We investigate the regularity of a free boundary near contact points with a fixed boundary, with C1,1 boundary data, for an obstacle-like free boundary problem. We will show that under certain assumptions on the solution, and the boundary function, the free boundary is uniformly C1 up to the fixed boundary. We will also construct some examples of irregular free boundaries.  相似文献

In this paper we study the application of boundary integral equation methods for the solution of the third, or Robin, boundary value problem for the exterior Helmholtz equation. In contrast to earlier work, the boundary value problem is interpreted here in a weak sense which allows data to be specified in L (?D), ?D being the boundary of the exterior domain which we assume to be Lyapunov of index 1. For this exterior boundary value problem, we employ Green's theorem to derive a pair of boundary integral equations which have a unique simultaneous solution. We then show that this solution yields a solution of the original exterior boundary value problem.  相似文献

We present some basic properties of the so-called boundary relative extremal function and discuss boundary pluripolar sets and boundary pluripolar hulls. We show that for B-regular domains the boundary pluripolar hull is always trivial on the boundary of the domain and present a “boundary version” of Zeriahi’s theorem on the completeness of pluripolar sets.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with an initial boundary value problem for strictly convex conservation laws whose weak entropy solution is in the piecewise smooth solution class consisting of finitely many discontinuities. By the structure of the weak entropy solution of the corresponding initial value problem and the boundary entropy condition developed by Bardos-Leroux Nedelec, we give a construction method to the weak entropy solution of the initial boundary value problem. Compared with the initial value problem, the weak entropy solution of the initial boundary value problem includes the following new interaction type: an expansion wave collides with the boundary and the boundary reflects a new shock wave which is tangent to the boundary. According to the structure and some global estimates of the weak entropy solution, we derive the global L^1-error estimate for viscous methods to this initial boundary value problem by using the matching travelling wave solutions method. If the inviscid solution includes the interaction that an expansion wave collides with the boundary and the boundary reflects a new shock wave which is tangent to the boundary, or the inviscid solution includes some shock wave which is tangent to the boundary, then the error of the viscosity solution to the inviscid solution is bounded by O(ε^1/2) in L^1-norm; otherwise, as in the initial value problem, the L^1-error bound is O(ε| In ε|).  相似文献

In this paper we continue the study in Lewis and Nyström (2010) [19], concerning the regularity of the free boundary in a general two-phase free boundary problem for the p-Laplace operator, by proving regularity of the free boundary assuming that the free boundary is close to a Lipschitz graph.  相似文献

Abstract

Nonlinear systems are often subject to random influences. Sometimes the noise enters the system through physical boundaries and this leads to stochastic dynamic boundary conditions. A dynamic, as opposed to static, boundary condition involves the time derivative as well as spatial derivatives for the system state variables on the boundary. Although stochastic static (Neumann or Dirichet type) boundary conditions have been applied for stochastic partial differential equations, not much is known about the dynamical impact of stochastic dynamic boundary conditions. The purpose of this article is to study possible impacts of stochastic dynamic boundary conditions on the long term dynamics of the Cahn-Hilliard equation arising in the materials science. We show that the dimension estimation of the random attractor increases as the coefficient for the dynamic term in the stochastic dynamic boundary condition decreases. However, the dimension of the random attractor is not affected by the corresponding stochastic static boundary condition.  相似文献

In the theory of 2D Ginzburg-Landau vortices, the Jacobian plays a crucial role for the detection of topological singularities. We introduce a related distributional quantity, called the global Jacobian that can detect both interior and boundary vortices for a 2D map u. We point out several features of the global Jacobian, in particular, we prove an important stability property. This property allows us to study boundary vortices in a 2D Ginzburg-Landau model arising in thin ferromagnetic films, where a weak anchoring boundary energy penalising the normal component of u at the boundary competes with the usual bulk potential energy. We prove an asymptotic expansion by Γ-convergence at the second order for this mixed boundary/interior energy in a regime where boundary vortices are preferred. More precisely, at the first order of the limiting expansion, the energy is quantised and determined by the number of boundary vortices detected by the global Jacobian, while the second order term in the limiting energy expansion accounts for the interaction between the boundary vortices.  相似文献

