Let A be a self-adjoint elliptic second-order differential operator, let (, ) be an inner gap in the spectrum of A, and let B(t) = A + tW * W, where W is a differential operator of higher order. Conditions are obtained under which the spectrum of the operator B(t) in the gap (, ) is either discrete, or does not accumulate to the right-hand boundary of the spectral gap, or is finite. The quantity N(, A, W, ), (, ), > 0 (the number of eigenvalues of the operator B(t) passing the point (, ) as t increases from 0 to ) is considered. Estimates of N(, A, W, ) are obtained. Given a setX and subsetsX 1,...,X m, we consider the problem of finding a graphG with vertex setX and the minimum number of edges such that fori=1,...,m, the subgraphG i; induced byX i is connected. Suppose that for any pointsx 1,...,x X, there are at mostX i 's containing the set {x1,...,x }. Several authors considered nonparametric estimation of (x) in the i.i.d. setting. We obtain a complete solution of the problem of the maximum of the fourth diameter in the family of continua with capacity 1. Let E(o, ei, e–i). 0<i, e–i; H(=cap E(o, ei, e–i). Let C() be the common point of three analytic arcs which form E(o, ei, e–i). One shows that the indicated maximum is realized by the continuum ={z:H(0)z 2E(o, ei, e–i)} where 0, o<0z ei z+C ( is a real and C is a complex constant). One finds the value of the required maximum. Within Archimedean -groups, and with an infinite cardinal or , we consider X-hulls where X stands for any of the following classes of -groups: -projectable; laterally -complete; boundedly laterally -complete; conditionally -complete; combinations of the preceding, together with divisibility and/or relative uniform completeness. All these hulls exist, and may be obtained by iterated adjunction of the required extra elements, within the essential hull. When the -groups is relatively -complemented one step in the iteration suffices for several crucial properties. In this paper, (, ,Q)-invexity is introduced, where :X ×X intR m + , :X ×X X,X is a Banach space,Q is a convex cone ofR m . This unifies the properties of many classes of functions, such asQ-convexity, pseudo-linearity, representation condition, null space condition, andV-invexity. A generalized vector variational inequality is considered, and its equivalence with a multi-objective programming problem is discussed using (, ,Q)-invexity. An existence theorem for the solution of a generalized vector variational inequality is proved. Some applications of (, ,Q)-invexity to multi-objective programming problems and to a special kind of generalized vector variational inequality are given.The author is indebted to Dr. V. For a cardinal , we say that a subset B of a space X is C -compact in X if for every continuous function is a compact subset of . If B is a C-compact subset of a space X, then (B, X) denotes the degree of C -compactness of B in X. A space X is called -pseudocompact if X is C -compact into itself. For each cardinal , we give an example of an -pseudocompact space X such that X × X is not pseudocompact: this answers a question posed by T. Retta in Some cardinal generalizations of pseudocompactness Czechoslovak Math. J. 43 (1993), 385–390. The boundedness of the product of two bounded subsets is studied in some particular cases. A version of the classical Glicksberg's Theorem on the pseudocompactness of the product of two spaces is given in the context of boundedness. A Sturmian word is a map W : {0,1} for which the set of {0, 1}-vectors F n(W) {(W(i), W(i + 1),...,W(i + n – 1)) T : i } has cardinality exactly n + 1 for each positive integer n. Our main result is that the volume of the simplex whose n + 1 vertices are the n + 1 points in F n(W) does not depend on W. Our proof of this motivates studying algebraic properties of the permutation ,n (where is any irrational and n is any positive integer) that orders the fractional parts {}, {2},...,{n}, i.e., 0 < {,n (1)} < {,n (2)} < ··· < {,n (n)} < 1. We give a formula for the sign of ,n , and prove that for every irrational there are infinitely many n such that the order of ,n (as an element of the symmetric group S n) is less than n.  相似文献

For a topological category over Set we prove that if a functor T: has a fixed cardinal (i.e. for each object K with card (UK)= we have card (UTK)), then T has a least fixed point, and if T has a successive pair of fixed cardinals and +, then T has a greatest fixed point. In this paper equivalent classes of the classes M and S pr , p > 1, > 0. r { 0,1,2, ... ,[]} defined by Shuyun [3] are obtained. Then, it is shown that the class S pr , 1 > p 2, 0, r {0,1,2,...,[]} is a subclass of BVC r , where S pr is the equivalent class of the Shuyun's class S pr , BV is the class of null sequences of bounded variation and C r is the extension of the Garrett--Stanojevic class.
