The cross injection in a supersonic flow is an issue encountered in several aerodynamic applications such as fuel injection in scramjet combustor, missile control, drag reduction and thrust vector control. In a recent work, an analytical model has been presented to calculate the fluidic thrust vectoring performance for a supersonic axisymmetric nozzle. The model is able to take into account both the injected gas thermodynamic properties and the geometrical nozzle characteristics. The analytical model has been successfully validated following the cold air flow experimental analysis, in the case of fluidic thrust vectoring applied to conical nozzle. The aim of this work is to show how far the injected gas thermodynamic properties, different from that of the nozzle main flow, could influence the fluidic thrust vectorization parameters.In this work, the experimental performance of the fluidic thrust vectoring concept, using numbers of gases as injectant, has been qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. Schlieren visualization, force balance and wall pressure measurements were used in the case of a truncated ideal contour nozzle. The experimental results are compared to the numerical and analytical findings.Performance analysis are conducted and basic conclusions are drawn in terms of thermodynamic gas properties effect on the fluidic thrust vector system. The primary effect was related to the gas molecular weight and its specific heat ratio product. It is observed that for fixed injection conditions, the vectoring angle is higher when the injected gas molecular weight and specific heat ratio product is less than that of the primary gas. For a given mission of the launcher, it can be concluded that the mass of the embedded gas, used for the fluidic vectorization system, can be significantly reduced, depending on its molecular weight and specific heat ratio.  相似文献

This study considers two opposed facing fluidic oscillators in a side-by-side layout. Each fluidic oscillator shares one of its feedback channels with the other oscillator thus this configuration provides a mean for communication between fluidic oscillators. As a result of this communication through the shared feedback channel, the exiting jets of the fluidic oscillator pair are synchronized. The details of this synchronization are revealed by means of hot-wire measurements, flow visualizations and validated numerical simulations. The oscillation frequencies for both jets were the same and varied from 123 Hz to 476 Hz for a flow rate range from 5 SLPM to 25 SLPM per inlet corresponding to Reynolds number range of 2,125 to 10,625. The calculated cross-correlation coefficients were over 0.88 for the considered flow rate range. The flow visualizations exposed that the exiting jet of each fluidic oscillator move away from the shared feedback channel and move toward the shared feedback channel simultaneously indicating motion in the same direction. Numerical results indicated that the shared feedback channel plays a pressure balancing role while allowing inter-oscillator flow through each side of the shared feedback channel thus controlling the flow direction of each exiting jet yielding a synchronized output from the fluidic oscillator nozzles.  相似文献

We present the transient phenomena occurring during the impulsive control of flow separation over a NACA0015 airfoil at an incidence angle of 11° and a chord Reynolds number of 1 million. Actuation is performed via pneumatic vortex generators, impulsively activated in order to analyze the transient phenomena corresponding to the attachment process and, conversely, to transient re-separation occurring when the actuators are switched off. Measurements are performed using a linear array of unsteady pressure transducers and a single traversing crosswire. The pressure transducers are positioned in the separated region of the airfoil, which extends ∼ 0.3c upstream of the trailing edge at the above flow condition. To control the flow, the angled fluidic vortex generators are positioned in a single spanwise array located 0.3c downstream of the leading edge of the airfoil. We establish a statistical relationship between pressure and velocity signals during both the uncontrolled steady state and the transient processes of attachment and separation. The unsteady behavior of the attachment process is also qualitatively analyzed via a 0.3 million Reynold number visualizations. The emission of a “starting vortex” is evidenced. This corresponds to a transient increase of drag.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental study of flow separation control over a 3D backward facing ramp by means of pulsed jets. Such geometry has been selected to reproduce flow phenomena of interest for the automotive industry. The base flow has been characterised using PIV and pressure measurements. The results show that the classical notchback topology is correctly reproduced. A control system based on magnetic valves has been used to produce the pulsed jets whose properties have been characterised by hot wire anemometry. In order to shed some light on the role of the different parameters affecting the suppression of the slant recirculation area, a parametric study has been carried out by varying the frequency and the momentum coefficient of the jets for several Reynolds numbers.  相似文献

Bistable diverter valves are useful for a large number of no-moving-part flow control applications, and there is a considerable interest in using them also in microfluidics, especially for handling small pressure-driven flows. However, with decreasing Reynolds number, the Coanda effect—on which the flow diverting effect depends—becomes less effective. Authors performed a study, involving flow visualisation, PIV experiments, measurements of the flow rates, and numerical flowfield computations, aimed at clarifying behaviour of a typical fluidic valve at low Reynolds numbers. A typical fluidic valve originally developed for high Re operation was demonstrated to be useful, though with progressively limited efficiency, down to surprisingly low Re values as small as Re = 800. Also observed was a previously not reported discontinuation in the otherwise monotonic decrease in performance at Re between 1,500 and 2,000.  相似文献