We study cobordisms and cobordisms rel boundary of PL locally-flat disk knots D n−2D n . Any two disk knots are cobordant if the cobordisms are not required to fix the boundary sphere knots, and any two even-dimensional disk knots with isotopic boundary knots are cobordant rel boundary. However, the cobordism rel boundary theory of odd-dimensional disk knots is more subtle. Generalizing results of J. Levine on the cobordism of sphere knots, we define disk knot Seifert matrices and show that two higher-dimensional disk knots with isotopic boundaries are cobordant rel boundary if and only if their disk knot Seifert matrices are algebraically cobordant. We also ask which algebraic cobordism classes can be realized given a fixed boundary knot and provide a complete classification when the boundary knot has no 2-torsion in its middle-dimensional Alexander module. In the course of this classification, we establish a close connection between the Blanchfield pairing of a disk knot and the Farber-Levine torsion pairing of its boundary knot (in fact, for disk knots satisfying certain connectivity assumptions, the disk knot Blanchfield pairing will determine the boundary Farber-Levine pairing). In addition, we study the dependence of disk knot Seifert matrices on choices of Seifert surface, demonstrating that all such Seifert matrices are rationally S-equivalent, but not necessarily integrally S-equivalent.  相似文献

The paper considers the solution of the boundary value problem (BVP) consisting of the Helmholtz equation in the region D with a rigid boundary condition on ∂D and its reformulation as a boundary integral equation (BIE), over an infinite cylindrical surface of arbitrary smooth cross-section. A boundary integral equation, which models three-dimensional acoustic scattering from an infinite rigid cylinder, illustrates the application of the above results to prove existence of solution of the integral equation and the corresponding boundary value problem.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear boundary layer to the Boltzmann equation for cutoff soft potential with physical boundary condition, i.e., the Dirichlet boundary condition with weak diffuse effect. Under the assumption that the distribution function of gas particles tends to a global Maxwellian in the far field, we will show the boundary layer exist if the boundary data satisfy the solvability condition. Moreover, the codimensions of the boundary data which satisfies the solvability condition change with the Mach number of the far field Maxwellian like Chen et al. (2004) [5], Ukai et al. (2003) [6] and Wang et al. (2007) [7].  相似文献

In this work we study solutions of the prescribed mean curvature equation over a general domain that do not necessarily attain the given boundary data. With such a solution we can naturally associate a current with support in the closed cylinder above the domain and with boundary given by the prescribed boundary data and which inherits a natural minimizing property. Our main result is that its support is a C 1,α manifold-with-boundary, with boundary equal to the prescribed boundary data, provided that both the initial domain and the prescribed boundary data are of class C 1,α .  相似文献

In this paper, we analyze the behavior of a family of solutions of a nonlinear elliptic equation with nonlinear boundary conditions, when the boundary of the domain presents a highly oscillatory behavior, which is uniformly Lipschitz and nonlinear terms, are concentrated in a region, which neighbors the boundary of domain. We prove that this family of solutions converges to the solutions of a limit problem in H1an elliptic equation with nonlinear boundary conditions which captures the oscillatory behavior of the boundary and whose nonlinear terms are transformed into a flux condition on the boundary. Indeed, we show the upper semicontinuity of this family of solutions.Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

At the micro and nano scale the standard no slip boundary condition of classical fluid mechanics does not apply and must be replaced by a boundary condition that allows some degree of tangential slip. In this study the classical laminar boundary layer equations are studied using Lie symmetries with the no-slip boundary condition replaced by a nonlinear Navier boundary condition. This boundary condition contains an arbitrary index parameter, denoted by n>0, which appears in the coefficients of the ordinary differential equation to be solved. The case of a boundary layer formed in a convergent channel with a sink, which corresponds to n=1/2, is solved analytically. Another analytical but non-unique solution is found corresponding to the value n=1/3, while other values of n for n>1/2 correspond to the boundary layer formed in the flow past a wedge and are solved numerically. It is found that for fixed slip length the velocity components are reduced in magnitude as n increases, while for fixed n the velocity components are increased in magnitude as the slip length is increased.  相似文献

