We give current algebra arguments to show that toO(α) the colour octet vertices do not renormalize the effective weak vertex between colour singlet hadrons in models with broken colour symmetry. The result does not depend on the details of the mixing between colour gluons and electro-weak bosons.  相似文献

The present paper reconsiders the Newtonian limit of models of modified gravity including higher order terms in the scalar curvature in the gravitational action. This was studied using the Palatini variational principle in Meng and Wang (Gen. Rel. Grav. 36, 1947 (2004)) and Domínguez and Barraco (Phys. Rev. D 70, 043505 (2004)) with contradicting results. Here a different approach is used, and problems in the previous attempts are pointed out. It is shown that models with negative powers of the scalar curvature, like the ones used to explain the present accelerated expansion, as well as their generalization which include positive powers, can give the correct Newtonian limit, as long as the coefficients of these powers are reasonably small. Some consequences of the performed analysis seem to raise doubts for the way the Newtonian limit was derived in the purely metric approach of fourth order gravity [Dick in Gen. Rel. Grav. 36, 217 (2004)]. Finally, we comment on a recent paper [Olmo in Phys. Rev. D 72, 083505 (2005)] in which the problem of the Newtonian limit of both the purely metric and the Palatini formalism is discussed, using the equivalent Brans–Dicke theory, and with which our results partly disagree.  相似文献

We evaluate the suppressionof J/ψ production in an equilibrating quark gluon plasma for two competing mechanisms: Debye screening of colour interaction and dissociation due to energetic gluons. Results are obtained for S + S and Au + Au collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. At RHIC energies the gluonic dissociation of the charmonium is found to be equally important for both the systems while the screening of the interaction plays a significant role only for the larger systems. At LHC energies the Debye mechanism is found to dominate both the systems. While considering the suppression of directly produced T at LHC energies, we find that only the gluonic dissociation mechanism comes into play for the initial conditions taken from the self screened parton cascade model in these studies.  相似文献

We present exact results for several universal parameters of the tricritical O(n) model in two dimensions. The results apply to the range −2⩽n⩽3/2, and include the central charge and three scaling dimensions, associated with temperature, magnetic field and the introduction of an interface. Since these results are based on an extrapolation of known relations between the O(n) and the Potts model, they cannot be considered as rigorous. For this reason, we perform an accurate numerical analysis of the central charge and the critical exponents. This analysis, which is based on transfer-matrix calculations on the honeycomb lattice, is in a full and precise agreement with the theoretical predictions.   相似文献

Deep inelastic weak and electromagnetic processes are considered within the parton framework taking the partons to be integrally charged quarks and coloured gluons. Despite the participation of the spin-one gluons in these processes, scaling is shown to be maintained by treating the problem in a unified gauge model based on the groupSU (3)colourSU L (2)⊗U(1). This is a consequence of the vector-dominance type of couplings between the gluons and the weak or electromagnetic vector bosons which are induced by the spontaneous breakdown of gauge symmetry. As a further consequence it is found that in the asymptotic region far above the gluon masses the colour octet parts of the weak and electromagnetic currents of the quarks are damped so that, in particular, the integrally charged quarks behave as fractionally charged quarks in this region.  相似文献

Electronic contribution to electric field gradient (EFG) inβ-Ga has been calculated for the first time using the band wave functions. The results show that the magnitudes of the quadrupole resonance frequency and the net EFG agree with experiment to within 7% and 2% respectively.  相似文献

The low energy duality string model is investicated in time-dependent metric, torsion, dilaton background fields and potential fields, the inflationary solutions for string cosmologies are obtained when the space-time dimension is D = 3. We analyse all the neutral-current phenomena following from the general class of gauge models based on the group SU(2) L ⊗ SU(2) R ⊗ U(1). It is found that the neutral-current couplings in these models bear a remarkable similarity to those in the standard Weinberg-Salam gauge model. The parameter which plays the role of sin2ϑw is found to lie between 0 and 1/2. Comparison with experimental data shows that even a model with the ratio of the masses of the twoZ bosons as small as 1.9 is not ruled out.  相似文献

