The category of algebraic sets is defined in a straightforward way for any algebraic theory . It is a concrete, complete and cocomplete category dually equivalent to a full reflective subcategory of the category of -algebras. Analogues are formulated of the well-known, in the theory of analytic functions, Phragmen-Lindelöf theorem for the gradients of solutions of a broad class of quasilinear equations of elliptic type. Examples are given illustrating the accuracy of the results obtained for the gradients of solutions of the equations of the form div(|U|–2u)=f(x, u, u), where f(x, u, u) is a function locally bounded in 2n+1. f(x, 0, u)=0, uf(x, u, u) c¦u¦1+q(1+ ¦u|), > 1, c > 0, q > 0, is an arbitrary real number, and n >- 2. Let R(r, m) be the rth order Reed-Muller code of length 2 m , and let (r, m) be its covering radius. We prove that if 2 k m - r - 1, then (r + k, m + k) (r, m + 2(k - 1). We also prove that if m - r 4, 2 k m - r - 1, and R(r, m) has a coset with minimal weight (r, m) which does not contain any vector of weight (r, m) + 2, then (r + k, m + k) (r, m) + 2k(. Summary Let denote the class of infinite product probability measures = 1× 2× defined on an infinite product of replications of a given measurable space (X, A), and let denote the subset of for which (A) =0 or 1 for each permutation invariant event A. Previous works by Hewitt and Savage, Horn and Schach, Blum and Pathak, and Sendler (referenced in the paper) discuss very restrictive sufficient conditions under which a given member , of belongs to . In the present paper, the class is shown to possess several closure properties. E.g., if and 0 n for some n 1, then 0× 1× 2×.... While the current results do not permit a complete characterization of they demonstrate conclusively that is a much larger subset of than previous results indicated. For a bounded regular Jordan domain in R 2, we introduce and study a new class of functions K() related on its Green function G. We exploit the properties of this class to prove the existence and the uniqueness of a positive solution for the singular nonlinear elliptic equation u+(x,u)=0, in D(), with u=0 on and uC(), where is a nonnegative Borel measurable function in ×(0,) that belongs to a convex cone which contains, in particular, all functions (x,t)=q(x)t ,>0 with nonnegative functions qK(). Individual work by Professors G. Choquet and G. T. Sallee demonstrated that if were simple then there existed a convex chord-stretched version of . This result led Professor Yang Lu to conjecture that if were convex and were a chord-stretched version of then and would be congruent, i.e. any chord-stretching map of a convex arc is an isometry. Professor Yang Lu has proved this conjecture in the case where and are C 2 curves. In this paper we prove the conjecture in general.  相似文献

We shall give a further application of Hermite-Mahler polynomials to the consideration ofp-adic exponential function. An effective lower bound is obtained for max {| – | p ,P(e )| p }, where is an algebraic number satisfying || p <p –/(p–1), and 0 is ap-adic number with | | p depending on the degree of the polynomialPZ[y]. It is stated that if a Boolean family W of valuation rings of a field F satisfies the block approximation property (BAP) and a global analog of the Hensel-Rychlick property (THR), in which case F, W is called an RC*-field, then F is regularly closed with respect to the family W (The-orem 1). It is well known that every totally umbilical submanifold of a space of constant curvature is either a small sphere or is totally geodesic. B.-Y. Chen has classified totally umbilical submanifolds of compact, rank one, symmetric spaces ([4], [5]): in particular, they are all extrinsic spheres, that is, they have a parallel mean curvature vector H (or are totally geodesic). In this paper totally umbilical submanifolds Fl of dimension l 3 are classified in the irreducible symmetric space that is "next in complexity": Grassmann manifold G(2, n). Such submanifolds are either 1) totally geodesic [3] or 2) extrinsic spheres [small spheres in totally geodesic spheres; their position in G(2, n) is described here] or 3) essentially totally umbilical (H 0, H 0). If the submanifold is of type 3), then it is either a) an umbilical hypersurface of nonconstant mean curvature in totally geodesic S1 × S1 G(2, n) or b) an "oblique diagonal," a diagonal of the product of two small spheres of different radii in totally geodesic Sl+1 × Sl+1 G(2, n) (it has constant mean and sectional curvatures). Submanifolds 3a) and 3b) are described completely. The latter of the two negates two of Chen's conjectures. The number of subgroups of type and cotype in a finite abelian p-group of type is a polynomialg with integral coefficients. We prove g has nonnegative coefficients for all partitions and if and only if no two parts of differ by more than one. Necessity follows from a few simple facts about Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions; sufficiency relies on properties of certain order-preserving surjections that associate to each subgroup a vector dominated componentwise by . The nonzero components of (H) are the parts of , the type of H; if no two parts of differ by more than one, the nonzero components of – (H) are the parts of , the cotype of H. In fact, we provide an order-theoretic characterization of those isomorphism types of finite abelian p-groups all of whose Hall polynomials have nonnegative coefficients.  相似文献
