The spectrum of the mass operator on the soliton sectors of the anisotropic (|ø|4)2—and the (ø4)2—quantum field models in the two phase region is analyzed. It is proven that, for small enough >0, the mass gapm s() on the soliton sector is positive, andm s()=0(–1). This involves estimatingm s() from below by a quantity () analogous to the surface tension in the statistical mechanics of two dimensional, classical spin systems and then estimating () by methods of Euclidean field theory. From the eigenvalue equationH \ n () =E n ()\ n () withH H 0 +V one can derive an autonomous system of first order differential equations for the eigenvaluesE n () and the matrix elementsV mn () where is the independent variable. To solve the dynamical system we need the initial valuesE n ( = 0) and \ n ( = 0). Thus one finds the motion of the energy levelsE n (). We discuss the question of energy level crossing. Furthermore we describe the connection with the stationary state perturbation theory. The dependence of the survival probability as well as some thermodynamic quantities on is derived. This means we calculate the differential equations which these quantities obey. Finally we derive the equations of motion for the extended caseH =H 0 +V 1 + 2 V 2 and give an application to a supersymmetric Hamiltonian.  相似文献

The contact process is a model of spread of an infectious disease. Combining with the result of ref. 1, we prove that the critical exponents take on the mean-field values for sufficiently high dimensional nearest-neighbor models and for sufficiently spread-out models with d>4:() c as c and ()( c)–1 as c, where () and () are the spread probability and the susceptibility of the infection respectively, and c is the critical infection rate. Our results imply that the upper critical dimension for the contact process is at most 4.  相似文献

Given a one-parameter familyf (x) of maps of the interval [0, 1], we consider the set of parameter values for whichf has an invariant measure absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure. The slow passage through a steady bifurcation: Delay and memory effects   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
We consider the following problem as a model for the slow passage through a steady bifurcation: dy/dt = (t) y – y3 +, where is a slowly increasing function oft given by= i + t ( i,<0). Both and are small parameters. This problem is motivated by laser experiments as well as theoretical studies of laser problems. In addition, this equation is a typical amplitude equation for imperfect steady bifurcations with cubic nonlinearities. When=0, we have found that=0 is not the point where the bifurcation transition is observed. This transition appears at a value = j > 0. We call j the delay of the bifurcation transition. We study this delay as a function of i, the initial position of, and, the imperfection parameter. To this end, we propose an asymptotic study of this equation as 0, small but fixed. Our main objective is to describe this delay in terms of the relative magnitude of and. Since time-dependent imperfections are always present in experiments, we analyze in the second part of the paper the effect of a small-amplitude but time-periodic imperfection given by (t) = cos(t).  相似文献

We study ergodic Jacobi matrices onl 2(Z), and prove a general theorem relating their a.c. spectrum to the spectra of periodic Jacobi matrices, that are obtained by cutting finite pieces from the ergodic potential and then repeating them. We apply this theorem to the almost Mathieu operator: (H , , u)(n)=u(n+1)+u(n–1)+ cos(2n+)u(n), and prove the existence of a.c. spectrum for sufficiently small , all irrational 's, and a.e. . Deviations from the equivalence principle can be found by observations of the orbital periods of masses in a two body system, in a drag free satellite in geosynchronous orbit. At this altitude the Earth gravitational field tides allow close stable circular motion, within a 30 cm lobe, of a small test mass around the centre of the primary mass, of 75 kg. The repulsive fifth force ought to slow the orbital Newtonian period. A precise clock and laser interferometry provide the determination of in the range between 1 and 102cm and of if larger than 10–4.2 or 10–5, for an uncertainty of the value of the constant of gravitation equal to 10–5 or 10–6, respectively ( and are the coupling coefficient to gravity and range of action of the fifth force). In the latter case, for around 10 cm, the fifth force may be detected for larger than 10–5.5. This experiment may verify the principle of equivalence at short range improving the actual limits from one to two and a half orders of magnitude. The range of action,, up to several meters can be observed with this local experimental concept, but only for large values of, which have been excluded recently by ground experiments.  相似文献

We study the almost Mathieu operator: (H , , u)(n)=u(n+1)+u(n-1)+ cos (2n+)u(n), onl 2 (Z), and show that for all ,, and (Lebesgue) a.e. , the Lebesgue measure of its spectrum is precisely |4–2|. In particular, for ||=2 the spectrum is a zero measure cantor set. Moreover, for a large set of irrational 's (and ||=2) we show that the Hausdorff dimension of the spectrum is smaller than or equal to 1/2.Work partially supported by the GIF  相似文献

