Remarks on the perturbation of analytic matrix functions III

As in [N], [LN] the Newton diagram is used in order to get information about the first terms of the Puiseux expansions of the eigenvalues () of the perturbed matrix pencilT(, )=A()+B(, ) in the neighbourhood of an unperturbed eigenvalue () ofA(). In fact sufficient conditions are given which assure that the orders of these first terms correspond to the partial multiplicities of the eigenvalue ₀ ofA().     

Nonnegative Hall Polynomials

The number of subgroups of type and cotype in a finite abelian p-group of type is a polynomialg with integral coefficients. We prove g has nonnegative coefficients for all partitions and if and only if no two parts of differ by more than one. Necessity follows from a few simple facts about Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions; sufficiency relies on properties of certain order-preserving surjections that associate to each subgroup a vector dominated componentwise by . The nonzero components of (H) are the parts of , the type of H; if no two parts of differ by more than one, the nonzero components of – (H) are the parts of , the cotype of H. In fact, we provide an order-theoretic characterization of those isomorphism types of finite abelian p-groups all of whose Hall polynomials have nonnegative coefficients.

The free loop space and the algebraic k-theory of spaces

Let A(X) be the space defined by Waldhausen whose homotopy groups define the algebraic K-groups of the space X and let . Here (X) denotes the free loop space of X and Q denotes the functor . For X = Y, the suspension of a connected space Y, we shall prove that the homotopy fibers Ã(X), B(X) of the maps A(X) A (point), B(X) B (point) are equivalent as infinite loop spaces.     

A survey of pseudo (v,k, λ)-designs

This work is an attempt to give a complete survey of all known results about pseudo (v, k, )-designs. In doing this, the author hopes to bring more attention to his conjecture given in Section 6; an affirmative answer to this conjecture would settle completely the existence and construction problem for a pseudo (v, k, )-design in terms of the existence of an appropriate (v, k, )-design.     

Minimal Characteristic Algebras for Some Properties of Identities

We consider algebras of a type , without nullary fundamental operation symbols. A structural property p of an identity of type is hereditary if for every set I of identities of type having the property p every consequence of I (derived identity) has the property p. An algebra of type we call characteristic for a hereditary property p if for every variety V of type we have: V if and only if every identity from Id(V) has the property p. Elastic properties of honeycomb sandwich plates with nontraditional cell forms

A method for correcting the elastic properties of honeycomb sandwich plates by changing the cell shape is described. Compact and convenient analytical expressions (1) are proposed for calculating the reduced elastic parameters of the honeycomb sandwich plates. The acceptable range of changes in the size of the honeycombs is restricted by the cell elongation region [0.5;2] and the region of variation of the angle between cell walls [/6; 5/6].