This paper presents an overview of the work performed recently at ONERA on the control of the buffet phenomenon. This aerodynamic instability induces strong wall pressure fluctuations and as such limits aircraft envelope; consequently, it is interesting to try to delay its onset, in order to enlarge aircraft flight envelop, but also to provide more flexibility during the design phase. Several types of flow control have been investigated, either passive (mechanical vortex generators) or active (fluidic VGs, fluidic trailing-edge device (TED)). It is shown than mechanical and fluidic VGs are able to delay buffet onset in the angle-of-attack domain by suppressing the separation downstream of the shock. The effect of the fluidic TED is different, the separation is not suppressed, but the rear wing loading is increased and consequently the buffet onset is not delayed to higher angles of attack, but only to higher lift coefficient. Then, a closed loop control methodology based on a quasi-static approach is defined and several architectures are tested for various parameters such as the input signal, the objective function or, the tuning of the feedback gain. All closed loop methods are implemented on a dSPACE device calculating in real time the fluidic actuators command from the unsteady pressure sensors data.  相似文献

The flow induced by a finite disc rotating near horizontal ground is considered, including the effects of an underbody. This paper concentrates on determining the shape of the free layer beyond the rim of the disc which is horizontal in the absence of the underbody and ground but forced to deform to ensure that conditions across the layer are satisfied when the underbody or ground is added. The far-field behaviour, the inviscid flow produced by a nominally infinite disc near the ground and the global solution for small ground clearances are considered analytically, and the full problem is posed as an integral problem. This is then solved numerically and analytically. Results are presented for various heights of the disc above the ground and for discs with an axisymmetric underbody present. A universal form is found for the farfield shape (which is controlled by entrainment into the free layer) but both the underbody and the ground effects are found to increase very significantly for reduced clearances.  相似文献

The wake flow produced by a low-pressure turbine blade is modeled using a non-linear eddy-viscosity turbulence model. The theoretical benefit of using a non-linear eddy-viscosity model is strongly related to the capability of resolving highly anisotropic flows in contrast to the linear turbulence models, which are unable to correctly predict anisotropy. The main aim of the present work is to practically assess the performance of the model, by examining its ability to capture the anisotropic behavior of the wake-flow, mainly focusing on the measured velocity and Reynolds-stress distributions and to provide accurate results for the turbulent kinetic energy balance terms. Additionally, the contribution of each term of its non-linear constitutive expression for the Reynolds stresses is also investigated, in order to examine their direct effect on the modeling of the wake flow. The assessment is based on the experimental measurements that have been carried-out by the same group in Thessaloniki, Sideridis et al. (2011). The computational results show that the non-linear eddy viscosity model is capable to predict, with a good accuracy, all the flow and turbulence parameters while it is easy to program it in a computer code thus meeting the expectations of its originators.  相似文献

Particle imaging techniques for microfabricated fluidic systems   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
This paper presents the design and implementation of velocimetry techniques applicable to the analysis of microfluidic systems. The application of both micron-resolution particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) and particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) to the measurement of velocity fields within micromachined fluidic channels is presented. The particle tracking system uses epifluorescent microscopy, CCD imaging, and specialized image interrogation algorithms to provide microscale velocity measurement resolution. The flow field in a straight channel section is measured using cross-correlation micro-PIV and compared to the analytical solution for a measured mass flow rate. Velocity field measurements of the flow at the intersection of a cross-channel are also presented and compared with simulations from a commercially available flow solver, CFD-ACE+. Discussions regarding flow seeding, imaging optics, and the flow setup for measuring flows in microfabricated fluidic devices are presented. A simple process for estimating measurement uncertainty of the in-plane velocity measurements caused by three-dimensional Brownian motion is described. A definition for the measurement depth for PTV measurements is proposed. The agreement between measured and predicted values lends further support to the argument that liquid microflows with characteristic dimensions of order 50-μm dimension channels follow macroscale flow theory.  相似文献

