Using the laser-conoscopy method, the photorefractive light-scattering method, and the Raman light-scattering method, we have studied the structural and optical homogeneities and photorefractive properties of (i) stoichiometric lithium niobate crystals (LiNbO3(stoich)), which were grown from a melt with 58.6 mol % of Li2O; (ii) congruent crystals (LiNbO3(congr)); and (iii) congruent crystals that were doped with Zn2+ cations (LiNbO3:Zn; [Zn] = 0.03–1.59 mol %). We have shown that the speckle-structure of the photorefractive light scattering in all the crystals is three-layer. The shapes of the second and third layers repeat in general the shape of the first layer. We have shown that the differences that are observed between the Raman spectra, the photorefractive light scattering, and the conoscopic patterns of the examined crystals are caused by the fact that defects are distributed inhomogeneously over the volume of these crystals and that Zn2+ cations are incorporated inhomogeneously into the lattice. This leads to the appearance of local changes in the elastic characteristics of the crystal and to the appearance of mechanical stresses, which locally change the optical indicatrix and, correspondingly, the conoscopic pattern and the Raman spectrum.  相似文献

In the temperature range 100–450 K, we have investigated Raman spectra of congruent and stoichiometric LiNbO3 crystals. We have found that, in this temperature range, frequencies and widths of all the spectral lines depend linearly on temperature. However, the width of the line that corresponds to vibrations of the A1(TO) symmetry of Li+ ions depends on temperature much more weakly than the width of the line that corresponds to vibrations of the A1(TO) symmetry of Nb5+ ions. This fact indicates that the anharmonicity of vibrations of Nb5+ ions along the polar axis is much stronger compared to vibrations of Li+ ions. It is likely that this anharmonicity is noticeably contributed by O2? ions, which are characterized by an anharmonic potential, vibrations of which, according to calculations from first principles, are mixed with vibrations of Nb5+ ions. The anharmonicity of vibrations of O2? ions is evidenced by a strong temperature dependence of the width of the line that corresponds to vibrations of the A1(TO) symmetry of O2? ions perpendicularly to the polar axis. We have found that the temperature dependence of the intensity of lines that correspond to fundamental vibrations is nonmonotonic. At the same time, the temperature dependence of the intensity of “superfluous lines” is strictly linear. It is likely that this behavior of the intensities of lines of fundamental vibrations is related to the occurrence of clusters and microstructures in the crystal structure.  相似文献

From the concentration dependence of the widths and intensities of Raman lines and from the patterns of photoinduced light scattering, it is found that the mechanism of incorporation of Zn2+ cations into the LiNbO3 crystal structure changes with increasing concentration of zinc in the melt, which leads to an abrupt anisotropic expansion of oxygen octahedra along the polar axis. In this case, the number of kinks in the concentration dependence of linewidths (5) considerably exceeds the number of concentration threshold (2) known from the literature. It is shown that B3+ ions almost do not enter the cationic sublattice of the LiNbO3 crystal but changes the melt structure, so that the LiNbO3:B crystal is characterized by a high structural and optical homogeneity and a low photorefractive effect.  相似文献

The influence of recovery annealing in a CO2 atmosphere at 700°C on the properties of Li2Zn2(MoO4)3 crystals doped with cerium and copper ions has been studied. The EPR investigation of Li2Zn2(MoO4)3 crystals annealed in a CO2 atmosphere has revealed that the annealing leads to the formation of oxygen vacancies in positions adjacent to the oxygen octahedron of lithium, M3, and the oxygen tetrahedron of molybdenum, Mo1. In this case, the charge state of molybdenum becomes Mo5+ and appears in the EPR spectra in the form of one magnetically nonequivalent position. The analysis of the angular dependence of the EPR spectrum of Mo5+ made it possible to calculate the spectral parameters g = 1.862, g = 1.933, A = 71.8 G, and A = 34.1 G. The cross relaxation on the hyperfine structure from the molybdenum isotope 97Mo is found in the EPR spectra. The photoexcitation of Li2Zn2(MoO4)3 crystal doped with cerium ions leads to the saturation of the EPR spectrum of Mo5+ and to the formation of the hyperfine structure from one lithium ion with a hyperfine structure constant of 14 G. For Li2Zn2(MoO4)3 crystals doped with copper ions, a very weak EPR spectrum of Mo5+ is observed in the initial crystals. As a result of the photoexcitation, an increase in the intensity of this spectrum by an order of magnitude and manifestation of the EPR spectrum of Cu2+ ions take place. It is assumed that such a behavior of the EPR spectra of molybdenum ions in Li2Zn2(MoO4)3 crystals doped with cerium and copper ions under photoexcitation is caused by different positions of the energy levels of cerium and copper ions with respect to the energy level of the molybdenum ion.  相似文献

