The amorphous film surfaces of polystyrene (PS), poly(2,6-dimethyl 1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO), and their miscible blends are brought into overlap contact below the glass transition temperature T g for 10 min and 24 h in order to obtain PS—PS, PPO—PPO, and blend—blend self-adhesive joints. It is shown that after the contact of the blend surfaces, i.e., when the molecules of both PS and PPO are present at the interface, it is possible to attain higher values of shear strength as compared with those at PS—PS and PPO—PPO interfaces. This points to the contribution of a specific interaction between the segments of PS and PPO to the strength development at the interface. “A Calculus of Sequences” started in 1936 by Ward constitutes the general scheme for extensions of classical operator calculus of Rota—Mullin considered by many afterwards and after Ward. Because of the notation we shall call the Ward's calculus of sequences in its afterwards elaborated form—a ψ-calculus. The ψ-calculus in parts appears to be almost automatic, natural extension of classical operator calculus of Rota—Mullin or equivalently—of umbral calculus of Roman and Rota. At the same time this calculus is an example of the algebraization of the analysis—here restricted to the algebra of polynomials. Many of the results of ψ-calculus may be extended to Markowsky Q-umbral calculus where Q stands for a generalized difference operator, i.e. the one lowering the degree of any polynomial by one. This is a review article based on the recent first author contributions [1]. As the survey article it is supplemented by the short indicatory glossaries of notation and terms used by Ward [2], Viskov [7, 8], Markowsky [12], Roman [28–32] on one side and the Rota-oriented notation on the other side [9–11, 1, 3, 4, 35] (see also [33]).  相似文献

Bounded commutative residuated lattice ordered monoids (Rℓ-monoids) are a common generalization of, e.g., Heyting algebras and BL-algebras, i.e., algebras of intuitionistic logic and basic fuzzy logic, respectively. Modal operators (special cases of closure operators) on Heyting algebras were studied in [MacNAB, D. S.: Modal operators on Heyting algebras, Algebra Universalis 12 (1981), 5–29] and on MV-algebras in [HARLENDEROVá,M.—RACHŮNEK, J.: Modal operators on MV-algebras, Math. Bohem. 131 (2006), 39–48]. In the paper we generalize the notion of a modal operator for general bounded commutative Rℓ-monoids and investigate their properties also for certain derived algebras. The geometry of slant submanifolds of a nearly trans-Sasakian manifold is studied when the tensor field Q is parallel. It is proved that Q is not parallel on the submanifold unless it is anti-invariant and thus the result of [CABRERIZO, J. L.—CARRIAZO, A.—FERNANDEZ, L. For analytic functions f(z) in the open unit disk U and convex functions g(z) in U, Nunokawa et al. [NUNOKAWA, M.—OWA, S.—NISHIWAKI, J.—KUROKI, K.—HAYAMI, T: Differential subordination and argumental property, Comput. Math. Appl. 56 (2008), 2733–2736] have proved one theorem which is a generalization of the result [POMMERENKE, CH.: On close-toconvex analytic functions, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 114 (1965), 176–186]. The relationship between the strength (σc) of unidirectional fiber-reinforced plastics in different stressed states and the interfacial strength of their components is investigated. The shear adhesive strength (τ0) of fiber—matrix joints determined by the pull-out technique is used as a measure of the interfacial strength. To obtain the correlation curves betweenσc andτ0, the experimental results are used, where both the plastic and adhesive strength change under the influence of a single factor. In this case, such factors are the fiber surface treatment, nature and composition of polymer matrices, and test temperature. It is shown that the strength of the glass, carbon, and boron plastics increases practically linearly with increased interfacial strength. Such a behavior is observed in any loading conditions (tension, shear, bending, and compression). Sometimes, a small (10–20%) increase in the adhesive strength induces a significant (50–70%) growth in the material strength. Therefore, the interface is the “weak link” in these composites. The shape of theσcτ0 curves for composites based on the high-strength and high-modulus aramid fibers and different thermoreactive matrices depends on the nature of the fiber and the type of stress state. In many cases, the composite strength does not depend on the interfacial strength. Then, the fiber itself is the “weak link” in these composites. On the basis of the concept of the interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy sets introduced by K. Atanassov, the notion of interval valued intuitionistic fuzzy Hv-submodules of an Hv-module with respect to a t-norm T and an s-norm S is given and the characteristic properties are described. The homomorphic image and the inverse image are investigated. In particular, the connections between interval valued intuitionistic (S, T)-fuzzy Hv-submodules and interval valued intuitionistic (S, T)-fuzzy submodules are discussed.  相似文献