In this paper, an experimental study, aimed at delaying flow separation on a high-lift device using a pulsed blowing excitation method, is reported. The main objective of this investigation was to evaluate a new pulsed jet generation strategy to enhance flow control performance. In these experiments, two types of signal waveform were implemented to produce the unsteady blowing; a simple square-wave excitation signal for the first case, and a burst modulated excitation signal for the second case. The signal modulation was the first time to be used for a fast-switching solenoid valve actuator. Another objective of this study was to evaluate a new arrangement of the jet exit slots, in the form of a vortex generator which was employed for the first time on the high-lift device. For this purpose, a NASA SC(2)-0714 airfoil with a single slotted flap was employed. The vortex generator jets emanated from the shoulder of the trailing-edge flap with excitation frequencies from 40 to 1000 Hz. Pressure distribution around the model and wake total pressure deficit were measured. The results indicated that ejection from vortex generator slot pairs was able to prevent flow separation completely in most conditions. These measurements revealed that the burst modulated excitation signal was accompanied by more aerodynamic improvements and less air consumption relative to the simple pulsed jet excitation signal. In the best flow control mode, the results showed about a 53% increase in the value of the suction pressure peak on the flap and a 38% decrease in drag with a reduction in total pressure loss.

This paper presents full-field temperature measurements of buoyancy opposing mixed convection flow within a miniscale fluidic geometry. The technique used is phase measurement interferometry and a Mach–Zehnder layout is employed. The popular two-dimensional microfluidic geometry of three streams merging at a junction is chosen for this analysis. The apparatus set-up is described and measures taken to limit experimental errors discussed. Also presented, are corresponding flow visualization images for comparison with the interferometric results. The results are compared for similar boundary conditions over the range of Richardson numbers of 0.5–1.7. The results of the interferometric study are presented in the form of full-field temperature maps depicting the type of thermal plume structure present through isotherms and are seen to compare well with the results of the flow visualization study. Some factors affecting the measurement technique at this scale are then discussed. These include the effect of using different transparent materials for sealing the fluidic device and temporal vibrations caused by either varying boundary conditions or by slight pulsations in the flow supplied. Also, due to discrepancies that exist in the literature for the temperature coefficient of the refractive index of the working fluid, thermocouples are embedded in the flow field and used to convert the measured phase change to a corresponding temperature change. The corresponding values of refractive index change with temperature are discussed and compared to published values. Overall, PMI is demonstrated to provide excellent full-field temperature plots that can be used to measure local heat transfer rates from this non-intrusive measurement technique.  相似文献

We study the flow of a viscous incompressible fluid through a long and narrow elastic tube whose walls are modeled by the Navier equations for a curved, linearly elastic membrane. The flow is governed by a given small time dependent pressure drop between the inlet and the outlet boundary, giving rise to creeping flow modeled by the Stokes equations. By employing asymptotic analysis in thin, elastic, domains we obtain the reduced equations which correspond to a Biot type viscoelastic equation for the effective pressure and the effective displacement. The approximation is rigorously justified by obtaining the error estimates for the velocity, pressure and displacement. Applications of the model problem include blood flow in small arteries. We use Large Eddy Simulation to investigate the influence of upstream boundary conditions on the development of a backward facing step flow. The first inlet condition consists of a mean turbulent boundary layer velocity profile perturbed by a white noise. The second relies upon a precursor calculation where the development of a quasi-temporal turbulent boundary layer is simulated. In this case, the quasi-longitudinal vortices in the upstream turbulent boundary-layer trigger the destabilization of the shear layer just behind the step, resulting in a shortening of the recirculation length and an increase of the characteristic frequency associated to the Kelvin–Helmholtz vortices. The mean flow and the characteristic frequencies of pressure fluctuations are strongly dependent of the upstream flow. The stability of internally heated inclined plane parallel shear flows is examined numerically for the case of finite value of the Prandtl number, Pr. The transition in a vertical channel has already been studied for 0?Pr?100 with or without the application of an external pressure gradient, where the secondary flow takes the form of travelling waves (TWs) that are spanwise-independent (see works of Nagata and Generalis). In this work, in contrast to work already reported (J. Heat Trans. T. ASME 124 (2002) 635–642), we examine transition where the secondary flow takes the form of longitudinal rolls (LRs), which are independent of the steamwise direction, for Pr=7 and for a specific value of the angle of inclination of the fluid layer without the application of an external pressure gradient. We find possible bifurcation points of the secondary flow by performing a linear stability analysis that determines the neutral curve, where the basic flow, which can have two inflection points, loses stability. The linear stability of the secondary flow against three-dimensional perturbations is also examined numerically for the same value of the angle of inclination by employing Floquet theory. We identify possible bifurcation points for the tertiary flow and show that the bifurcation can be either monotone or oscillatory. To cite this article: M. Nagata, S. Generalis, C. R. The pressure drag of blunt bluff bodies is highly relevant in many practical applications, including to the aerodynamic drag of road vehicles. This paper presents theory revealing that a mean drag reduction can be achieved by manipulating wake flow fluctuations. A linear feedback control strategy then exploits this idea, targeting attenuation of the spatially integrated base (back face) pressure fluctuations. Large-eddy simulations of the flow over a D-shaped blunt bluff body are used as a test-bed for this control strategy. The flow response to synthetic jet actuation is characterised using system identification, and controller design is via shaping of the frequency response to achieve fluctuation attenuation. The designed controller successfully attenuates integrated base pressure fluctuations, increasing the time-averaged pressure on the body base by 38%. The effect on the flow field is to push the roll-up of vortices further downstream and increase the extent of the recirculation bubble. This control approach uses only body-mounted sensing/actuation and input–output model identification, meaning that it could be applied experimentally.  相似文献