Photorefractive properties and structural and optical homogeneity of (1) LiNbO3:Cu crystals ([Cu] = 0.015 mas %) grown from a congruent melt, (2) nominally pure stoichiometric crystals grown from a melt with 58.6 mol % of Li2O (LiNbO3stoich), and (3) nominally pure congruent crystals (LiNbO3congr) have been studied using the Raman-spectroscopy method with excitation in the UV, visible, and near-IR ranges; the laser-conoscopy method; and the electron paramagnetic resonance-spectroscopy method. In optically uniaxial LiNbO3 crystals, a weak optical biaxiality has been revealed, which is attributed to an insignificant deformation of the optical indicatrix. This deformation can be caused both by the initial structural inhomogeneity of crystals and by the photorefractive effect. It has been shown that, under the action of light, charge exchange of copper cations Cu2+ → Cu+ takes place in the crystal LiNbO3:Cu ([Cu] = 0.015 mas %). The LiNbO3:Cu crystal exhibits photorefractive properties not only because of the occurrence of intrinsic defects with electrons localized at them, as is the case with the LiNbO3stoich and LiNbO3congr crystals, but also due to the charge exchange of copper cations under the action of the laser radiation.  相似文献

The conversion of the broadband thermal radiation in stoichiometric (R = 1) lithium niobate single crystals that are grown from melt with 58.6 mol % of LiO2, congruent (R = Li/Nb = 0.946) melt with the K2O flux admixture (4.5 and 6.0 wt %), and congruent melt and in congruent single crystals doped with the Zn2+, Gd3+, and Er3+ cations is studied. It is demonstrated that the conversion efficiency of the stoichiometric crystal that is grown from the melt with 58.6 mol % of LiO2 is less than the conversion efficiency of congruent crystal. In addition, the stoichiometric and almost stoichiometric crystals and the doped congruent crystals exhibit the blue shift of the peak conversion intensity in comparison with a nominally pure congruent crystal. For the congruent crystals, the conversion intensities peak at 520 and 495 nm, respectively.  相似文献

Using methods of electronic spectroscopy, laser conoscopy, photoinduced (photoreactive) light scattering, and Raman light-scattering spectroscopy, we have studied the optical homogeneity, optical transmission, and photorefractive properties of single crystals LiNbO3:Mg(5.21 mol %) and LiNbO3:Fe(0.009 mol %):Mg(5.04 mol %) that were grown from congruent melts. We have ascertained that doping with “nonphotorefractive” Mg2+ cations causes suppression of the photorefractive effect in a lithium-niobate crystal. Upon double doping (Fe:Mg), if the concentration of Mg2+ cations exceeds the threshold concentration, the photorefractive effect is almost not observed and the presence of “photorefractive” Fe cations does not affect the photorefractive effect as strongly as in congruent crystals doped with Fe.  相似文献

Using the electronic spectroscopy method, the laser-conoscopy method, and the Raman light-scattering method, we have studied the structural homogeneity of LiNbO3 crystals doped with 0.03–4.5 mol % of ZnO. We have found that, as the laser radiation power is increased to 90 mW, the conoscopic patterns of crystals show additional distortions, which are attributed to the manifestation of the photorefractive effect. For the LiNbO3 crystal doped with 4.5 mol % of ZnO, in which the photorefractive effect is low, we have revealed a considerable shift (compared to the remaining crystals) of the optical absorption edge toward the shortwavelength range, which indicates a high structural homogeneity of this crystal. We have shown that, in the LiNbO3 crystal doped by 0.05 mol % ZnO, due to the displacement of NbLi and Li□ structural defects by Zn2+ cations, the crystal structure is ordered and, simultaneously, the number of defects with localized electrons decreases.  相似文献

The photovoltaic and diffusion fields in nominally pure single crystals of stoichiometric composition (R = Li/Nb = 1) grown from the melt with 58.6 mol % of Li2O (LiNbO3 stoich), in the nominally pure single crystals of congruent composition (LiNbO3), and in congruent single crystals doped with Cu2+, Zn2+, and Gd3+ are found from the parameters of the photoinduced light scattering indicatrix obtained with the use of a 60-mW He-Ne laser.  相似文献