The contact process onZ has one phase transition; let c be the critical value at which the transition occurs. Let N be the extinction time of the contact process on {0,...,N}. Durrett and Liu (1988), Durrett and Schonmann (1988), and Durrett, Schonmann, and Tanaka (1989) have respectively proved that the subcritical, supercritical, and critical phases can be characterized using a large finite system (instead ofZ) in the following way. There are constants 1() and 2() such that if < c , lim N N /logN = 1/1(); if > c , lim N log N /N = 2(); if = c , lim N N /N= and lim N N /N 4=0 in probability. In this paper we consider the asymmetric contact process onZ when it has two distinct critical values c1< c2. The arguments of Durrett and Liu and of Durrett and Schonmann hold for < c1 and > c2. We show that for [ c1< c2), lim N N /N=-1/, (where i is an edge speed) and for = c2, lim N log N /logN=2 in probability.  相似文献

For real a correspondence is made between the Julia setB forz(z)2, in the hyperbolic case, and the set of-chains±(±(±..., with the aid of Cremer's theorem. It is shown how a number of features ofB can be understood in terms of-chains. The structure ofB is determined by certain equivalence classes of-chains, fixed by orders of visitation of certain real cycles; and the bifurcation history of a given cycle can be conveniently computed via the combinatorics of-chains. The functional equations obeyed by attractive cycles are investigated, and their relation to-chains is given. The first cascade of period-doubling bifurcations is described from the point of view of the associated Julia sets and-chains. The properties of Pulsed-Laser-Deposited Diamond-Like Carbon (PLD DLC) films are studied as functions of the power density and the wavelength of the laser beam, and the incident angle of the beam relative to the normal of the target surface. All the films have a similar structure consisting of graphite particulates embedded in a continuous matrix, so the macroscopic performance of the films is determined by the overall contributions of the particulates and the matrix. The use of higher, shorter, or larger leads to an enhancement of the diamond-like characteristics and a simultaneous increase of the particulate density. These two effects give opposite contributions to the electrical conductivity R, leading to the following results. (i) R drops with increasing in the low range (region I) due to the stronger diamond-like nature of the matrix, but increases sharply after has exceeded a threshold min as a result of the rapid increase in particulate density. (ii) In region I, the use of shorter or larger leads to a more diamond-like matrix, and this overwhelms the degradation effect caused by the slight increase in particulate density. The samples thus become more insulating. In the high region (region II), however, the use of shorter or larger gives rise to higher particulate density, thereby increasing the electrical conductivity.  相似文献

The method of complex angular moments is used to analyze the experimental data on the inelastic reactions p ()K, taking into account branch cuts in the j-plane in the eikonal approximation. An optical model for the backward scattering is considered. Agreement with experiment is obtained in the region of small angles for the reactions (0)K0. The object of the present paper is to study the MHD effects on the laminar flow of a viscous, incompressible and conducting fluid in an annulus with arbitrary time-varying pressure gradient and arbitrary initial velocity in presence of a radial magnetic field. The Julia setB for the mappingz (z–)2 is considered, where is a complex parameter. For 2 a new upper bound for the Hausdorff dimension is given, and the monic polynomials orthogonal with respect to the equilibrium measure onB are introduced. A method for calculating all of the polynomials is provided, and certain identities which obtain among coefficients of the three-term recurrence relations are given. A unifying theme is the relationship betweenB and -chains ± (± (± ...), which is explored for –1/42 and for with ||1/4, with the aid of the Böttcher equation. The thermodynamic behavior of the Bose–Hubbard model is solved for any temperature and any chemical potential. It is found that there is a range of critical coupling strengths c1 < c2 < c3 < in this model. For coupling strengths between c,k and c,k+1, Bose–Einstein condensation is suppressed at densities near the integer values = 1,...,k with an energy gap. This is known as a Mott insulator phase and was previously shown only for zero temperature. In the context of ultra-cold atoms, this phenomenon was experimentally observed in 2002(1) but, in the Bose–Hubbard model, it manifests itself also in the pressure-volume diagram at high pressures. It is suggested that this phenomenon persists for finite-range hopping and might also be experimentally observable.  相似文献

A simple method of determining the bulk value of the d.c. resistance r, of the residual resistance ratiok , and of the mean free path of electrons in isotropic metal wires is presented. For thick wires the linear correction can be applied under the condition that the experimentally found mean free path e is smaller than the wire diameterd. In both thick and thin wires another type of correction can be used, based on the difference, between the precise and linear correction as a function of /d, carried out by a graphical method.The author acknowledges useful discussions with P.Svoboda, to whom he is indebted for stimulating remarks. Refractive-index and optical-absorption spectra of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films, epitaxially grown by liquid-phase epitaxy, have been measured in the spectral regime 0.26 m1.9 m by thin-film interference for 0.52 m and by ellipsometry for0.52 m. The Y3–x–y Bi x Pb y Fe5–z Pt z O12 films contain bismuth in the range Ox 1.42, lead in the range 0.01 y0.08 and platinum in the range 0.005<=z0.03. There is satisfactory coincidence between the results from ellipsometry and thin-film interference in the overlapping wavelength region. The materials investigated are the same as reported earlier from this laboratory in ter mof their magnetic and magnetooptic properties.  相似文献