The complex flow features inside hard disk drive models are investigated in an axisymmetric and a semi-open shroud configurations. For the axisymmetric case, we have employed both experimental and computational approaches. The experiment focuses on both flow dynamics and the disk vibration, where measurements of the fluctuating pressure and velocity are undertaken at some representative points. The correlation between the disk vibration and the fluctuating pressure in the turbulent flow between disks is evident from the spectral analysis. The experimentally observed fluctuating pressure and velocity are partly due to the disk vibration and its contribution could be estimated by comparing the experiment with the results of a large eddy simulation. For the semi-open shroud case, although the characteristic peaks attributable to the large-scale vortical structure are still observed in the power spectra, the pressure fluctuation and the disk vibration are suppressed when the arm is inserted.  相似文献

This paper highlights steady and unsteady measurements and flow control results obtained on an Ahmed model with slant angle of 25° in wind tunnel. On this high-drag configuration characterized by a large separation bubble along with energetic streamwise vortices, time-averaged and time-dependent results without control are first presented. The influence of rear-end periodic forcing on the drag coefficient is then investigated using electrically operated magnetic valves in an open-loop control scheme. Four distinct configurations of flow control have been tested: rectangular pulsed jets aligned with the spanwise direction or in winglets configuration on the roof end and rectangular jets or a large open slot at the top of the rear slant. For each configuration, the influence of the forcing parameters (non-dimensional frequency, injected momentum) on the drag coefficient has been studied, along with their impact on the static pressure on both the rear slant and vertical base of the model. Depending on the type and location of pulsed jets actuation, the maximum drag reduction is obtained for increasing injected momentum or well-defined optimal pulsation frequencies.  相似文献

The aim of this work is a priori evaluation and improvement of a non-linear model for turbulent flows using the results from direct numerical simulation of Navier–Stokes equations. The algebraic explicit non-linear model recently proposed by Rumsey C.L. et al. [1] is studied. The data base used here comes from a direct numerical simulation of a turbulent flow through a square duct. For this flow, this study shows that the hypothesis of equilibrium state for the anisotropic tensor is correct. The analysis is made using the maps of the second and third invariants of the Reynolds stress tensor. Turbulent flows over lifting surfaces exhibiting trailing-edge vortex shedding often cause adverse and complex phenomena, such as self-induced vibration and noise. In this paper, a numerical study on flow past a blunt-edged two-dimensional NACA 0015 section and the same section with various base cavity shapes and sizes at high Reynolds numbers has been performed using the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) approach with the realisable κε turbulence model. The equations are solved using the control volume method of second-order accuracy in both spatial and time domains. The assessment of the application of URANS for periodic trailing-edge flow has shown that reasonable agreement is achieved for both the time-averaged and fluctuating parameters of interest, although some differences exist in the prediction of the near-wake streamwise velocity fluctuation magnitudes. The predicted Strouhal numbers of flows past the squared-off blunt configuration with varying degrees of bluntness agree well with published experimental measurements. It is found that the intensity of the vortex strengths at the trailing-edge is amplified when the degree of bluntness is increased, leading to an increase in the mean square pressure fluctuations. The numerical prediction shows that the presence of the base cavity at the trailing-edge does not change the inherent Strouhal number of the 2D section examined. However, it does have an apparent effect on the wake structure, local pressure fluctuations and the lift force fluctuations. It is observed that the size of the cavity has more influence on the periodic trailing-edge flow than its shape does.  相似文献