The relationship between the tensile strength and deformation characteristics, composition, and structural organization of films obtained by casting of two-component water-based system blends — a solution of the rigid partly crystalline polymer polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and an emulsion of the compliant amorphous polymer polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) — has been investigated. The aim of this investigation was to ascertain the possibility of obtaining film materials with increased deformability based on the biodegradable PVA. The composition dependences of the initial modulus of elasticity, the maximum stress, yield stress, the ultimate strength, the ultimate strain, and of the unit work of fracture and other characteristics of films have been analyzed. An analysis of the tensile true stress–strain curves of systems with volume fractions of PVA less than 0.5 points to their considerable orientation strengthening upon tension.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to define the localization LM n -algebra of an LM n —algebra L with respect to a topology F on L; in Section 5 we prove that the maximal LM n -algebra of fractions (defined in [3]) and the LM n -algebra of fractions relative to an Λ—closed system (defined in Section 2) are LM n -algebras of localization.  相似文献

Many algebras arising in logic have a lattice structure with intervals being equipped with antitone involutions. It has been proved in [CHK1] that these lattices are in a one-to-one correspondence with so-called basic algebras. In the recent papers [BOTUR, M.—HALAŠ, R.: Finite commutative basic algebras are MV-algebras, J. Mult.-Valued Logic Soft Comput. (To appear)]. and [BOTUR, M.—HALAŠ, R.: Complete commutative basic algebras, Order 24 (2007), 89–105] we have proved that every finite commutative basic algebra is an MV-algebra, and that every complete commutative basic algebra is a subdirect product of chains. The paper solves in negative the open question posed in [BOTUR, M.—HALAŠ, R.: Complete commutative basic algebras, Order 24 (2007), 89–105] whether every commutative basic algebra on the interval [0, 1] of the reals has to be an MV-algebra.  相似文献

A generalized Bailey pair, which contains several special cases considered by Bailey (Proc. London Math. Soc. (2), 50, 421–435 (1949)), is derived and used to find a number of new Rogers-Ramanujan type identities. Consideration of associated q-difference equations points to a connection with a mild extension of Gordon’s combinatorial generalization of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities (Amer. J. Math., 83, 393–399 (1961)). This, in turn, allows the formulation of natural combinatorial interpretations of many of the identities in Slater’s list (Proc. London Math. Soc. (2) 54, 147–167 (1952)), as well as the new identities presented here. The object of this paper is to introduce a new difference sequence space which arise from the notions of |$ \bar N $ \bar N , p k | summability and an Orlicz function in seminormed complex linear space. In his papers on the determination of maxima and minima and on the calculation of tangents Pierre Fermat uses two different Latin verbs, ?quare and ad?quare, which do not differ semantically but are used by him obviously in different meanings. While ?quabitur is used unambiguously in the sense of “is equal” the meaning of ad?quabitur is disputed by the experts since Tannery’s French translation (Œuvres complètes de Fermat, Vol. III, 1896). Herbert Breger (Arch. Hist. Exact Sci. 46, 193–219, (1994), p. 197 f), for instance, holds the view that Fermat used the word ad?quare in the sense of “to put equal” and adds: In a mathematical context, the only difference between “?quare” and “ad?quare” (if there is any) seems to be that the latter gives more stress on the fact that the equality is achieved. In contrast to this Michael Mahoney holds the thesis that ad?quare describes a counterfactual equality (Mahoney, M.S.: Fermat, Pierre de. In: Dictionary of Scientific Biography, vol. IV (1971), p. 569) or a pseudo-equality (Mahoney, M.S.: The Mathematical Career of Pierre de Fermat (1601–1665), (1973), p. 164), whatever that may mean. This viewpoint has been taken up again recently by Enrico Giusti (Ann. Fac. Sci. Toulouse, Math. (6), 18 fascicule spécial, 59–85 (2009)) in order to bring arguments to bear against Breger. In contrast to these (and other) authors, I show that Fermat makes a subtle logical distinction between the words ?quare and ad?quare. The same distinction is made by Nicolas Bourbaki introducing his ?théorie égalitaire?. Notwithstanding: both verbs stand for a ?relation d’égalité?. On this premiss, I describe—using six selected examples—that Fermat’s “method” may be justified right down to the last detail, even from the view of today’s mathematical knowledge.  相似文献

