In this paper we study robust convex quadratically constrained programs, a subset of the class of robust convex programs introduced by Ben-Tal and Nemirovski [4]. In contrast to [4], where it is shown that such robust problems can be formulated as semidefinite programs, our focus in this paper is to identify uncertainty sets that allow this class of problems to be formulated as second-order cone programs (SOCP). We propose three classes of uncertainty sets for which the robust problem can be reformulated as an explicit SOCP and present examples where these classes of uncertainty sets are natural. In this paper, we present a new class of alternative theorems for SOS-convex inequality systems without any qualifications. This class of theorems provides an alternative equations in terms of sums of squares to the solvability of the given inequality system. A strong separation theorem for convex sets, described by convex polynomial inequalities, plays a key role in establishing the class of alternative theorems. Consequently, we show that the optimal values of various classes of robust convex optimization problems are equal to the optimal values of related semidefinite programming problems (SDPs) and so, the value of the robust problem can be found by solving a single SDP. The class of problems includes programs with SOS-convex polynomials under data uncertainty in the objective function such as uncertain quadratically constrained quadratic programs. The SOS-convexity is a computationally tractable relaxation of convexity for a real polynomial. We also provide an application of our theorem of the alternative to a multi-objective convex optimization under data uncertainty.  相似文献

We present an exact formula for the radius of robust feasibility of uncertain linear programs with a compact and convex uncertainty set. The radius of robust feasibility provides a value for the maximal ‘size’ of an uncertainty set under which robust feasibility of the uncertain linear program can be guaranteed. By considering spectrahedral uncertainty sets, we obtain numerically tractable radius formulas for commonly used uncertainty sets of robust optimization, such as ellipsoids, balls, polytopes and boxes. In these cases, we show that the radius of robust feasibility can be found by solving a linearly constrained convex quadratic program or a minimax linear program. The results are illustrated by calculating the radius of robust feasibility of uncertain linear programs for several different uncertainty sets.  相似文献

In this paper, we study quasi approximate solutions for a convex semidefinite programming problem in the face of data uncertainty. Using the robust optimization approach (worst-case approach), approximate optimality conditions and approximate duality theorems for quasi approximate solutions in robust convex semidefinite programming problems are explored under the robust characteristic cone constraint qualification. Moreover, some examples are given to illustrate the obtained results.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a duality theory for semi-infinite linear programming problems under uncertainty in the constraint functions, the objective function, or both, within the framework of robust optimization. We present robust duality by establishing strong duality between the robust counterpart of an uncertain semi-infinite linear program and the optimistic counterpart of its uncertain Lagrangian dual. We show that robust duality holds whenever a robust moment cone is closed and convex. We then establish that the closed-convex robust moment cone condition in the case of constraint-wise uncertainty is in fact necessary and sufficient for robust duality. In other words, the robust moment cone is closed and convex if and only if robust duality holds for every linear objective function of the program. In the case of uncertain problems with affinely parameterized data uncertainty, we establish that robust duality is easily satisfied under a Slater type constraint qualification. Consequently, we derive robust forms of the Farkas lemma for systems of uncertain semi-infinite linear inequalities.  相似文献

We present a decomposition-approximation method for generating convex relaxations for nonconvex quadratically constrained quadratic programming (QCQP). We first develop a general conic program relaxation for QCQP based on a matrix decomposition scheme and polyhedral (piecewise linear) underestimation. By employing suitable matrix cones, we then show that the convex conic relaxation can be reduced to a semidefinite programming (SDP) problem. In particular, we investigate polyhedral underestimations for several classes of matrix cones, including the cones of rank-1 and rank-2 matrices, the cone generated by the coefficient matrices, the cone of positive semidefinite matrices and the cones induced by rank-2 semidefinite inequalities. We demonstrate that in general the new SDP relaxations can generate lower bounds at least as tight as the best known SDP relaxations for QCQP. Moreover, we give examples for which tighter lower bounds can be generated by the new SDP relaxations. We also report comparison results of different convex relaxation schemes for nonconvex QCQP with convex quadratic/linear constraints, nonconvex quadratic constraints and 0–1 constraints.  相似文献

We discuss convex optimization problems in which some of the variables are constrained to be finite autocorrelation sequences. Problems of this form arise in signal processing and communications, and we describe applications in filter design and system identification. Autocorrelation constraints in optimization problems are often approximated by sampling the corresponding power spectral density, which results in a set of linear inequalities. They can also be cast as linear matrix inequalities via the Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov lemma. The linear matrix inequality formulation is exact, and results in convex optimization problems that can be solved using interior-point methods for semidefinite programming. However, it has an important drawback: to represent an autocorrelation sequence of length $n$, it requires the introduction of a large number ($n(n+1)/2$) of auxiliary variables. This results in a high computational cost when general-purpose semidefinite programming solvers are used. We present a more efficient implementation based on duality and on interior-point methods for convex problems with generalized linear inequalities. In this paper, we consider approximate solutions (\(\epsilon \)-solutions) for a convex semidefinite programming problem in the face of data uncertainty. Using robust optimization approach (worst-case approach), we prove an approximate optimality theorem and approximate duality theorems for \(\epsilon \)-solutions in robust convex semidefinite programming problem under the robust characteristic cone constraint qualification. Moreover, an example is given to illustrate the obtained results.  相似文献