Building on earlier work, we discuss a general framework for exploring the cosmological dynamics of Higher Order Theories of Gravity. We show that once the theory of gravity has been specified, the cosmological equations can be written as a first-order autonomous system and we give several examples which illustrate the utility of our method. The efforts of Roy-Sridhar-Close-Cho-Wise-Trivedi to resolve the CDFψ′ anomaly with cascades from above-thresholdχ c states require well defined signatures [a small total width and a large branching fraction forχ cJ γ+ψ′] for the solution to be viable. Here we estimate the production of such states from BR(Bχ cJ +X)BR(χ cJ γψ′) andγγ production ofχ c2 at CLEO II, and comment on the feasibility of testing the hypothesis in terms of current experimental capabilities.  相似文献

Bianchi type-III space time is considered in the presence of cosmic strings and thick domain walls source in the frame work of general relativity. Exact cosmological models using various cases of ρ=α λ and p=γ ρ are presented. It is observed that the behavior of these models (with cosmic strings and domain walls), based on their physical and kinematical properties, is found to be identical.  相似文献

Experimental Coulomb isotope shifts δE Coul from K α transitions, and radius differences δ〈r 2 eμ measured by electron scattering and muonic atom X-rays were used to derive ‘experimental’ coefficients C 1,exp for 54 isotope pairs of 18 elements from Mo to U. A χ2-analysis shows that these experimental coefficients are – on average – 3.5% lower than the theoretical C 1 values calculated by Seltzer, or more precisely: C 1,exp=0.965(± 0.014)×C 1. The need for more accurate theoretical calculations is stressed, and consequences of this deviation are discussed. The weak radiative decay Λ b →Λγ is studied in the heavy quark effective theory treatings-quark as heavy. This rare decay is induced by the short distance electromagnetic penguins. Including corrections of the order of (1/m Q), we obtain the transition matrix element and the corresponding decay width. The Isgur-Wise function is evaluated in the largeN c limit and the branching ratio obtained is 1.48×10−5.  相似文献

K β-to-K α X-ray intensity ratios of Fe and Ni in pure metals and in Fe x Ni1−x alloys (x=0.20, 0.50, 0.58) exhibiting similar crystalline structure have been measured following excitation by 59.54 keV γ-rays from a 241Am point source, to understand as to why the properties of permalloy Fe0.2Ni0.8 is distinct from other alloy compositions. It is observed that the valence electronic structure of Fe0.2Ni0.8 alloy is totally different from other alloys which may be attributed to its special magnetic properties.  相似文献

Perturbed angular correlation (PAC) studies have been performed in liquid mercury, HCl media of different acid strengths, H2O and H3PO4 using a 181Hf probe. It is found that, in case of H2O, interaction between the nucleus and its excited atom following the β decay of 181Hf is a possible mechanism for the nuclear spin relaxation in this environment. In the liquid mercury and different acid media, however, the perturbations are found to arise due to molecular fluctuations.  相似文献

Recently the first excited state in 135Sb has been observed at the unexpectedly low excitation energy of only 282keV and interpreted as mainly d 5/2 proton coupled to the 134Sn core. Based on theoretical considerations it was suggested that its low excitation energy is related to a relative shift of the proton d 5/2 and g 7/2 orbits induced by the neutron excess. We have measured the lifetime of the 282keV state by the advanced time-delayed βγγ(t) method. The measured half-life, T 1/2 = 6.1(4)ns, yields exceptionally low limits of B(M1;5/21 +→7/21 +)≤3.0×10-4 μ 2 N and B(E2;5/21 +→7/21 +)≤54e 2 fm 4. These strongly hindered M1 and slow E2 transition rates are similar to those for the transition de-populating the first excited state at 405keV in 211Bi. Results of shell model calculations with realistic interactions are presented. The M1 decay rate was found to be extremely sensistive both to the wave function and to the M1 effective operator.  相似文献

In a series of experiments performed at the velocity filter SHIP, new or improved decay data of neutron-deficient isotopes of elements from mendelevium (Z = 101) to hassium (Z = 108) were obtained.