Polarized visible and infrared emission characteristics of Er3+ ions in vapor-transport-equilibration (VTE)-treated LiNbO3 crystals codoped with different concentrations of Zn and Er were investigated in comparison with corresponding as-grown crystals. The results show that the VTE treatment leads to substantial spectral changes of Er3+ emissions at 0.65, 0.98 and 1.5 μm regions, and the spectral changes in the 0.98 and 1.5 μm regions appear to be Zn-concentration-dependent. It is concluded in combination with X-ray powder diffraction results and optical absorption characteristics reported previously that the VTE treatment resulted in crystalline phase transformation with respect to Er3+ ions from original LiNbO3 to ErNbO4 phase in all crystals studied. The formation of the ErNbO4 phase and the Zn2+ codopants are responsible for the VTE-induced substantial spectral changes. The emission characteristics of the ErNbO4 precipitates in the Zn/Er-codoped crystals are found to be very different from those of the ErNbO4 precipitates in the only Er-doped crystal in the infrared region, and the difference is attributed to the influence of the Zn2+ codopant on the Er3+ ion environment. The mechanism of the crystalline phase transformation is qualitatively explained from the viewpoint of the declined solubility of Er3+ ion in a Li-rich LiNbO3 crystal and from the phase diagram of Li2O-Nb2O5 system.  相似文献

CaF2 crystals doped with Yb3+ ions have been studied by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical spectroscopy. EPR spectra of paramagnetic centers (PCs) for cubic (Tc) and tetragonal (Ttet) symmetries were identified. Empirical energy level diagrams were established and crystal field parameters were determined. Information on the CaF2∶Yb3+ phonon spectra was obtained from the electron-vibrational structure of the optical spectra. The crystal field parameters were used to analyze the crystal lattice distortions in the vicinity of the Yb3+ ion. Within the framework of a superposition model, it is established that four F ions located symmetrically with respect to the fourfold axis from the side of the ion-compensator approach the impurity ion and deviate from the PC axis. The second set of four fluorine ions also approaches the Yb3+ ion and the PC axis. The ion-compensator F also approaches considerably the impurity ion.  相似文献

The electrical conductivity and optical absorption of potassium chloride crystals, pure and doped with divalent cation impurities, have been measured before and after X-irradiation at room temperature. The concentration of free positive ion vacancies at room temperature has been calculated from conductivity for each crystal before irradiation and is found to be much less than the first stage F centre concentration. This shows that both free and associated positive ion vacancies are the latent source of F centres in the first stage colouration. Pb+ + ions trap electrons producing Pb+ + and Pb0 centres and making free the associated cation vacancies. Such centres are not produced in Ca-doped crystals where impurity-vacancy complexes trap F centres producing Z centres. The higher ratio of F centres to positive ion vacancies in Pb-doped crystals indicates that free cation vacancies are more effective in producing F centres. However, the concentration of divalent cations is found to decrease in both the crystals after irradiation, the decrease being more in Ca-doped crystals. The author is indebted to Prof. H. N. Bose for helpful discussions. Thanks are also due to Dr. M. L. Mukherjee for providing the crystals.  相似文献

This paper reports on the spectroscopy properties, absorption and luminescence, of Cr3+ ions in singly doped, ZnO-codoped, and Zn in-diffused LiNbO3:Cr crystals. In addition to the broad absorption, inter-ionic transitions ascribed to Cr3+ ions located in Li+ and Nb5+ sites; [Cr]Li and [Cr]Nb centres two absorption bands at higher energy are reported and ascribed to the charge transfer transitions of the Cr3+ ions of the two defect centres. The charge transfer transitions are used as optical probe to study the role of the Zn ions in the Zn in-diffused LiNbO3:Cr samples. It has been observed that the Zn-in-diffused processes created [Cr]Nb centres in the diffusion zone. The location of the diffused Zn2+ ions is considered to be in Li+ site, displacing the Cr3+ ions from the Li+ sites, [Cr]Li, to the Nb5+ positions, [Cr]Nb.  相似文献

Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and density measurements were conducted on undoped and ZnO-doped congruent LiNbO3 single crystals grown by the Czochralski method. Based on the experimental results, an intrinsic defect evolution model was proposed. When ZnO was doped into the congruent LN crystals, the Zn ions replaced first the Li ions and increased the density. Then, the Zn ions simultaneously replaced the Li ions and the antisite NbLis until all NbLi ions were replaced, which increased the density further. After that, the Zn ions substituted Nb ions in the Nb-sublattice sites with the reduction of the Li vacancies as self-compensation and thus reduced the density. When the Li vacancies disappeared completely, the Zn ions substituted simultaneously both Li ions in the Li-sublattice sites and Nb ions in the Nb-sublattice sites. The simultaneous substitution might finally lead to the generation of oxygen vacancies and decreased the density further. PACS 61.72.-y; 06.30.Dr; 61.10.-i  相似文献

Electrical properties of single crystals of α-LiIO3 superionic conductor (hexagonal symmetry, sp. gr. P6322, z cut) have been studied by the methods of impedance spectroscopy and thermally induced depolarization. The mechanism of thermally induced charge relaxation in α-LiIO3 crystal is related to “hopping” migration of mobile Li+ ions via crystallographic sites in the channels of the [IO3] crystalline framework oriented along the c crystallographic axis.  相似文献

Copper pair centers, which could be of interest for obtaining quantitative information about exchange interactions in superconductors based on cuprate perovskites, are observed in crystals with the perovskite structure by the ESR method. Such centers are investigated in KTaO3:Cu and K1−x LixTaO3:Cu crystals. A model consisting of a chain of two equivalent Cu2+ ions and three oxygen vacancies, extending along the 〈 100〉 axis, is proposed for the centers. The exchange interaction in the pairs is ferromagnetic. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. Fiz. 69, No. 12, 890–894 (25 June 1999)  相似文献

The Zn0.9Co0.1O films are fabricated by chemical solution deposition method. All the films have the ZnO wurtzite structure with a preferential orientation along the c-axis. The analysis of X-ray near-edge absorption spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicates that the valence of Co is +2, and there are oxygen vacancies in Zn0.9Co0.1O films annealed in Ar atmosphere. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure results reveal that Co2+ ions have dissolved into ZnO and substituted for Zn2+ ions. Magnetization measurements show that the film annealed in Ar exhibits ferromagnetism which can be explained by the formation of bound magnetic polarons.  相似文献

The effect of the substitution of Co2+, Mn2+, and Zn2+ ions for Ni2+ ions on the magnetic, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties of vanadate single crystals (Ni1 − x T x )3V2O8 has been analyzed. It has been found that the low-level (x ≤ 0.1) substitution of both magnetic and nonmagnetic ions stabilizes the ferroelectric state with a cycloidal magnetic structure. The existence region of this state is expanded to low temperatures down to 3 K for Zn2+ and below 1.8 K for Co2+ and Mn2+ owing to the suppression of a low-temperature weak ferromagnetic phase. At the same time, the ferroelectric phase disappears completely at large concentrations of Co and Mn. The effect of magnetic fields on the magnetic and ferroelectric states has been analyzed. It has been shown that the magnetic field along the c axis suppresses the ferroelectric state, whereas the magnetization along the antiferromagnetism axis (a axis) induces the reentrant phase transition from a paraelectric weak ferromagnetic structure to a ferroelectric structure. The corresponding H-T phase diagrams have been drawn.  相似文献

A new iron center in stoichiometric lithium niobate crystals has been studied by the EPR method. The angular dependences of the EPR spectrum of the center have been used to derive the parameters of its spin Hamiltonian. The data amassed on the variation in the concentrations of two iron centers in lithium niobate crystals annealed in a Li2CO3 powder have provided an insight into the mechanism of formation of the new center, as well as corroborated its model proposed by us earlier. According to this model, the center represents a complex of two defects aligned with the polar axis in the crystal: the iron ion at the niobium site and an interstitial lithium ion filling the nearest structural vacancy (Fe3+[Nb]-Li+[V]). The structure of other Fe3+ centers revealed earlier in LiNbO3 crystals, in which the iron ion occupies the niobium site, has been discussed.  相似文献

LiNbO3 crystals were grown from a congruent melt by the Czochralski method. Special care was taken with respect to purity and an analysis of impurity levels. Present crystals are as pure as 3N-4N. In particular, doping by Yb3+ was investigated. An upper limit for the inclusion of Yb3+ in LiNbO3 may be set at 2.5 mol% for a congruent melt. Present results demonstrate the complex interaction between intrinsic and extrinsic defects in LiNbO3. The variation of lattice parameters supports evidence for the Li+ vacancy model and an occupation of Li sites for Yb3+. Data on purities, laser properties and analytical methods provide a short review on a field, where analytical results gained by different techniques often may disagree.  相似文献