Most research in robust optimization has been focused so far on inequality-only, convex conic programming with simple linear models for the uncertain parameters. Many practical optimization problems, however, are nonlinear and nonconvex. Even in linear programming, the coefficients may still be nonlinear functions of the uncertain parameters. In this paper, we propose robust formulations that extend the robust-optimization approach to a general nonlinear programming setting with parameter uncertainty involving both equality and inequality constraints. The proposed robust formulations are valid in a neighborhood of a given nominal parameter value and are robust to the first-order, thus suitable for applications where reasonable parameter estimations are available and uncertain variations are moderate. This paper considers an uncertain convex optimization problem, posed in a locally convex decision space with an arbitrary number of uncertain constraints. To this problem, where the uncertainty only affects the constraints, we associate a robust (pessimistic) counterpart and several dual problems. The paper provides corresponding dual variational principles for the robust counterpart in terms of the closed convexity of different associated cones.  相似文献

We propose a modified alternating direction method for solving convex quadratically constrained quadratic semidefinite optimization problems. The method is a first-order method, therefore requires much less computational effort per iteration than the second-order approaches such as the interior point methods or the smoothing Newton methods. In fact, only a single inexact metric projection onto the positive semidefinite cone is required at each iteration. We prove global convergence and provide numerical evidence to show the effectiveness of this method.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine duality for fractional programming problems in the face of data uncertainty within the framework of robust optimization. We establish strong duality between the robust counterpart of an uncertain convex–concave fractional program and the optimistic counterpart of its conventional Wolfe dual program with uncertain parameters. For linear fractional programming problems with constraint-wise interval uncertainty, we show that the dual of the robust counterpart is the optimistic counterpart in the sense that they are equivalent. Our results show that a worst-case solution of an uncertain fractional program (i.e., a solution of its robust counterpart) can be obtained by solving a single deterministic dual program. In the case of a linear fractional programming problem with interval uncertainty, such solutions can be found by solving a simple linear program.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider robust optimal solutions for a convex optimization problem in the face of data uncertainty both in the objective and constraints. By using the properties of the subdifferential sum formulae, we first introduce a robust-type subdifferential constraint qualification, and then obtain some completely characterizations of the robust optimal solution of this uncertain convex optimization problem. We also investigate Wolfe type robust duality between the uncertain convex optimization problem and its uncertain dual problem by proving duality between the deterministic robust counterpart of the primal model and the optimistic counterpart of its dual problem. Moreover, we show that our results encompass as special cases some optimization problems considered in the recent literature.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose an approximate optimization model for the robust second-order-cone programming problem with a single-ellipsoid uncertainty set for which the computational complexity is not known yet. We prove that this approximate robust model can be equivalently reformulated as a finite convex optimization problem.  相似文献

On the basis of a new topological minimax theorem, a simple and unified approach is developed to Lagrange duality in nonconvex quadratic programming. Diverse generalizations as well as equivalent forms of the S-Lemma, providing a thorough study of duality for single constrained quadratic optimization, are derived along with new strong duality conditions for multiple constrained quadratic optimization. The results allow many quadratic programs to be solved by solving one or just a few SDP’s (semidefinite programs) of about the same size, rather than solving a sequence, often infinite, of SDP’s or linear programs of a very large size as in most existing methods.  相似文献

Chance constraint is widely used for modeling solution reliability in optimization problems with uncertainty. Due to the difficulties in checking the feasibility of the probabilistic constraint and the non-convexity of the feasible region, chance constrained problems are generally solved through approximations. Joint chance constrained problem enforces that several constraints are satisfied simultaneously and it is more complicated than individual chance constrained problem. This work investigates the tractable robust optimization approximation framework for solving the joint chance constrained problem. Various robust counterpart optimization formulations are derived based on different types of uncertainty set. To improve the quality of robust optimization approximation, a two-layer algorithm is proposed. The inner layer optimizes over the size of the uncertainty set, and the outer layer optimizes over the parameter t which is used for the indicator function upper bounding. Numerical studies demonstrate that the proposed method can lead to solutions close to the true solution of a joint chance constrained problem.  相似文献

Summary This paper develops a new framework for the study of Markov decision processes in which the control problem is viewed as an optimization problem on the set of canonically induced measures on the trajectory space of the joint state and control process. This set is shown to be compact convex. One then associates with each of the usual cost criteria (infinite horizon discounted cost, finite horizon, control up to an exit time) a naturally defined occupation measure such that the cost is an integral of some function with respect to this measure. These measures are shown to form a compact convex set whose extreme points are characterized. Classical results about existence of optimal strategies are recovered from this and several applications to multicriteria and constrained optimization problems are briefly indicated.Research supported by NSF Grant CDR-85-00108  相似文献

The robust optimization methodology is known as a popular method dealing with optimization problems with uncertain data and hard constraints. This methodology has been applied so far to various convex conic optimization problems where only their inequality constraints are subject to uncertainty. In this paper, the robust optimization methodology is applied to the general nonlinear programming (NLP) problem involving both uncertain inequality and equality constraints. The uncertainty set is defined by conic representable sets, the proposed uncertainty set is general enough to include many uncertainty sets, which have been used in literature, as special cases. The robust counterpart (RC) of the general NLP problem is approximated under this uncertainty set. It is shown that the resulting approximate RC of the general NLP problem is valid in a small neighborhood of the nominal value. Furthermore a rather general class of programming problems is posed that the robust counterparts of its problems can be derived exactly under the proposed uncertainty set. Our results show the applicability of robust optimization to a wider area of real applications and theoretical problems with more general uncertainty sets than those considered so far. The resulting robust counterparts which are traditional optimization problems make it possible to use existing algorithms of mathematical optimization to solve more complicated and general robust optimization problems.  相似文献

We establish in this paper optimal parametric Lagrangian dual models for box constrained quadratic program based on the generalized D.C. (difference between convex) optimization approach, which can be reformulated as semidefinite programming problems. As an application, we propose new valid linear constraints for rank-one relaxation.  相似文献