This paper focuses on feature selection for problems dealing with high-dimensional data. We discuss the benefits of adopting a regularized approach with L 1 or L 1L 2 penalties in two different applications—microarray data analysis in computational biology and object detection in computer vision. We describe general algorithmic aspects as well as architecture issues specific to the two domains. The very promising results obtained show how the proposed approach can be useful in quite different fields of application.  相似文献

The following results are proved. In Theorem 1, it is stated that there exist both finitely presented and not finitely presented 2-generated nonfree groups which are k-free-like for any k ⩾ 2. In Theorem 2, it is claimed that every nonvirtually cyclic (resp., noncyclic and torsion-free) hyperbolic m-generated group is k-free-like for every k ⩾ m + 1 (resp., k ⩾ m). We consider a special space of set-valued functions (multifunctions), the space of densely continuous forms D(X, Y) between Hausdorff spaces X and Y, defined in [HAMMER, S. T.—McCOY, R. A.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, Set-Valued Anal. 5 (1997), 247–266] and investigated also in [HOLá, L’.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, USCO and minimal USCO maps, Set-Valued Anal. 11 (2003), 133–151]. We show some of its properties, completing the results from the papers [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Densely continuous forms, pointwise topology and cardinal functions, Czechoslovak Math. J. 58(133) (2008), 79–92] and [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Hausdorff graph topology, proximal graph topology and the uniform topology for densely continuous forms and minimal USCO maps, Acta Math. Hungar. 116 (2007), 133–144], in particular concerning the structure of the space of real-valued locally bounded densely continuous forms D p *(X) equipped with the topology of pointwise convergence in the product space of all nonempty-compact-valued multifunctions. The paper also contains a comparison of cardinal functions on D p *(X) and on real-valued continuous functions C p (X) and a generalization of a sufficient condition for the countable cellularity of D p *(X). Weak MV-algebras     
In a recent paper [CHAJDA, I.—KüHR, J.: A non-associative generalization of MV-algebras, Math. Slovaca 57, (2007), 301–312], authors introduced and studied a non-associative generalization of MV-algebras called NMV-algebras. In contrast to MV-algebras, sections (i.e. principal filters) in NMV-algebras which are proper (i.e. are not MV-algebras), do not admit a structure of an NMV-algebra with respect to the operations defined in a natural way. The aim of the paper is to present a new class of algebras generalizing MV-algebras but sharing the above property. Given an i.i.d. sample from a probability measure P on ℝ, an estimator is constructed that efficiently estimates P in the bounded-Lipschitz metric for weak convergence of probability measures, and, at the same time, estimates the density of P — if it exists (but without assuming it does) — at the best possible rate of convergence in total variation loss (that is, in L 1-loss for densities).   相似文献
