Cones with a mapping cone symmetry in the finite-dimensional case

In the finite-dimensional case, we present a new approach to the theory of cones with a mapping cone symmetry, first introduced by Størmer. Our method is based on a definition of an inner product in the space of linear maps between two algebras of operators and the fact that the Jamio?kowski-Choi isomorphism is an isometry. We consider a slightly modified class of cones, although not substantially different from the original mapping cones by Størmer. Using the new approach, several known results are proved faster and often in more generality than before. For example, the dual of a mapping cone turns out to be a mapping cone as well, without any additional assumptions. The main result of the paper is a characterization of cones with a mapping cone symmetry, saying that a given map is an element of such cone if and only if the composition of the map with the conjugate of an arbitrary element in the dual cone is completely positive. A similar result was known in the case where the map goes from an algebra of operators into itself and the cone is a symmetric mapping cone. Our result is proved without the additional assumptions of symmetry and equality between the domain and the target space. We show how it gives a number of older results as a corollary, including an exemplary application.

On Extensions of Chain Algebras and Atoms of the Lattice of Radicals

In this article we study the problem when a left distributive algebra over a field determines an atom of the lattice of all radicals of rings. We show that this problem is strictly connected with the problem of describing extensions of left chain algebras and give a characterization of left chain algebras determining atoms.

On quasiregular mappings between smooth Jordan domains

It is proved that every proper quasiregular C² mapping w between two plane Jordan domains Ω∈C1,α and G∈C2,α, 0<α?1, satisfying the differential inequality |Δw|?M²|∇w|+N is Lipschitz continuous. This extends the main result of the author and M. Mateljevi? (Kalaj and Mateljevi?, 2006 [7]).     

On left C-wrpp semigroups

It is known that a C–rpp semigroup can be described as a strong semilattice of left cancellative monoids. In this paper, we introduce the class of left C–wrpp semigroups which includes the class of left C–rpp semigroups as a subclass. We shall particularly show that the semi-spined product of a left regular band and a C–wrpp semigroup forms a curler which is a left C–wrpp semigroup and vice versa. Results obtained by Fountain and Tang on C–rpp semigroups are extended and strengthened.

Effect of self-constructed concept map with peer feedback on chemistry learning outcome

Concept mapping remains widely used in education. However, little is known about how self-constructed concept maps and peer feedback can improve student learning outcomes in chemistry. We investigated the effects of peer feedback on concept mapping and how it improves students' learning performance in a large second-semester, introductory chemistry course. Three hundred and twenty students were randomly assigned to one of two concept mapping conditions: self-constructed concept map with peer feedback and self-constructed concept map without peer feedback. Each group constructed concept maps that depicted the relationship between concepts on the topic of intermolecular force. The results showed that students in the self-constructed concept map with peer feedback condition outperformed students in the no peer feedback condition in chemistry learning outcome. Overall, this study demonstrates that peer feedback enhances the effectiveness of learning with generative concept maps. The implications and future directions are discussed.

The Semigroup Structure of Left Clifford Semirings

In this paper,we generalize Clifford semirings to left Clifford semirings by means of the so-called band semirings.We also discuss a special case of this kind of semirings,that is, strong distributive lattices of left rings.

On the Stability of the Feasible Set in Linear Optimization

This paper deals with the stability of two families of linear optimization problems, each one formed by the dual problems to the members of the other family. We characterize the problems of these families that are stable in the sense that they remain consistent (inconsistent) under sufficiently small arbitrary perturbations of all the data. This characterization is established in terms of the lower semicontinuity property of the feasible set mapping and the boundedness of the optimal set of the corresponding coupled problem. Other continuity properties of the feasible set mapping are also derived. This stability theory extends some well-known theorems of Williams and Robinson on the stability of ordinary linear programming problems to linear optimization problems with infinitely many variables or constraints.     

When is a Coalgebra a Generator?

Let C be a coalgebra over a field k. The aim of this paper is to study the following problem : (P) If C is a k-coalgebra such that C is a generator for the category of left comodules, is C a left quasi-co-Frobenius coalgebra ? The converse always holds. We show that if C has a finite coradical series, the answer is positive.

Left SF-Rings and Regular Rings

A ring R is called a left (right) SF-ring if all simple left (right) R-modules are flat. It is known that von Neumann regular rings are left and right SF-rings. In this article, we study the regularity of left SF-rings and we prove the following: 1) if R is a left SF-ring whose all complement left (right) ideals are W-ideals, then R is strongly regular; 2) if R is a left SF-ring whose all maximal essential right ideals are GW-ideals, then R is regular.
