40 % of the total interaction energy. After addition of vibrational, rigid‐rotor, and translational contributions, the computed internal energy changes on complex formation approach results from gas‐phase spectrophotometry at elevated temperatures within experimental uncertainties, while the corresponding entropy changes differ substantially.  相似文献

Recent high‐resolution spectroscopic studies by Merritt, Bondybey, and Heaven (Science 2009 , 324, 1548) have heightened the anticipation that small beryllium clusters will soon be observed in the laboratory. Beryllium clusters are important discrete models for the theoretical study of metals. The trigonal bipyramidal Be5 molecule is studied using high‐level coupled cluster methods. We obtain the optimized geometry, atomization and dissociation energies, and vibrational frequencies. The c~CCSDT(Q) method is employed to compute the atomization and dissociation energies. In this approach, complete basis set (CBS) extrapolations at the CCSD(T) level of theory are combined with an additive correction for the effect of iterative triple and perturbative quadruple excitations. Harmonic vibrational frequencies are obtained using analytic gradients computed at the CCSD(T) level of theory. We report an atomization energy of 129.6 kcal mol?1 at the trigonal bipyramid global minimum geometry. The Be5→Be4+Be dissociation energy is predicted to be 39.5 kcal mol?1. The analogous dissociation energies for the smaller beryllium clusters are 64.0 kcal mol?1 (Be4→Be3+Be), 24.2 kcal mol?1 (Be3→Be2+Be), and 2.7 kcal mol?1 (Be2→Be+Be). The trigonal bipyramidal Be5 structure has an equatorial–equatorial bond length of 2.000 Å and an axial–equatorial distance of 2.060 Å. Harmonic frequencies of 730, 611, 456, 583, 488, and 338 cm?1 are obtained at the CCSD(T)/cc‐pCVQZ level of theory. Quadruple excitations are found to make noticeable contributions to the energetics of the pentamer, which exhibits a significant level of static correlation.  相似文献