In this work the mechanical boundary condition for the micro problem in a two-scaled homogenization using a FE2 approach is discussed. The strain tensor is often used in the literature for small deformation problem to determine the boundary conditions for the boundary value problem on the micro level. This strain tensor based boundary condition gives consistent homogenized mechanical quantities, e.g. stress tensor and elasticity tensor, but the present work points out that it leads to unphysical homogenized configurational forces. Instead, we propose a displacement gradient based boundary condition for the micro problem. Results show that the displacement gradient based boundary condition can give not only the consistent homogenized mechanical quantities but also the appropriate homogenized configurational forces. The interpretation of the displacement gradient based boundary condition is discussed. (© 2012 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a new boundary condition that can be used when reconstructing an image from observed blurred and noisy data. Our approach uses information from the observed image to enforce boundary conditions that continue image features such as edges and texture across the boundary. Because of its similarity to methods used in texture synthesis, we call our approach synthetic boundary conditions. We provide an efficient algorithm for implementing the new boundary condition, and provide a linear algebraic framework for the approach that puts it in the context of more classical and well known image boundary conditions, including zero, periodic, reflective, and anti-reflective. Extensive numerical experiments show that our new synthetic boundary conditions provide a more accurate approximation of the true image scene outside the image boundary, and thus allow for better reconstructions of the unknown, true image scene.  相似文献

We define the decomposition of a boundary singularity as a pair (a singularity in the ambient space together with a singularity of the restriction to the boundary). We prove that the Lagrange transform is an involution on the set of boundary singularities that interchanges the singularities that occur in the decomposition of a boundary singularity. We classify the boundary singularities for which both of these singularities are simple. Bibliography: 8 titles.Translated fromTrudy Seminara imeni I. G. For a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we want to find the metric structure from knowledge of distances between boundary points. This is called the ??boundary rigidity problem??. If the boundary is not concave, which means locally not all shortest paths lie entirely in the boundary, then we are able to find the Taylor series of the metric tensor (C ?? jet) at the boundary (see Lassas et?al. (Math Ann 325:767?C793, 2003), Uhlmann et?al. (Adv Appl Math 31:379?C387, 2003)). In this paper we give a new reconstruction procedure for the C ?? jet at non-concave points on the boundary using the localized boundary distance function. A closely related problem is the ??lens rigidity problem??, which asks whether the lens data determine metric structure uniquely. Lens data include information of boundary distance function, the lengths of all geodesics, and the locations and directions where geodesics hit the boundary. We give the first examples that show that lens data cannot uniquely determine the C ?? jet. The example include two manifolds with the same boundary and the same lens data, but different C ?? jets. With some additional careful work, we can find examples with different C 1 jets, which means the boundaries in the two lens-equivalent manifolds have different second fundamental forms.  相似文献

In the numerical computation of hyperbolic equations it is not practical to use infinite domains. Instead, one truncates the domain with an artificial boundary. In this study we construct a sequence of radiating boundary conditions for wave-like equations. We prove that as the artificial boundary is moved to infinity the solution approaches the solution of the infinite domain as O(r?m?1/2) for the m-th boundary condition. Numerical experiments with problems in jet acoustics verify the practical nature and utility of the boundary conditions.  相似文献

The article investigates the reconstruction of the internal boundary of a two-dimensional region in the two-dimensional initial–boundary-value problem for the homogeneous heat equation. The initial values for the determination of the internal boundary are provided by a boundary condition of second kind on the external boundary and the solution of the initial–boundary-value problem at finitely many points inside the region. The inverse problem is reduced to solving a system of integral equations nonlinear in the function describing the sought boundary. An iterative numerical procedure is proposed involving linearization of integral equations.  相似文献
