We report an inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy study on MgO magnetic junctions with thin barriers (0.85-1.35 nm). Inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy reveals resonant electronic trapping within the barrier for voltages V>0.15 V. These trapping features are associated with defects in the barrier crystalline structure, as confirmed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Such defects are responsible for resonant tunneling due to energy levels that are formed in the barrier. A model was applied to determine the average location and energy level of the traps, indicating that they are mostly located in the middle of the MgO barrier, in accordance with the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy data and trap-assisted tunneling conductance theory. Evidence of the influence of trapping on the voltage dependence of tunnel magnetoresistance is shown.  相似文献

We have studied the tunneling of spin-wave pulses through a system of two closely situated potential barriers. The barriers represent two areas of inhomogeneity of the static magnetic field, where the existence of spin waves is forbidden. We show that for certain values of the spin-wave frequency corresponding to the quantized spin-wave states existing in the well formed between the barriers, the tunneling has a resonant character. As a result, transmission of spin-wave packets through the double-barrier structure is much more efficient than the sequent tunneling through two single barriers.  相似文献

We study the electronic structure near impurities in the d-density-wave (DDW) state, a possible candidate phase for the pseudogap region of the high-temperature superconductors. We show that the density of states near a nonmagnetic impurity in the DDW state is qualitatively different from that in a superconductor with dx(2)(-y(2)) symmetry. Thus, the electronic structure near impurities can provide insight into the nature of the two phases recently observed by scanning tunneling microscopy experiments in the superconducting state of underdoped Bi-2212 compounds.  相似文献

The Josephson tunneling current in S-I-S structures where the main current transport channel is resonant tunneling through an isolated localized state is calculated using the Bogolyubov-de Gennes equations. It is shown that the efficiency of equilibrium Josephson resonant tunneling is determined only by the ratio of the width of the resonance level to the absolute value of the order parameter for the superconducting electrodes with arbitrary relationships among the system parameters. Excitation spectra near the indirect exciton edge of AgBr at 1.8K are reported for several luminescence lines from weakly localized excitons. Excitation below the exciton absorption threshold reveals several excited bound exciton states the energetic positions of which are determined. For excitation above the threshold, strong energy dependent structure is observed. It is interpreted in terms of resonant trapping of free excitons in both ground and excited bound exciton states associated with emission of LO(Γ), long wavelength acoustic and intervalley TA(X) and LA(X) phonons as well as combinations and overtones of these. From measurements in doped crystals two bound exciton systems are found to be correlated with Cd2+ and Ca2+, respectively.  相似文献

Combining an extended Julliere model with transfer matrix method, we study the spin-polarized resonant tunneling in GaMnAs/AlAs/GaAs/AlAs/GaMnAs double barrier ferromagnetic semiconductor (FS) tunnel junctions with the arbitrary angle θ between the magnetic directions of two FS's. It is shown that tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) ratio linearly varies with sin2(θ/2). We also demonstrate that for the heavy and light holes, the properties of the spin-polarized resonant tunneling are obviously different. The present results are expected to be instructive for manufacturing the relevant semiconductor spintronic devices.  相似文献

Strong evidence of a single-photon tunneling effect, a direct analog of single-electron tunneling, has been obtained in the measurements of light tunneling through individual subwavelength pinholes in a gold film covered with a layer of polydiacetylene. The transmission of some pinholes reached saturation because of the optical nonlinearity of polydiacetylene at a very low light intensity of a few thousand photons per second. This result is explained theoretically in terms of a "photon blockade," similar to the Coulomb blockade phenomenon observed in single-electron tunneling experiments. Single-photon tunneling may find applications in the fields of quantum communication and information processing.  相似文献

In this work we report on field-induced features appearing in the tunneling current traces of a biased asymmetric triple barrier resonant tunneling device in the presence of an in-plane magnetic field. A theoretical model that satisfactorily explains the origin of these features is discussed. The reported data evidences the localized nature of the quantum states in thin layer asymmetric double-quantum-well structures.  相似文献

The tunneling characteristics of a metal-insulator-metal junction are calculated in the framework of the two-band model, which takes into account the presence of the valence band for the insulator layer. It is demonstrated that, in the case where the Fermi level E F of the structure under investigation lies below the middle of the band gap of the insulator, the dependence of the tunneling current on the bias voltage across the junction contains portions with a negative differential resistance at V > E F/e. The iron-aluminum oxide-iron magnetoresistive junctions are considered as samples in which the effect under discussion can be observed. It is shown that, in the given case, the appearance of a portion with a negative differential resistance should be expected at voltages exceeding the Fermi energy \(E_{F_1 } \) for the spin-up electron band.  相似文献
